Product Description
"The Enforcer" was the third film of the five film Dirty Harry series, and the only of the films composed by the late composer Jerry Fielding. The other four films all boasted scores by Lalo Schifrin. Aleph Records, has also released the scores for the first two films of the series, "Dirty Harry" and "Magnum Force." The entire original score for "The Enforcer" has never been released, only excerpts from the score appeared on the original soundtrack LP.
"The Enforcer," of course starred Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry Callahan. The film also starred Tyne Daly as Inspector Kate Moore, his rookie partner. Callahan and Moore are on the hunt for a group of terrorists blackmailing the city of San Francisco. Though at first he is not pleased to be partnered with Moore, and in truth, Callahan s partners have not fared well in the past, Moore proves herself an able partner.
Composer Jerry Fielding had a long and storied career. He began in the 40s as a bandleader with his own television show and fell victim to McCarthysm, blacklisted from Hollywood in the 1950s. His return to Hollywood came in 1962, hired by Otto Preminger to compose the score for" Advise and Consent." He began working in episodic television, scoring episodes of both "Mission: Impossible" and "Star Trek." It was his work on "Noon Wine" that started Fielding s relationship with Sam Peckinpah, which would lead Fielding back to the big screen.
When Lalo Schifrin, composer of both "Dirty Harry" and "Magnum Force," was unavailable to compose the score for "The Enforcer," the job fell to composer Jerry Fielding. Fielding was perhaps best known for his collaborations with Sam Peckinpah, ("The Wild Bunch," "Straw Dogs," "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia") and Michael Winner ("Scorpio," "The Big Sleep," "Lawman"). For Fielding "The Enforcer" led to future collaborations with Clint Eastwood films like "The Outlaw Josey Wales" (his third and final Academy AwardTM nomination), "Escape From Alcatraz," and "The Gauntlet."

OK.......2005-03-17
Good CD, especially if you're a fan of Mark O'Conner. I have to admit that a couple of the tracks seem rather directionless (in a Vaughn Williams sort of way) and I tend to lose interest, but other tracks are fun, even exciting. The production is excellent throughout.
Great Music.......2004-02-27
I watched the documentary and heard Mark O'Connor play this piece in a concert and loved it immediately. The music is great to help the battles come alive but great for just listening to anyway.
GREAT SOUNDTRACK!.......2003-07-04
Fine CD full of great pieces of music from a great miniseries! Full of patriotism! I highly recommend it! Grade: A+
Finest Music Ever Heard.......2002-03-27
I heard this music on the excellent P B S Documentary: "Liberty - the American Revolution" and I knew I had to have it! It is the finest music I have heard, capturing the heart and soul of the American Revolution. The documentary "Liberty" was a masterpiece that was beautiful and moving. So too this music with its most wonderful arrangements and accompaniment. I love it! I could hardly wait to get it in the mail. It framed the documentary (which I also bought) like a great frame compliments a beautiful canvas painting. Superlatives fail me. This music must be experienced by first watching the great series on the American Revolution and then by listening to it apart. This is some of the most wonderful music I have ever heard. It reminds me of the genius of Aaron Copland who wrote the Applachian Spring and Rodeo suites.
Stirring Americana.......2001-11-10
This CD stands on its own merits as good music, not simply as music for a TV show. It evokes images of America old and new. O'Connor's violin carries us from the dance hall to the battlefield to the sorrow of lover's lost. Simple melodies twist and turn, rising up from their solid American roots. James Taylor's solemn rendition of "Johnny's Gone for a Soldier"is as true a telling of the grief of the soldier lost to war today as it was hundreds of years ago. Sit in a comfortable chair in the warm light of evening and let it surround you. To know where we have come from offers hope that the magic of freedom and liberty will not desert us in these troubled times.

Justheppy review of The Party soundtrack.......2007-06-27
I must apologise because I don't have the CD with me right now, so I won't try to describe each song, etc. What I will say is that I have played the CD a couple of times and have enjoyed it from the start. Apart from this, I have seen the film countless of times and am a very big fan of it, to say the least! I simply had to purchase the soundtrack for its 60's style music ('The Party' and its cool jazz pieces, etc.) - They just don't make music like this anymore! So, YES, I absolutely recommend this soundtrack. Yeah, I can even say that, in my opinion, it's a very well mastered and arranged CD, etc. So, definitely go for it.
Great CD, excellent all the way!!.......2002-10-15
I bought this cd at Amazon.co.uk (before it was available here), 'cos I've always been a big fan of Mancini's music, and of Blake Edwards' and Peter Sellers' 1960's movies, in fact I love Sellers' screen persona. This album was a must have for me, it was a matter of buying it or buying it. Only regret, it does not include Claudine Longet's original vocal version for "Nothing To Lose", but anyway it's just great. If you like this cd, I recommend to you, both: "Pink Panther" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" soundtracks, plus "Martinis with Mancini".
Birdy Num Num.......2002-08-12
Cool jazzy party music for retro-maniacs. PS, the movie is one of the funniest of all times.

Album Description
"Now, when it comes to filth and flair Weatherall has no peers, and the Rotters Golf Club label is merely the latest manifestation of his maverick mindset. His CV stretches back through the electro-dub of Two Lone Swordsmen and the soundtrack techno of Sabres Of Paradise, to the early days of acid house
[and] the machine funk displayed on his From The Bunker mix is thrillingly and throbbingly contemporary." - BBC
Hurrah & huzzah, another DJ mix CD! Originally destined only for Japan (but now available at domestic prices), this is a diary of the past, present and future down at the Rotters Golf Club. For those unfamiliar with Rotters, it is the perfect introduction. For the familiar, it is a change to hear favorites from the back catalog mixed live without the thief of time. From the downtempo John Carpenter stylings of R3MOTE to the booty glitch of Klart, this is fractured machine beat action for those that want to live outside the loop.

The summer of 1979 seemed to be John Stewart's season. With the brooding hit "Gold," the former Kingston Trio member attained the chart success that had long alluded him. A year and a half later, he had no label, no chance for a follow-up. But in the early '80s, Stewart was making some very catchy, literate, and accessible pop music. These unreleased (and nearly destroyed) early '80s demos are the evidence. Stewart reworks some old Kingston Trio numbers, some gems from his '60s and '70s country-folk career, and adds many new lyrics, never heard before or since. The demo sound--a bit tinny and remote--doesn't do justice to the fine songwriting contained here, nor does the occasionally overwrought and overly rocking arrangements. More streamlined, almost Byrds-like efforts such as "Cheyenne" and "Diamonds in the Coal" get closer to the poetic soul of Stewart's folk-rock vision. Newcomers might be perplexed by this spotty compilation, but those passionate about this underappreciated journeyman singer-songwriter will warmly welcome the discoveries. --Roy Kasten
Customer Reviews:
Good to have the music back!.......2005-07-29
Demos? Garage recording? Well, maybe so, but this is still excellent work so strong that it will make little difference to the listener that some of it wasn't done in a studio. Avid Stewartistas and Bloodliners (and you know who you are...) will want this CD to add to their collection of America's best living singer-songwriter (yes, I am serious about that) and for the sheer poetic energy this master artist provides. Newcomers will find the tracks enticing and can rest assured they will not be disappointed and will soon join those who appreciate this under-appreciated artist. If you like folk and/or rock, listen to Cheyenne, Under Heavy Fire, and Wide Eyed in Babylong. Folksters who've been around a while will find Molly Dee and Old John Webb echoing from a time when folk music was dominant. Give it a try - you can't go wrong.
you gotta be kiddin.......2003-01-18
That's right. You gotta be kiddin with this recording of John Stewart. Appleseed Recordings used two tin cans and a string to record this cd. And the string was broken. Where do they get off putting this garbage out. I've heard pirate recordings of John Stewart taken 100 yards from the stage that sound better than this. Wow, get some equipmemt guys. I give John Stewart seven stars for the music, one star for recording with these guys, and zero for the recording. He's not a happy guy about this recording either, just look at his face on the back of the cd. Neither am I. Buy something else. Like anything else.
Bartender, give this man a label!.......2002-06-12
That's right, if only this icon of music quality had had a record label at the time, we could have enjoyed this music almost 20 years ago. Shame on the music industry for overlooking this incredibly talented man. Please don't be dissuaded by certain comments in the featured review. The arrangements are not "overwrought" or "overly rocking". They are warm and pleasurably rocking. Do I detect a folk purist? John is a first class rocker on American Way, Under Heavy Fire, Liddy Buck, and All the Desperate Men. But if you love folk music, there is plenty here to please you, notably The Escape of Old John Webb, Cheyenne, and Tears of the Sun. The sound quality is fine and is not "tinny" - despite being in storage 18 years in a garage.
The CD is generously endowed with 18 songs, but not all are equally good. Listen to Tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15, and you have a very solid 12-track album. Taking all 18 tracks together, a weakness emerges, the weakness of repetition. You notice a sameness between the lesser songs and some of the better ones that robs the better ones of some of their power. You notice that there are too many songs in a major key, and it makes you long for a "Gold" or "Midnight Wind". When a minor key song finally comes along (#16) it is a weak one. A little more pruning by John and Tom would have made this collection a real killer. In giving this collection 5 stars, I am pretending they had done so.
Woah. Yeah! Let the Big Horse Runnnnn!.......2001-10-05
What else can you say but Thanks Tom Delisle! This is right up there in my book with California Bloodlines, Cannons in the Rain, The Phoenix Concerts and Bandera as the best the Big Dude has ever done. What a shame there was no label smart enough to release it at the time. John was on a roll, wasn't he? There are 18 songs here, of course not all are created equal. But the 10 - 12 best songs are better than anything else you might have heard in the early 80's, by anyone. AND BTW, these recordings were DEMOS, thrown in a box in John's garage, so of course the recording quality is not what you'd expect from a major-label release.
A long-hidden gem emerges!.......2001-04-15
John Stewart is one of the most underappreciated singer-songwriters in the world. I've been a fan of his since his Kingston Trio days and have enjoyed the dozens (!) of albums he has put out on his own. This new CD, chock-full of beautiful songs long-buried in a box in John's closet, is stunning to listen to. Some of his most beautiful songs ever (and I thought I had heard them all) appear on this CD. "It Might As Well Be Love" can make you cry and "Under Heavy Fire" is a rocker that you will find in your head all day long. Other songs ("Cheyenne," "The Escape of Old John Webb") have been on John's or the Kingston Trio's albums before, but have exciting new performances here. John's guitar work on "Cheyenne" is absolutely magnificent and his new arrangement of "The Escape of Old John Webb" breathes wonderful new life into this classic American folk song. If you are a longtime John Stewart fan, this CD is like a dream come true. If you are unfamiliar with John, this album is one of his finest and a great introduction to this modern-day Woody Guthrie.

Customer Reviews:
It's a classic.......2004-03-14
Gems are not always known - they may shine in the backroom only, ready to be re-discovered.
If you love straigh-forward, honest bluesy Rock n'Roo, this one is for you. Steve Gibbob's voice is one of the rare ones - once heard - never forgotten.
Why, for heavens' sake, did he never make it "big"????
Career Highlight.......2003-11-05
This was the first Steve Gibbons album I ever heard, and now that I've heard quite a few others, I can tell you that none of the rest come close to this one. Although it's solid from start to finish, the highlight is clearly the title track, "Down In The Bunker". The imagery mixes "bunker" as used in military terms with the golf version of the word. Somehow in the midst of this strange world halfway between a golf round and a wartime battle, a nude woman appears in the bunker to tempt our hero. While all of this is going on, ultra-tasty guitar leads fill the gaps between vocal lines, very much in the style of Dire Straits' "Sultans Of Swing". It's a great song, highly recommended especially for Mark Knopfler fans. If you like Gibbons but don't have this album, then absolutely, you must get it. If you're curious about Gibbons, this is the best pleace to start.
MAGNUS OPUS.......2003-09-17
THANKS TO JOHN TOBLER AND THE WONDERFUL FOLK @ ROAD GOES ON FOREVER RECORDS THIS HAS NOW BEEN REISSUED. AND WHAT A WONDERFUL JOB THEY DID ON THE REISSUE! ADDITIONAL TRACKS INCLUDE THE "BUNKER TAPES" AND AN ADDED BONUS OF "TULANE". STEVE GIBBONS IS THE MOST UNDERRATED ARTIST IN ROCK N ROLL. HE'S ONE HIP AND SAVVY PERFORMER, AND IT SHOWS IN HIS MUSIC, ESPECIALLY THE LYRICS. HE CAN BE LIKE EDDIE COCHRAN IN "EDDY VORTEX" OR LIKE BOB DYLAN IN "GRACE" OR "BIG JC", AND ALL DONE WITH A SLICK SENSE OF HUMOUR. HOW ELSE COULD YOU EXPLAIN THE SONG "NO SPITTIN ON THE BUS"? IF ANYONE EVER FIGURES OUT WHAT "DOWN IN THE BUNKER" REALLY MEANS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. IN THE MEANTIME, PLAY THIS LOUD AND ENJOY. STEVE'S ONE COOL DUDE, AND THIS IS HIS BEST!

Album Description
"It's impossible to do this record justice in a review, it should just be heard. I've never heard of these two guys and here is a really great record of experimental ambient, falling somewhere near Mandible Chatter, Final and Ruhr Hunter. It just goes to show that Ground Fault, the label here, is really only interested in putting out the best sounds they can find. The first piece, 'Swinging London', is a fearless nineteen minutes of elegant changes from panoramic dream-textures and anthemic ambient to building washes of sonic strength and exhuberant release. Guitar sheers off the edges, makes coiled nests inside of a thick wall of drone, certainly vertical sounding, high, climbing, towering into the clouds. But you're there, flying up the grand sides, never finding the end, waves of golden sound crashing over you, the eventual end not as important as your movement along this perfect monolith. In stark contrast, the second five-minute track, 'Hydrofoil', is a coy! , introspective groaning chamber, periodic pings of chord trilling in the darkness, winds moving through the center. I could go on, describing each track like this, but then we'd have a ridiculously long review here. These guys use all the right tools for the job: guitar, autoharp, electric bass, drones, loops, turning out a very precise, unavoidable vision of sonic beauty. Excellent. Can't recommend this too much. " - Manifold Records
"The duo tends to generate a drone of sorts, often propelled by an amorphously throbbing bass (that, on "a knot in the wind", reminded me a lot of Pink Floyd's "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun") over which Cline rips piercing lines that, even as they merge with the general ambience, sometimes betray a whiff of fusion pyrotechnics. The pieces are pleasant without having much to chew on or think about. The closing track, "only peace", broods attractively with an in and out respiratory feeling." Biran Olewnik - Bagatellen
Guitarist NELS CLINE and bassist DEVIN SARNO have been playing together for almost 10 years, and this is their first multitrack recording (their past collaborations have been live). With a focus on improvisation and texture, Buried on Bunker Hill rumbles thick, low and foggy, as Cline's detuned and bent guitar mechanics gravitate, distort, meander and hover. For fans of Labradford, Flying Saucer Attack, and the like. Easily the best recording by a duo with chemistry to burn.

When Cicadas Attack Elephants.......2004-12-09
This is Nels Cline on electric guitar and Devin Sarno on bass, though you'll rarely feel like you heard a bass anywhere. He seems to usually be soundscapely effected most of the time so that he can let subtle walls of sound float out, rather than, say, a Phil Leshian-style of thunderous carpet-bombing.
I never did pick up the other disc by these two, so I cannot compare/contrast. I can say that this disc took me quite a while to get into. I bought it in early 2004 and did not come to really appreciate it until this past month. Word of Advice: Don't listen to this disc in headphones. All the previous times I listened to it were in headphones, until about a month ago. For whatever reasons, this disc is much better when reverberating out into the open air.
The reason I give this disc 3 stars is because Nels has been a part of many fantastic releases. If you (like me) are of the mindset that Interstellar Space Revisited, Destroy All Nels Cline, Live At Easthampton Town Hall, The Inkling, Red Headed Stranger, Scarnella, etc... are Nels' 5 and 4 star discs (however you personally rank them), then for me, this one just has to be a 3 because while not a bad release, it is by no means deserving to stand proudly next to those I listed above.
Tracks 1 and 3 are the standouts here. Track one is a subtle drone that ends up painting a picture of standing outside during sunrise about a mile away from an interstate. You know that societal hum that you hear from the constancy of cars and tires... the way a certain soft, screaming echo-hum just sorta dissolves out into the air within a couple miles of an interstate? Well, add that in with some sort of sadness as the sun rises after a bad night. Then add some semi-subdued, space-fuzz Nels wrapped around it and there you go.
Two might make a nice piece of music to have blurping out of your house on Halloween... it's short but it will put a little creepyness into the kids' night.
Track 3 is where the title for this review came from. It's not always as violent sounding as that though, as it builds out of another textural drone.
The Morals of the Story: Remember, blasting out of the stereo, no headphones. If you're just discovering Nels, this should not be your first disc. You need something that will really scorch your consciousness with solar-flare intensity, and this is not that. But if you're a longtime Nels fan then I know you are curious and I know you want to hear this for yourself so you're just going to buy it anyway. =)
Oh one more thing, after finally having listened to this without headphones and truly hearing it lately, I would recommened it above The Giant Pin, so far. Sadly, the Pin release has not lived up to my hopes and expectations... or at least not yet. We shall see.
