Album Description
Waxing Deep Records is pleased to announce the first ever compilation of Cuban funk: Si, Para Usted: The Funky Beats of Revolutionary Cuba, Volume One. An unprecedented combination of socialism and artistic freedom flourished during the mid-years of Castro's Cuba, enabling musicians to create an innovative body of music based on traditional styles like those made famous by the Buena Vista Social Club. Si, Para Usted captures the spirit of this time. The music ranges from son, beat, jazz, and funk, and abounds with psychedelic influences, electronic experimentation, and a heavy dose of soul. Communist funk may seem unlikely, but here it is. Si, Para Usted was lovingly compiled by Dan Zacks of Waxing Deep Radio in response to massive listener demand for the Cuban music played on the show. Outside of the Waxing Deep archive, the bulk of funky Cuban music is virtually unobtainable. Cuban recordings were never widely distributed and few have been reissued. Utterly committed to sharing good music, Dan took it upon himself to make these fantastic tracks more widely accessible. Almost all of the tracks were re-mastered from the original tapes kept by the Cuban government in a dusty Havana warehouse. Given the poor quality of Cuban vinyl, this means the music on Si, Para Usted has a quality of sound previously unavailable. Quite simply, the music has never sounded this good.

Customer Reviews:
Best Anjunabeats I Have Heard.......2007-06-06
I got Vol 2 & 3 and I must say that this is the best one so far. It is utterly fantanstic. I got it because other people on Amazon recommended it and I got to admit, this is utterly the best Anjunabeats I have heard. Every track is good. It is not like Vol 2 where I was listening to Taurine, Kallocain, and Cre8 again and again without much regard for the rest of the album. Vol 4 is like one continuous good, wonderful, uplifting, beautiful, perfect piece of progressive trance. This is a true keeper. After 10 years, when I look back on the Summer of 2007, I know I will first remember this album, it is just that good.
I am ordering Anjunabeats, Vol 5 and the Worldwide Vol 1 immediately! Others are saying they are even better than Vol 4. If that is true, this is going to be the best Summer for Trance in a long time!!!!
Buy this! It is worth it! Just buy it already! I wake up at 4 am just to listen to this album 3 times before going to work! It is that good!!!!
Awesome.......2007-05-07
It may not have a lot of vocals to it, but the beats are fricken awesome. I especially love that song "North Pole" track 8; I only wish it was longer.
By far the best volume.......2007-04-02
This is by far the best volume of the Anjunabeats series. Not that the first three volumes are bad, on the contrary, they are great too. But Above & Beyond have definitely put together a great compilation here. Highly recommended!
Good, Deep, Melodic Trance.......2006-12-11
Above and Beyond is an unknown beauty in trance. The fusion of euphoric melody, deep bass lines, and playful beats sets this talented duo apart from most other trance DJ's. Ajunabeats Vol. 4 is a tremendous addition to an already fantastic volume of music promoted by Above and Beyond, and truly sets the standard for innovative trance.
The music develops energetically throughout the set, slowly mounting into a fascinating soundscape; one that is full of elation and wonder. From its beginning to end you get lost in a reminiscent daydream, wondering if the next track will be as beautiful as the last. I was never disappointed.
I highly recommend this album, along with Above and Beyond's other releases, to people who listen for the emotional beauty of music. There is musical genius hidden in every track; and for that simple reason alone, it is quite an album to own.
A Must Buy Trance Album!.......2006-12-06
By far the best of the Anjunabeats series. A&B bring a lot of great beats and energy to this album while keeping to their Trance roots. A great listen front to back for any Trance fan.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent compilation for fans of Above & beyond........2007-02-02
This was an album i stumbled across, but bought it as soon as i saw it was from Anjunabeats. They are responsible for Above & Beyond, and in my opinion push new artists more than any other dance label. The main difference is the quality of every track they decide to put onto each album. There never seems to be any filler tracks, just quality dance tracks. If you like Above & Beyond, but have all their albums and are looking for something new along those lines, this double disc is perfect. Disc 2 is really amazing from a Dj you will definately hear more from. Mark Pledger.
You can't go wrong with Anjunabeats!.......2007-01-28
I was just recently introduced to the Anjunabeats label and since then I have ordered Volume Three, Volume Four, and Tri-State in their first series, and now Volume One in their Worldwide series. IMHO this is one of the best labels in trance today, and as I said in the title line, you can't go wrong with these trance compilations.
If I were to rate the CDs individually, I would give CD1 4 stars and CD2 4 1/2 stars. CD1 started out with a house track followed by a techno track that didn't appeal to me. It did have some excellent standouts, namely "Year Zero" (by Andy Moor), "World On Fire" (by Above & Beyond), "Child" (by Daniel Kandi), "Won't Sleep Tonight" (by Super8 & Tab), and "Untitled Audio" (by Mike Koglin vs. P.O.S.), and a stunning closer in "Blue Bird" (by Sunny Lax).
CD2 was a notch better, with excellent high energy and melodic trance throughout most of the CD. The only tracks that really disappointed me were the last two, for they were quite "hard," and didn't fit in with the rest of the album. Tracks 1-4 were very good, followed by 2 mediocre numbers, and then starting with track 7 we are treated to a string of 6 tracks that defy description; they are soooo good. I just loved Robert Nickson's remix of Above & Beyond's "Tri-State" (it was much more energetic than the original mix). When the piano kicks in one is reminded of Robert Miles' immortal hit "Children." This track is followed by Mark Pledger's "On The Edge," a very refreshing number, and the energy continues to build with more "ear candy" on tracks 9-12. Again, it was too bad Mr. Pledger chose to end his excellent mix with 2 "hard" trancers that didn't jibe with the previous tracks, but I will forgive him because of the smile he brought to my face up to that point.

Album Description
Anjunabeats is the UK's fastest growing indie dance label and home to acclaimed producers/DJs Above and Beyond. Anjunabeats were formed in the summer of 1999 with the first hit Anjunabeats Volume One. It was a massive club success with support from Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold and Paul van Dyk.
Above and Beyond are behind the decks once again for Anjunabeats Volume Two. The mix begins with the deep, progressive and tech end of the trance sound, then takes things up a notch with a first class selection of big room anthems, climaxing with their hypnotic single "Surrender."
Customer Reviews:
amazing trance comp.......2007-01-29
The track Endre- I kill for you (probspot remix) is worth the price of this CD alone. Simply an amazing track by a young producer.
Great Song Selection.......2006-05-25
I have this and Volume 3. The song selection on them both is great. If you love, or even like, trance, then these are a must-have. The track "No One on Earth"...worth the cost of the CD. Definitely one of my favorite trance tracks of all time. The vocals are amazing. Gabriel and Dresden (although they suck "live") have created an incredible remix here, as so many of theirs are.
The mixing on this CD is done quite well, although sometimes the beats from the mixing-in track were a bit strong. I really like the mix between Connected and Taurine...very smooth. The next mix is just as good.
I did not, however, like the song order between Circuits and Believe. Circuits is very "strong", but Believe is very "mellow". I would not have put the two back-to-back.
I want to be taken on a journey when I listen to a mix CD. My only criticism of this disc is that I was not. All the songs are good, but the production was lacking.
Overall I give the disc 4 stars.
another great trance mix.......2005-08-30
just hearing all the reviews on all the sites..(amazon,ebay..etc) made me anxious to get this album. from all the times that i ordered from amazon, they never once let me down on quality and time.
anyways, A&B are always great no exceptions to this album flows really well nice mix of tranquil vs. smooth bass-loving themes...don't miss out on a great mix
No One On Earth.......2005-02-05
No One On Earth - Above and Beyond featuring Zoe Johnston, Gabriel and Dresden Mix is the best track on the album. The mixing is fabulous! Well done Above and Beyond!
Never disappointments!.......2005-01-24
As someone who has followed their music and label for some time, Anjunabeats Volume 2 is a good look at one of the great bastions of trance. This demonstrates the strength and talent of the label and I will definitely be a loyal follower for a long time yet! Anjunabeats Volume 1 is also fantastic...get them both!

A most have for all Old School Guys and Gals. All the hits on one CD. Only missing "The Smurf" by Tyrone Brunson. Get it today!!!!!
Beat! Beat! Beat!.......2001-07-28
I recently purchased this CD while looking for a compilation that included "Set it Off" by Strafe. I thought I might find one but that "Set it Off" would be the only good song on it. Luckily by chance I came across this CD. Every song is a great one. Classic "old school" is what this is all about. This has 13 songs some more popular than others but all heed the call to when some party-goer yelled out Can I Get A Beat? These songs are the granddaddy of today's rap and hip-hop but are worth every ounce of respect they get when they are still played at a party, in the schoolyard or someone cranking it out the car window.
It's Da Bomb.......1999-04-12
Go out and buy this CD RIGHT NOW!!! I picked it up in Florida and it's one of my all-time most reliable funk CDs.

HIGH QUALITY WORLD MUSIC AT A GIVE AWAY PRICE!!!.......2004-06-22
I was shocked by the price of this CD and thought that this would be a bunch of recycled garbage or songs that were thrown together by some mixer just to make a CD. Contrary to my opinion, it wasn't! Palm Beats Volume 1 is an incredible compilation of world, dub, breakbeat and house music that is sure to satisfy all fans of those genre! This one will definitely be a hit for the summer and all those pool parties--and you really can't beat the price. Songs of note are from Polaris, Sidestepper and Baaba Mal! Highly recommended!
cool groove international beats.......2004-06-11
A compilation of nicely remixed groove tracks from around the globe. From Jamaica's rhythm kings Sly & Robbie, to Algeria's Gigi, to Sidestepper (my personal favorite) from Columbia. Much more than "a sample of ethnicity" with break beats,
all tunes have an organic flow--difficult to achieve for basically computer generated electronica. All tracks feature mature musicianship and polish without being slick.
All in all, a good sample of hip World Beats.

A Freestyle Collection Must-Have.......1998-08-11
This disc is the sixth of a 10-disc series that is the definitive collection of Freestyle music. The series features a variety of songs from the most popular artists of the genre, including many hard-to-find classics. All discs include comprehensive liner notes charting the history of Freestyle music. A must-have collection for anyone interested in dance music from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s.
Disc Six Highlights: "Don't Stop Now" by The Cover Girls is a rarity on CD. This volume also introduces the "new school" sound with "Together Forever" by Lisette Melendez and "Temptation" by Corina (the only Freestyle song to hit #1 on Billboards Top 100). George Lamond, the King of Freestyle, is featured twice on this issue, including the outstanding "Without You."
This volume also contains classics by Coro, TKA, Noel, Nyasia, Sweet Sensation, and more.

This is another disc in the 10-volume history of the music known as freestyle or "Latin hip-hop." The entire collection forms a comprehensive history, and every disc has its merits. Volume 5 is set apart first and foremost by "Dreamboy/Dreamgirl," an ode performed by Cynthia and Johnny O that raises romantic passion and devotion to a nearly religious pitch. At the opposite end of the spectrum, but just as memorable, is Sa-Fire's "Love Is on Her Mind," the bitchiest catfight anthem this side of Vanity 6's "If a Girl Answers (Don't Hang Up)." As a special bonus, the set is kicked off with George Lamond's massive "Bad of the Heart." --John Sanchez

Incredible... Anyone that wants to revive those old feelings of 80's club music, this is a must have! Filled with many songs that I had forgotten about. I purchased the entire collection. If you like that whole "Stevie B, Rick Astley (even though he's not on it) era", Then I would highly recommend this collection!
A Freestyle Collection Must-Have.......1998-08-11
This disc is the fifth of a 10-disc series that is the definitive collection of Freestyle music. The series features a variety of songs from the most popular artists of the genre, including many hard-to-find classics. All discs include comprehensive liner notes charting the history of Freestyle music. A must-have collection for anyone interested in dance music from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s.
Disc Five Highlights: George Lamond first appears on this series with the classic "Bad of The Heart." Also, Pajama Party appear with their "Miami-sound" classic "Yo No Sé" and Cynthia and Johnny O team up for the very popular "Dreamboy/Dreamgirl" duet. A rare find is Eileen Flores' "Touch Me With Your Heart."
This volume also contains classics by The Cover Girls, TKA, Sa-Fire, Coro, Tony Moran (of The Latin Rascals) Sweet Sensation, Tiana, and more.

This compilation, offered by LA's Urb Magazine, is only deceptively straightforward: it explores the current state of electronica, with dance-floor stalwarts DJ Icey, Uberzone, and Rabbit in the Moon butting heads with neo-pop stars like the Crystal Method, Goldie, and Portishead. One might suspect this to be yet another cash-in "electronica" compilation, a mere licensing scheme intended to separate you from the contents of your wallet. But this ain't no scam: not only is the track selection topnotch and accessible, with an equal dose of well-known hits and underappreciated gems, but the compilation also offers an entertaining education. On disc two, New York's Liquid Todd throws down a set of classics, tracks like Rhythim Is Rhythim's "Strings of Life," Orbital's "Chime," and Dubtribe's "Mother Earth," giving an insight as to what today's electronica stars were hearing whilst in their nappies. As an introduction to the overhyped and confusing world of "electronica," this compilation can't be beat. --Matthew Corwine

Good "past and present" collection........2003-09-08
No collection will ever be perfect, but this does a decent job. The first disc is what's supposed to be hot (in 98). The second is supposed to be some old school classics. Some well known artists are on here like "Prodigy", "Moby", and "Portishead". My favorite thing by far is some of who's sampled on different tracks. Samples from "Bad Brains", "Kate Bush", "The Verve", and the theme from "Twin Peaks". Overall a good comp. The 1st "Urbal Beats" is good too. Pretty much electronica's greatest hits.
This is a pointless review.. for a pointless album.......2001-07-28
First thing about this album that i must mention right off is that the track slection is horrid. If it wasn't trying to be a "definitive guide to electronic music" it probably wouldn't have been so annoying. Really this "urbal beats" series works well if view together, but the track selection seems wrong in the individual sets. This time around the balance is thrown off by adding too much big beats, jungle, and trip hop. Three styles that do come from the same influences. Giving the whole album a lack of diversity. Digital empire 2 does diversity so much better. Another issue is the repetition of the same groups and groups that are seen together all the time.. I mean we have an original prodigy song, a remix of a prodigy song and a song prodigy remixed? is this the "definitve guide to prodigy?" We have a fatboy slim song, and a fat boy slim remix. And the whole first disk breaks down to basically 3 different types of related electronica. giving a very bad "definition" of electronica.
The second disk is a half way decent attempt at mixing alot of classic together, but I am getting somewhat sick of hearing old school electronica thats just doesn't hodl up well over time.
I give the album 4 stars since it does have some decent gems on it. But I highy recomend "digital empire 2" over this compilation if your looking to get schooled on the so called "electronica genre"
A letdown.......2000-06-23
This CD was a big letdown.. it was recommended by the person at the record store, looked good, etc. Basically disc 1 was too jungle for me. There are some tunes that are pretty good, but there are some downright angry-feeling ones as well. Temper-temper gave me a headache and "release YO' Delf"--well, you can figure it.
Disc 2 was much better, but still not enough to compell me to repeat the purchase.
Summary: Disc1 1-2 stars, Disc2 3-4 stars
Disc 2 much better.......2000-06-19
There's another review that sums my sentiments exactly. Disc 1 gets 2-3 stars (kind of like a rap with faster beat) But disc 2 is really good; 5 stars)
Start With The First Volume.......2000-06-01
This set is more uneven than the first Urbal Beats, but it still contains more than a few classics of the genre. The two discs contain a lot of music for a good price--I recommend it as a next step if you like the first volume.

Customer Reviews:
A delicious set of some of the best Blue Note jazz........2000-01-17
Want some of the best jazz around--? Budget impaired, like myself? Fortunately, for us, there's this Blue Note Records collection of the best from favorites like Donald Byrd, Lou Donaldson, and Grant Green. Now, the powers that be at EMI-Capitol thought to get some sells of this great jazz by packaging it as a "sample this" offering to hip-hoppers/rap ranconteurs. It turns out that they needn't have done so. The various volumes and the box set with Vols 1-4 has some great work like Bobbi Humphrey's "Harlem River Drive" and Herbie Hancock's "Olilloqui Valley". The music, in other words, can really stand alone...I would urge those interested in sampling to listen to these greats not to lift a groove, but to help themselves in learning how to make their own groove....Dig?
