Same songs, different packaging.......2006-09-17

I'm not sure what's going on with this....it's the exact same tracks as the original Back to Love collection that Mark Doyle compiled in 1999. Are they re-issuing all the old discs (a la George Lucas' 'Star Wars')??? It's a good collection, but if you have the 1999 version, it's the same.

Good stuff!.......2005-01-10

The latest BACK TO LOVE compilation does not disapoint. This series boasts club hits from the late 80s to early 90s. Great fun to listen to and dance with!

There's a few things I like about Hed Kandi, and this compilation is a good example. For one, they use different artists you don't always hear on other compilations, so there is definately variety. Secondly, with most Hed Kandi releases you can expect some excellent cover songs that are done tastefully and will keep you hitting the repeat button. A few mentionables in clude Dina Carroll & Quartz's take on Carole King's "It's Too Late" which is very nice, Double Trouble doing a cover of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore", Secret Life doing a cover of Stevie Wonder's "As Always" to name a few.

Another thing I like is you are bound to find some rare tracks. In the liner notes it says that Primal Scream's "Loaded" (Terry Farley Remix) was only on limited pressings, and that the Lisa Stansfield and Blue Zone track "Big Thing" is a very rare b-side that was hard to get a hold of. But most importantly, the music is great.

Some of my favorites include a nice house remix of Ce Ce Peniston's "We Got A Love Thang", a great mix of Sam Ellis "Club Lonely", Dionne "Come Get My Lovin", Funky Green Dog Ftrom Outer Space "Reach For Me", from disc one. Disc two (other than the ones I've listed) highlights include SWV "Right Here", Innocence "Natural Thing", but the real highlight is the shiny disco number by Sub Sub feat Melanie Williams "Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)", a highlight for sure.

Definately worth picking up and adding to your collection!

I've always been a fan of Hed Kandi, but mainly I was into the Winter Chill collection, and a few from Beach House. Finally, however, I decided it was time to live a little and see what else Hed Kandi had to offer. So I picked up Back to Love 03.04.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Would it be romantic love ballads? Or some dancey house music? I found out, though, that it wasn't really either. It is definately house music, but in a quirky fun kinda way. The cover shows a girl on a bicycle licking a lolipop, and that's really exactly what this album sounds like. It's not dance music, it's not chill music, it's funky house music, with a lolipop twist.

As always, Hed Kandi features ''Highlights'' that really make their albums better than any others. On CD1 track 3, 8, 10, 11, 12 are absolutely amazing. on CD2 ''Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)'' steals the show.

Hed Kandi fans know that just because there's only 6 or 7 Highlight songs doesn't mean the rest is trash. There's not a single track that would require a skip. Some are just awesome, and some are just really really good.

Personally folks, I spent my good money to buy this collection for one song: "Why" by Carly Simon (the extended version).

I had "Why" on wax back in the early 80's. It was produced by the Chic Organization and had the Chic "sound" that I clamored for so much! The 'extended' version of "Why" (7:20) is only available on Disc 2 of this collection (at least to my knowledge)!

To be fair, the rest of the disk has some gems. I give the collection 4 out of five stars

Back to Love.......2005-05-05

BACK TO LOVE is one of my favorite Hed Kandi compilations. It takes club hits from the late 80s to the early 90s and has them unmixed on two discs. This edition happens to be one of my favorites in the collection. Disc one focuses more on the club hits. Highlights include Todd Terry's "Weekend", Slave to the Vibe's 12" mix of "Aftershock", Ann Consuelo's "Save The day" (Stonebridge remix), and more. Disc two is more hip hop driven. Not as good as the first disc but it still has its moments. Overall a great collection that will bring you back in time and make you smile.

I really like this entry into the BACK TO LOVE series. There's a lot of great tracks here! The songs are from the late 80s and early 90s, some are more dance flavored, others are straight up hip hop and funk. Some of my favorites include Kenny Thomas' "Outstanding", Crystal Waters' "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)", Robin S' "Show Me Love", Miles Jays "Heaven", Nu Colours "Greater Love", and Frances Nero's "Footsteps (Following Me)". Great collection of past hits!

Hed Kandi comes with the newest on the back to love series. a 88-93 flashback to "love songs" that are gonna make u feel the beat. The versatility of the label is shown one more time, in a "sweet" disc that will keep the smooth party on. Excellent CD. Great compilation of music. Used for a four hour drive, and it made the travel that much more pleasant. It's just right in tempo and energy.

This volume is getting harder and harder to find, which is unfortunate, because it is loaded with big tracks that are hard to get on CD. Get it while you still can. Unlike some volumes of Hed Kandi, none of the tracks sound like they were mastered from vinyl--I sometimes hear pops from the records on this series. Track times:

Disappointing After Volume 1.......2001-05-26

I was not clubbing at the time these songs made their grade, so I do not have a context to put them against, but when I heard Back to Love Volume 1, it made my heart race, my face smile, and my feet move - over and over. So it was with much anticipation that I went out and bought Vol II the day it was released. Upon further listening, I have come to appreciate it, but it does not have the sparkle, charm, or magic of Vol I. These songs just do not seem to be composed as well as the ones on the previous album. BTW, I am a big fan of Hed Kandi and Mark Doyle (Deeper!, Serve Chilled!, Beach House!!), but am not a big fan of the other Disco Kandi series. So if you like the Disco Kandi series, you may like this album (Back to Love II).

Hed Kandi has done it again - Respect then, to Mark Doyle for this latest addition to the very wonderful Hed Kandi compilation series.

Back to Love - the first compilation of massive tunes to encapsulate the 'spirit of '89' was superb, and if you don't already have it in your collection, then its a must buy.

Back to Love 2 follows the first installment by again tapping into a rich musical vein.

What do you get for your money? Two more discs of wonderful tracks that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and (hopefully) take you back to some amazing times from the past... :-)

Disc 1 contains such wonders as Kariya - Let me Love you for Tonight, Ce Ce Rogers - Someday, and other tracks with huge piano intros that have frankly, never been surpassed - Degrees of Motion and Rhythim is Rhythim to name but two.

Disc 2 celebrates Classic Disco with one of my all time favourite tracks by First Choice - Let No Man Put Asunder, Rare Groove, Hip-Hop and Classic Soul (Archie & The Drells - Don't let Love get you down).

If you were clubbing at the time these tracks were first released, then this compilation will take you straight back, with a smile. If you're a little younger, then I still urge you to buy this CD and listen to some of the most memorable and defining musical moments of the dance generation.

This is the third installment of the BACK TO LOVE series from Hed Kandi. It is a nice retrospective of club hits from the late 80s and early 90s. The first disc is usually filled with club classics, while the second disc focuses more on hip hop and funkier tracks. While I wasn't in the clubs when these songs were being played, some of them I do remember from my youth, and either way it's just good music. Highlights include En Vogue's "Hold On", Ce Ce Peniston's "Finally", Frankie Knuckles "Your Love", and many more. The great thing is these are all the full length mixes.

mastered from vinyl!!!! A real downer to a great series........2005-01-07

I bought this, my first volume of the hed kandi series, and while I'm thrilled to have the full length 12" mixes of many of these classics on CD, I can't overlook the fact that you can HEAR pops in the vinyl records that many of these songs were obviously mastered from for this compilation. Listen to this CD through headphones and you'll notice it much more at certain points. While it isn't the worst thing and it sounds like effort was made to clean up the sound quality, it makes me hesitant to buy another volume of this series. Why spend so much money for CD quality when all you're getting is vinyl quality recorded onto CD??? I could do that at home with my recordable CD player and my turntable...

I've Got Nothing but "Love" for This CD........2002-12-21

"Back to Love" is a double CD that affectionately looks back to the old school (1980's to early 90s) and delivers a generous serving of delectable early club hits. For a lot of labels, it's a great concept, but the execution sometimes results in advestised-on-TV compilations that have "K-tel" cheese written all over them. Fortunately, the selections on this disc are tasteful and will bring a smile to the face of any serious clubhead. Adeva's powerful house re-working of Aretha's "Respect" sounds even better today, and it's a reminder of the glory years when house was truly rooted in soul. Sterling Void's "It's Alright" (which Pet Shop Boys would later cover) appears, and the tragically out-of-print "Too Blind To See It" from Kym Sims (produced by Chicago's Steve "Silk" Hurley) is another highlight that stands out on the 70+ minute Disc 1. On the second disc, the tempo changes a bit, still offering a few disco jams but also flirting with r&b and hip-hop. Detroit's Inner City serves up a discocentric remake of Stephanie Mills' "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'," and Shannon's still slammin' 1980s "Let The Music Play" appears in its full length. For hip hop lovers, the classic "White Lines" will satisfy their crave, and Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire" still holds up as a disco stomper. As with virtually all Hed Kandi releases, the songs here aren't mixed, and many of them appear in their 12-inch extended versions. If you want a great collection of what great dance music used to sound like, you can't go wrong with these two CDs.

Don't Buy!!!!.......2002-01-26

I picked this up at a used CD shop and no wonder the person got rid of it! I am a huge Hed Kandi fan (they've saved my life musically). But I have to be frank, this really, really, really is an awful compilation. Out of the 24 tracks on this double CD compilation I only enjoyed 3 songs. Those are "Respect" by Adeva, "Passion of your passion " by Gat Decor and "Whatcha Gonna Do with my Lovin" by Inner City. The rest of the songs are simply R&B tracks from the late 80's early 90's (a period I loathed). Hed Kandi is a great lable but they have so much better compilations out there. Skip this one.

This volume is getting harder and harder to find, which is unfortunate, because it is loaded with big tracks that are hard to get on CD. Get it while you still can. I've noticed some volumes of Hed Kandi master from vinyl, but I didn't detect any pops on this volume. Track times:
