Absolutely Fantastic!.......2007-01-31

This CD captured the purest essences of the music that electrified dance clubs during the summer and early autumn of 2006. Discoteka, Bodyshaker, Sex Secret, and Ohh La La were all dance floor favorites throughout the year -- and Discoteka was an absolute blockbuster.

Peter Rauhofer, one of the creative forces behind *69 (and Club 69) imparts his style and rhythms on Starkillers' Discoteka and Goldfrapp's Ooh La La (which was previously remixed by both Benny Benassi and Tiefschwarz with very little fanfare or airplay for that matter) in such stark contrast to his remixer/producer peers that these tracks couldn't help but become blockbuster hits.

Then there are charts like like 2raumwohnung's Sex Secret that has a very eery beginning but resolves to a catchy, playful melodic vocal piece. Who ever heard of 2raumwohnung and who knows what that means? All I know is that with Rauhofer's remixing... it sounds HOT!

And of course, who could forget Donna Summer's Power of Love... every time I spin this track, I offer people $5 if they can tell me who the artist is. I haven't spent a single five bill yet... DONNA SUMMER SOUNDS SO FABULOUS IN THIS TRACK. I know it's just a dub... but there are times where teasing with the essence of the vocal while carefully layering clear but complex rhythms (like Rauhofer does in his Power of Dub Mix here) does so much more for the energy of the track (and your dance floor) than just playing the full vocal mix ever could. I was never a fan of dubs until I became a DJ... this is a perfect example of how a dub should be, well... dubbed!

So in short, not that my last diatribe was short at all -- this is a fantastic CD. Buy it and hide it from your friends... because they'll want to snatch it from you the minute they hear it!

this is a great dance cd. the diskoteka track and hotdogs are the highlights.

Worth it for Donna Summer---but it's only a dub!.......2006-09-19

Much like the "Divas to the Dancefloor" series, this compilation, which is predominantly tribal and electro house mixes, is not a "mixed" CD. However, while these are all full length mixes, they also don't end clean, because each track is attached to the track before and after it, sometimes with a hint of overlap. Not really anything to get bent out of shape over though, especially when you have an official release of a rare Donna Summer remix. Tragically, Rauhofer's mix is NOT full vocal, predominantly just repetition of the chorus from this song off the Luther Vandross tribute CD. So, with a really lame Hani mix as a promo 12", and now this dub, the song still hasn't been given a standout full vocal mix. But still a necessity for collectors. Meanwhile, many of the other tracks on here had official CD single releases, so it really isn't filled with many rareties, although the Rauhofer mix of Goldfrapp is another rarety that is a good one for collectors. Essential Purcell compositions.......2004-10-07

According to the liner notes, this first volume contains works that span throughout the whole (short) career of Purcell. Even his earliest anthems written when he was a teenager demonstrate that he was a genious from the beginning. The King Purcell demonstrates a composer at the same level as Bach in talent and depth.
The performances could not be bettered. The singers, choir and orchestra bring their all to these pieces.
The 11 volumes are expensive but really belong in every classical music lover's collection. Buy as many as you can afford.

While some of the works are superior to others the entire set is great in the realm of production. Mostly all of these pieces are just superb and if you are someone who enjoys English Baroque then you absolutely MUST purchase these cds. If you enjoy complex, melancholic or heroic music then I urge you to purchase this cd and the rest of the volumes in the set...you won't be disappointed.

Strong tracklist, poor mixing.......2005-11-14

There are some great dance songs on this cd ('As The Rush Comes', 'Rie Y Lora' probably the most notable), but the mixing really lets this cd down.

While the beat is maintained, I wasn't overly happy with the way each song was merged into the next. Certainly not as good as other DJ's have done it.

The other point removing a star was a shocking addition of "Party 93.1" spoken voiceover throughout the cd, as if this was a radio broadcast itself. I have never seen this done, nor do I want to see it again!

So, high energy dance album, good for the gym perhaps, but not as good as other offerings out there. If you can get it cheaply, it may be worth a look.

Ahh without the generics of dance..........2004-11-25

Ok so this album loses a star right off the bat for being called "Club Anthems" when some of the songs are just too new to tell.

Now, what we've got here is a collection of new, and recently remixed, dance and house songs. The mixing isn't horrible, and the song selection is fun and funky.

I do have a couple issues, which are:

1. "Make Your Move" is too exciting a song to be so short.
2. "Da Hype"...well...after it was over, I didn't remember what it sounded like.
3. "California Dreamin'" is both too short and badly mixed into "As The Rush Comes". Although...it's hard to mix anything into "As The Rush Comes". Oh well.

Overall, it's fun. It's saving grace lies in a few songs. "I Like It", "Pump It Up", and the amazing Armand Van Helden remix of Nelly Furtado's "Forca".

If you like a good groove while you're driving, or browsing the net, give this disc a try.
