Disco at its best!!.......2007-06-15
If you like to hear disco....this is the album!
Disco.......2007-05-13
Good selections, good fidelity, original artists. Not the ususal "bottom of the barrel" anthology. Well worth the price
I FINALLY,found"THAT(smoooooooth) song!!.......2007-03-22
I had been,wondering,for years'where,I could get,one of the mellowest,beats',that,I'd EVER,heard!! I'm talking about "Loves Theme". For YEARS(when,I was younger)I would hear it,every now and again,being played on the radio(not having a CLUE,as to what "it" was called,or, WHO,composed it)and,I would always' be TRANSFIXED,by the sheer BEAUTY,of this"mysterious"song...(that always,seemed to spark a bit of melancholy,in my heart)...One time,I thought,that I heard a D.J. mention something about"Loves' Themesong"(which,I thought was a PERFECT,name,for such a beautiful song!!!But,that,"incident" was so LONG,ago(over 15 years')I,was unsure,if(with my CHAOTIC,post-stroke memory)I,actually DID hear that,or,just IMAGINED,hearing that title for it!!But,I saw those,words,on,the tracklisting,for,this,album,and now,I,FINALLY,have this GREAT song!!Can you say:Early 2007 CHRISTMAS?!!?
Disco Dancing - Need to have this one.......2006-11-05
This CD has many of the classics that are not on the other compilations of disco music. It was so great to hear the music again. Definately a good buy
The very best for your money.......2006-09-02
Do yourselves a favor and buy all 3 of these Disco CDs. volume 1, 2, and 3. They are a superb value for the money and represent the very best in Disco Music. Like I said in my review of Disc 1, I use these CDs to work out on the tread mill. They keep me energized and bring back the fondest memories of my younger days when I could really swing to this kind of music. Now I trot to this kind of music on the tread mill and it is still as much fun!!!

Customer Reviews:
Controversial second effort from the Pure Funk series.......2004-10-12
The second and more controversial disc in the Pure Funk series, Pure Funk Vol. 2 contains many Funk band and Funk artist's slightly lesser known hits plus a few from groups not immediately recognizable as masters of Funk. The songs are a bit slower in tempo and might be a better album to play at the end of the night when the party is winding down -- not when you want to crank things up.
There are a few highlights, however. One can't help but recall the local boys feeble attempts at stripping in the movie "The Full Monty" whenever Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing" begins. While Queen certainly wasn't a Funk band by anyone's stretch of imagination, they did write one excellent, kickin' base line for "Another One Bites The Dust" that's instantly recognizable anywhere and would make any Funk band proud to call their own! Stomp twice on the bleachers and clap! Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" is always a crowd pleaser and Barry White proves once again in "I'm gonna Love You Just a Little More" that the deep voice gets the girl.
For those not of the `Keep on Truckin'' generation, you'll discover the origin of many samples from your favorite songs (you mean they didn't write that rif themselves?!?!) plus you'll discover what song the Spice Girls ripped off for their album Spice World. Hint: She's a Bad Mama Jama . . . . Just don't tell anyone you think all of this stuff is funk, because it's not. That doesn't mean you won't enjoy the album as much as I did, just know that the first Pure Funk album is a better `Funk primer.'
Like the first Pure Funk album, not everything is from the 70's funk era -- half of the songs in fact. "Let It Whip" by Dazz Band, "Ain't Nobody" from Rufus & Chaka Khan, D Train's "You're The One For Me," The Gap Band's "Outstanding" were all early to mid 80's hits. "Get Down On It" by Kool & The Gang, The Whispers "It's a Love Thing," Rick James' "Give it to Me Baby," Carl Carlton's "She's a Bad Mama Jama," and Junior's "Mama Used to Say" were all released in the year 1981.
Twenty songs for ten bucks -- that's 50 cents a song. If you delete the songs on the album you don't consider "Funk," you're only out a few bucks. Buy this album only after you get the first album first.
I know what I like.......2002-03-20
A lot of the other reviewers have blasted this CD because it is not a true funk compilation. Well, maybe so. I don't know. I'm not a connoisseur of the art form. All I know is that I enjoyed the hell out of these songs (with the exception of Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust," which I could happily live the rest of my life without hearing again). I was exclusively into metal when these songs came around the first time, so it's a pleasure to be exposed to so many great pop songs that I was only dimly aware of, if I had heard them at all.
Soft and commercial.......2001-12-21
Seems like they sold too many of the first volume, and have produced a second just to try to rake in a little more. Hardly any of the tracks on this album are funk, and as for Queen being the opener... it speaks for itself. To me, funk is typified by an active bass line, compelling beat and sharp guitar or brass; any or all of these are lacking on most of the tracks here. What you get instead is a collection of slothful, disparate songs, hardly conducive to dancing. Save your money.
Not FUNK!!!.......2001-11-28
This is, in no way, shape or form, funk!!! I mean, how the hell is "Another One Bites The Dust" funk?! My God!!! This is sure as hell not "Pure Funk", this is soft, white funk!!! (...)
pure non funk 2.......2001-10-10
funk is that kinda vibe you eat hotwings and groove at fish fries funk is when you come out of church's chicken jamming, sorry but half this cd is not funk, d train is bubblegum pop, gap band outstanding is not funky enough, but hits, why is queen on here they was not a funk group, the whispers no way hose, carl carlton's she's a bad mama jama is not a funk classic, i always said these funk compilations does the artists injustice, if you wanna learn what funk is check out the original recordings well i'll list a few, the entire catalog, and entourage of james brown, parliament-funkadelic, sly stone, larry graham, bootsy collins, barkays, ohio players, chaka khan and rufus, cameo, curtis mayfield, mandrill, earth, wind fire, war, the list is endless.

The second round of sounds from 54 kicks off with Stars on 54--the powerhouse trio of club canaries Ultra Naté, Amber, and Jocelyn Enriquez--breathing life into a house reinvention of Gordon Lightfoot's tepid "If You Could Read My Mind." What distinguishes the 15 subsequent tracks is a sparkling symbiosis of artist, melody, and musical invention. Could anyone but the towering Grace Jones have growled "I Need a Man" with such ferocity? And the syncopated bridge of Bonnie Pointer's "Heaven Must Have Sent You" oozes more juice than most contemporary R&B hits. Thoughtful sequencing, with an emphasis on the oft-overlooked stylistic breadth disco achieved under the best producers and performers, makes this an even better bet than volume 1. --Kurt B. Reighley
Customer Reviews:
funky disco.......2007-07-06
if you like disco music then youll love this cd... all great songs from back in the day....
one song on this soundtrack is MIA.......2007-04-14
ok...what happened to MY favorite song in the movie "54", the soundtrack version of Hang On In There Baby by Johnny Bristol?!?!?! :(
Journey to the pass.......2007-01-30
This Cd was when Dance music was ruling the world. Take a journey back to the time of real music, and not a bunch of noise coming out of their mouths. Music had a beat, a rhythm a style and most of all, it had class. You had to look at your best to be able to get into Studio 54. Today, even with a baseball cap and eating a microphone you can talk sing. On this CD, you had to be the best to be able to Dance, Dance, Dance. The music on this Cd will take you back in time and relive the beauty of the dance floor, lights, and heart pounding bass that MADE you dance all night. This CD does just that.
Disco Boogie - continues..........2007-01-10
I couldn't get enough of the volume 1 that I bought the volume 2. The boogie continues as well as the fun, the groove and the grandiosity of the interpreters. Even though Iam in my 20's this is the kinda of music that I identify with for many reasons. Nowadays, you can find either so many artists playing the same comercial hits, music without "substance" or, worst, that dehumanize women. Disco is all about dance, happyness and fun. An excelent buy!
If you like late 70's dance music.......2006-03-24
This version of the music from 54 is much better than the other sountrack. There are a few really good songs on there, about half of them are pretty good. The rest all sound basically the same.

Earth, Wind & Fire retained their hit-making touch into the '80s, as this sequel to their 1978 best-of makes clear with "Let's Groove" (1981) and "Turn On (The Beat Box)" (1988). Still, the disc concentrates on their '70s work, from the early "Mighty Mighty" to the later, slightly slicker "Boogie Wonderland" and "After the Love Is Gone." And those who can't get enough of "Fantasy," which appeared on volume 1, will be glad to see it repeated here. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
Good Collection.......2006-09-04
back in the day I mainly bought this for the fact that "Love's Holiday" was on it. always had to collect EWF Albums back in the day. I wasn't feeling there WHitney Houston lite cut "Turn on the Beatbox" which was a Poor Man's "Let's Groove". alot of the tracks on here have the 70's Greatness of there Peak&prime time form. EWF along with the Isley brothers are my all time favorite bands.
Has Love's Holiday On It.......2006-01-31
I bought this cd for Love's Holiday, a song I have loved for years but could never find. The other songs are good too!
I Am Surprised At All Of The Negative Reviews!!!.......2006-01-03
I own both Best of CD's by EWF. I am glad that I do. This one completes what I feel are some of their best songs!!! I am surprised at all of the negative reviews! Maybe I missed something??? My favorites on this one are Turn On (The Beat Box), Let's Groove, After The Love Is Gone, and Devotion. I wasn't that much of a fan of EWF till recently...so, maybe they are what I have missed all along.
The Two Stars Are For Presentation.......2005-09-01
Earth,Wind & Fire's first greatest hits album is so musically well constructed it's almost worth those who own the albums already to have it.The same isn't true with this one-tune's like "Love's Holiday","Serpentine Fire","Mighty Mighty" and "Boogie Wonderland" are classics but the overall album doesn't flow together half as well as the first. The juxtaposition of era's is jarring too-the production and style of some of the songs have too much of a range and makes it seem well....dated in parts.Better to purchase the chronological and extensive 'Eternal Dance' box set-it has ALL the hits in the proper order and is frankly better mastered.
Love's Holiday is encluded which is strangely absent on some other collections.......2005-07-26
Minus September and Reasons you get the other great great songs.
MUST HAVE for Love's Holiday.

Great disk.......2007-06-14
"80's" compendiums usually are code for, "KROQ playlist". This one's no different, and thank heaven! As in, Heaven 17, of course, and while there are a couple fillers on here (the Spanish version of "Hey, Mickey" is a waste of space), it's a great disc.
Do Not Buy For T'Pau! (Review for Liv in Obliv Vol 2).......2006-03-08
For some reason this review seems to show up on Living In Oblivion Vol 1 (and so do others). This is a review of the Vol. 2 disc.
Hmm. The tracks selected for this CD are kind of interesting, a bit more obscure (to American ears, anyway) than most 80's collections. The only real mega-hit, T'Pau's 1987 smash "Heart and Soul," is butchered by the low fidelity of the track--a problem plauging this CD in its entirety to an extent, but the T'Pau track is by far the worst. It sounds almost like it's mono, but I'm not sure.
Still, a few of the more obscure features make this an interesting compilation. DJ's doing 80s stuff might want to throw on the Spanish language version of Toni Basil's "Mickey" (provided along with the regular version)--it's a Hoot! Power Station's cover of the T-Rex early '70's hit "Get It On (Bang A Gong)" is one I recall from the 80's--though unequal to the original, it is worth playing from time to time. Some of the other well-known tracks by the Vapors, Motels, Thompson Twins, Missing Persons, Culture Club, Katrina & the Waves, Thomas Dolby, Naked Eyes, Talk Talk, as well as the English version of Toni Basil's Mickey, are best acquired elsewhere where the fidelity is better.
There are some real wacko tracks on this CD not generally available elsewhere. Most notable is "88 Lines About 44 Women" by the Nails (who??), a definitely R-rated discussion, of, apparently, the "artist's" female conquests. It amuses a little (if you like crude off-color sex puns, that is) but does not overwhelm either, and it is not an under-17 track (which is a shame since the humor in is is more like under 13). The Fun Boy Three with Bananarama track "It ain't what you do," is another obscurity that, probably, deserves its fate. The remaining songs I haven't mentioned I will leave to Rest In Peace, as they are all vintage forgettables except for the strangely out of place "Neverending Story," which surely is available elsewhere with better fidelity.
In sum, maybe buy used, but for God's sake don't buy this mediocre effort new.
(For a different, very interesting perspective on this CD, read "Atlanta Native's" post.)
Half awesome!.......2006-02-13
The truth is, with 80's collections, the more songs it has that you want, the better it is. This "Living In Oblivion" series is no different. I find "Volume 5" to be the best, others may not. Like most of them though, I really love half of what's here, the rest is still ok. My favorites are the excellent "Get It On (bang a gong)", "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Heart And Soul", and "The Jam Was Moving". Others I'd call classic are "Running Up That Hill", "Destination Unknown", and the infamous "Never Ending Story". If you can find this for a few bucks, it's well worth the trip down memory lane.
Awesome! Non-typical "hits" from the 80's .......2005-11-30
The Living In Oblivion series of CD compilations does something that many similar compilations do NOT do: they give us some great variety of "hits".
There is no doubt that "Mickey" by Toni Basil was a huge hit. There's also no doubt that "Our Lips are Sealed" was a break out hit for the Go Go's, but the Funboy Three version wasn't. But what about "Living in a Box"? It only hit the Billboard top 100 at #89 in 1987. So why is it here? Why are a large number of these songs? They're not top 10 hits, right?
Wrong!
I'm sick to death of so many compilations relying on top 40 hits from the 80's. The U.S. music tastes are typically very different from those of Europe. Just because a song doesn't make the U.S. Billboard top 40 doesn't mean that it isn't a hit in other countries. And although I'm an American, my music tastes have always run more in line with those of Europe.
I'm delighted that the Living in Oblivion series (and the Pop and Wave series) have incorporated a variety of hits from the U.S. and Europe.
I also like that some of the more obscure groups and their songs are available on these compilations. There are several songs on these albums that never were released on CD (as they hadn't come into being at the time of the groups' albums initial releases), so albums such as these are the only place where you can find these hits. The Boys Don't Cry song "I Wanna Be a Cowboy" hit the Billboard charts at #12 in 1986, but the group disappeared soon thereafter. Then all of a sudden a dance version of that same song came out in the early 2000's and rocketed up the dance charts.
Don't be misled, the Living in Oblivion series is one of the absolutely best series for a variety of music from the 80's. If you want to hear run of the mill, top 40 only hits from the 80's, well, then you'll just have to look elsewhere.
Also, the liner notes and pictures of the groups included in the jewel box are really clever. You get to find out what the chart position was for the songs in the compilation and see what the groups looked like at the time of the song's release. My only issue with these liner notes is that the author of them seems to be disparaging the very music which these albums are espousing. Apparently many believe that the music from the 80's was vacuous and devoid of emotion. One need only listen to the song "The Promise" by the group "When in Rome" (Living in Oblivioon Volume 5) to know that such a statement is false. While that group only had this one hit and then faded into obscurity, "The Promise" made the Billboard Top 100 at #11 and the Billboard Dance Chart at #1.
Anyway... I can't recommend this album and its entire series any more! It's simply awesome! Before believing those who would disparage this series of albums, please check the Billboard charts and you'll see that these songs were in fact hits.
GET IT!
Great for the true new wave fans.......2005-08-13
I don't understand why people keep reviewing the Living in Oblivion series and whining that these aren't the songs they heard on the radio. There are plenty of compilations out there with all the 80s radio hits. This series has a lot of the great songs that didn't get much radio play. I knew all but one song on this disc because in the 80s I was hanging out at postpunk/new wave clubs and listening to college radio. For anyone who truly loves new wave/club music from the 80s, this is a great collection.

Customer Reviews:
Bring back the drums!.......2006-12-27
It's nice to hear a good "drum" mix since the trend in eletronica has been toward the more tech/minimal house these days. Disc 1 (Chus & Ceballos) starts off with a good intro to the set with a track titled Dibiza. The mix continues followed by an impressive track #4 (Flash). More drums here and there, here and there...then a surprising vocal thrown in for good measure titled "My World". Worth noting is the great build-ups throughout the CD. This further establishes this mix at the top of my rotation. I can never get enough of some great techy, dramatic build-ups (see "Keep It Going" for an illustration) Great track selection on disc #1.
The Sharam Jey disc is what I was truly after. Sharam Jey has been making a strong name for himself by producing and mixing some of the most played club tracks recently. He is known for low laying bass with some nasty beats. Some of this set however, is shadowed by some minimal type beats with a slower beat per minute. Standout tracks include "Living It Up," "Do For Love," and "Neo Dancer."
Surprisingly for me, the Chus & Ceballos disc turns out to be the better of the two. However, I would highly recommend the purchase both both well rounded discs.

If you've never tuned in to Radio Disney, you're probably living with yaks someplace on a mountainside. The kids' radio station grownups love to dislike, even while allowing it to play in the car and house (and inside their minds), relies heavily on an extremely tight play list. It's not true that Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and Christina Aguilera secretly own the station; it just seems that they do, given all the spins they get. Radio Disney Jams, Vol. 2 picks up where last hour's programming left off, with some modified lyrics from Lou Bega on "Disney Mambo No. 5," substituting the name of leading Disney cartoon characters for the women he fancies in his original mambo superhit. Of course, there's Weird Al Yankovic spoofing Star Wars and "American Pie" (not the Madonna version) with "The Saga Begins." Queen's "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" are two eminently familiar anthems, thanks in part to their crossing over into every imaginable sport from hockey to bowling. Will Smith, Stevie Wonder, and 98 Degrees are all here. And those disco diehards, the Village People and Sister Sledge, will remind older parents how long ago the '70s really were. New artists, including Steps, Jason Raize, and Aaron Carter also fill out this 18-track tribute to the power of Disney brandcasting. --Martin Keller

Great CD.......2003-08-20
Of course it's from Disney so it's most always likely gonna be great. This is a great selection of songs for anyone with the kid in us. I listen to it over and over.
Great CD for All Ages.......2003-02-19
I bought this CD out of curiosity a couple of years ago and have found a whole new avenue of music. This CD is jammed with songs that I never get tired of listening to. My kids, 13 and 6, both beg to hear it every time we get in the car. I recommend it for all ages, young and young-at-heart! Since this first purchase, I have bought other Disney CD's and have never been disappointed!
The best dancing, singing, upbeat CD anywhere.......2003-02-09
This CD has some of the most fun to dance to and listen to songs ever. My kids have been listening to it for 3 years now and still are not tired of it. My (picky) son (now 6) and daughter (now 5) will both dance to it. Actually, it's a whole family event.
The night before my husband deployed to Bosnia, the whole family was depressed and down. Trying to liven things up so we wouldn't always remember the depressing last few moments with my husband, I put in this CD. Talk about brightening things up! We were all singing and dancing with everyone smiling. I still enjoy remembering that evening. It's all thanks to Radio Disney.
This is without a doubt a "Disney Wholesome" CD with no explicit lyrics. This is definitely our family favorite. It could be yours too!
