South Carolinas I NINE is a band many of you have never heard of, but soon will. This South Carolina foursome have started to blossom, and are winning over early believers. This EP is a collection of their best live performances. Among their early fans is Cameron Crowe, who hand-picked I Nine to perform the lead single Same In Any Language for the highly-anticipated Paramount Pictures feature film soundtrack ELIZABETHTOWN. 5 out of 5 stars Bonus Track on this EP is a MUST.......2007-07-22

I've Been a Soundgarden fan for many years. It's very difficult to pick a favorite song, but "Kyle Petty, Son of Richard" is one of the strongest B-Sides I have ever heard. It's as good or better than "Bleed Together" from the 'A-Sides' greatest hits compilation. It could have easily been included on 'Superunknown'.

If you like Soundgarden or Audioslave and haven't heard this song, this CD is worth the money.

The band recorded a show in NYC at Tonic that is great -- the show turned out really good and will appeal not only to MMW fans but also to fans of roots music. Their music has a rootsy feel that blends blues, folk, and rock music in a guitar/bass duo. Catch The Wood Brothers on the road! Their debut full-length CD, Ways Not to Lose, comes out in March 2006. With only 7 tracks, this CD leaves you wanting many more! That is my only complaint. It is definately well worth a purchase. It's funky-folk at it's finest. Very Hep!!!! Buy it. (or, if you want a longer CD, "Ways not to Loose" has many of these songs-equally great).

4 out of 5 stars The concert was good ..........2006-06-13

I was at the 9:30 pm Brattle concert on the night of October 18, 2000, which I believe is the source for some of the songs on this CD (he played another show earlier in the evening as well). It was a very, very good acoustic show -- his voice was deep where it needed to be ("Ride With Me"), and raw when he had to be ("Rabbit", which unfortunately did not make the final cut). He also played some great stuff I hadn't heard before, like "Frying Pan".

    4 out of 5 stars nice acoustics.......2004-06-14

nothing would give me more pleasure than to tell you that this cd is a superb, unqulaified success deserving of 5*'s. it's very good, but i have a few reservations.

on the positive side - welcome back Evan, 1 record in the preceding 7 or 8 years is a void in the music world. the quality of the live set is excellent, i always thought evan was at his best on his own and acoustic when i saw the lemonheads previously. remember those encores of 'being around' or 'divan'?? also really glad to see a couple of 'lovey' tracks on here including 'ride with me', 'stove' and 'half the time'. the rendition of 'the outdoor type' stands head and shoulders above the rest here. cd2 is a studio record of covers, with only the tribute to hank williams a standout in my opinion.

on the downside and top of the list is the length. as usual with evan there is precious little music for your money, in fact not even 60 mins all told on both discs in this case. for a full-price 2cd set that isnt much bang for the buck. only one new song on the live set (albeit the excellent 'same thing you thought hard about' from baby i'm bored) is a little disappointing. cd2 doesn't quite work, evan never seems to sound as comfortable with other people's songs and the only time he did was when a bit of a joke backfired on him (must confess i quite like the alt lyrics of mrs robinson that evan sang live!).

the live cd is well worth getting hold of, the other disc is far less interesting so it is probably a 5* recommendation and a 3* recommendation at a fairly hefty price... that said, it did pave the way for 'baby i'm bored', which is excellent....

5 out of 5 stars EVAN IS BACK !!.......2003-01-15

Evan Dando is Back!!! He is better than ever. This CD lets us listen to his melodic voice in an intimate setting. Evan Dando is perhaps the best at performing an acoustic show. His EP with a little alt-country is terrific as well. I saw him...at a show and he was superb there as well....

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing - to say the least.......2002-12-13

I picked this CD up as soon as I saw it was available. I'm very fond of Dando, especially his acoustic stuff. To be kind, this CD is just not all that great. I've heard better tunes off some of the music swapping sites. I've listened to the CD once and have put it away for the duration. I would much rather enjoy my own compilation of his acoustic sets and radio appearances. I sincerely suggest you put your money to better use.

5 out of 5 stars Dando at his best!.......2002-05-21

I can't say enough about this one. Evan Dando's deep, sexy voice shines in this live acoustic set.
If you love Evan, as I do, you'll listen to this over and over again. Dando pairs his deep, yet tangential lyrics with cutting guitar riffs and his fluid vioce. Songs like "My Drug Buddy" and "The Turnpike Down" mesh very well with the more obscure "Stove" and "Thirteen". Every song is better than the next. The only thing missing is backing vocals by Juliana Hatfield! All ED fans should own this gem.

3 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam - 'Alive Live' EP (Phantom Sound).......2006-11-29

Ha! I've completely forgotten all about this four track CD single that Pearl Jam had released after their first album came out. Remember, that before Eddie Vedder and gang had started putting out live 2-CD recordings of virtually each and every one of their tour performances, us Pearl Jam fans HAD to rely on pieces like this to hear them play live. How DID we manage? "Alive", "Even Flow" and "Wash" are good to hear. Didn't care for "Dirty Frank" all that much. Aimed toward the completists.

4 out of 5 stars bad price great item.......2003-07-29

i cannot complain about the cd in general, but the ... price seems a bit high just to get the rerecorded even flow, the only track not available elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars Get It For Track 3.......2002-11-26

As with all CD singles, get this one if you happen to be a Pearl Jam fanatic, looking for more stuff by the band. The first two tracks (ALIVE, ONCE) are taken from TEN. But it's Track 3, WASH, that is worth the purchase here. It's melodic, haunting and reminds one of other great PJ songs of this type like OCEANS, RELEASE and INDIFFERENCE. The lyrics flourish and Vedder's voice carries the mood of the song perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Pearl Jam.......2001-11-19

It's my opinion that if you don't already have copies of "Wash" or "Dirty Frank," this CD is well worth the twenty-five bucks. The re-recorded version of "Even Flow," which was used in the music video, is a step above the Ten version as far as intensity goes. Eddie's vocals are so much more energetic, Abruzzese beats out Krusen on the drums, and Stone does this awesome palm-muted guitar riff after the second and third choruses that just drives it home. The "Alive" version is from the music video too and it's good. "Wash" and "Dirty Frank" are cool collectibles.

3 out of 5 stars Great songs... but way too expensive........2001-03-23

    Review edit:
This review was originally written for the Alive EP, which is an import available right here at Amazon.com for around $25. If you are viewing this review from the page for the U.S. Alive single, I give that 5 stars and suggest that you get the Alive EP insted if you can. Now, on to the review of the Alive EP.

First of all, you might be wondering what this EP contains. Essentially, you get:

    1) The "video version" of Alive - different from the album version, because the video featured a live performance of the song. 2) The "video version" of Even Flow - different from the album version because it features Dave Abruzzezze on drums instead of Dave Krusen, who played drums on Ten. Also, it starts with a scream by Eddie and finishes with some additional vocals dubbed into the song at the end. (Of course, both Alive and Even Flow are audio tracks; there are no videos included on this CD)
    3) Dirty Frank - Pearl Jam meets the Chili Peppers... a really cool song, and the lyrics are a hoot!
    4) Wash - a great song all around, very slow and reflective. Of all songs on Ten, it's probably closest to Release and Oceans.
    5) A cool insert with handwritten lyrics to Dirty Frank, lyrics to other songs in both English and Japanese, pictures, and some other cool stuff.
So, should you buy this CD? Well, I was lucky enough to find a copy of it in a used CD store for $4. But I don't think that it's worth $25, hence the 3 star rating. If you really must have Dirty Frank and Wash, studio versions of these songs are available on other singles from Ten... I think Dirty Frank is on Even Flow, and Wash is on the regular Alive. You can also get the live version of Wash on the Pittsburgh official bootleg.
Anyhow, get this CD if you can afford it and really don't mind spending $25 on 4 songs.

          4 out of 5 stars rocks a lot.......2007-03-22

Have to agree with the other reviewer, I caught these guys in Atlanta last year opening for Switchfoot and I was pleasantly surprised at how great they were. Usually an opening band doesn't hold my attention but I was riveted to their set, I was also blown away by the 70's vibe and yet the sound was updated. I bought the live EP and have worn it out. Can't wait for the full length to come out next week. Good rock with good lyrics, you can't go wrong...

4 out of 5 stars Best new band in a loooong time........2007-03-17

I got to see these guys open for Switchfoot in NYC. They totally rocked, really tight, good tunes, a lot of raw passion. The crowd response was very favorable, which is rare for an opening act. Everyone was into it. Even the lead singer was surprised! A couple of times he was nearly apologetic and said he understood if people were annoyed at having to wait through their set, but the audience returned shouts of, "YOU ROCK!" and the like. There was a free three-song promotional EP with studio versions of Control, Fall Behind, and Strange New Place. I don't think you can buy it anywhere; it has no barcode. Anyway, I cranked it in my car for days, just those three songs! I bought this live EP, which is a pretty good taste, and I'm totally amped for the album coming out at the end of March. What do they sound like? If Pearl Jam had actually been a GOOD band they'd have been Moses Mayfield. Throw in a little Zep and U2 with a mild Southern flavor and some deep, thoughtful lyrics and you got it!
