Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!

I RECENTLY SAW THE SHOW MAMMA MIA IN LAS VEGAS. ALWAYS LIKES THE MUSIC OF ABBA, AND THOUGH THE PLOT WAS THIN, THE MUSIC WAS WELL PERFORMED. IN THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, THE ENGLISH ACCENTS WERE A BIT MUCH, BUT THE SONGS WERE GREAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ABBA.

Good companion for Battlestar Fans.......2007-05-07

If you're a Battlestar Galatica Fan, this audio is an excellent companion to your collection. Passacaglia, Forgiven, and The Shape of Things to Come are emotional and addictive orchestral soundtracks. Not every song from the first season is included in this CD. The opening credit songs for the UK and the US versions and the battle songs (The Thousandth Landing, Battle on the Asteroid) are included. Battlestar Muzaktica is quite odd and doesn't fit with the collection of songs.

Captures the feel of the show.......2007-04-11

Has a great selection of songs from the 1st season. I like show/movie CDs that you can picture the scenes and emotion of the actors when you hear the song. The Celtic underlays are great, and the Taiko drumming style is very well used for building intensity in the music. If you really like the series, you should probably really enjoy the music as well!

Awesome Soundtrack.......2007-04-11

If you like the music in a scene that just blends in and makes the scene even more emotional or suspenseful, that is what the scores from season one do on this cd. I initially bought it to for the prologue (cylon music) and the two main titles (U.S. and U.K.) but after listening to the entire cd, I have become completely addicted to it. The titles of the scores usually give you a hint of the scene and the liner notes also tell you the episode that they are from but the soundtrack has definitely made rewatching season one an even more intriguing experience. The scores with words, are written by Bear and are in various languages, but the words, especially the opera piece, are actually so dead one with the scene and in this specific scene hilarious. I love this soundtrack. If you are someone who is addicted to really grasping everything that happens in this show and watch and analyze it beyond face value, this is an added bonus to have in your collection. I highly recommend it!!!

Man I love the Classic and the Present BSG's So Inaturally find the SoundTrack/Score A joy and very relaxing. They tend to sound very similar but they are very diffrent.

There have been lots of raving reviews of this album, as well as the equally sensational season 2 soundtrack. I just wanted to add my opinion on one track, "Destiny". An earlier review describes an Arabic string instrument being used, but it is actually a biwa, a traditional Japanese instrument that has such a distinct sound that it's hard to imagine it being used for anything other than traditional gagaku music. I don't know if anyone but McCreary has ever tried to use this instrument for something else, but it hardly matters. The fact that McCreary managed to use it so effectively in a piece that is so different from gagaku music is a perfect testament to his unique genius. I'm really looking forward to following McCreary's career.

My son wanted this Cd. I had never sat long enough to listen to the music when he played Halo, so I didn't have a clue what I was buying. He let me listen to some of the tracks once it arrived and I had to "borrow" it from him so I could download the cd onto my pc. Needless to say I bought volume 2 and the original Halo soundtrack cd as well. They may belong to my son, but I love these cds too!

THe only reason I am writing anything about this album is because it contains the Odyssey by Incubus, and its probably some of their best work and will go down as their most unnoticed. While the rest of your nerds are huggin your pillows at night thinking about your video games and the "gnarly instrumentals" on this album you sit there and bash Incubus' work. The first track by them, Follow, is not all that great however it was re-released on an additional cd with their Alive at Red Rocks DVD and it sounds sooooooo much better on that cd (with some real lyrics) But after listening to the Odyssey I was really hoping this to be a new direction for Incubus, a more proggressive/conceptual sound. Whether this is the direction they go on with their new album is yet to be heard. Its a shame that this work will go unnoticed, and the only reason it will be that way because a bunch of losers decide to try and impress people with (what they think) is a sense of music just because its of a classical nature. Yes, the rest of the music on the album is amazing, and I give big ups to its composition, but come on people, show some love to good music when its presented to your faces.

i understand that many people are a bit angry with breaking benjamin and hoobastank being in here. i'm not particularly happy myself with the last track, but i think contemporary music is appropriate here, albeit lyrics may not be the greatest form of expressing the mysterious feeling behind everything. i think o'donnel and salvatori have what it takes to compose a score of music, but it's not a score, it's a soundtrack. i found that if you don't like them you can just skip them. the second to last track is a great way to end the soundtrack.

The worst part of this album was songs with lyrics (breaking benjamin, techno, hoobastank)...i dont understand then why people are upset with the incubus - follow has one word the whole song (two if you count "yeah") and their instrumental songs are brilliant, floyd-esque at times. for those of you reading others criticizing this album, ignore them, ignore the three bad songs on this album, and purchase it and enjoy it.

Fits The Game Perfectly.......2007-06-07

Bungie really outdid themselves with this soundtrack, and it shows. Never have I heard an entire soundtrack that melds perfectly with the game it was made for.

All 27 songs on Halo's soundtrack do a wonderful job in conveying the emotion and ambience of the situation to the listener/player.

Songs such as . . .

*Under Cover of Night*. You're on an alien world, tracking through snow and ice, and alone. This track really gives one the feeling of despair associated with such a situation.

*Devils, Monsters*. You discover the last known position of a company of marines, and their horrible fate. This track instills fear, and the need to escape.

*Covenant Dance*. This is a great track, but I can't remember where exactly it's played. Two Betrayals? Anyway, you're on borrowed time and you must fight your way through both Covenant and Flood. Definately gives a sense of "oh, s***"

*On a Pale Horse*. I always equate this track with a Banshee, but I'm not sure that's what Martin intended. Gives a sense of urgency - as if one has the weight of the world on their shoulders.

*Perchance to Dream*. Shhhh, the aliens are sleeping. Certainly gives that 'tip-toe' effect.

*Library Suite*. The Library is my favorite chapter. Many hate this chapter because of it's repetitive levels, but I think Bungie made it that way on purpose as a clever trick on one's emotions. Encountering the Flood for the first time is a bit scary. Playing the first level of the Library only intensifies that feeling. Finding out there are 9 more levels of Flood-goodness is even worse.

This track conveys the anxiety, dread, and fear of going through a long, frightful fight with these organisms in an alien structure.

*Ambient Wonder*. This track is gorgeous. It makes me think of the endlessness of space, and all that it could encompass, be it beauty or horror. As the name says, conveys a sense of wonder.

*Lost Song*. This is the 27th song that didn't make it to this release. I'm not sure if that's the proper/original name, but that is what Bungie titles it as since the track was considered 'lost'.

IMO, this is the best song from the game. Some say it can only be heard on Legendary, but I have no knowledge of whether that's true or not. If I remember correctly, this track plays once you kill a sword-wielding Elite in either Two Betrayals, or AOTCR. At that point, the area is clear and you're free to look around, or make your way through to the next room.

This track is a bit difficult to explain. I know that if I were far off in space, walking around in an alien structure filled with bright lights and shiny walls with hieroglyphics, alone - I would certainly think of this song. It gives that 'otherwordly' feeling in a non-agreesive, almost peaceful, way.

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better soundtrack to go with a great Sci-Fi game. You're on an alien-world in the middle of BF-Space, and the music literally immerses you into that experience 100%. Or, if you just like music that gives that 'otherwordly' sensation, this would be a good pick.

Oh, and btw - Steve Vai did the guitar work on both this soundtrack and Halo 2.

The single greatest soundtrack for a game ever........2007-05-22

Seriously, I don't know a more professional piece of work on music for a game than the Halo soundtracks. Everytime I load the game and hear the monks singing it's just surreal. I play it many times when drawing or internet shopping and it never gets old. Hopefully Halo 3 will continue the trend.

True to the game.......2007-03-08

As I thoroughly enjoyed Halo, I wasn't surprised that I liked the soundtrack. The majority of songs I recognized instantly as "Oh, that's where the Flood pops out" and so on. (My heart rate still jumps up just *listening* to it)

The one thing I didn't like was the fact that most of the tracks were under the 1:30 mark or so, so just as the song gets going it stops.
Regardless, I still give it 5 stars.

I've never been a serious gamer but after giving in and purchasing the Xbox system (solely for the critically acclaimed and rockin' Halo series) in late 04 I started seeing the reasons for all the hype. Halo is by far the pinnacle game in my opinion and the music makes for a great listen. Combining instruments and electronic noises Halo is given a future-sounding soundtrack that suits the game perfectly. This is a must for any fan of Halo.

Despite their signing to Def Jam, on Game Theory the Roots head in a direction opposite from all the trendy, commercial formulas that the label has pioneered. This is as intensely a "Roots album" as anything they've put out, the rightful sequel to their brilliant, creative Phrenology (unlike their last album, the off-balance Tipping Point. Game Theory is a dark and brooding affair, not just in Black Thought's foreboding lyricism but also in its musical textures. There's a layer of melancholia running beneath nearly every song, whether in the heavy thump of "In the Music" or the frenetic verve of "Here I Come." Track-for-track, this isn't The Roots' most scintillating collection of songs, but listened to from end-to-end, it's actually a remarkable achievement in album-making. Game Theory Review.......2007-07-16

I really enjoyed listening to this album from the minute I put it in. The songs are great because they have a message and they have real musical quality to them. What I mean to say by that is that there are actual melodies to the songs as opposed to just beats, which makes this album so much more than just another hip-hop album. It has definitely become one of my favorite albums in the month that I have owned it. On the downside, sometimes the songs drag on just a bit. Overall though, this album is really great.

The Roots' darkest offering to date........2007-06-19

Def Jam has really brought themselves back to the forefront of hip-hop over the last two years. While a lot of people criticize President Carter, like the artists he push or not, albums from the label over the last two years have been some of the finest offerings in commercial hip-hop. Rarely do you see a hip-hop label as diverse as Def Jam today; featuring artists as different Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Beanie Sigel, Lady Sovereign, Ghostface, Method Man, Redman, Joe Budden, and numerous others. One of the acts Jay-Z signed during his presidency is none other than The Roots, a group that has been cherished among the hip-hop community for over a decade. The Illadelph group has brought raw hip-hop dope to the game for years, and their most recent offering as of this writing, Game Theory, is one of their finest.

Game Theory is significantly darker than the Roots' previous albums. Black Thought, who has always been a highly talented emcee, has never really expressed the more melancholic side of his mind. As someone who had his parents murdered as a child, Thought's lack of introspection on previous albums was a bit dissapointing. On Game Theory, Black Thought breaks away from his battle-rapper beginnings, and builds himself into more of an anti-hero of hip-hop. Not an anti-hero in the sense that he's the bad guy everyone wants to cheer for, but like the fictious Bruce Wayne, Black Thought has become a freedom fighter who lurks in the darkness, only emerging to protect the lives around him.

To accompany this new Black Thought, The Roots crew changes up their musical stylings a bit as well. While the jazz influences are still strong, and the band still creates some stunning melodies, the music itself is significantly more dramatic in tone. Adding haunting choruses on tracks such as Don't Feel Right and Clock With No Hands certainly adds something to the atmosphere this album creates, and the beautiful voices singing on these respective tracks certainly raise the bar even higher. The pure hip-hop soul of tracks like Long Time featuring the highly promising Peedi Crakk, or the Radiohead-sampling Atonement are also more highlights of a virtually flawless album.

Game Theory was not only one of the best hip-hop albums of 2006, but it will also be remembered for years beyond most modern hip-hop albums' sell-by-dates. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

3.5 stars. not good enough for the roots.......2007-05-22

the roots are the most consistant and innovative rap group to date. blackthought has no equal on the mic and each time they experiment with new sounds, it works. nonetheless, and i may be in the minority, but 'game theory' just isnt that good. ive had it since it came out and i still cant really get into it. malik b makes a long-awaited comeback, but seems to have lost a step. same with dice raw. blackthought is message-rapping here a lot more than usual, at the expense of battle-rapping. the music is good because the roots are excellent, but none of the beats really move me except for the first half of 'take it there'. its a worthwhile purchase though, because any roots release will be.

Great album for non-hip-hop-fans.......2007-04-03

I'm not really a fan of hip-hop, but I REALLY like this album. While the rest of hip-hop seems more like slapstick comedy to me, this album is clever and intense, at times aggressive, at times ironically understated. It's art. And 'nary a mention about bitches, ho's, pimps or gangstas (but still not something I'll be playing for my kids anytime soon, due to the dark subject matter and coarse language). Best of all, Game Theory isn't just a collection of songs, it's an ALBUM. All the songs flow into each other, so you can listen to it from start to finish -- almost like one continuous 45 minute song. This is not just a great hip-hop album, this is a great album period.

Unlike its predecessor, Halo 2, Vol. 1, this sequel doesn¹t offer any tracks by the likes of Breaking Benjamin or Incubus, though guitarist Steve Vai returns for a hilariously histrionic cameo on "Reclaimer" and Sumthing Else label boss (and Chic leader) Nile Rodgers remains on board as producer. Structuring the CD around a narrative-driven series of multi-part suites (though the track listing identifies the suites themselves and you can¹t go directly to a favorite sub-part), composers Martin O¹Donnell and Michael Salvatori show that when it comes to setting a mood, games composers don't have to fear comparisons with their Hollywood brethren. Things, for instance, get appropriately creepy on the "Destroyer's Provocation" part of "Mausoleum Suite." The main problem is that things sometimes sound too cheaply synthetic, as in "Unyielding." Yet another CD that demonstrates talent outside of movie-music.......2007-07-15

This CD was awesome, even compared to the Halo: Combat Evolved CD and the Halo 2 vol. 1 CD. It proves yet again that there is musical talent (or should I say SUPERB musical talent) in the gaming industry. There is even a song (possibly the best on the CD) featuring Steve Vai on guitar. The only problem with this CD is that it is comprised of suites, which are each made of different smaller "songs", and you can't skip to an individual movement in the suites. Overall, this CD shows that a great videogame deserves some great music to go along with it.

Enter the Halo universe.......2007-06-11

When I first purchased Halo 2 (The game), I was scared. From the opening guitar solo of Bungie to the rest of the prologue, there was a flurry of emotions running through my body. Scared, excited, curious and most of all nervous. What was I about to get myself into for the rest of the afternoon??

I was nervous and scared at first. How long will I last with the Master Chief before I first get killed by some unsuspecting Grunt around the corner? Or some Elite jumping at me and slashing me with his energy sword? Or some sneaky little jackal sniping me from what seems to be 3 football fields away? This is what I asked myself before I finally came to and began to wail away at the Covenant with my assault rifle. No match for the Chief says I.

So 4 years later I finally get my hands on the "real" Halo 2 soundtrack and man oh man how those emotions I had when playing the game came back to me. I quickly remembered what levels I was at when listening to the different tracks and tried to think of how I was able to keep my sanity from dying and dying over and over again in the game. But I prevailed nonetheless and now eagerly await the arrival of Halo 3 in September.

The soundtrack is great if you're a fan of the Halo games or of this kind of music in general. You can be driving to work or just kicking back in your couch just to chill. It's pretty soothing with it's futuristic space sound. It's the soundtrack to the Halo universe. A Halo universe that exists in all of us.

Inspiring and Fun!.......2007-03-24

Salvatori and O'Donnell have created a memorable and inspiring collection of instrumental melodies in this second compilation of tracks from the Halo 2 video game. Its melodies rival that of its predecessors (Halo and Halo 2, volume 1). Salvatori and O'Donnell capture the emotion and environment of a video game, yet offer a taste of the finely mastered quality you would expect from great composers of memorable movie soundtracks. I only gave this soundtrack 4 stars because I wish some of the movements were longer, as the melodies are so inspiring, yet leave you craving for more. No connoisseur of video games, instrumental music, or movie soundtracks should go without Halo 2, volume 2.

What the Halo 2 soundtrack should have been.......2007-03-23

While I did enjoy the first Halo 2 soundtrack (particularly the Mjolnir Mix of the Halo theme), it lacked most of the major themes from the game. However, this version is almost a scene for scene musical representation of the whole game, and it is perfect. While playing the CD I can picture going through the certain levels and everything that happened in each, right down to the dialog. I only wished they released this one first (with the Mjolnir mixed added, of course) and then release the second one as a follow up album.

My Halo 2, Vol. 2 Tracks Review........2007-01-18

I thought that the music in the CD was awesome. Every time I play it on my MP3 player I can close my eyes and imagine myself actually in the game itself. It was just an all around great CD, I'd recommend it to anyone. Especially a Hard-Core Halo Fan like myself!

Perhaps the Cd to have this summer........2007-07-11

Introduced this to a Dj friend over the weekend, track by track, counting out their number...You know a minute or two of each one? Let's just say we were into double digits and still calling each track exceptional...When I first got it I started sending emails comparing it to the new DePhazz, he nailed it later...It sounds ALLOT like early DePhazz, which is a complement and not a bad thing in this world of plastic.

I actually don't listen to "electronica/dance" music, but I saw a Korbel commercial during the Holidays and that short bit of editted music (The Mating Game) got me curious enough to track down the album on the internet and purchase it for just that one track. I love this album! All the tracks are cool and sultry, with the title track reminding me of all those "James Bond" and "In Like Flint" movies I used to watch as a kid. For me, this album has been a really nice change of pace from what I normally listen to and right now it's still holding a dominant spot in my cd-changer.

This is a pretty fun album. I like the vocals and the techno/electronic combination. I listened to a couple times, put it away for a couple weeks and listened again and found even more to love about it with each listen.

if you loved the game and all it's awesomeness, you have to get the soundtrack.
but if you are just getting it for the hikaru utada songs... don't bother because the songs are in japanese.
if you can look past that and appreciate the music, then you won't be disappointed.

I bought this for my nine year old son who is a Kingdom Hearts fan. We have a strict "no games" policy during the week and the CD helps him get through. I am not a fan of the game but do appreciate the most of the tracks on the CD. It is nice background music.

There's always been a psychedelic edge to Rob Garza and Eric Hilton's Thievery Corporation project. 2000's Mirror Conspiracy is a downtempo classic precisely because of its druggy expansiveness; sober listeners and saucer-eyed trippers alike could find common ground. Similarly esoteric and nocturnal, The Cosmic Game floats around the room on a wave of mystic beats and guest vocals from Perry Farrell, The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, and David Byrne. Garza and Hilton are less devoted to non-electronic sources here than they were on The Richest Man in Babylon or The Outernational Sound, though their fascination with dub rhythms and world music remains intact. A fair amount of armchair travel is involved as you go from the late, late-night, beach-club-in-Jamaica sound of "Amerimacka," to the Brazilian percussion of "Ambicion Eterna" and "Pela Janela." But more than anything, the record feels like a return to the duo's own ethereal sonic roots. Only one word fully describes this album: Wow. Where do they get the inspiration, the creativity, the magic? Who knows. Just be thankful that they keep making beautiful and innovative music. TC just keeps getting better with each new album. If you thought RMIB was original, wait till you hear the collage of sounds compiled onto this tapestry of music. Some standout tracks: Warning Shots, Heart's a Lonely Hunter, Amerimacka, and the knock-out The Supreme Illusion. Holy cow, this song will floor you. It's almost too good.

If you own any other TC album and you like it, go out immediately and but The Cosmic Game. It's even better.

Good music, but hidden.......2006-10-25

Certainly a good solid album, and worth the listen from beggining to finish. Found myself really liking most of the tracks, but after a few listens there are some repepetitive elements that are hard on the ear. On most, if not all, of the tracks there is a heavy triplet delay effect that becomes extremly annoying after a few minutes. There is a lot of good music in this album, a shame that the smooth rythms, ecclectic vocals, and svelt textures are drowned in the delay. If this was a mastering descision, someone should shoot the engineer in the foot.

Another Classic.......2006-09-15

Context: I own a lot of music from Thievery Corp. , K&D, Moby's instrumental work, Rob Dougan and others. But of all the different kinds of "groove" I listen to and work to all day long, Thievery are my favorite artists / duo. If you own and enjoy the Mirror Conspiracy, you're going to love this IMO.

These guys are truly incredible the way they manage to integrate a wide variety of sounds into a completely seamless and natural sounding whole. This CD flows together as a single work probably better than any other that I own. And I own a ton of instrumental music. Urban, Jazz, Ethereal, you name it. It's just impossible to get sick of this music. It reveals something new almost every time I listen to it, which is not always true of modern instrumental music. Often it just fades away into the background after a while. Not this, however....

I don't often use the word "rewarding" in reference to music, but this CD qualifies in almost every respect. Worth every penny.

with so many different artists collaborating on this cd, i don't know where to begin

i must say though, that having the flaming lips open with ' marching the hate machines into the sun' was a great beginning..

retaining a classic 'theivery' feel, you can really get the 'world music' vibe, with hints of reggae, indian, alt rock , etc

each track is well produced, and at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, there's none that i woudl skip over; the cd was just mastered so well that they all flow into each other

they've always been on my radar ( since i first heard the french version of lebanese blonde ) but this is my first disc from them, and i have no regrets

The opening track of the album by Darling Violetta, is absolutely fantastic. Having all the Buffy albums and knowing how thought provoking the music is from that show, I did expect more from the Angel album. But it's still good music and any fan would be happy to say they have it.

One of my favorite is season 5 episode 6 "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco " I wish this compilation include the guitar solo section. I am completely opposite to the one of the reviewer. I love the music part only. I find it inspiring. There's some Hans Zimmer style in it. I really dig it...quiet yet powerful. However, it start to become a little too formulated. Too much of the same thing is definitely not a good thing. Ahhh, classic tragic hero stories. I can't resist.
