Loyal Alliance.......2007-06-03
I can't really say that I've been a chillout music-goer for a long time though I've always enjoyed the music not knowing what genre it is. I've already purchased two titles (2): Sub-Zero Collection & Chillout Lounge Vol. 1 and have fallen for them both. Trust in WATER MUSIC RECORDS and know that you won't be disappointed.
Omigod: Sexy, Flawless, Must have if you are into chill!.......2005-12-30
Oh, what can I say but excellent deep sexy music from deep and sexy musicians. Some of these artists I have not heard of but I will be looking for more from them. This is an excellent compilation of chill music. I would go as far as to say it is a must have. This cd covers what you need for dancing, chilling, making love or watching the stars lying on a blanket at night.
Kewl!
An ultra-chilled collection from Water Music.......2004-01-30
"Sub Zero" contains two CDs of some of the best in ambient/chill-out/electronica. These tracks, many un-released and hard-to-find, come from an amazing array of internationl artists including Goldfrapp, Gotan Project, Trnce Vision Steppers and Amadeus Tapioka.
The first CD is titled "Fahrenheit" and contains more upbeat tunes, such as "Utopia" by Goldfrapp, "Glide" by Afterlife, "Last Tango in Paris" by Gotan Project and "Foto Viva" by Mo' Horizons. CD two is titled "Centigrade" and contains the more mellow, chill out grooves. Some of the best on this CD are "Opium" by Moodswings, "Carpe Noctem" by Pulsar Bleu, and "Heaven" by Electric Skychruch.
This is a great collection for anyone who's already into ambient/chill out music or for those wanting to get a taste of it.
Sub Zero is ultra chilled and quite essential.......2003-06-18
After getting into the electronica/chill out/trip-hop/downtempo genre with CD's from bands like Zero 7 and Herbert,I started to purchase many "Chill-Out" CD's. Now, with over 20 CD's in under a year and from many different sources, I have to say that Sub Zero really caught my ear. Amadeus Tapioca is simply amazing with his beats that keep dancing along, while songs like Electric Skychurch from Heaven are really catchy tunes. This CD is actually 2 CD's in one. One CD has songs you can dance to, while another CD is more for just listening and chilling. If you like Electronica at all, get this CD. You will not be disappointed. Now if only the DJ's in the Sacramento clubs would get wise to this music : )
SUB-ZERO IS NICE NICE, BABY!!!.......2003-03-04
When I first saw "Sub Zero", I was like: "Not another compilation CD from Water Music Records! Dang, How many do they have out?" Anyway, I had the cash in my pocket and being the avid music fan that I am, I bought the CD, rationalizing on the way to the register why I needed it. "It says "The Essential Chill Out Collection," so of course I need it!" Then I read where it said "Sub Zero" was full of pereviously unreleased tracks and rare imports. More reason for me to buy the CD, not to mention the myriad of artists on the compilation that I had never heard of before. I love variety and this CD would be perfect in my collection. My one problem with the CD is the ubiquitous "Utopia" which seems to be on every comp CD I buy. Enough already! At least they did remix the song, which was a delight, but I'm still tired of hearing it. Also, Gotan Project is another group I am tired of seeing on comp CDs...but at least they didn't put "Epoca" on this one. If I see that song one more time...
With that said, I would love to hear more from outstanding artists like P.F.L., E.D. Swangz, Amadeus Tapioka, Mo' Horizons and France & Dom...They have really killer tracks on "Sub Zero" that are sure to get you movin' and pressing the repeat button on your CD player over and over! All in all, truly an "Essential Chill Out CD" to own!

A "What's Chill?" Sampler.......2006-12-30
There are several tricks to making any kind of compilation album, especially when that compilation is intended to center around a particular mood or genre. This double-disc set contains roughly two and a half hours of music, not much of it "chill" per se.
Even given a record set that doesn't hit the theme on the nose, I would score extra points for consistency. Although most of these songs are, in their own right, certainly worth a listen, the overall effect is uneven and miscalculated. It's as if four different people with five different concepts of "cool" worked on gathering these twenty-six songs together.
There are a few songs that, by now, have become classic chill mainstays (Lamb's "Transfatty Acid," Groove Armada's "Inside My Mind," and, of course, "Lebanese Blonde," by Thievery Corporation), and there are a few lesser known standouts (Kinobe's "Skyscraper" and "Blue Room" by The Orb), but there are also more than a few sore thumbs sticking out of this group. "Dusted," the collaborative effort by Leftfield and Roots Manuva is a great trip-hop recording, but it has no place on a "chill" album. Likewise with "Dirge," an electro-dreamy, heavy hitter by Death In Vegas.
Even inconsistency could be forgiven if the songs were arranged in such a way as to SUGGEST consistency, as opposed to highlighting the discrepancies between the tunes. Unfortunately, this set fails on that count as well. It's worth a buy if you're interested in expanding your record collection, since there are quite a few good songs here. But if you do buy this album, instead of listening to the CDs straight through (as one would normally do with "chill-out" records), I'd recommend sampling from the track list to make your own chill mix. You'll probably be much more successful than the creators of these discs.
Dig this vibe.......2001-03-06
I heard this at a friend's dinner party last weekend and was impressed. As a DJ I probably wouldn't buy it, as I already have most of these tracks already, but it's a good buy for those trying to improve their collections of downtempo, trip-hop, and future jazz. Although I don't think it's strictly a "chill out" compilation, with its inclusion of a few heavy, more danceable tracks, most of the material here sets a nice, mellow vibe for just hanging at the crib, enjoying some wine and having a good, laidback time with a few friends.
Jungle Beats.......2001-02-18
Three minute congo drum instrumentals do not put me in a "Blissed Out Mood", but they may for someone else. This is more for a Portishead fan who likes heavy beats and drums over anything else. If you lean toward rap, drum & bass, enjoy Nightmares On Wax's newer sound over the old, and need to relax, check this out. It's a good compillation (not mixed), with artists who I usually like (Alex Gopher, Thievery Corp, Tim Love Lee, Truby Trio, etc.) but it's like taking all my least favorites and making a double CD out of them. At the same time, if you're into melancholy vocals, and African beat meets trip hop, this is the place.

Customer Reviews:
TERRIBLE !!!.......2002-06-18
Be warned that this is NOT a downtempo compilation!!!
Moby's "Porcelain", starting the first cd, is good,
the rest of the album REALLY bad.
The album is filled with stuff OTHER than "chillout",
new-agey tunes, jazzy tunes, at least three boring relaxation
music tunes with little birdies chirping in the forest, lots of
elevator music, and even a really unnerving, edgy techno tune,
starting the second cd!
DON'T buy it: you'd regret it!
