4 out of 5 stars Brilliant........2005-07-12

One of the best Canadian artists I've heard. He has a beautiful voice & a strong talent for song writing. My favorite tracks off the CD are Beautifully Undone (both orginal & remix), After All The Rain Falls, and Look At The Way The Wild Wind Blows. Beautifully Undone is one of the best songs of 2004/2005. Even if you don't want to spend the current price ($26 for 12 tracks!!), that's no reason not to listen to this CD. You can stream the entire CD on his website [...] for free.

5 out of 5 stars Overwhelmed.......2005-04-25

One of the most powerful, beautiful CDs I've ever heard. Some of the songs bring me to tears ...Others are so overwhelming
I simply don't know what to do with myself. Lindy is a musical genius. His melodies, lyrics... everything is brilliant!

5 out of 5 stars amazing sound and gripping lyrics.......2005-03-05

This entire album is amazing! Every song has a little different style and emotional feel to it. It is very versitile and definetly a cd you can pop in and want to listen to the whole way through! Seeing Lindy in concert heightened my experience even more! I ventured from Seattle up to canada to see it and am so happpy I did! He's an amazing show to see....what a talent!!! This cd is a must for all good music collections!

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING.......2004-11-10

I love this CD. It is very rare that you can get a CD and listen all the way through it without skipping any song. I like every song on this CD and seldom find myself skipping one. The songs are beautiful and calming. It's a great CD to just lie down and listen to when you want to relax. Lindy has written spellbinding lyrics and magical melodies. This CD is by far one of the best I have ever heard. I love the songs "Beautifully Undone" and "On My Mind" whenever they come on I can't help but sing a long. BUY THIS CD!

5 out of 5 stars Let's give him some more airplay!.......2004-07-24

I purchased "Suspension of Disbelief" not more than ten minutes ago... and it was a decision that wasn't difficult after hearing him perform live for about an hour. I got off the subway tonight at Dundas Square in Toronto and, while walking up the street, I was so completely gripped by the singing coming from the square, that I abandoned my rush home to see what everyone was gathering to watch. It was Lindy... and with each song, I got these incredibly intense chills down my spine. His voice, his vocals, his solo work with the acoustic guitar almost brought me to tears. Bikers, families, people on rollerblades, punks -- more and more people of various circles converged on the square as passers-by were unable to ignore his amazing sound. The only critique I would give... when he performs live, he has a very raw, smokey sound that just heightens the intensity and gives you goosebumps. The CD doesn't reflect as much of that raw, strained sound that hooks you by the heart and stops you in your tracks. If you like the raw, melodic lullaby styles of bands like Coldplay, this is *definitely* a purchase you won't regret... and even if you don't, it's a sound that's impossible NOT to feel when it sinks into the pit of your stomach... like that nervous feeling when you're ascending in a rollercoaster... or the butterflies when you're in love. I spent the entire time standing at the performance, absolutely enamored and hoping I'd be able to find his CD. As luck would have it, they were selling them on the sidelines, so I quickly found an ATM and spent my grocery money on what will surely give me some very relaxing, very mellow nights to come.

4 out of 5 stars don't pass this one up.......2006-07-20

This cd is great, hands down. If you stumble across this release, you know what you're looking for anf i can assure you that this is the one. Alot of big names are on this cd and it ends up being something that you'll listen to for years to come, as i have. Resurection of the Ravens is my personal fav, one of Klayton's best tracks to date.

4 out of 5 stars More Level/COD than original Argyle Park.......2000-06-06

Don't get me wrong.. I like the album, but after reading all the glowing reviews, I was a bit disappointed trying to compare it to the original Argyle Park Misguided album. AP sounds much more like Level, and Klay Scott (Disengage style). I love that stuff too, but the original Argyle Park was more electronic techno, in your face, frenetic, and fun. This is a much more serious album. I miss the Og excerpts, hidden tracks, and "superstyle techno" that was in the original Argyle Park. I'm continuosly listening to the new album though, and it does grow on you. For anyone that enjoys Klay Scott, Level, Klank, etc... this is a must have. You will immediately recognize who wrote what in this album. It could have been a Compilation album. I don't necessarily agree with the Skinny Puppy/NIN references. It sounds a lot more like Fear Factory in the secular side of things.

4 out of 5 stars Melodic Surrealism.......2000-05-22

This album is the product of several creative minds experimenting with the electronic music frontier. It has obvious influence from Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly, and Circle of Dust. It has atmospheric textures of electronic sound flowing over a foundation of melodies. It feels surreal and chaotic, but within the chaos is rhythmic structures in beautiful harmony. It is just as great as Buka's first project, Argyle Park. My only criticism is in it's volume of content. Whereas Argyle Park had 34 total tracks, 16 of which were actually songs; AP2 has 12. The best tracks on Suspesion of Disbelief are Heroin Hate, My Sympathies, Sillouette of Rage, The Pact, and Resurrection of the Ravens.

5 out of 5 stars AP2 Rocks!.......2000-05-11

With this CD, AP2 has released a sort of controlled chaos on the world. And they accomplish it masterfully, thanks to guest appearances from Mark Solomon, Klank, and Joel from Ghoti Hook. My personal faves are My Sympathies, Silhouette of Rage, and Resurrection of the Ravens. It is highly worth your time to listen to this CD!

3 out of 5 stars AP2: Argyle Park 2.......2000-04-28

From the ashes of Argyle Park come AP2 (or Argyle Park 2)! Here, Level and Buka put out twelve brand spanking new tracks. The tracks include collaborations with Klank, Stavesacre frontman Mark Salomon, Ghoti Hook frontman Joel Timothy Bell, and former Circle Of Dust member Klayton. Anyways, this collection of tracks reminds me of Skinny Puppy with a smidgeon of NIN. In other words, you get dark, depressing, chaotic sounds (but nowhere near that of Skinny Puppy) with some heavy guitars. Can't quite label them as "Christian industrial" since there's no mention of God anywhere in their music (but that's doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to them because of that!). Best tracks: "My Sympathies", "The Red Shirt Conspiracy", and "The Resurrection Of The Ravens". By the way, this CD actually deserves 3.5 stars...

FRENCH IMPORT – Davide Balula is a contemporary art meddler. His music bears folk overtones and is based upon melody and singing. He affirms a pop tendency amidst active suspension’s crossbred electronic landscape. “pellicule” is his debut album and it blends pruned melodic folk music to sophisticated electronic parasites, which is an rather unknown implant technique used to combine electronic and folk music. Davide Balula is considered one of the important artists of this genre. Good.

      Album Description

The Travis Larson Band presents Suspension, its second full-length album. Featuring engaging compositions, inspired performances, and rich, clean production, this CD will appeal to anyone who likes their rock and roll with a little depth. Emotional depth. Intellectual depth. Musical depth. From crushing, up-tempo rock to lyrical, solo guitar, this album touches all of those hard-to-reach places.

With Suspension, TLB displays the expansive range that has become its hallmark. The album's opening cut, "934," is an epic journey with jarring unison runs and soaring melodies. The hook-driven "Full Suspension" is perhaps the CD's most accessible song, with almost a pop sensibility. A raw, passionate cover of the classic "Georgia On My Mind" features a guest appearance and extended introduction by Grammy Award-winning bassist Victor Wooten. "Powerdown" is a twisted, schizophrenic groove-fest. Balancing out the album are powerful, melodic ballads ("Return To Zero," "Aftertouch,") all-out double-bass rockers ("Frantic Manic,") and sensitive acoustic tracks-from the haunting and somber "Touch" to the smooth yet technically breathtaking "Times Like These." Consider also the hypnotic, percussion-tinged "Sandusky Trail;" the relentless, odd-metered "Crosstalk;" and the huge, off-balance swagger of "Squeeze & Shake."

Wow, what a gift! Like "Figure Ground" this format of doing solo compositions for short films brings out some real range from Mr. #. You don't so much wonder about the films they play for as to how he can score such movies from under your own skin. It's hard to believe how he keeps developing, how lucky we are.

      5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2004-04-18

I had picked up Burning The Hard City as my first Djam CD. I was disappointed with it. I read that Suspension & Displacement was the Yin to Burning The Hard City's Yang. I took a chance and picked up Suspension & Displacement. It wouldn't call it completely ambient. At least not Brian Eno ambient. I'd call it right brain music. It's well produced with very creative distinct songs.

5 out of 5 stars Best "Ambient" Album of 1991.......2000-01-25

Djam Karet are a Los Angeles progressive rock quartet founded in 1984. Their first two releases, "No Commercial Potential" (1985) and "The Ritual Continues" (1987) were private cassettes of totally improvised music. In 1989, Djam Karet gave us their first proper "composed" release with "Reflections From The Firepool." That album highlighted their two primary influences - Pink Floyd and King Crimson.

But although "Firepool" was a triumph, it was also a little schizophrenic. The savage blasts of "Red" era King Crimson did not sit all that well with the spaced-out ambience of "Wish You Were Here" Pink Floyd. And so in 1991, Djam Karet split the two musical avenues into two complimentary releases: the guitar based, metallic "Burning the Hard City" and the quieter, textured "Suspension and Displacement." Until recently, both these albums were difficult to locate, but with Cuneiform Record's decision to reissue them, many more people have a chance to enjoy this exceptional band. Both "Burning the Hard City" and "Suspension and Displacement" were excellent releases and the latter, in my opinion, was the better of the two.

"Suspension and Displacement" is wholly instrumental and it emphasises the band's Pink Floyd tendencies. But as with "Burning the Hard City" Djam Karet do not settle for simply aping one of their major sources of inspiration. This is no more evident than in the opening track "Dark Clouds, No Rain." Here, the band combine Floydian soundscapes with the work of Fripp and Eno. (The weird opening "drone" on this track recalls "The Heavenly Music Corporation.") As this 12 minute piece continues, ethnic influences begin to make their presence felt. The song becomes a collage of different musical sounds, ranging from exotic percussion to acoustic guitar. A compelling and highly original track, and the same can be said for the rest of the album.

Similarly, the sampling is fascinating, to say the least. Take the track "Consider Figure Three." The band somehow manage to enfold a medical school lecture (seriously!) into the piece, and the varieties of sampling elsewhere are far from ordinary. The band's exotic instrumentation and sampling are rounded off with several acoustic guitar segments, but on the whole, the electric guitar is banished to "Burning the Hard City."

So far as songwriting is concerned, Djam Karet have yet to better this album. Musical ideas are developed convincingly throughout. It is this attention to songcraft that sets this album far apart from most other ambient/new age releases. So far as progressive rock was concerned, this album did enter genuinely new territory.

If you enjoy this album, it will certainly be worth your time and effort tracking down their 1994 release "Collaborator" which, with the help of supporting musicians Kit Watkins and Steve Roach, follows through on some of the musical paths hinted at on "Suspension and Displacement." Hopefully, it will not be long before Cuneiform Records reissues that album too.

        Product Description

Kumi, Tamara and Zoé are back, for a ride on the back of a sheep! Achieved in the same breath of concerts all around the world (Taiwan, Singapore, Amsterdam, Montreal, Barcelona...), Moutain Mouton could very well be the first actual album of a trio with many ideas, after the cut-and-paste miniatures their debut Il fait tout gris. More complex, denser, less fragile and clumsy, this new opus crafted with six hands is somewhat apparent to a massive pop block, a majestic delivery full of ideas and cravings of melodies, arrangements, words and love. Recorded by F.Lor, with (almost) no overdub, the album is delivered in a crude and collective way, just like the concerts of the trio, yet doesn t go round any labyrinthine folly, doesn t elude any ambitious digression. A good half of the album is backed up by an energetic drum kit, strings unravel at every corner, trumpets multiply ahoy, while melodic immediacy never gets lost in the way. The girls in the band like to tag their music as chamber neo prog , yet it s that big old pop music, that of The Ronettes, of Robert Wyatt, of the Beatles, that ceaselessly claims its rights: a few songs, « Vanilla Girl » or say, « Inflammable », even have airs of hit-singles, of here and now. You can find all the little things that make Konki-songs so peculiar, the heart-breaking pop hooks, the little discordances that pervert their gentleness, the baroque inclinations, the foliated choir arrangements, except everything is greater, more beautiful. Eventually, it s that good old indie rock which comes back with fury and harsher blows and Moutain Mouton, that was mastered by indie rock guru Kramer, is an indie rock record for many more reasons.

          Product Description

Hello Spiral means, kind of, to look straight into the eye of a spiral, without blinking. Hello Spiral is o.lamm’s second official long play, after Snow Party, which was released in april 2002. Hello Spiral is located thousand light years from its predecessor, even if it doesn’t turn its back to it all the same. Hello Spiral is a very singing and sung record. Zoé and Kumi from The Konki Duet, Noak Katoi, The Very Ape, Davide Balula, Odot himself, as well as a twenty people choir gathered for the occasion (the Lucifer Amp Choir) sing very nice cryptic words, making the album very much alike something that really resembles pop music. Hello Spiral is one big whole cut in two halves. The first half is quite rhythmic and steep, the second is calmer, yet drilled with quite dangerous asperities. Hello Spiral is full of instruments and musicians, but also full of very abstract sounds, which go “scriiitch” and “sprooootch”, and which come from nature and aural reality as! well as from very obscure sound synthesis and sound processing softwares. Olivier like to call this his laptop psychedelia and actually finds it quite fun. Hello Spiral is indeed very proud of itself.
