About the Artist
Having been raised in the multicultural environment of a Caribbean/American community in Brooklyn, New York, Sheldon developed a strong love for various cultural influences and these elements can be heard in many of the songs he has written and performed. He has been known to merge Jazz scat along with words spoken by him in French Creole along with English over dance music that he would sing with the potent voice of a love song Balladeer. Without the right balance all of these elements could seem to reveal a sense of contradiction.
Admittedly amused when asked about this, Sheldon smiles, then thoughtfully, with the baritone that's rapidly becoming his trademark, he speaks," I've been influenced by so many great artists in my life from the likes of Barry White, Jamaica's Maxi Priest to Haiti's Boukman Eksperyans to the late Marvin Gaye and many more. Each have brought something special to the music, but I also have grown up enjoying the "hip pumping" energy of dance music...Soulful House music, Calypso, Soca, Zouk, Samba or Reggae; the surface aesthetics may be different, but the underlying driving rhythms, spirit and power to make you 'Fete 'til you sweat' are still the same-- it's in the Drums , baby." He smiles, then continues,"I don't really see a contradiction in my music-- I'm writing lyrics that reflect ALL of who I am as a man, a lover, and a soul searcher in this world."
With his current new CD Single, Sheldon proves he has found that "right balance", accompanied on his latest co-production project by music composer, House music's DJ.Eric Levan of Club America and Club Zanzibar fame. With the help of Herbert "Soo" Alston of SCS Studios, and guest recording artists Barri Jeffries, Tamika Green and Willise Martin,we'll all be making love this millennium year 2000 to "Making Love"-- the CD Single.
Product Description
Let the dawn creep in while you fall into the f-f-flow of... "Making Love"-- the New CD Single by the man who coined the phrase "Dance Ballad"
The Fresh soulful sound of Sheldon's brand of House music brings you deep into the midst of INTIMATE SCENARIOS BETWEEN LOVERS with the ease of flowing conversation.
You can take a dance ride through the pulsing "Underground" rhythms of "The Hard Drive" and the CD's Single's title song, "Making Love" or just get caught up in the thought-provoking, hot and steamy dialogue as he uses the subtle art of "wordplay" to bring you to the songs' satisfying climax.
With a touch of Jazz scat, the CD's title song features the rich harmonic soul singing of spicy Baritone Sheldon Porter balanced with just the right amount of sweetness from recording artist Willise Martin on backup vocals, in which Sheldon celebrates the joys of lovemaking.
"All I really wanna do is take you deep
in the night like a dream.
I've got thoughts of things I want to do to you
over and over...
All I wanna do is taste your
fantasies,
and when the morning comes we'll greet the dawning sun
in love."-- [Excerpt from title song, "Making Love"]
Barry White fans and Dance music lovers , this is a "must hear".
The Haunting "Pan African Express" reveals another side to this multifaceted artist featuring culturally inspired poetry, passionately spoken over driving "Afro-club" rhythms.
Making Love,Sheldon Porter,Another Thousand Years Publishing, LLC,A hot and steamy ride through a sensual soul searching psyche. Barry White fans pay attention.

good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.
memories.......2007-02-22

TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.
Deja Vu.......2006-02-17
Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

Album Description
About this CD (notes from the artist )
Topanga Dreams
Since 1988, I've lived in Topanga, California. This small mountain town has taught me the true meaning of community. By being there for each other, we can make dreams come true. May all your dreams come true...
Katyia's Dance
This song has evolved from being a solo dance performance piece in our Mystic Journey shows into a passionate tango...for two. So grab someone you love and enjoy the dance!
China Lily
This flute was a gift from my Dize (rhymes with pizza) teacher and is one of my favorites. Whenever I play it, I am transported to a place of inner peace and stillness.
Lhasa Love
I found this melody in a book of traditional Chinese folk songs, It was called Tibetan Dance before we transformed it into a lively multicultural boogie!
Aduman
Although there are many dialects spoken in the West African region of Guinea and Mali, the universal word for "sweet" amongst all the tribes is aduman.
Darjeeling Sunrise
Inspired by an Indian sunrise raga, this song reflects the experience that I had when I was on top of Tiger Hill in Darjeeling, India, witnessing a magical sunrise illuminating the awesome Himalayan mountains.

A Poetic Journey..........2004-05-05
I fell in love with the music of The Angels of Venice years ago, and thus when I learned that Suzanne Teng (a former "Angel") had produced a solo work, I was very excited. But the music on this CD easily surpasses anything Teng had done with the Angels of Venice. Lyrical melodies, accompanied by enthnic rhythms on traditional percussion instruments, overlaid with Teng's own haunting performances on Asian flute, transport the listener to another time and another place -- both in this world, and in the "otherworld" created by Teng's mystical music edge. Tibetan singing bowls, Middle-Eastern bells, Celtic strings and a vast assortment of drums and wind instruments create a musical whirlwind that will leave the listener breathlessly awaiting Teng's next musical offering.
Nice!.......2004-01-01
Suzanne Teng, the original flutist with the group "Angels of Venice", breaks out on her own in this playful and exotic 1999 release. Teng shows herself a master of flutistry, not only the playing the standard western "C" flute, but also piccolo, alto and bass flutes, dize (Chinese bamboo flute), ney (Turkish flute) and panpipes. Her tone is rich and liquid, and her improvisations range from jazzy to sinuous to ephemeral depending on the style of the piece. Many of the selections have a strong Near- or Far Eastern flavor, but the mood remains gentle and cheerful throughout the album, without any of the dark intensity that characterizes some of the "Angels'" work. Teng is not alone in "Mystic Journey" either; many guest artists lend their well-established talents to the mix to create ever-varied layers of texture. Gilbert Levy provides intricate world percussion accompaniments, while cellist Martin Tillman, Prince Diabate, Hans Christiansen of Rasa and Greg Ellis of Vas (among others) also pop in to lend a hand, making for a richly orchestrated album that is full of apt and interesting surprises. Occasionally the flute melodies seem a little trite and meandering, qualities that are at odds with the earthy, percussive background, but overall this album is appealing. Teng's simultaneously light and down-to-earth compositions find ways to be relaxing without being boring--a common pitfall for many New Age artists. The music of "Mystic Journey" would be great for warm-ups and slow-dancing for belly dancers, as well as just pleasant listening after a mundane and stressful day at work. Other recordings featuring Suzanne Teng's flute-playing include "Awake Inside a Dream" and "Music for Flute, Harp and Cello" by the Angels of Venice. For more bamboo and metal flute improvisations, in this case without accompaniment, check out also Richard Warner's "Quiet Heart / Spirit Wind".
Fabulous!.......2002-07-05
I ordered this CD after only hearing two songs which I "accidentally" heard while flipping the channels of the television. There was a performance done on Public Access and I was surprised to see that a CD was available. I ordered one for myself and a friend who is a yoga instructor. I love this CD! It is perfect for yoga or meditation or even just in the background while working. The music is heartfelt and joyous and everyone who hears it immediately loves it. I would definitly recommend it, especially if you are looking to expand your collection of instrumental music. Personally, I love flute pieces, so this was a perfect choice for me.
Fabulous.......2001-06-28
I caught Suzanne Teng & Mystic Journey on vacation at this year's Topanga Days festival, but didn't buy the CD. I thought about their music the whole rest of the trip and ordered the CD as soon as I got home. It's truly magnificent and beautiful music, and I could listen to the CD over and over. Perfect background for anything - reading, meditating, special dinners, yoga, whatever. I find myself getting up just to move to the music. They're all very talented and the CD is a real stress-melter.
Makes you want to listen and dance at the same time.......2000-08-31
This is really an excellent independently-produced CD. Some of the tunes are fairly straight-forward, rhythmic wonders with Ms. Teng's incredible flute playing polishing them off. Others are more "world" sounding incorporating thraot singing and chanting. There is not a bad cut on the CD. Listen to Katiya's Waltz, and try to concentrate on the beautiful music while your feet waltz across the floor.

Not up to prior recordings.......2007-01-29
This cd is a little strange. The "tracks" are almost like snippets of song parts strung together. Many of them are under a minute and just run together without you knowing it. Supposedly, you can put this on "random" for a different cd at every listening. Unique but kind of weird. I tend to like the repeating of parts of songs that I really like. This is good but not up to the standard of their prior albums which are very good. Worth buying for sure though.
very good prog metal.......2007-01-20
this album was a pleasent surprise to me. i always stayed clear of these guys cause i did not think i'd like em. boy was i wrong. i love this album. the whole album is one song broken up in a bunch of tracks so u can skip through them. the musicanship is great. the guitarist is really good. plays some great leads. and the keyboard player is also very impressive. the bass and drums are really tight. they keep some wird timeing. the singer is very good. he has a great voice. i love his harmonies. the song itself is very strange. never really heard anything like it. it defidently is very original. can be very heavy at times. and also has some swingy jazzy parts. my only complaint is a few points seemed like they wernt running fluidly enough. they seemed to drag a bit. but other than that it was really good. i recommend this to any prog fans. fans of dream theater, symphony x, and zero hour will probly like this album allot.
The most incredible thing I've heard in a loooong time!.......2006-11-10
I bought a copy of this album directly from record label that distributed it while attending ProgPowerUSA VII in Atlanta just this past September. I was a little skeptical if this was actually going to be anything good. It was so unusual and "different" that I did not know what to make of it. Think about it - a single 40-minute long song divided up into 43 parts. Ooookay, but it still intriqued me and having listened to Beyond Twilight's previous albums, most notably _Section X_, I figured it had to at least be decent. Boy, was I in for a very pleasent surprise!
The first time I heard this, I was completely blown away! WOW! Friggan UNBELIEVABLE! There has never been an album that just completely had me blown away like this one did, and I've been listening to metal for a very long time, right from the early days of Judas Priest and Black Sabbeth. I honostly think there is absolutly nothing that I've heard in the mainstream that will even come close to the brilliance of this particular album! The only thing that I can think of that I've listened to recently that even comes close are two Aryeon albums - _The Final Experiment_ and _Into the Electric Castle_ (both hardly considered "mainstream"). I've listened to this thing a good dozen times plus since I bought it and it amazes me every single time - and this is just listening to it straight through. I'll need to try the "random shuffle" trick as mentioned by others.
The music itself is just so brilliantly composed and played. Everything from beautiful orchestral parts to the hard driven "chunky" power-metalish guitars and double-bass. The vocals are just incredible in thier own right, complete with full choruses. This is indeed has a very big symphonic and epic feel. I tell everybody that this is basically what you get when you cross a symphony orchestra with a prog metal band! I am just in awe in the composition itself. I am willing to bet that something like this is not easy to compose, let alone, actually play to the caliber displayed on this record. The talent displayed here is just staggering! Just amazing what happens when a band actually produces music for the love of the art instead of just trying to make money (and most likely one reason why I thought just about anything I've heard on the mainstream (commercial FM radio) pretty much sucked in the past 5 years or so).
The actual recording quality of the record is also phenomenal. It is very clean and very dynamic, with nary a hint of dynamic compression detected on here. The detail and clarity is just incredible. If at all remotely possible - listen to this on a good, high-end audio system (how I love my Klipsch Reference and B&K gear!). You will be blown away! A cheap $30 boom-box just cannot do this album justice. This has become one of my reference disks for checking out audio systems. I honostly cannot think of any flaws to take away from this album, other than I wish there were more. But I guess if it was too long, it would probably ended up just get ting bogged down.
This is most definitly recommended by anyone even remotely interested in power/progressive metal, especially of the epic/symphonic persuasion.
Progressive ADHD - Love it, one thing though..........2006-08-07
I'm slowly starting to like Sweden strictly on account of their metal exports. Speedy double Bass, symphonic keys, soaring vocals and chunky metallicious guitars are what I like best and this group does deilver all!
I love the Swedish drum production I've heard so far (Pain of Salvation, Ayeron, this album). It is really a good tone for technical styles like this... you don't miss a kick.
The Vocals are high-soaring alot which I like, and they have the same qwirkiness that Pain of Salvation has at times. I think at times, he's trying too hard to sound bluesy and soulish, this makes his accent prominent. Good or bad? You decide.
I like that machine-gun "One" thing they do in the first few minutes with the drummer and the guitarist that kind of tightness sold me when I heard that soundbites from Heavencross Records. There's also a really emotinoal guitar solo over an odd meter in the middle somewhere that reminds me of Hell's Kitchen (DT) or the middle of "Axis of Evil" (Black Utopia - Sherrinian). What is that he's doing in that hoakey shuffle beat part? It sounds like a sweep picking lick, or is it the keyboard guy? I like those Latin, Conan-the-Barbarian vocals at the begining and the end of the twilight. These are my memorable moments that I can't wait to hear when I play this tune on my iRiver. Good stuff.
BUT
What's with the 43 tracks? The whole thing is 37 minutes long thus, some tracks are a few minutes long, some are mere seconds! The idea, as stated on the insert, is that you can put the CD player on Shuffle and have a whole new combination of the tracks to love and cherrish. It's a good theory, but if you are an mp3 freako like me, there's some problems. It also seems to make the album suffer from a kind of musician's ADHD. It's hard to get into an 8 second riff or piano line.
The CD plays good straight through in the CD player but there is the inevitable gaps when in shuffle mode. The breaks also occur too soon or too late and aren't always exactly on the beat. To make matters worse, by their nature, mp3's are not meant to be played in a continuous, no-gap mode with or without shuffle. If your player supports it, you can use a slight crossfade, but then the beats are off. This really ruined the first listen for me. I had to do alot of extra labor to make the thing palatable for my picky iRiver listening ears.
I Ripped all the tracks as .wav files and used Wavelab 4.0 to melt them to gether seamlessly in an Audio Montage file. I rendered them two different ways. Once as a huge 37 minute masterpiece - as I felt it was meant to be heard (named Twilight Monster). During the process I also noticed that some parts sounded like song endings so I split the thing up into 4 distinct parts (First, Second, Third and Ultimate Twulight). I don't remember the sequences but it was roughly 12-14 tracks a piece. And just to try the "total" experience, I ripped the CD again (all 43 tracks) as seperate mp3s and put them in their own folder so I could do the "Twilight Shuffle".
This song-splitting thing must be a prog qwirk. Explorer's Club - Raising the Mammoth did the same thing to me and it ruined my first listen too. That album was easily melted together into 4 big songs, one of them over 20 minutes long... what else could a guy ask for? Why dice up the product? Anyways, that's the only reason that this reviewer gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Sorry to ruin your average, guys.
IT Should have 10 stars.......2006-07-19
BRILLIANT, AMAZING, WHOAAAAAAA, WHAT DID I JUST HEAR?????? This my friends is the most amazing piece of musically brilliance around today. What Beyond Twilight has done is nothing short of genius. 47 sections of varying length made into really just one long mulit part song. Here's a hint for you, listen to it one time thru with all tracks in order, then but you CD player on shuffle, and listen to the results. You will never listen to music in the same way again. This CD is so amazing i have almost worn it out so i but it on my MP3 player so i won't damage it. I always listen to this cd in my car's cd player while driving i put it on shuffle and just sit back and wait for the show to start. I have not heard it in the same order twice, and that is what makes it so amazing it is a different CD everytime. So metal fans order this and sit back one Saturday with a beer, and just enjoy. You will be amazed at the results.

A beguiling album.......2004-10-31
Someone had a brilliant notion in getting Leroy Anderson to write a show. (It wasn't the first time; he was hired for "Wonderful Town" but was ditched in favor of Leonard Bernstein.) That it didn't quite work may owe to the fact that he was largely written out, the best of his imperishable vest-pocket tone poems long in the past. Still, this is an utterly captivating score, superbly interpreted. If you want a complete idea how it sounds you might want to get MCA's budget two-disc anthology of Anderson conducting his own music, including several of the show's dance numbers; they almost make you forget how great Arthur Fiedler was with this master of the pops.
Broadway FLOP yields a HIT original cast album.......2004-02-13
This is another splendid original cast recording from Goddard Lieberson and Columbia records. Great score by Leroy Anderson by a fine cast headed by Elaine Stritch who is in great voice here. Don Ameche is her nemesis/love interest and Pat Stanley nearly steals the show with her first act number "The Pussy Foot."
The record is short (45 minutes) and does not include the dance pice "The Town House Maxixe" which can be heard on MCA's Leroy Anderson collection. What is on the CD is quite delightful and Sony has done a first rate job coaxing excellent sound from the early stereo tapes. The booklet gives a good essay on the history of the trobled show and a detailed plot summary.
a classic cult musical.......2002-10-19
GOLDILOCKS is one of my all-time favorite 'lost musicals'. It struggled through three months and 161 performances on Broadway, only to close after scathing reviews and dwindling audiences.
GOLDILOCKS was written by theater critic Walter Kerr as a love-letter to the silent movies that had captivated him as a child. The story concerns sardonic silent-actress Maggie Harris (Elaine Stritch) who has a stormy love-hate relationship with her cocky director (Don Ameche). Complications arise in the form of beautiful Lois Lee (Pat Stanley), who sets out to steal him for herself. Maggie decides to make one more picture under the assumed name of Goldilocks, and makes one last grab at romance...
The reason why the show failed so miserably was the weakness of the book, which was magnified a thousand times over by the greatness of the score; which features "Lazy Moon", "Lady in Waiting", "The Pussy Foot", "Where is the Beast in You?", and my personal favorite "I Never Know When to Say When".
Through its lovely cast album, the musical has a devout cult following and no wonder. Elaine Stritch in her first Broadway leading-role (after years of supporting work in revivals of PAL JOEY and ON YOUR TOES) and the sparkling score of Leroy Anderson is fantastic stuff. Highly recommended.
Sony Music.
Straight from Broadway's Golden Age: It's Goldilocks!.......2001-06-29
I first discovered Goldilocks through the double draw of Leroy Anderson and Elaine Stritch. Elaine Stritch I already knew as Joanne in Company singing "The Ladies Who Lunch", and Leroy Anderson was one of my favorite composers, known for such light programmatic and novelty orchestral pieces as The Syncopated Clock, Belle of the Ball, Bugler's Holiday, The Typewriter and Plink, Plank, Plunk. That combo of names caught my eye as I was flipping through the record bins one day, and as I scanned the album cover I saw the names Don Ameche, Nathaniel Frey and Margaret Hamilton which absolutely clinched the deal. I left the store with the record and went straight home to play it. From the moment I dropped the needle (yes, I've had it that long) I was captivated, and it has since become one of my perennial favorites.
The score is top notch, particularly in the material for Stritch and the perfectly cast Don Ameche. It does sag a bit in the material for the secondary couple, but I think that's because it's the primary couple who are the comedians while the secondary couple gets stuck with the sappy side of romance. Yes, there are book problems. Walter Kerr later admitted that they kept beefing up the comedy at the expense of the love story, and reading through the book (which through an incredible stroke of good fortune I found at a local Half Price Books) that's a fair criticism. But this weakness doesn't overwhelm the show and make it unworkable. I have to agree with the assessment that with The Music Man already running featuring a slightly more lovable con artist and a sweet rather than brassy leading lady, Goldilocks wasn't able to measure up to the competition. Taken on its own terms though, Goldilocks works wonderfully.
To mention particular favorites of mine in the score, I have to start with Stritch's Act 2 torch song, "I Never Know When To Say When". Why didn't this become a standard? It stacks up with the best Broadway has to offer. You can hear the pain in Stritch's voice as she laments the mess she's made of her relationhips. "Give the Little Lady" near the top of Act 1 doesn't really cover much in the realm of plot, but it's just so much fun, and "The Beast In You" never fails to get me laughing. All of these feature Stritch alone or with the chorus, but her duet with Ameche, "No One'll Ever Love You", is just as good, and Ameche's solo number, "I Can't Be In Love", in which he discovers to his astonishment that he is indeed in love, is priceless. Then on top of that is "Bad Companions" for Don Ameche's shady sidekicks Nathaniel Frey (an excellent comic character actor who appeared in many better known shows such as Damn Yankees and She Loves Me) and Margaret Hamilton (the Wicked Witch of the West sings!) which is a hoot from start to finish. These are the standouts in my book, but the whole score is eminently listenable, pleasant and tuneful. Of course with Leroy Anderson writing the music it couldn't be anything else.
I sometimes wish I had been born 30-40 years earlier so I could have actually seen what I am only able to get the barest hint of from reading the libretto and listening to the cast album. I strongly recommend to anyone who has had enough interest to wind up here reading these reviews to make this show a permanent part of your collection. More people need to know this show!
Worth your investment - A real delight!.......2001-01-14
Having learned about the life of Leroy Anderson through the recent PBS story on his career,I was very interested to hear this famous composer's only Broadway show.
This original cast recording is a gem. The majority of the songs are first rate, the perfomers are all first rate and the recording quality sounds as fine as anything on the market today. What a shame that the show had such serious problems, such as a weak book and opening with such hits as West Side Story and Music Man already running on Broadway.
If you enjoy Broadway musicals and don't know this show, buy this recording. You will not be disappointed!

Keeps blowin!!.......2002-06-18
I just left the official Web site for John Klemmer.com and after hearing samples after samples of his earlier works, I must say that he continues to be ahead of his time.
This CD is no different. I have bought most of his CD's and continue to look for others. This man is fantastic on the sax. If anyone is looking for contemporary Jazz sax with some emotional tracks, then this CD should be in your collection.
Picks Up Where "Music" Left Off..........2001-12-05
Wonderful Sax on this album. Klemmer seems to know what a Sax is for. Lilting melodies continue where his 1989 "Music" album left off. One of my all time favorite Sax players...if you own enjoy Mr Klemmer's "smooth side"...you'll love this CD.
