Jazz+Electronica+Afro-Cuban+Brazilian=New Latinaires.......2001-01-05
Third in a series of fine compilations featuring some of the best in Latin infused electronica. This is rockin club beats from around the globe but inspired by and dominated by Brazilian and Afro-Cuban grooves. Some of the performers are making a reappearance from the previous Latinaires compilations. The music is heavily jazz laden but mixed to perfection with electronica elements that blend nicely with the Latin sound. Heavy on percussion, the songs have been remixed for that seemingly endless beat for the clubs. Great stuf to listen to whenever you want to kick the tempo up. The tracks are similar in style and my particular favorites are "Casa Forte", a remix by Pathless of the Snowboy club anthem. I first heard the original mix on the net from a London club and loved it, it's good to hear a remix. Another fave is the scat induced "Batunova Scat" with it's Brazillian flavored bass line. Jonah Sharp lends his production talents to the infectious vibe grooves laid down by Dave Pike on "Bronx Blue", be warned it's hipnotic, like electric Santeria. Fun stuff to listen to for ethnic inspired beats. Impossible to listen to sitting still, you gotta move, get your motor moving, shift into high gear and enjoy the sounds of the New Latinaires.
Fun.......2000-10-20
This is a really fun, eclectic-sounding cd. It'll spice up your cd collection and give you something to listen to when you're tired of the same old thing on the radio. Great for dancing.

Samba Goes Clubbing.......2000-05-26
This is good club music with a Latin flair. Electronica meets third world culture. This is the music I would imagine might be playing in a Rio club late at night. Most of the mixes have a nice groove and each song varies in length from 6 minutes to 12 minutes. The CD features various stylings that include exotic female vocals, jazzy sax and flute, rain forestesque sounds, breakbeat, dub, drum n bass, house , post-acid ,free-jazz and from dreamy to funky to frentic rhythmns. The various stylings to a Latin Beat create a nice blend of music that makes you want to shake your booty. The concept is interesting and is driven but at moments sounds contrived and uninspired. The overall effect is good although I do believe too many stylings are employed. The strength of this CD are the haunting female vocals blended with the Brazilian flavors and the Latin jazz tones of the horn sections. This CD will put Rio in your own neighborhood. This is late night music that will have you questioning whether you should chill just yet.
Ideal introduction to latin-inspired nu-jazz & jazzy-house.......2000-02-04
Ubiquity has long been considered a pioneer in quality afro/cuban-jazz fusion; those awesome guys in SF now sumarize some of the best moments of dancefloor-friendly underground latin diaspora into two monumental compilations (latinaires vol 1, 2). If you are an open-minded house/nu-jazz listener, go buy these two albums, then look for similar releases by Compost, Nuphonic, Talkin' Loud etc

Latin meets machine.......1999-08-05
The remixers and creators who contributed to this disc did not attempt to transfer the entire body of Afro-Cuban/Brazilian music into electronica, which is the usual M.O. for this type of project. Instead, they pulled out certain elements, at will not at random, from each of those paradigms in a unique fashion. It's equally easy to listen and dance to this album. To cap it off, Ubiquity gradually faded out the electronics, starting with the downtempo, melodic "Tristesea", and continuing through to the creative original "Picadillo", which has definite Eddie Palmieri modal descarga vibes, to the original "Welcome to the Party" - think of a Brazilian escola da samba operating in California in the early 1970s.
