A true house classic........2007-02-13

House music has always been about simplicity. Simple beat, layered over simple lyrics, layered over and over like a fine woven fabric. Percolator is a fine example of that process. The percise layering of the hypnotizing perculating beat over simple but to the point lyrics is what makes this song such a house dance classic. Weave it into any dance set and watch the crowd reaction.

This is Mojo Nixon's Christmas album. He got together with his band, The Toadliquors, and recorded some Christmas songs. Unfortunately, he didn't bother to learn the lyrics to any of the songs, just relying on his rather poor memory. He often forget the words and just sings whatever dirty words pop into his head. The whole album is very sloppily played. But that's Mojo for ya.

Whatever it is that brought you to read this review, take it as a sign. You should buy this CD! Maybe even buy two, because you are likely to spill eggnog on one of them. If you are a Mojo fan, this is arguably his best CD. If you are looking for something different in your holiday music, here it is. This recording sounds like Mojo and the Toadliquors got together for a few (too many) drinks to rehearse, and just ended up recording that. It's a great mix of R&B, traditional, and a few original songs. The singing and playing may be a little sloppy, and Mojo doesn't quite cut it singing "Everyday Will Be Like a Holiday", but the inspired piano playing by Wet Dawg more than makes up any musical short-comings.

Some highlights:
*The opening song, an irreverent-yet-sincere "Happy Birthday" to Jesus [].
*The rave-up of "Good King Wenceslas" (I forgot the words - let's just sing La La La).
*Every juvenile delinquent's favorite version of "Jingle Bells" (that's right, Batman smells).
*"We Three Kings" is reworked as a tale of drunken revelry. It turns out that "We Three Kings of Orient Are" nicely rhymes with both "drinking whiskey in a bar" and "throwing up in our dad's car". This song also includes a great Tom Waits impression.

If your line of good taste has not been crossed by the end of the disc, it probably will be on the final cut, "Twas the Night Before Christmas", when Mojo sings of committing unnatural acts with Blitzen. Do not play this for your mom.

The Best Christmas CD EVER.......2001-12-19

When I first heard this cd it was Christmas Eve, the Family and I were gathered around they tree opening our presents. Ever since then it has been a family tradition on Christmas Eve to listen to these rousing renditions of our holiday favorites.

Best X-mas CD I own.......2001-12-17

I have had this CD for years and it is our absolute favorite! We never get tired of it. Fun, Upbeat, and Sly. It's Mojo at his best!

I just got this CD and wow oh wow.......2001-03-27

I just got this CD in the mail and wow. It is amazing. They do a great cover of paranoid by black sabbath and there other songs on this CD rock. This CD'll have you skanking all nite long. you will end Ruder than most after listening to this. Go out and buy this is if you love Ska music and if you are horny for Ska.

I was DJing at a big club in Italy when this hit. It was one of the biggest hits that summer. Very bouncy sudo-house tune. The words are some what silly, but the bass line and hooks are on target. If you have not heard it, give it a spin.

Funky Techno with a Retro Flava.......2004-04-18

I was first introduced to this song was when I was watching season one of the showtime series Queer As Folk. In episode 18 Scene 5, Brian Kenny enters the bathhouse looking for a little action, and ends up unexpectedly running into Dr Dave(Michael Novatney's beau) Uh oh!.. Will Brian tell his best Friend Michael that Dr Dave is being unfaithful? Or will Dr Dave come clean? The song is a perfect for this particular scene, and had me wanting to know who sang it.

An excellent choice in music. In albuquerque, New Mexico, we listen to this song at the Club called "The PULSE". It is a song you can dance to and get freaky and wild. I do suggest this track if you are into the club scene. And if you love to dance with beats that make you going for hours, go right ahead and play this track on your stereo.

Had to put in my 2 cents here. Purists are not the ones who will love this. If you don't like mashups, back away. If you do, this single is worth having.

"Horny Like a Dandy" is an amazing mashup which is rocking clubs around the world. Loo and Placido are some of France's most talented producer/DJs, and this song is one of their quite good ones. Yeah, perhaps it's not the best they ever did- but licensing a mashup is nearly impossible, and as a result producers release what they can. The end product is quite a bit nicer that your standard mp3 mashup- a CD single with three different mixes of the song, very nicely mastered, and a video as well. And regardless of what other reviewers may say, this is not an easy or lazy production. It is not easy to combine two different songs and make them sound like a completely new one. L+P do that here, seamlessly and with a lot of fun.

I never liked "Horny" either. In this context it's quite cool. Now, after listening to this single, I have a new respect for the vocalist, and I sing it to myself all the time, which is probably not good!

Barrel-scraping junk........2006-07-22

First things first - The Curmudgeon is a BIG fan of The Dandy Warhols. Got all the albums, seen them live - Courtney Taylor is a pefect front man - sexy, effortlessly cool and smart. He once commented that he didn't regret allowing "Bohemian Like You" to be used for a Vodaphone ad, because he bought his studio with the money. I only hope he's bought something equally nice for the money he must have received for this garbage.

So what is it, exactly? Well, it's one of those interesting-for-two-minute splicing of songs; this time Dandy Warhol's "Bohemian Like You", for the idiotic public the only song they ever released, and Mousse T's "Horny", that song you never wanted to hear again. And they're now together at last - just what no one on earth wanted.

It works well enough, I suppose, but then there are better (and worse) unofficial mixes out there (the Strokes "vs" Christina Aguilera, for example). Why this got greenlit as a single remains a mystery.

This is just a lazy, fairly uninspired remix. Take two well-established songs, take the music from one and put it behind the vocals of the other. Yawn - this got dull in 2004. And another thing, the title makes no sense; "Mousse T vs The Dandy Warhols - Horny As A Dandy?" No, no, no - if you're mixing "Horny" and "Bohemian Like You" shouldn't it be "Horny Like You", or even "Horny As A Bohemian?" God, even the TITLE sucks.

Mousse T can be inducted into the Official Room 101 of Amazon no problem at all. But inducting The Dandy Warhols? We're not loving that one bit. Still, it's not as if Courtney et al actually had anything to DO with this.

Let's just picture him receiving yet another fat cheque for this song, and hope one day the moronic public will actually buy something else the Warhol's bring out.

Glen Meadmore is a gay Christian punk rocker with a twist of country... In "Sassy," one of the best tracks off of this CD, he sings about a boy with "A face like a saint and a mouth like a whore." If those lyrics don't make your happy light shine, your alcoholic mother probably dropped you when you were a child.
