5 out of 5 stars I love this album.......2007-05-25

I bought this as a cassette tape not long after it came out. I think I had heard it on public radio late at night and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, over time the cassette bit the dust. A few years ago I tried to find it on CD and couldn't. I ended up getting Fire in the Engine Room instead. I'm sorry to say those tracks just didn't have the same magic for me. On a whim I searched Amazon and discovered it's out of print. But I did pick up a used copy from one of the Amazon resellers. I'm happy to be able to listen to this album once again.

5 out of 5 stars great collection!.......2003-09-26

I agree with the previous reviewer. I have loved this album since I first heard it in 1985. Unfortionately, I a had a break-in my Beetle (1973) and all my favorite cds were stolen. I can't find this in the stores or record clubs!

Get it if you can.

5 out of 5 stars Five Stars.......2000-02-22

I first heard Andy Narell on a five hour flight from LA to NY. The Jazz Collection sound track had the "Two Tone Shoes" track from the Slow Motion album. I was immediately entranced and repeatedly listened to the whole Jazz Collection so I could hear Two Tone Shoes over and over. I had no idea that steal drums could be so melodic. Also, I was amazed by the creativity of the piece. I immediately bought the album and was astonished to find that I loved all eight tracks on the album. I have become an Andy Narell devote. I own four of his albums and would give five stars to all but one of those albums: Slow Motion, Stickman, and Little Secrets.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful slow-paced Brazilian Jazz.......2007-03-10

I first purchased this CD when it came out in 2001, but hadn't been able to rate it, but it's about time; This CD by now-super famous guitarist/singer/producer is like a great wine; very good at first, but way better after some time.
These composition are like the big majority Celso writes; very smooth/mellow/romantic and with a great sense of subtle rhythms that make you come back for more.
And his list of guests in this project is absolutely amazing; check them out:

- Celso Fonseca / Guitars,Vocals,Keyboards,Compositions,Programming
- Armando Marcal / Percussions
- Jota Moraes / Keyboards,Vibrafone
- Arturo Maia / Bass Guitar
- Robertinho Silva / Drums,Percussion
- Daniel Jobim / Piano
- Joao Donato / Fender Rhodes
- Jussara Silveira / Vocals on "Feito Pra Voce"
- Ronaldo Bastos / Vocals here and there
- Dirceu Leite / Sax
- Marcio Montarroyos / Flugelhorn
- Jaques Morelenbaum / Cello
- Marcos Suzano / Percussion
- and many more............

Absolute must-have in any Jazz, Brazilian Jazz collection.

Alternating tones of sexy guitar crunch and shoegazer shimmer within a crackerjack rhythm framework, Snowpony's first full-length release, The Slow-Motion World of Snowpony, slithers into your subconscious with effortless inevitability. Though Snowpony is mostly spoken of as an alternative "supergroup" based on past exploits of its members in such bands as Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine, and Quickspace, one listen to songs like "Snow White," with its horn-sampling, outta-left-field sensibilities, reveals a unique voice yelling back at you. Katherine Gifford's sleepy phrasings and savvy songwriting imbue the music with a vibrant musicianship and benefit greatly from the authoritative, throbbing backbeat provided by Debbie Googe and Max Corradi (since replaced by Kevin Bass). Informed by rolling melodic structures and the guile of seasoned musicianship, Snowpony have laid claim to a sound that belongs only to them, a sound that jumps out from shadows, pulls you to the ground, and engages in tuneful tickle fights. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2004-03-23

Reading the mixed reviews of this cd I was a little surprised. People seem to have wanted it to be a sound-a-like of Stereolab and My Bloody Valentine. The 2 differ so much I can't see that that is at all realistic. There are influences of both sounds, but this debut stands on its own two feet. It's shoegazing for the post shoegazing era; it's a wall of beautiful noise. I had not listened to it in a few years and rediscovered it while programming music for my online internet radio station, www.radioioROCK.com. I then had to load it into my ipod so I could take with me everywhere, and have started tracks over several times just to hear the intricate manipulation of sounds. Listen to "Easy Way Down", "Way to Survive", and "Snow White" to see why this cd is still amazing after 6 years. MORE than worth checking out.

1 out of 5 stars What a disappointment.......2000-07-08

I got this CD under the assumption it would be great because the girl from My Bloody Valentine was a member. I found out that it also has a member of Stereolab. What I found was a lackluster recording that is a total waste of money. Do yourself a favor, and spend your hard-earned money somewhere else (May I suggest the bands Medicine, and Daisy Chainsaw as an alternative).

4 out of 5 stars an interesting blend.......2000-02-09

snowpony's music is interesting, if not wholly engaging. it provides the link between the early '90s british alternative "shoegazing" scene and the mid-late '90s trip-hop explorations of the british community. snowpony combine wall-of-sound guitar soundscapes with weird samples and horn loops. with members of stereolab and my bloody valentine, there are obvious comparisons to those bands here, but it's also reminiscent of luscious jackson and solex, while being different enough from its influences to be original. the songs are great examples of pop craft, intelligently constructed with samples and loops as much as with conventional playing. overall, an interesting and satisfying listen. cool bonus: check out the sample of sonic youth's "100%" in "3 can keep a secret (if 2 are dead)."

4 out of 5 stars Listen again!.......1999-10-01

Okay, you saw the package design and it said "ex-members of My Bloody Valentine and Stereolab" so you purchased it! Whoa, not exactly the sound you expected was it? This was my experience. I didn't really know if I liked this album because I was sort of expecting Stereolab vocals with My Bloody Valentine music. After listening a few times I decided to let go of my expectations and listen to this album with a new sense of objectivity. It took a few listens before I actually realized how complex this album is! The music is full of nuances that, once discovered, really captivate the listener. Katherine Gifford's vocals seem flat but yet it lends itself to the music by the mere contrast that it is. Snowpony has a unique sound and I would love to hear more from this band.

4 out of 5 stars Impressive debut.......1999-06-17

The more I play this CD, the more I like it. The music goes from left-field alternative pop as in "Easy Way Down" and the Garbage influenced "Snow White" to Another Green World period Eno with the ambient/song styled "St. Lucy's Gate". The atonal horn arrangemnt of "Bad Sister" is absolutely bizarre. Although Stereolab and MBV are two of my favorite bands, it is refreshing that Snowpony doesn't sound like a rehashing of their music but is something quite different.

4 out of 5 stars Missed it the first time around, but making up for lost time.......2004-08-21

Quite an album that this duo from Munich have put together. For the most part, it's atmospheric ambient with low-key beats. But it's also full of wonderful surprises. Rather than simply making multiple trips to the same well, Millenia Nova have assembled a pleasantly different take on ambient music, while retaining the required atmosphere, dreaminess, and dedication to textured soundscapes.

Although most highly recommended to fans of the genre who have eclectic taste themselves, this album is in itself a musical progression of styles, from the slightly new-agey, dreamy opening track to the latter-day Chad & Jeremy stylings of the closing song.

It's fascinating stuff, and any 'ambient head' who has yet to hear this would do well do track down a copy-- readily available used online. It's difficult to compare this album to other prominent ambient artists-- instead, Sightseeing plays as a sort of what-if collection. As in, what if this or that popularized style of ambient techno sounded a little more sophisticated, and a little more smart.

    Rather strongly recommended.

    5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2003-09-27

If you like atmospheric chillout music (like the slower tracks in the cafe del Mar collections) this CD rules! I had the track "I'm Dead" on another compilation and loved it so much I thought I'd check out the whole album. This is already one of my favorite CDs.

A helpful man at a record store which shall remain unnamed recommended this Grammy-winning album to me--I had never heard of the artist before.

From the first listen, I was transported, moving and grooving in my seat as I floated along to the rich, sensual lyrics. I have listened to the album over 50 times now and never tire of the lead singer's rich, relaxing voice, and the depth of musical innovation. After the album is over, I am unfailingly in a sunny mood, grooving along to the neo-bossa nova beat in my mind.
