I bought this CD to play at work for background music and it's great for that. The only thing missing is the usually obligatory 20th Century Fox theme before the main Star Wars theme. Other than that, the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus do a very fine job with Maestro Williams' music, indeed.

The Star Wars cycle, George Lucas's stellar pop parable cum merchandising blitzkrieg, has long since made history as an unparalleled cinematic-cultural-marketing phenomena; somewhere Billy Jack should be in one envious, ass-kickin' mood. Phantom Menace, easily the most eagerly anticipated film of the '90s, returns to the saga's roots and allows Lucas to flesh out the history of some of the fable's core characters and conjure up a dazzling new cast of cohorts, antagonists, and alien realms for them to interact with and in. Thus, all composer John Williams had to do was essentially reinvent the world's most popular wheel. The film-scoring legend has admirably risen to that daunting challenge, delivering an inventive score whose dynamics should surprise and delight even the most ardent SW fanatic. The Main Title and a few oh-so-sparing bars of a familiar Jedi theme are all that remains from the original trilogy's lexicon, Williams having evolved the saga's musical language, stylistic reach, and orchestral palette with masterful subtlety. The composer's most ambitious surprise is the welcome addition of strong choral elements, which he uses in ways both majestic ("Duel of the Fates") and menacing ("Passage Through the Planet's Core"). And though the film revolves around a young boy (Anakin Skywalker, who will grow to be both corrupted and redeemed as Darth Vader), the only flirtation with cloying sentimentality comes with the innocently loping "Jar Jar's Introduction." In the tradition of the Cantina and Max Rebo's Band of the previous trilogy, Williams and Lucas close out this musical installment with "Augie's Municipal Band," a Carnivale-esque romp that segues grandly into the composer's swelling title music. Williams may be the master of a grand scoring tradition, but Phantom Menace is gratifying evidence that he seldom plays it safe--even when the Force is with him. --Jerry McCulley

In my opinion this one ranks 3rd after A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. It is truely a masterful work. It contains some of John Williams best compositions of his later life. A must for any music fan.

Probably the greatest living contemporary American composer, John Williams brings life and emotion to all movie soundtracks. I believe George Lucas animates Williams' scores, instead of the other way around; otherwise, Star Wars would just be another science fiction series.

If you are a Star Wars fan, you really do need to have this in your collection. If you're not, well, I'd buy this mainly for Duel of the Fates and Anakin's Theme. There are a few tracks that kind of drag, but you can skip them. Still, compared to the cookie-cutter compositions for the average movie (not Star Wars, mind you) this is of superlative quality. Compared to the other Star Wars music, the overall CD falls somewhat short of Star Wars greatness. But I like it. It's not one of my favorites, but it's not like it's a disappointment. I would recommend it.

"Duel of the Fates"! There are a few tedious tracks, such as "Passage Through the Planet Core", but these are easily skipped. "Anakin's Theme" was sadly not explored in later movies, as it is a wonderful foreshadowing of what Anakin is to become (see the end of the phrase, which is a callback to "The Imperial March"). "Jar Jar's Theme" is, well, appropriate. It is also the kind of theme that makes me hang my head in shame for playing an oboe. But where this score surpasses expectation is in the fight music. Much different from the original 'Star Wars' trilogy, Williams has found a formula for cohesive battle music. It makes sense, it builds, and it's damn exciting--my favourite is "The Flag Parade". The other highlight from the score apart from "Duel of the Fates", which I really needn't say any more about, is "The Droid Invasion", a theme that is repeated and developed in later movies (it becomes "The Arena", in 'Episode II').

I was very into theatre in high school and college and thought I was up on most musicals, but had never heard of this show until recently. It's comprised of three short stories which were adapted into the musical format. The first two stories are tied together very well, although the last seems tacked on. But the songs are catchy and it's fairly easy to figure out what's happening simply by listening to the songs. There are two songs which are tied for my favoritism: "It's a Fish" from Adam and Eve and "You Are Not Real" from Passionella. Check it out.

IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WENT TO THE REVIVAL OF THE APPLE TREE ON BROADWAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOVED THE SCORE BUT THERE WASN'T A SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE SO I PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL VERSION AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

I saw this show on the stage when it first ran, and have never forgotten it. The key to a good Broadway show is this question: Are you humming the songs when you leave the theatre? In the case of The Apple Tree, the answer is a resounding "Yes." I have been waiting 40 years for this show to be revived, and I have tickets for the revival opening in December at the Roundabout. I hope not to be disappointed, for the trio of Barbara Harris, a very young Alan Alda, and the late Larry Blyden were terrific. The three-part concept can be jarring because just when you're getting into the story, it ends -- but just enjoy the kind of songs they just don't write anymore.

SO this is another show thats actually three one acts. The first "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is the best by far. It has really cute songs and nice plot. Thats the only reason I rounded this up from 2.5 to 3 stars. The rest of the show is nothing great. "Lady and Tiger" is short and boring. And "Passionella" is exactly what it sounds like, a knock off of Cinderella. But hey, its a good show for collectors and "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is nice. Favorite Song: "Its A Fish"

According to some reviews, this musical was supposed to be very good and I bought it. Unfortunately, I was quite dissapointed. It's composed of three different tales, the first one referring to the Adam & Eve biblical story. The lyrics here are very silly and tedious. The second tale, "The Lady or the Tiger?" contains songs that are simply awful, probably the worst ever written for a Broadway show. The third story, "Passionella", contains music that does nothing to make things better. The album contains a good informative booklet in English, German, French & Italian (as Sony uses to do)which says that Time magazine defined this show as "three moldy figs". I entirely agree. I would recommend this musical to those suffering from insomnia: it will put them to sleep right away.

I will be writing a review on the legendary album entitled "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK BY MECO" by one of Rock's most talented artists ever. I give you M-E-C-O! "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" was originally released in 1977 on Vinyl/LP and Cassette on the Mercury Records label in association with PolyGram Records Inc. and Hip-O Records which is distributed by Universal Music & Video Distribution, Inc. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.

As we all well know, THE BEE GEES would forever change the Rock n' Roll world by revolutionizing the Disco craze of the 1970's with the Disco music soundtrack to the legendary 1977 movie "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER." Also in 1977, "STAR WARS," the very first original movie would appear on the theater movie screen and forever change the entire movie industry in special effects and how movie soundtracks would forever play a part in the movie itself. However, the artist I'm about to review for you now had many other different ideas in mind as to how the 1977 "STAR WARS" soundtrack would be presented and brought into the 70's world and age of the Disco movement. Meco would go ito the recording studio and record perhaps, one of the greatest special effects Disco albums in Disco's entire history. As time went by, Meco would emerge and come out of the recording studio with the completely finished acetate and deliver the finished product to their record label and employer, Mercury Records. Mercury Records would release the finished product as the legendary "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALATIC FUNK" album in 1977. In my opinion, other than THE BEE GEES, the "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" album would truly symbolize what the true spirit of Disco music was really about.

It is now time to let the music of MECO to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking. The "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" album from 1977 begins with the near 16:00 and original long version of the most breathtaking and blistering orchestrated music and special effects combined, recorded and mixed in with the special blend Disco sound, "Star Wars," the soulful funkish "Other Galactic Funk," the 7" edit version "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" and the 12" Disco mix "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band." May I also add that you have to listen to this album to believe it.

Overall, this is one hell of an album worth checking out and seeking further research and information into especially if you are a hardcore diehard MECO fan or a devout music collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners that are not quite familiar with the Disco sound and music of MECO or what the whole Disco craze of the 1970's was all about, I would highly suggest in purchasing the "SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" soundtrack along with this album. However, there are many other MECO compilation albums that you might want to research further into before you make your decision as to which MECO album is right for your musical needs and tastes. Either way you choose, you will have taken a giant step in owning and starting your very own Disco music collection. You can do all of your researching and album purchases either on Amazon com or your nearest local Borders Books and Music store. If you ever get a chance, purchase this album. You'll be happy and satisfied that you did.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal Disco music collection. This album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great legendary album that no hardcore music fan or devout music collector would want to be without.

In closing, Mercury Records would release the MECO "STAR WARS AND OTHER GALACTIC FUNK" album to highly critically acclaim in 1977. MECO would continue on with recording other great Disco music soundtracks such as "SUPERMAN" and other "STAR WARS" soundtracks that were still yet to come. The importance and contribution that MECO will have made to Disco music as well as music in general, is the further advancement in special effects in the recording technology process. With this in mind, MECO will forever leave their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. So here's to you MECO. In solidarity with the others here I am thrilled to find this on cd at Aamazan after missing my 2 (count em 2) lps of this I went thru. And the marching band of Other Galactic Funk is still one of the great anomalies of disco.

I must admit, I do agree with some reviewers who think it a "bit much". I once had the original album on disco vinyl, and remember playing it. Now that I am recollecting some light-hearted music of the past, I find that I am totally satisfied with the 7:35 DJ promo-only 12" version track provided on cd compilation "The Casablanca Records Story".
For those looking for alternative Star Wars disco, look no further than the Boris Midney Anthology, for a latin style "hoppin" beat.
By the way, you can see the Meco album cover quickly towards the end of "Thank God It's Friday" when DJ of Zoo Disco putting his albums away, humming "last dance."

Another classic reissue from Superfecta Recordings. Not only are the original 11-tracks from LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH presented in their remastered glory, but 4 bonus tracks (also remastered) have been added to the mix: The extended versions of "Postcards From Paradise" and "Siamese Twist," as well as their respective B-Sides, "I'm Not Like Everybody Else" and "Dumbest Thing." The bonus tracks have never before appeared on CD.

Nick Marsh, Flesh's lead singer, has supplied a slew of classic photos and memorabilia that are reproduced for the package and he even penned the liner notes. The booklet also includes the original lyrics.

On top of all that, this CD features just about the biggest alternative hit from 1987, "I Go Crazy," first heard in John Hughes' motion picture, Some Kind of Wonderful.

I wore this thing out when I was in college. I have been waiting for it, among other Flesh re-releases. Finally, we are starting to see them. Here is hoping there are more on the way. The beauty of Flesh for Lulu is that they made creative songs with hooks. You do not have to strain to "get" the songs, they are good at first listen and stay good.

It was my brother that turned me on to it. I had this brand new on cassette tape and wore it out. I was glad that it was placed on CD. I have burnt it MP3 and I have it on my iPod. The songs on this album are all upbeat and fun. I especially like "Lucky Day," "Hammer of Love," "Siamese Twist," & "I Go Crazy." Great 80s music.

Okay, wow! I have been waiting YEARS for this to be reissued. This has got to be one of the BEST albums from the '80s!! "Postcards From Paradise" was the soundtrack to my senior year of high school. Even the lesser known songs "Sleeping Dogs", "Crash" and "Lucky Day" are amazing! And the bonus tracks *bows to Superfecta* I'm just amazed I actually have this.

This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?

Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.

Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).

Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".

It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.

But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.

It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!

Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.

However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.

However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.

Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

Granddaddy of the Hollywood studios, Paramount Pictures is rightfully proud of its century of contributions to both American cinema and the art of film scoring. But the first disc of this 43-track double-CD anthology merely hints at the studio's musical peaks, blithely skipping through its first seven decades in just 17 tracks. Indeed, the package as a whole seems more interested in marketing its post-'70s catalog of hits and blockbusters than it does in paying real homage to history and roots. Even rarities like Double Indemnity and The Lost Weekend are served up via modern budget-line rerecordings, as is Ennio Morricone's epochal Once upon a Time in the West). Contemporary recordings of Aaron Copland's rare score to The Heiress and Franz Waxman's great Sunset Blvd. fare better, but soundtrack fans may miss the originals. The studio's rich pop-crossover successes in the '60s are documented via Breakfast at Tiffany's "Moon River" and excerpts from Romeo and Juliet and Love Story, while successful franchises like Star Trek and Raiders also get their due. Too often the '90s-focused second disc only underscores some uncomfortable trends in contemporary scoring--orchestral nervous tics punctuated by booming crescendos, treacly piano Muzak--and makes one wonder if the music of The Rugrats Movie and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider are really film music milestones. --Jerry McCulley

Normally I have a lot to say in my reviews, but not this time. The main problem with this collection is that all the most memorable film scores are just on one disc, with the second used mostly to play out stuff from the last ten years that, really, musically isn't very memorable and only includes three pieces anyone will recognize just because, like the movies they come from, they're based on old TV shows - The Addams Family, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible.

And that brings up another problem. With all due respect to the late Jerry Goldsmith, who has provided some truly great classic movie scores, was it REALLY necessary to include TWO versions of the SAME Star Trek march in this collection? This seems evocative of the milk-it-for-all-its-worth attitude Paramount has had lately toward its now-tarnished crown-jewel franchise. Where's James Horner's theme music from Star Trek II and III? If they're gonna put Star Trek on here twice, they should have provided a little diversity. It wouldn't have taken much, I'm sure.

I'm sure that Paramount's had other films with far more memorable music (even Harold Faltermeyer's Top Gun Anthem could have helped on Disc 2). This just seems like a lazy attempt at something that really could have been great.

There are some really great songs on this 2 CD set. However, those really great songs seem to be lightly interspersed amongst a large number of forgettable songs whose main purpose seems to be to remind you of those movies you enjoy(ed) so much.

It seems a little odd to me that out of 90 years of film making the most memorable scores have been largely released within the last few years. I was pleased to find themes from the Godfather, Indiana Jones and Witness. I was perplexed with the inclusion of songs from Rugrats, both Mission Impossible movies (one would have been more than enough) and Tomb Raider (memorable???).

This is my own personal bias, but I do prefer movie soundtracks that evoke a feeling of excitement. With this collection I just couldn't get excited. I kept finding myself being let down by songs that didn't in some way complement the preceeding song.

There are certainly some great tracks here, but overall I was disappointed. My advise would be to look elsewhere.

This one was a pleasant surprise! I thought- how could any CD that had "Baby Elephant Walk" be all that good? This one is. Lots of great scores- classics and a few hidden treasures. After hearing the beautiful title score for "Children of a Lesser God", I had to buy the entire soundtrack - very soothing. There are a few that may seem too overplayed ("Love Story", "Raiders of the Lost Ark",), but most are a welcome addition to any compilation. Try NOT loving "Building the Barn" from "Witness" or the "Hymn to the Fallen" from "Saving Private Ryan". Hours of great listening.

This is a great album concept, but I really wish Paramount had re-recorded these scores as they deserve to be heard. The tracks range from 1944 to the present, and the older recordings sound just like the cleaned-up older recordings that they are.

I would also personally have enjoyed more "secondary" music themes (otherwise it becomes like reading book summaries that always only quote the opening paragraph), and I could easily have done without the "pop" tunes (like Baby Elephant Walk and the Rugrats theme). In fact, it would have been very nice to listen to an album comprised of tracks chosen for their strong musical value rather than apparently for their box office and/or hit song popularity. But, to be fair, that may be precisely what draws some people to this CD set.

Film score music constitutes the single most significant body of classical music of our time. I hope some of these tracks will entice listeners to buy entire soundtracks and listen to some of these works as a whole.

It has been said before -- if you want the best all on one CD, then this is the best sampler to get.

Conducted by the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, there shines through an obvious love of the material being played. These are among the best versions I've ever heard of these songs and the production quality is first rate.

My only slight niggle would be that at times, the horn section seem to come through a little too strong, but that might just be my tastes and my sound system. And it is not enough to keep me from giving it 5 stars. All the best from 3 of the best movie soundtracks in the past 30 years.

This is a great representation of the excellent music Williams wrote for the original trilogy. Many of these tracks are completely fantastic. There are a couple of tracks that I wouldn't have added to this compilation in favor of adding others (the sand people track is pretty boring) and the cantina music ends with some really weird sounding synth effects or something, but the rest of the album is great. I'd give it 4 1/2 if I could.

Lo primero que llama la atencion es la orquesta, es un conjunto selecto de interpretes de Los angeles, San francisco y otros que reunidos forman esta Skywalker Symphony Orchestra que instalada en el rancho de george lucas se dio la tarea de registrar este conjunto de temas de Star Wars.
Y el resultado es esplendido hay que decirlo, el sonido es excelente, existe gran fiato y la orquesta suena grandiosa.
La seleccion esta bien hecha, como es una grabacion de 1991 se obto por recordar lo mejor y grandes momentos, asi no podia dejarse de lado la musica de la cantina una pieza exquicita que se le agrego algunos toques con sintetizadores y suena increible. Esta parades of Ewoks y little people que son muy entretenidas llenas de un encanto casi infantil, nada que comentar respecto de los temas inolvidables de la princesa Leia, de Yoda y el de Luke y Leia, hermosos, la cautivante marcha imperial y la apoteosis de la batalla en los bosques de Endor. Ademas la voragine de campo de asteroides y here they come!, y el exquisito solo de tuba en Jabba the hutt. Para finalizar el principio y el fin, el tema principal es sin lugar a dudas una pieza que no podra ser igualada, increible, y para finalizar throne room en una presentacion incomparable.
Es un CD grandioso, que hace Williams mejor director junto aun grupo grandioso de interpretes para una seleccion sin igual.

The Star Wars Trilogy: John Williams Conducts John Williams is a 13-track "sampler" of selected orchestral arrangements from the 1977-83 "Classic" Episodes of George Lucas' space opera set "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." Not to be confused with either the Varese Sarabande 1983 recording with a similar title, this 1990 Sony Classical offering showcases the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the composer.

While none of the material here is surprising - we HAVE heard all these themes before in the London Symphony Orchestra-performed original soundtracks in their various incarnations - the Skywalker Symphony (a group of talented musicians assembled especially for this performance) performs Williams' concert hall arrangements with clarity and love for the material. There was also an attempt to add more variety to the 13 tracks to further avoid confusion with the other "Star Wars Trilogy" single CD collection. The Cantina Band (that jazzy Benny Goodman style bauble from Star Wars) and the bouncy The Little People are here, as well as the more "traditional" Main Title, Princess Leia's Theme, Yoda's Theme, and the famous Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme). Particularly impressive is the concert hall arrangement of The Throne Room/Finale, which is very different from the film version.

While I prefer the individual film scores from either the Soundtrack Anthology or the Special Edition collections, for listeners on the go, younger music lovers, or newcomers to John Williams' music, The Star Wars Trilogy: John Williams Conducts John Williams is still worth a listen.

That's right. When it ends, you just want more, and more.

I gave it a 4 stars rating, only because of this. I have all the music from Star Wars, and definitely I think it's a crime to make a compilation from such a terrific soundtrack. You MUST have the entire score.

However, if you can only get this one (as it was my case around 10 years ago), it is an excellent example. For a limited space, I would have chosen the same themes.

As someone who works from home, this is a wonderful collection to put on during the day. The beautiful arrangements of some of film's most memorable music is a treat to listen to day in and day out. I was one of those looking for music from the "Cousins" soundtrack. I'm so much happier to have found this CD with more great music than I could've bargained for. I'm very glad to have this in my collection!

I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE SOUNDTRACK OF COUSINS... I KNOW BUT HEY I LOVED THE MOVIE AND WHEN I REALIZE THAT THE SOUNDTRACK WAS BEEN ASK $120 I JUST WENT NUTS LOL LOL BUT I WENT ON MY SEARCH AND FOUND THIS GREAT GREAT GREAT CD, THAT HAS THE SONGS I WAS SEARCHING FOR AND MORE.

FOR EXAMPLE, CAVATINA FROM THE DEER HUNTER, HMM GREAT MOVIE AND GREAT SONG. AND LETS NOT FORGET THE WAY WE WERE, COME ON THAT IS A CLASSIC. AND ITS HAS THE THEME FROM THE MOVIE ON GOLDEN POND, ALSO UNCHAINED MELODY FROM THE MOVIE GHOST.

BUT WHAT TOOK MY OFF MY SIT WAS THE SONG *WE ARE LOOSING HIM, FROM THE MOVIE SOMEWHERE IN TIME. LOOK THIS IS A GREAT CD, AND IT IS WORTH ALL.

I HAVE ALL THE SONGS I EVER WANTED AND MORE. BELIEVE ME YOU ME, IT IS A GREAT BARGAIN. WONT BE DISSAPOINTED.

Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. FIVE STAR FOR MUSIC. 1 STAR FOR AUDIO. Ok I've wanted this recording for almost 4 years. Now I got it. I am a discerning listener. This soundtrack is not the best quality. Tape hiss is very pronounced. You can tell it's taken directly from a cassette recording. I have other digital recordings of this music. They are miles ahead of this cd. Soundtrack is on the Rhino label. What? Rhino is not known for high fidelity. So it is very deceiving for one to buy a cd thinking it's John Williams conducting on a new recording in 1998 or whenever. It's the actual 1978 recording. Now let me unleash my rage. This thing sounds as if it's recorded with a single microphone in a bathroom, at a truck stop. Yes the music is phenomenal. My favorite track is #2 Krypton. I was hoping to discover some new hidden melodies that I've never heard in previous recording (original 1978). Nope. This IS the 1978 recording. So I will be getting the Debney recording just so I can hear what I'm missing. Love the music. Just can't hear it. ALL OF IT! But cool booklet. I can't listen to a booklet. But I got it. Whoopee.

After over a year of trying to find a seller of this fine soundtrack, I finally found it! It is high time that the full score was released on CD.
The original soundtrack release from 1978, while still an excellent collection, was sadly lacking in several of the best cues from the film. Most important of these was Track 12 (Disc 1) in which the helicopter crashes on the Daily Planet's roof and dangles precariously above the street. Williams builds on it, introducing Superman's theme into it as Clark Kent runs across the street, then rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' - the symbol of the House of El - then enters the revolving door & exits as Superman. At the end of this is one of my favorite cues; the Superman theme is played as the Man of Steel appears above Metropolis, flying over the city on the hunt for criminals. 'Crime of the Century' (Track 6, Disc 2) was one of my favorite cues; this one portrayed the missile convoy as it made its way along the freeway, where Luthor staged the accident to get his cronies close enough to sabotage the missiles. There are too many new tracks to list here that should have been included the first time around, just a lack of space precluded this from happening.

I have the previous edition, and the notes that came with it were nestled next to the CD in a thick booklet (with a cover of Reeve in front of an American flag) that was large enough for the slipcase cover, but too big to fit into the CD case front. Otherwise, the one-sheet cover that came with your soundtrack is identical to the slipcase version.
