Raphael (no last name) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised by Benedictine nuns. Under their tutelage and encouragement, he developed a love for music, first learning about classical music and Gregorian chant. As a young man, after playing gypsy violin on the streets and utilizing his talents in rock bands, Raphael studied the piano formally at the San Francisco Conservatory. He later spent a decade at Esalen, the renowned Northern California spiritual community. It was during his time there that he began to blend his various influences, draw from multiple cultures for compositional inspiration, and forge his signature style of healing and relaxation music. Originally issued in 1989, Music To Disappear In was his first recording for the label Hearts of Space. A bit dated by this juncture, these nine songs, all original compositions but for the traditional opener ("Disappearing Into You"), use piano and keyboards as a central voice, creating a lulling web of atmospheric string sounds complemented by flute and percussion. Long used by body workers, Music To Disappear In is the very definition of New Age relaxation music. --Paige La Grone

Relaxing.......2007-01-09
If you don't want to be relaxed don't listen to this CD! It's a wonderful prescription for the spirit.
Beautifully relaxing.......2004-11-30
I have been having insomnia for a few weeks, and this disk, specially track 2 "In Paradiso" is awesome. I programmed my CD . player to just play it over and over, it is so relaxing I actually sleep, in spite of all kinds of problems (try sleeping with a stuffed nose in a sitting position!) It was so bad I wore it off (hard to believe, isn't it?). I will buy the album again, just for that song!
Music of my soul........2002-11-18
This CD is the most awsome musical source I've ever known. I am a pianist and guitarist and have tried to reach this plateau myself and not come so close. The music in it actually touched emotions I didn't know I had. I fealt a peace and tranquility I've never known. When my time comes, this is the music I want to leave this world hearing. Side 1 Track 1, Disappearng into You, is the song of my soul and life. I don't know if the artist has known pain or sorrow like I have but the connection is unreal and welcome. This is a good investment and well worth the time to enjoy. Turn down the lights, light a fire, cuddle up with the one you love and let this artist touch your soul.
Beautiful.......2002-11-04
I heard this album when it first came out and it still thrills me. It's just plain BEAUTIFUL, relaxing music. Lay down on the floor, spread your arms wide and drift away..... it truly IS music to disappear in.........
Can't seem to disappear.......2000-05-25
I can't imagine meditating or getting a message to this music. It is very heavy on the angelic chorus and shrill strings. Then fluxuates to a Mr. Rogers sounding theme. It sounds very dated and the tracks do not flow well into one another.

I almost gave it four stars because it's close but the delivery of so many of their rhymes annoyes me. The content is good and the beats are decent but if the flow isn't right, I cringe...
dope without tryin', part four.......2006-01-06
lemme c here - first there waz "composition no. 1" (phat, but lackin' sorely on cohesive post-production), then u had "call it what you want" (a slept-on collection that u prolly can't get anywhere now), then tha whole squint debacle that left their recording futurez in limbo, then tha personnel changez and solo releasez got thrown out there, then gotee got 'em and helped them push tha archived stuff out along with tha "baloney" EP, and then "the end is now" - perhapz tha most sonically satisfyin' CD 2 that point - dropped and if u weren't a fan of tha symph, that disc made u at least marvel at what they've accomplished amidst tha drama......
and yet, tha saga continuez with "disappear here" (full release #4, if you're countin') and they pick right up where they left off with infectious lyrix, phat beatz and a love 4 Christ and Hiz message that beliez tha dopeness. conspicuously missin' are eternal iconoclast pigeon john, tha once-ubiquitous b-twice, tha enigmatic terry mcfly (fka trendi mc) and personal fave greatjason (fka j-beits). but i'm more than cool with what'z left, becauze it all comez 2gether right. check out "grand piano", "funky music", tha lead single "timeless" and "hold on". THEN hit up their website and get tha rest of their junk....EXCEPT "call it what you want". wonder why THAT iz.....

RECOVER ROCKS.......2005-05-02
Recover is amazing, this album is my current favorite of theirs. its definately much different from their first full length album; this album sounds more like their EP. any one who likes the way they sound on the CD should check them out live, they are one of the best live groups i have ever seen. check them out, BUY THIS ALBUM and tell your friends...
Great Contrast to the Previous.......2005-02-11
I personally think this is a great album. But to say it's not just because it's different from the old material is just plain ridiculous. I think it's hard for people to understand that when bands get together they write songs that WILL NOT sound the same. That's just stupid. Where's the challenge and fun in that?? Changes will happen while playing in a band, and to that I say viva la Recover! All these people who do not know how it is to be in a band needs to realize every band's sound will change over time. Rock on Reco! Very original!
come on now..........2005-01-31
OK, this might be the saddest thing that has happened to me in a while. for starters, i love recover. i always will. but come on...if any of you know recover well, you know how good "this is not recover" sounded. (produced by Brian McTernan. amazingly at that) i heard their new cd was coming soon and i got VERY excited. a month before it came out my friend told me he had a copy of it. i said i wouldnt listen to it out of respect for the band...but i ended up listening anyways. i couldnt wait. i thought...gross, this must be a demo of the new stuff...this sounds BAD. but sure enough, i bought the cd the day it came out and...it sounds bad. i heard they were supposed to go to a great place in LA (NRG i think) but they spent all the recording money on drugs and recorded it in some guys house. i guess this is more a review of the sound quality...but hey you have to LISTEN to the cd right? this is hard to listen to. song writing has downgraded. dans voice has downgraded. but i still give it a 3 because i love them. GO BACK TO BRIAN!
ehhh, i've heard better.......2004-12-21
Well let's make this short and simple.
This album is okay as it's own seperate entity. However, when compared to Rodeo&Picasso or their little ep, it kind of sucks. This cd is so much different from what they used to be. If this were their only piece of work it would probably be fairly decent, but it's such a change from their older stuff it's kind of jarring. There's also some kind of weird 3 minute or so pre-gap between song 10 and 11, i don't know why, but it annoys the hell out of me.
Great Band!.......2004-10-18
this album is a very solid disc! recover is an awesome band! if you are having second doubts about buying this album, go to www. killrecover.com, or better yet, go to www.purevolume.com/recover

Music To Disappear In II, released in 1991, is just shy of an hour long and is a logical extension of pianist-composer Raphael's Music To Disappear In. Once again utilizing the piano and keyboards as a central voice on these songs, with the addition of real rather than synthesized violin and harp, as well as a light hand with production, makes for a warmer and more enjoyable recording than its predecessor. Flutes, tabla, drums, and tinkling percussion add texture, harmony, and at times, twin melodies. A greater variance of composition and arrangement is evidenced by songs such as the sensual "Healing Dance," which opens with the strains of gypsy violin and grows to include a snake-hipped percussive rhythm, and by the hauntingly primordial vocals of "Laxshmi." "Tantra" is underscored by didjeridoo, and "Surrender" (a clear foundation for what is to come with his subsequent recording Angels of the Deep) is an angelic aria featuring harp and flute alongside Raphael's deftly fingered midsong piano solo. --Paige La Grone

Peaceful.......2007-01-09
I've never been disappointed with his music. It's the most peaceful company I've ever had!
Rexax and renew.......2005-08-15
This music is great for relaxation and renewal. It is a beautiful synthesis of eastern/western music and although some may classify it as "new age" music, it is much more than that. Use it as a background for entertainment or while reading a good book. It is also great for meditation. Let yourself sit back and travel to other dimensions if you like using this music for a springboard.

this literally is unbelieveable!
i swear i've listened to alot of cd's to relax, meditate, get inspired or whatever. this probably is the best one i've ever heard.
mtcharles.......2005-03-03
I use this music frequently during massage sessions with new clients. Several clients now specify this beautiful composition for their sessions. The melodies are very complex yet appear simple; my clients simply get lost in the music and escape stress for a time.
Gorgeous, quiet, peaceful music.......2001-02-13
This recording is the perfect mix of both unobtrusive and compelling sound. So often, meditative music intended for background, mood-softening purposes winds up rather empty and weak. This instead draws you gently and willingly into a symphony of sound. Beautiful, beautiful music.... give it a try and I know you'll love it!

Sweet power-pop bliss -- with half the calories!.......2006-01-22
Shimmering Beach Boys harmonies + solid toonage = Silver Sun heaven.
One's first Silver Sun experience can be a bit disconcerting because the music is first of all so damn sunny! And then there are those high-tone vocals which come dangerously close to approximating The Chipmunks. But maybe that's what makes it so unique and, ultimately, so addictive.
It would be nice if Amazon could provide at least one song sample here (ahem) because this stuff is so hook-heavy that even one of those pathetically small mp3s would be ample bait for s/he who is fishing for an authentic power-pop punch.
Even if you can only afford a used copy (and I know that's all I can afford!), don't let this one get away. It will provide hours and hours of quality listening pleasure.

One of the greatest Australian albums of all time ..........1999-06-23
Where do I start?
Glide are a band out of Sydney, Australia and have been together since 1991. They play a brand of music that doesn't smash over your head like a brick, but requires repeated listenings to discover their unique and beautiful sounds.
One of the only few albums throughout time that can claim strong tracks throughout. Ever-underrated, vocalist / guitarist William Arthur may be the best unsuccessful songwriter Australia has ever seen. They refuse to conform to any fashionable 'indie genre', which reflects in their small but loyal underground following in Australia.
Also check their releases 'Open Up and Croon' and 'Shrink Wrapped Real Thing' on Shock in Australia. Get into Glide before the bandwagon arrives, or maybe, before they disappear.

Good Album to fall asleep to........2003-09-09
After making "Them," PFR broke up in 1997. This cd could of been better had it had some killer rocking tunes like "Them".
Remember Pour me out & Daddy never cried. There aren't any great stand out tunes. This album reminds me of pink floyd and beach boys. Its really mellow with good harmonies. Basically if you are hard core PFR then it be a good purchase, but lets say they've done better. Contains some good interesting tunes though. I hope that when these guys come bach they totally rock out... atleast on a few songs. Cause they can really rock and roll!
Missing band.......2003-08-18
I, like so many others, was disappointed at PFR's split in 97. Of course, this was marked by periodic reunions (the Phoenix benefit concert, "Kingdom Come", etc.). So, finally, the band reunited to do an album.
What to expect? Well, expect PFR...like many bands, people expect an artist to simply redo the previous album. And like the greatest bands, PFR wasn't content to record "Them - Part II". Every PFR album has been totally different from the others, they are a band willing to experiment. But mostly, this album reminds me of a more alive version of Great Lengths. It's the music of a PFR that has aged well.
Problem is, the album is impossible to find. For some reason or another the label, Squint, put this out of print very quickly. If you want this excellent CD, you'll have to check with used places ...
Not so late, but still great.......2003-03-23
1997 was not a great year for those who like good Christian music. Rich Mullins died in a car accident, and PFR announced that they would soon stop recording together to pursue individual projects. At the time, PFR was possibly the most original, most musically talented band in Christian music, and their decision was heartbreaking for their many fans.
You can imagine the excitement when the new album DISAPPEAR was announced and then released. The original music PFR fans had been longing for was here!
The album itself is very, very good overall. The musical traits that endeared PFR to their fans are here in abundance: achingly tight vocal harmonies, strong pop hooks, ear-crunching electric guitar, and a slow ballad or two to show the emotional connectivity PFR has always had with their listeners. There are some new traits here, though, evidence that in five years the band has done some living and, possibly, some growing in maturity through all the things that life might hold.
"Amsterdam" is a typical PFR rock tune, but a good one - distorted guitar, tight hooks and harmonies, catchy chorus. One of the best songs on the album. Another real gem is the second track, "Gone." This is one of the tracks that makes the listener wonder exactly what's been happening in the time between the last album and DISAPPEAR. Emotionally, this song and track 4, "Missing Love" seem more scarred and yet hopeful than even the most heart-wrenching PFR tunes from the past. "Falling" is another worthy offering on this CD, more great PFR sound like their fans have come to expect.
The only complaint many listeners have regarding this album is its length - 35 minutes of music just doesn't seem like enough! And knowing that this album is not a reunion album, per se, makes the listener hunger even more for what may lie ahead for PFR. Hopefully more albums will come in the future, but if not, one can be very happy with DISAPPEAR, since that seems to be exactly what PFR is NOT going to do...
the great pfr.......2001-10-15
first to begin with the washed up washed out music their is today i will say thank God for pfr for producing something worth buying and listening to..(amasterdam) starts off the album with bright aggressive guitars but nothing to hurt u (gone) is also speedy it slows down to mid speed with (all ready, missing love, closer ,closer being one of my favorates (even a whisper, language of the soul are smooth and modern sounding(falling) which is the title song it is crying for help through the madness (me & you) my personal fav.. also you a very different song too with a violin in it all together its great
Good but too little, too short.......2001-10-02
When my wife switches on WLAB, there aren't many songs that capture my attention and quite a few that elicit a violent response to the utter lack of artistry for the sake of "THE MESSAGE" (Yes Virginia, there is something worse than The Backstreet Boys). One of the very few exceptions is the music of PFR. Five years ago, this talented trio broke up to get off the road and spend time with their families. But the road has a way of luring one back and these gents have recorded their fifth studio album. I must admit, this one took me the longest get. I was initially disappointed, thinking that they had lost whatever magic they previously were able to create. But it seems that PFR wanted to make the album that they would have made today had they stayed together these many years. It's taken a while to grown on me but is has grown and while I don't think it's their best, it is most definitely a solid album. So what do they sound like? Imagine Jellyfish scrubbed clean of innuendo by a wall of gritty alternative-rock guitars set among Beatlesque vocal harmonies and the ability to write a great power-pop song. PFR gets on the radio with their soft ballads, but they limit these to two or three per album. The rest of the songs are aggressive guitar feasts for musicians. "Amsterdam" and "Gone" are most like PFR's last album, which was the best guitar rock album of 1996, Christian or otherwise. Expect gutsy rhythms, tasteful distortion, upbeat tempos that swing, and some gloss-perfect production. As a bass-hound, the first thing that struck me were the many bass sounds present, each one painfully full and rich, making me burn to know how such a sound was captured. The final song, "You" begins in a mesmerizing wash of flange before being interrupted by a fuzzy guitar before settling down to vibes and a long vamp featuring a crying, emotive violin. Lyrically there are the Christian references required for radio airplay... on the ballads. The upbeat, rockier songs are much more creative and thought-provoking, settling more on the non-cliched spiritual themes one might find on an early U2 album. My only beef is that after waiting half a decade, PFR only gives us thirty-five minutes of music. Very good, but very short.
