Although this CD has an interesting lineup of songs, I found the versions of the songs bland and uninspiring. The recording is thin sounding and lacks the rich full sound that makes the steel drums a wonderful instrument.

Ocean breezes and steel drum music absolutely make my Caribbean vacations, so I was thrilled to find this album to I could bring a taste of the tropics to my own backyard.

I was so disappointed when I received this album...the sound of the steel drums are completely ruined by the addition of one of those old organs everybody's goofy uncle had in the 60s and 70s. You know the ones...they let you put a samba, bossa nova or fox trot beat over every Billy Joel song you tried to play.

It's a shame, because it is a nice selection of songs, but it turns the beautiful tropical music into a kitschy tiki lounge experience instead.

Bought this CD for a Caribbean themed party I was hosting. The music is great if you want to put everyone to sleep! Its like that background music you hear in the elevator! It wasnt as lively as I was looking for! So if you like it soft and mello... then this is for you! If you want lively...try a different one!

If I could give this C.D. 10 stars - I would! This is our favorite summer pool party music. Every track is fabulous! We even play this when it's just the family having hamburgers on the deck. It transports you to a breezy caribbean island with swaying palm trees. Okay, so it's just in your head, but man, this is a fun C.D.

I used this to do an African dance workout & everyone asked me for the music. It takes you to another place, and every song is different and wonderful in its own way. Mickey Hart definitely deserved a Grammy for this one!

This album is cool, but if you don't try to get in and create a mood for it you won't get it. Dim the lights, read the song titles and imagine you're right there with the natives, you'll dig it.

This is the first CD of all percussion I have ever bought, and it'll prolly be my last. An album of all percussion is, frankly, pretty boring. Much more interesting to hear percussion-heavy *music* such as, say, Peter Gabriel. "The Hunt" and "The Dancing Sorcerer" are ok, but even at its best, this album is background noise.

All I can say is awesome album! Goes well with the previous effort "At The Edge".

Mickey gathers up percussion players from all over the world to create a mass drum/percussive ensemble with pieces that will go to your soul.

Great headphone album. Sit back and let Mickey & Co. take you on a percussive trip around the world.

Planet Drum is the way to go if you're looking for some good Mickey Hart.

In this concept album, Hart brings great drummers from around the world to participate. The result is wholly new works that are without question novel, but this record has not fared well in my collection since I bought it four years ago. I find myself choosing traditional Brazilian or Latin American or Indian or Middle Eastern performances rather than Planet Drum. I would especially warn potential buyers that Planet Drum is not a survey of percussion styles that will help you decide what you do and do not like. It is instead outside all the mainstream styles and I would consider it the kind of album that would augment a percussion collection rather than start one.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

I love love love this compilation of Caribbean music! I grew up listening to this in my parents' car, and I know all the lyrics to each song by heart. The music is so fun to listen to, and it's always upbeat. So many memories with this cd...

This was expected to be 2 CDs of Steel Drums.
Instead, one of the CDs has no steel drums, just some stuff I was not interested about.

I'm very disappointed, thinking this was their way of getting rid of an unwanted CD, by packaging with something more interesting.

This cover band does a great job with some old Caribbean classics! I enjoy the songs "River of Babylon" and "One Love". The steel band version of Guantanamera is terrific... but my all time favorite is cut #6 "Barbados"!!! It starts with the pilot from Coconut airways and the sound of a plane taking off! It's alot of fun and worth buying for that song alone... this CD is definately worth it!

What you need to do is have a candlelit bath with this music playing (with a cd player that is at a safe distance from the water!). The second disc of this set is PERFECT for this! It is paradise!!!

This is a very nice CD when I put it in to play my whole house relaxed and clamed down and just listened very nice. The drumming is fantatsic, but if you do not like native american flutes not a CD for you in some parts of the CD the flutes are very loud. But I really enjoy this CD.

I really enjoy both CD's Sacred Spirit Drums and Drum Medicine. I live in an area of very little resource for this type of purchase- I was very happy to find what I wanted online- also very glad to be able to listen before I purchased- would not have bought them without that. Service was the best- shipping was also very good.. I will consider this type of purchase again when needed.

You have to listen to this CD to believe it. I hear the Native American flute, drums .... it's one incredible CD. I bought it to learn to drum but enjoy listening to it just for relaxation, trance states, etc. This is superb!

This was one of three steel drum CD's purchased recently, and was the best of all. Great sounds...clear with good acoustics. Sounds really mellow coming from the speakers in our back yard paradise. Very authentic Caribbean sound. Just what we were looking for to give our outdoor entertaining a fun atmosphere.

I'm on my second copy of this cd... it is still my favorite of any steelpan cd I have. It strikes just the right balance between fun and relaxing, and it makes the time between cruises go by much faster. :-)

Call it an aggregation of some of the best contemporary percussionists: Trilok Gurtu, Zakir Hussain, and Asian Underground star Talvin Singh combine under the sonic washes of producer Bill Laswell to show the possibilities of Indian percussion. It's definitely a beatfest, but one of subtlety, where what is being said isn't as important as the way it's being stated, and the dialogue between hands includes a lot of silences. Gurtu comes from a more jazz tradition, Hussein a classical background, and Singh represents the brash young things of the dance floor. Mostly Laswell leaves it to them to provide the sonic entertainment, which is as it should be with delicate swathes of sound barely intruding, just coloring the proceedings. While it's not for everyone, those who love Indian percussion in all its forms will find this album a complete joy. --Chris Nickson

It's interesting how the negative reviewer below can speak of "delving" into so many styles of music, yet evidently came into this album with a pre-conceived notion of what it should be. This album makes no claim or attempt to be "classical" Indian music, except for maybe the last track. This album IS a fresh collaboration among some of the world's most talented performers (Indian and otherwise) that had my jaw firmly planted on the ground from the moment I hit "play". Hearing traditional Indian instrumentation combined with western production proved to me that nirvana or a great album of any style can only be obtained with an open mind. Absolutely amazing. 10 stars...

I'd been a fan of Bill Laswell and Talvin Singh before, but this album introduced me to Tabla and the skill of Zakir Hussain. Years later, I own more classical tabla albums from Hussain and others, but I still come back to this one. I love it so much I started playing tabla this year.

Favorite tracks: "Palmistry" and "Alla."

I really don't want to be mean, but I find this album very shallow. Classical Indian music is a very complex, subtle and beautiful thing. Comibining it in this way may help to get these wonderful tabla players to a wider audience, but the true energy has been tainted and lowered to make it palatable to simple-minded people who need westernized electronic and wishy-washy "world music" cliches. I don't find this music to be uplifting or enlightening or interesting. And this is not coming from a strict old fundamentalist of anything, I have delved deep into the avante guard, minimalism, "new music", eastern and western music theory, microtonal, etc. I would recomend jsut being a non-westernized album and getting the full benefit of tabla playing. However if your mainstay is jungle/drum&bass, then this would be a step up for you, so go for it, it is worth the pruchase in that case.

mr laswell has done many things,but this was quite a suprise!it consists of both chilled and upbeat tala(a middle eastern hand drum)drumming mixed with laz's trademark electronica that gradually fades in and out of the songs.it's a real trip-an-a-half for anyone not ignorant enough to dismiss it as "boring".

Everybody's favorite precocious sprite of a soprano comes out with her third album in Dream a Dream. It's only been two years since Charlotte Church's smash debut, Voice of an Angel, but that's a big chunk of the Welsh singer's life span so far. This latest is basically a Christmas album, so full of festive cheer you'd never guess it was recorded in the summer. Even the glummest of moods will disappear when you hear Charlotte's infectious take on chestnuts such as "Winter Wonderland" and "Little Drummer Boy" (and having the London Symphony Orchestra as your backup band doesn't hurt either). You know charlotte church has received so much harsh critismn about her,I find that people were jeolous of her voice, and of how a young girl can sing, she is definetly my dream ome true, (So back off johnathan flanders),this girl in the past has done some wonderful music which is inspirational and she is a wonderful person, I dont care whether she has changed, anyway her rock albumn has given me a lease on life and has given me potential in my singing,I love your voice very much, and this reviewer hasnt been written by a kid at all,if charlotte church is reading this,good on yeah girl,you definetly my dream come true,and I hope I will see you one day. your best friend JJCox

this cd is pure magic...almost 20 great christmas songs on one cd sung by the voice of an angel herself..there may be a few mixed reviews by some people who must be opera voice teachers because there is nothing wrong with this cd...it is flawless....charlotte's soaring vocals, the beautiful orchestra and background singers, the whole cd has the christmas feel to it..."o come all ye faithfull" has to be heard to be believed...it is breathtaking...i love charlottes take on "winter wonderland" and "ding dong merrily on high" ..made me want to go dance in the snow or something.....she hits every note beautifully..buy this cd...i bought it back in 2000 and have listened to it at every Christmastime since or Christmas doesnt feel the same.

Charlotte Church has done it again! She is extremely talented. Even if she was 25 when she put this out, she'd be amazing. But she was only 14-15 years old when she recorded this! Beautiful. This album has great choral accompaniments and fabulous orchestra arrangements. It is a little on the high side in certain songs, but it still sounds amazing. I love her voice.

Although I love the CDs, I was disappointed that there were only about half of the songs I thought there would be. I bought the original double cassette set back in the early 90's and when I found the CDs with the same name and cover, I thought I was getting the same thing only on CD. But the Cassettes had twice as many songs, including Let it Snow,Have Yourself a merry Little Christmas,The First Noel, Jingle Bells by Jim Reeves, The Christmas song by the Carpenters and so many others!!

This is a good, basic collection of Christmas Music. As a general rule, Time-Life has selected what is probably the definative artist/arangement of each song.

My only complaints are that there are only 24 songs on two disks and one or two of them are not ones that I would have picked (not my style).

Overall, it's a good set that I would recommend to anyone who wants to start a collection.
