5 out of 5 stars Nearly 40 years later..................2007-06-21

I have been transferred back in time and loving every single minute of it! I have searched for this album (Rewind/Realization) for years and when I stumbled upon it after nearly giving up on my search, I was ecstatic!! Johnny Rivers has always been one of my favorite artists and Jimmy Webb wrote songs that seemed to call me by name. I can remember the first time I split the cellophane on Rewind and put that vinyl on my turntable. What a heavenly experience it was. I had the same feeling when I split the cellophane on this CD and popped in my disc drive. So many expectations from my past have diminished with time but this experience, I can happily report is not one of them. Although I had to put on my reading glasses to read the fine print this time; my heart was wrapped around the sounds coming out of my compact speakers. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, for bringing these songs back into my life! I will sit here today and type my day away and listen to Sidewalk Song/27 Street, It'll Never Happen Again, Tunesmith with a smile on my face. I feel like I am 18 again in my heart, I will just avoid the mirror today. Johnny, I still love you, wherever you may be. (P.S. I could never drive down Rosecrans Blvd without thinking about you.)

1 out of 5 stars Rewind Realization.......2007-01-16

I was looking forward to all these great songs of Johnny Rivers on one CD! I was amazed and dissapointed at the poor quality. I brought out the Johnny Rivers Anothology CD's I purchased a few years ago to compare . There is no comparison in the quality of the same songs. It is a shame this studio is doing such a disservice to such a great artist. Amazon needs to re-consider using them as a vendor.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible classic.......2007-01-10

All it took was the lead in to Hey Joe, the first song on the Realization portion of the CD, and I was off the planet. Couldn't ask for a more fabulous flashback to the late 60's. Johnny Rivers at his best and never got enough accolades for this amazing album. This CD is more than a collectable. The Realization album was a must in 68/69, and still is. Only wish the remastering was a bit more expansive.

1 out of 5 stars Rivers run dry.......2006-12-27

Don't buy it. If you can get Carpet Man on another collection, do so. He's better off not trying to be hip because he is not. I purchased this for historical purposes, but if you ever wonder about pop idols trying to be hip, Tommy Roe did a little better with Winter's Day.

3 out of 5 stars rewind.......2006-03-18

I was happy that you were able to replace the CD after it got lost in the mail.

At 22, trumpeter Christian Scott plays beyond his years. He not only has chops to spare, and the Berklee College of Music education to go with them, but also an understated elegance you don't often find in players this young. A New Orleans native, Scott also has an uncanny ability to juxtapose benchmark jazz styles, nearly all of which he no doubt absorbed through prolonged exposure to Miles Davis: fusion, funk, postbop, modal, smooth. On his Concord debut, Rewind That, a standout fellow Crescent City product, alto saxophone veteran Donald Harrison, is on hand to enliven several cuts, including a lovely, languorous arrangement of Davis's "So What" (from Kind of Blue). But whether feeding atmospheric effects with his purring notes or pushing against the groove to brassier effect, Scott is very much in the driver's seat with his assured band, including guitarist Matt Stevens, tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III and drummer Thomas Pridgen. He sometimes settles for decorative, Chuck Mangione-type phrases, but most of the time, the substance of his playing is right up there with the style. Nine of the 11 tracks are originals. --Lloyd Sachs

5 out of 5 stars Great Trumpeter.......2007-06-30

I had the opportunity of coming across this cd from checking out another one of his labelmates Taylor Eigsti and also watching him on BET JAZZ as one of the roster Concord label new and up and coming performers for the label. I must say he truly has a way of coming into his newness of mastering the trumpet. What a delight to hear him.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Jazz.......2007-02-15

I purchased this CD after hearing this young man play a Christmas song on TV. All I remember is writing down his name and saying I need to support him. This CD is soooo GREAT and I would recommend to anyone that enjoys stealing a few quiet peaceful minutes for themself to relax and reflect. Looking forward to more music by this artist.

5 out of 5 stars Rhythmically Interesting.......2007-01-13

My fascination with this musical gem of a CD is the drumming. Therefore, I say get ready for an exciting drummer making serious waves. Thomas Pridgen is a young voice that could very well impact the drumming world. Seriously.

5 out of 5 stars Rewind that a winner.......2006-11-06

It's so nice to get a new jazz cd where the artists main interest isn't showing you how fast they can play. This whole cd is rhythmic and seducing as Christian Scott and his band blend beautifully together. As a musician, it's wonderful to hear jazz players play as a team instead of a bunch of individuals. Scotts band does so to a tee.

5 out of 5 stars This Jazz rocks!.......2006-06-28

I had the pleasure of seeing Chritian Scott and his quintet at a Jazz Festival this past weekend. he was the freshest sound there. To a guy groomed on rock, I must say, this guy ROCKS! The guitar riffs, bass lines and drum rythyms set up an awesome driving force and then he compliments it with a meoldic trumpet and sax. Some of my beef against Jazz is that the melody gets lost in random tangents, at least that's what it sounds to a non-Jazz person like me. But I can follow this music and really enjoy it. Definitely worth every penny I spent for this CD and I would have paid the whole festival fee just to see him!

2 out of 5 stars The Godhead = 3 Stars Short.......2007-05-01

Hope I'm not putting too much of a damper on anyone's parade, and I've grown in grace toward Flame since he dropped Rewind, but the fact that he sequeled "the Real One" with "the Godhead" is what made it almost impossible for me to give the album a 5, much less listen to the album on a constent basis considering his tone. It was about this time that I'd noticed that many of the CMR releases(except for Da Truth) were taking on a similar tone and it was about this time that many holy hip hop listeners(iuncluding myself)assumed that CMR was representing the Baptist movement above and against many other denominations. Now I take nothing from Flame, and I've grown in grace and understanding since the release of this album...however, in lieu of the recent release of Our World:Fallen, I'm trusting God that he's had some time to research what orthodox/historic Christianity REALLY taught about the nature of the Godhead via its Catechisms and Creeds(Apostles,Athanasian,Nicene,etc)...that catholicism actually acknowledge both 1 in 3 and 3 in 1 as do the scriptures...so we shouldn't be arguing over the nature of the Godhead anyway. We'll all have an oppportunity in the Kingdom to ask Jesus about the Godhead and His answer will be bigger than trinitarianism and modalism combined. LOL! I strongly recommend Our World Fallen over Flame's 1st two. Much love to Flame regardless.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-04-12

This is a great CD. The beats are solid and the lyrics are simply amazing. He also is not afraid to get into some rather deep theological questions such as the importance of keeping the text in it's context (He even talks about how Preachers take the Isaiah 53 out of context with regard to healing) and the triunity of the Holy Spirit. He even shows you how to study your Bible which I found amazing since most christian Hip-Hop just seems to be about how I survived my life in the streets. I found this CD to not only get me moving but to also teach solid Biblical truths at the same time. I will let you know that is this Midwest Hip-Hop so make sure that you like this style of Hip-Hop before you cop this CD; however, I found his style refreshingly new and each track from the beginning to the end of the CD is solid. I definetely don't skip over any tracks while listening to this CD. I recommend it to one and all!!!!

5 out of 5 stars great CD.......2007-02-19

this is one of the best pure scripture rap cd's i have ever heard the best beats also. this is a must by for any christin rap fan. this is a true christian rap Holy Spirit filled cd

5 out of 5 stars Best Believer's Hip-Hop album to date - period!.......2006-08-03

Flame comes harder on this album than the first. He is pushing and encouraging the listener to get deeper into their relationship with God. He's constantly giving scripture references and doesn't water down the message. He even states in Uh-Oh (track 2) "when my album dropped asked how many albums I sold/ cause honestly I really don't wanna know/ see what I wanna know is/ what I wrote is it grabbin' a soul"

At the same time the beats are great and his flow is second to none. As my title says: Best believer's Hip-Hop album to date - period!

Not only that, but I feel with this album, that barriers between "Christian" Hip Hop and "Real" Hip Hop have been decimated. This album is the Best Hip Hop album I've heard since the year 2000, hands down!

5 out of 5 stars Instant Fave.......2006-07-09

This album is probably the best to come out of St. Louis. His lyrics are well thought, clever, and up to par. He's not just giving the message of GOD, but he's presenting it in a way that some of the best secular acts couldn't rival. If you love Hip Hop, and you love the message of Christ, then this is a must have. You will not reegret it.

4 out of 5 stars 13 post "Hot Rocks" hits........2006-06-12

I believe this was my first Stones disc, and I cherished it for quite a while, especially when I found out it was out of print. It's all songs you know by heart, but that's why I like it I suppose. When "Forty Licks" was released, this collection really became pointless. However, I still keep it because it has "Waiting On A Friend", and "Forty Licks" does not for some reason. I agree with another who said this should have "She's So Cold". I hear that song on radio more than any other, and it doesn't seem to be anywhere besides the "Emotional Rescue" album. Hmmmm. Anyway, This is a good disc, and together with "Hot Rocks" it could keep you from having to get anything else. It's cheap used.

4 out of 5 stars Better this, than the edited versions.......2006-03-18

As someone who really felt burned after purchasing FORTY LICKS and JUMP BACK, both of them being Stones compilations that feature edited versions of some of their best 70s and 80s material, the out-of-print REWIND album still provides me with plenty of, well, satisfaction. Pick it up: the full versions of "Miss You," "Fool To Cry," "Heartbreaker" and "Emotional Rescue" are all here, along with plenty of other gems. Only "Hang Fire" doesn't really hold up, but the rest are near perfect examples of the greatness that is Mick, Keith, Ron, Charlie, 'n' Bill (and of course Mick Taylor, too).

2 out of 5 stars Good But Very Easy to Guess.......2005-08-06

Everyone knows this stuff and if you already had the cds than this is really pointless

2 best songs- brown sugar & heart breaker

4 out of 5 stars Much Better that "Jump Back".......2005-04-28

1. Miss You
2. Brown Sugar
3. Undercover the Night
4. Start Me Up
5. Tumbling Dice
6. Hang Fire
7. It's Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It)
8. Emotional Rescue
9. Beast of Burden
10. Fool to Cry
11. Waiting On a Friend
12. Angie
13. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)
This is a great song collection but 1 thing never made sense to me, The tital "Rewind: 1971-1984" implies that it is to accompany "Hot Rocks: 1964-1971". Why didn't they make this a 1972-1981 collection? (face it, "Undercover the Night" isn't worth it) If they removed the song "Brown Sugar", which appears on Hot Rocks and added "She's So Cold", (a classic) and "Happy", it would be much more fullfilling. The shamefull thing about this album is that "jump back: 1971-1993" has seemed to replace it. An album that focuses on better years will always be better than a compilation that tries to spread to lesser years. If you manage to see this in a local music store, buy it while you can, but make sure you pick up "Hot Rocks" to go with it. It'll be much better that 40 licks for a little extra cash.

With neo-soul not all that neo these days, Ricky Fanté foregoes the genre's reliance on Philadelphia and blaxploitation markers. Instead, on his full-length debut, Rewind, the singer pays homage to '60s touchstones like Otis Redding. The result is sometimes less gritty than might be hoped for, but at the very least, Fanté's voice--at times a ringer for a past revivalist, Terence Trent D'Arby--makes the disc a worthy listen. At his best, Fanté tackles more than the expected; too few artists have dealt with realities like domestic violence (and September 11) as he does on the straightforward "Why." Such moments make for harbingers of greater reach to come. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Classic Southern Soul Music.......2007-05-22

I discovered this CD while browsing and I must admit I never heard of Ricky Fante' until now, he reminds me of the soul of Sam Cook mixed with the grit of Otis Redding. It's like the mid to late 60's music with an urban twist of Neo soul, I'll pen the term of Neo Philly Blues. If you listen to this with a three finger shot of scotch you'll agree, I say way to go Mr. Fante', you brought good listening music back with this one.

5 out of 5 stars RICKY FANTE Should Be A Household Name By Now.......2006-10-10

I first became aware of Ricky Fante when he performed "It Ain't Easy" on Good Morning America. I was so taken by his performance that I immediately ordered his CD, "Rewind." Good move. The music on "Rewind" is refreshing and real and quickly gained heavy rotation in my CD player. And that voice - oh my, my. It is beautifully raw and rich and Mr. Fante clearly sings from the heart. Others may snipe about him "trying too hard" to sound retro, but I could not disagree more. Mr. Fante is singing what he was born to sing, and the results are effortlessly, intoxicatingly soulful. With any luck, Mr. Fante will build on this bedrock foundation he has so capably constructed and will eventually gain the recognition he richly deserves. Here's hoping...

5 out of 5 stars "Rewind" by Ricky Fante.......2006-06-30

Ricky Fante is probably the best new true R&B / Soul singer to come along since Otis Redding. He simply has it. He takes Soul, R&B, the Blues and makes it modern, topical, and totally alive. He is a real breath of fresh air. This is pure music and very, very good music.

5 out of 5 stars Low Ratings for this Album from Deaf People?.......2006-04-07

I don't get it. People rating this album with 2 stars are either deaf or have absolutely no appreciation for great music.

Anyone even remotely interested in soul, or classic R&B are going to instantly fall in love with this collection of well written and produced odes to the greats of yesteryear.

Ricky Fante's vocals are better than anyone I've heard in years. He's just shy of Terrance Trent D'Arby (one of the most underrated vocalists of the past 20 years) in pure vocal gymnastics. He doesn't have the higher vocal range of D'Arby, but his voice is at least as soulfull, if not more so.

My Favorite tracks are It Ain't Easy, Why, and If It's Love, but there is truly not a bad song on this CD.

Do yourself a favor, stop reading this review and order the CD!!

5 out of 5 stars Great throwback to the Golden Era of Soul.......2005-07-27

I can't understand why some people gave this cd only 2 stars. This album is not creative by any means, and what? Good music is not necessarily creative. Ricky Fanté just makes soul that sounds exactly back, way back in the days, when soul music was just irresistibly organic, earthy and gave you big chills.
Is there anything wrong with that?
In these times where R&B we hear at the radio has often lost the signification of its letters, it's really enjoyable to listen to a cd like that. I wouldn't call this album neo-soul because you won't find any hip hop beats incorporated in it and it's not an experimental record with poetic lyrics either. It's just retro-soul, and very well-done retro-soul, which reminds the likes of Otis Redding, Sam Cooke or Al Green.
Ricky Fanté won't make you forget about them (and nobody will) but thanks to him the legacy of this kind of great classic soul singers can continue.
Many tracks from this album sound like instant classics, which is inarguably a quality proof.
My personal favorite are the 1st five tracks, I find the other ones a notch behind, which doesn't mean they are bad of course.
I highly recommend this album to everyone into soul music (whatever it is classic or contemporary), as well as the ones from Donnie and Jacksoul

Album Description

UK reissue of the 1970 debut album for the British Folk act compared to Fairport Convention. Divided between traditional Folk covers ('The Great Silkie' is the best) and Tobias Boshell originals, Gardens Of Jane Delawney remains a fine album on par with Fairport Convention, Pentangle and Steeleye Span albums of the era. Oddly enough, main songwriter Boshell eventually joined Kiki Dee's band and wrote her biggest hit, the oft-covered 'I've Got The Music In Me'! Nine tracks including 'Nothing Special', 'Lady Margaret' and 'She Moved Through The Fair'. Sony/BMG.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars brilliant stuff.......2005-10-28

all the Trees material is amazing and should be checked out by anybody interested in British folk-rock. I just felt the need to counter the Jimmy Page-bashing by the other review here. The Bert Jansch song they refer to was called 'Blackwaterside' and the Led Zeppelin instrumental 'Black Mountainside' -- which was performed live as White Summer - does indeed seem to copy Jansch note for note. But not only was this years before the Trees recorded their own interpretation, the album credits are actually "Trad., arrangement by J.Page". And this is technically completely correct - it WAS a traditional tune, and the arrangement IS from Page. The fact that he borrowed huge musical phrases and much of the dynamics from Jansch only means he knew good music when he heard it. Page was actually very open about his taste for British folk-rock -- remember that Sandy Denny sang on Zeppelin IV -- and if Bert Jansch felt he had been unduly ripped off he could have taken legal action. In fact, I have played Jansch's Blackwaterside for dozens of people and thus opened up a whole new audience for HIM when they realized what an influence he was on Page. I think Jansch knew (and still knows) this and would probably THANK him for having borrowed so strongly from his work. He and Davy Graham certainly haven't starved as a result of Zeppelin's success.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice Folk Rock album with a bit of "Psychedelia".......2005-10-04

Of the two albums by Trees, this, The Garden Of Jane Delawney, is more traditional sounding than their second album "On The Shore." It's not as hard rocking, much mellower, but still a brilliant album with some great lead guitar solos, and Celia Humphris vocals are just amazing, beautiful and incredible voice.
Their is one song on here that Jimmy Page stole the main guitar parts for, and then used it in the song he calls "White Summer," but it's actually taken from the traditional folk song "She Moves Through The Fair," which Davey Graham covered along with Bert Jansch, who was one of Page's acoustic influences. It's not a surprise that Page stole from that song as well as tons of others. He simply should not have got credit for being the writer of that song, and Led Zeppelin would also play "White Summer" live in concert. Their is even a website that describes how Jimmy Page & The Yardbirds ripped off other groups/artists of songs, and also Led Zeppelin.

The Garden of Jane Delawney is quite different in my opinion from their second album "On The Shore," but I still like and enjoy it very much, it definitely has it's moments, and I think the best thing about this album is some of the great guitar work, and of course, fantastic female vocals from Celia Humphris. But I think that "On The Shore" is a much better and stronger album, it's not as mellow as this, but this still is an excellent album and worth having. Glenn Signal Hill,CA USA

    Album Description

The concept of the "Rewind!" compilation series is simple: Ubiquity's favorite artists cover their favorite tracks, revealing their influences and bringing classic tunes up to date. Just as with volume three, this collection contains 100% cover versions made from scratch (no remixes or re-edits), with five completely exclusive tracks, one as yet unreleased track, and three more previously unavailable on CD until now. The eclectic line-up includes Sharon Jones featuring legendary funkster Lee Fields, Nostalgia 77 featuring Quantic vocalist Alice Russell, SA-RA Creative Partners and the Platinum Pied Pipers, Nicole Kramer, and in-demand UK remixers Yam Who? Opening with the funkiest rendition of Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land", there are also new versions of tracks originally penned and performed by acts as varied as The White Stripes, Cameo, Sly And The Family Stone, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and the Fania Allstars. Each Rewind! is compiled to unfold like a perfect mix tape with a lil' something for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Another great addition to the series.......2007-06-21

These artists recreate the tunes that inspired them with new flavor. The versions of "Word Up" and "7 Nation Army" on this album are simply mind-blowing. This is a must-have if you are into funk and soul.

    5 out of 5 stars Of Course.......2005-03-07

I will forever have confidence in Ubiquity to bring it correctly. This album of wonderfully souled out covers is no exception. Worth it for the first track alone! Powerful to say the least. As the liner notes query: "Has Woody Guthrie ever sounded so funky?" I think not.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars American fans beware.......2005-06-09

This is certainly a great collection, especially the videos. However keep in mind the DVD is in PAL format, not NTSC. They might be region 0, but if you don't have a DVD player that can specifically play the PAL format then you won't be happy with the results. I really, really hope they make a Region 1 (NTSC) version of this someday for those of us Camouflage fans who want this in the U.S.A. and don't have international DVD players.

5 out of 5 stars Great rare complilation !!!.......2003-06-10

This cds set is great! the DVD is awesome !! incluidng all rares promo clip of Camouflage that you cannot find anywhere else (or anymore) If you like early sound of Depeche Mode then you will love Camouflage too.

    5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2003-01-23

Great CD by a great German group! CAMOUFLAGE sounds like Depeche Mode... Listen to "The great commandment" and "Love is a Shield", these two hits are one of my favorite new wave of all time, in addition, this Limited Edition box set is packed with a DVD of their best clips. SUPERB!

5 out of 5 stars The ultimative compilation !.......2001-08-15

The band camouflage has turned out for something through the commercialization of the present-day, very fast-moving music-industry into forgetting. After the very successful eighties, they could tie in the subsequent decade at these gigantic successes no longer. With hits, yes actually milestones in the music-history, like "The Great Commandment" (1987 / 1988), "Strangers Thoughts" (1988), ýNeighbours" (1988), "That Smiling Face" (1988 / 1989), "One Fine Day" (1989), "Love Is A Shield" (1989), "Heaven (I Want You)" (1991), and "Handsome" (1991) reached Oliver Kreyssig, Marcus Meyn and Heiko Maile to world-fame. The albums "Voices & Images" and "Methods Of Silence" also participates true synthi-pop-classics today. And even the following, many too underrated albums "Meanwhile" (1991), "Bodega Bohemia" (1993) and "Spice Crackers" (1995) testify to the class and the qualities, that the musicians in the text, composing and in the chant unites. In the year 1997, the Polydor (Universal Music) published, meanwhile owners of the song-right of the Metronome, already a Best-Of-CD with the title "We Stroke The Flames". However without consent of the musicians. Meanwhile, this CD of the market was taken. The new Best-Of-CD was published 2001. This time with consent of the band and of course also with their involvement. The Doppel-CD "Rewind - 1995-1987", 2001, a very successful retrospective view now participates and reminds of a musical epoch, that finished much too quickly. The first CD, an audio-CD, comprises the hits in good sort and digitally remastered. There, one finds also the original-single-version from ýLove Is A Shieldý in the first text-setting, that participates different, as on the album "Methods Of Silence". On the second CD, a DVD, all video-clips are written until now participate present, including which up to now unpublished "Handsome". As further highlight, there are scenes from the studio, backstage-recordings and further material from the private-archive of the band. A booklet with more exact statements is also enclosed. Very commendable!
