This album OWNS!!!.......2007-06-13
This album shows why L.A. Guns were ust as good as Guns N Roses. Awesome album, hard and heavy Guns style. Best rock n roll out there. Sickly underrated!!
Re-Issue Please!.......2007-05-22
This is one of the studio albums I don't have by L.A. Guns, (the other being American Hardcore, for obvious reasons). I got A Night On The Strip (LIVE) for the reason that there are a few songs from this CD on it...still kicking myself for not purchasing this CD when it first came out in '95 I believe it was. Would be great if they would reissue, remaster, add some bonus cuts...whatever, with all the new albums they have had out lately like Waking The Dead, Man On The Moon you would think this one would deserve some notice also. Hopefully they will do it right, not re-recording, or re-releasing another greatest hits, but rather just remastering this one for long time fans who have overlooked this gem.
LA GUNS JOURNEY!.......2006-08-30
Let Mr. PHIL LEWIS take YOU on a journey! You may not want to return!!!! ha ha (I love this cd) EVERY single track is rockn' and really really makes U feel the music, keeps you wanting more and just keep rolling along on this magical music journey! LA GUNS just keeps giving us great music! Please do yourself a favor and purchase this magnificient cd! ENJOY! Miss Kelly
Unfairly never got a chance.......2005-12-17
After a three year hiatus, the LA Guns returned to the scene in 1994 for their fourth album "Vicious Circle." The musical landscape had seen a major change between the release of "Hollywood Vampires" (1991) and "Vicious Circle." The LA Guns brand of sleazy pop-metal that had so defined the band's first three albums was completely passé by the mid 90s. In 1994 it was all about grunge and alternative rock.
Pop metal bands who enjoyed success in the late 80s and early 90s generally responded to the public's change in taste in one of two ways. They either lived in a vacuum, acting as though Nirvana and Pearl Jam had never taken place (Vince Neil) or they embraced a pseudo grunge/alternative sound in an attempt to modernize (Motley Crue). The LA Guns opted for a third option; keep the main elements of their sound but make a very aggressive album.
So what you have with "Vicious Circle" is a 80s pop-metal band, a product of the sunset strip, trying to fit in to the alt-rock 90s without selling out. "Vicious Circe" succeeds in this attempt. The band still encompasses their signature Aerosmith/Zeppelin riffs, melody and sing along choruses, only the band eschews much of the sleaze that had been a major element of their first three albums. The band also sounds far more aggressive, but without sounding forced, a problem that pretty much ruined the band's next release "American Hardcore" (1996). Although the songs aren't quite as catchy or memorable as those on the first three albums, the band hadn't sounded this edgy or hungry since their self-titled debut (1988). Guitarist Tracii Guns came up with a batch of great riffs that leaves the listener feeling fully satisfied.
"Vicious Circle" would prove to be the end of an era. It was the band's last album with its (mostly) original lineup until 2001's "Man on the Moon." Phil Lewis, (vocals) Mick Cripps (guitar) and Kelly Nickels (bass) would not return for the follow-up album. Only Tracii Guns would be back for "American Hardcore." The band's usual drummer Steve Riley sat out "Vicious Circle" and is replaced by a number of studio players (he would be back for all subsequent LAG releases).
Although the LA Guns released a fine album, "Vicious Circle" unfortunately went nowhere commercially. After the release of Nirvana's "Nevermind" the line was drawn in the sand. With the emergence of grunge and alternative rock, many great bands had their careers torpedoed. The LA Guns were unfortunately one of grunge rock's victims. This is a shame, because while "Vicious Circle" isn't a masterpiece, it's still a better than average rock album that deserves to be heard.
If you are a fan of the band and missed "Vicious Circle" the first time around, try giving it a second chance today.
It All Started Here For Me.......2005-09-18
It all started with this L.A.Guns cd for me, it was the VERY first cd I ever owned, thats probably why I love it so much, but theres something more about this album that I love besides the fact that it was my first album. They got a little bit harder then what fans were use to hearing from the first 3 albums and I think thats a reason why some fans were dissapointed, but for me it was dissapointing at all, I dont know I just love this style that they did, its not what L.A.Guns is really about, but ive never heard this hard rock style sound so good, they did a great job on this album and I do recommend it for true L.A.Guns fans, give this album a chance, it will truly grow on you.

Vicious Circle-CLASSIC .......2004-10-06
The Zero Boys w/ Terry Howe, guitar, were one of the best bands of the 80s & of all time as far as classic Punk. I also happen to be a big fan of Toxic Reasons, Terry's subsequent band (Bullets for You being my 1st intro to his guitar playing). I had the pleasure of not only meeting Terry & his wife, but having played w/ him in Urban Disturbance in Naples, FL in the early 90s. Terry's guitar playing is CLASSIC. You won't be disappointed if your a fan of SO Cal & DC Punk. Sheila, Terry is sorely missed.
i love it.........2004-05-09
this album has to go down as one of the best ever...
Discover this punk classic........2004-01-27
Vicious Circle is a classic punk album that doesn't get the recognition of other punk classics. Most of these punk lists don't even have it on them. One girl who did called them english pop-punk, but they were a punk/hardcore band from Indiana. Their sound was simalar to DEAD KENNEDYS. Fast and hard but still very catchy and without the political preaching. If you claim to be a fan of punk rock you have to have this cd. I guarantee you'll like it and put it at the top of your list. And one more thing, how can the woman who was married to the guitar player only give this 3 stars?
Long live the Zero Boyz!.......2003-10-16
The Zero Boyz were very popular in the 80's in Indianapolis. I was what you would call a "groupie" of the Zero Boyz, and ultimately married the guitar player, Terry Howe (Hollywood).
The band had a very hard edge and was just getting started when they broke up. I have a collection of Zero Boyz albums that I have passed on to my twin boys, because their father Terry passed away 2 years ago. I have always loved punk rock bands, and I think the Zero Boyz were one of the best!
Nothing quite like old fashioned hardcore!.......2000-12-21
It was one thing to come form the city and be in one of the more established hardcore scenes like Washington DC or California where labels were more well established like SST, Alternative Tentacles, and Dischord Records. But it is one thing to make yourself known from a small area like Indiana. But this band managed to make there mark. Paul Mahern was like the second coming of Darby Crash, yet he was original enough to keep it unique. Everything just flows perfectly on this cd. You might question some of Rancid's orginality after hearing this album (with bonus tracks to.) I swear this is one of my new favriotes after I gave this one a spin...
To bad this band only lasted like 3 years, they probably would have acquired some more recognition like bigger bands back then like Black Flag or the Dead Kennedys... Truly a great band...

hard to believe.......2006-09-06
some would consider this an unlikely combination. but not if you actually listen
to either artist. yann's excellent 'le phare' is quite close to this collaboration....
i had to pick up my copy in paris, not being able to snag one in store- i like to support stores that go this exrta length. but back to the music. i dont think a
piece of work has given me such joy in afew years, and believe me, i listen to almost
everything. i cant even single out fave tracks- it becomes one lovely opera to me.
if you liked pj harvey's last (uh-huh-her) or marianne faithfull's latest, youll love this.
cant recommend it highly enough. stephen spera
A surprising but excellent collaboration.......2005-10-06
Shannon Wright's recorded output has grown more and more interesting since her solo debut Flight Safety. From Maps of Tacit up through Over the Sun, her lyrics and music have just gotten more powerful. But I was very surprised to hear about this project and intrigued to get it when it came out. What we have is at least up there with the best of Shannon's solo work. The album is softer than Wright's recent releases, but very interesting. Tiersen's musical arrangements are at the forefront, but Wright also contributes to the instrumentation. I find track 6, right now anyhow, "While You Sleep" to be the best intertwining of their separate styles, both come across strongly and the result is very interesting. This is not Tiersen's more upbeat style that some may remember from what was compiled for the Amelie score. Still, those who were introduced to his work through that may still find much to like here as well.
mismatched.......2005-06-28
Wright's vocal do little but frustrate Tiersen's melody. She is consistently off-pitch, consistently over dramatic and breathy, and the lyrics read like something out a highschool journal, one with READ OR DIE poured over it in black sharpie. I was hopeful - after the first 4 tracks, which are the best on the record, I was hopeful that they would be able to tie it all together. The mood was lush and interesting - Yann has done a nice job, but still I cringe with every listen.
Maybe I will grow to appreciate Wright's vocals, but I don't think so. Tiersen may not be good enough to make this good enough to buy.

Mellow, man.......2004-06-03
The most relaxing, mellow CD I've ever had the good fortune to put in my CD player. No matter what mood I'm in, it reduces me to reflections on life and other sundry philosophical tidbits. My one complaint is that Jennifer Jason leigh is not heard reading all the poems she reads in the movies, but as compalints go, it's a fairly small one in light of how incredibly lush and gorgeous this score is. For more great Mark Isham scores, give The Cooler a listen. Listening to it while walking around town turns your life into a movie.

Album Description
Vicious Circle is an unrelenting force. A steamroller of adrenaline. For over 15 years, these New Jersey based legends have been churning out brutality with their own brand of extreme chaos. Never compromising and never bowing down to the norm. What they unleash is utter devastation and now they have the forum to reveal to the masses "The Art of Agony".

VICIOUS CIRCLE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-12-18
A MOST incredible release! Never before have I heard such execution performed the way this band does. Every track has its own identity. Technical riffs, brutal breakdowns, demented vocals and amazing guitar solos! Killer production too. This band can start a whole new breed of Death Metal...Jersey style! One of my favorite all time bands. The Art Of Agony is another example of why Vicious Circle should be a band to recognize.
