Welcome to Ralph's World represents indie-minded musical magician Ralph Covert's leap to the bigs--the bigs, in the kids' game, meaning Disney. Worry not, though, Ralph fans: instead of steering the world-class story spinner behind such all-ages gems as "Kid Astro" and "Old Red No. 7" in a clumsy corporate direction, the label elected to distill 16 of his best and brightest tracks from the six previous Ralph's World discs. Thus we're essentially treated to a greatest-hits package: "Surfin' in My Imagination," "At the Bottom of the Sea," "Sunny Day Rainy Day Anytime Band," and "The Coffee Song" all make the cut, and they're as zippy-joyful-plucky as ever. A few future classics--"We Are Ants" and "What Can You Do with Your Baby Brother"--are left off, but time won't rub the sheen off them; they'll just become something for new fans to eventually "discover." Because this wouldn't be a Disney disc without a bonus, Welcome also packs a multimedia one-two punch: six danceable, throw-your-hands-up videos dot disc two. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars Ralph's World.......2007-07-23

If your children enjoy Ralph's music, this is a good CD/DVD combo. I gave it 4 stars only because I wish it had a few more songs on it. The music on Ralph's World is very easy for parents to listen to.........does not get annoying like some children's music.

5 out of 5 stars My kids love this CD/DVD!.......2007-07-14

This is a great value because you get the CD plus the bonus DVD. My kids love the songs and dancing to the music. The DVD is one of their favorites. The songs are cute for the kids and definitely more "grown-up friendly" than some other children's performers.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2007-06-24

Having seen Ralph's World clips on the Disney Channel, I decided to give this cd/dvd a go. As soon as I popped the dvd in, both my children were mesmerized. My one year old stared through the first two songs (she doesn't care for tv usually) then hopped up and started bouncing and dancing. My four year old made me repeat the dvd 4 times! The songs are catchy and fun without being annoying. My husband and I catch ourselves singing the songs even when we aren't listening to them. My only complaint is that I wish the dvd was longer. The cd is nice to listen to at home or in the car, and I can listen to every song unlike many other children's cd's I own. This is a great buy!

2 out of 5 stars nice song-writing, but the voice?..........2007-06-07

Too bad talented song-writers don't always recognize that their voice / singing do not do their songs the best justice. Whenever we play this, someone loses it and turns it off within two songs. It's just that annoying. Too bad, the songs are really good.

5 out of 5 stars Kids love this guy.......2007-05-21

This cd surpasses baby einstein with regards to attention. kids seem to be drawn to this singer - we have this on most days of the week and our daughter dances to it.

He is erratic, moody, adolescent, and unsettling, just as he is strikingly brilliant, and all depictions entwine on this collection that plucks from Daniel Johnston's most memorable work throughout a quarter-century of bare-bones recording. While his helium-pitched voice can often border on acquired taste territory, Johnston, who suffers from bipolar disorder, writes both gripping melodies and cutting, cunning lyrics--often about failed love, life's ambiguity and his passion for the Beatles and comic book heroes. Any Johnston follower might choose 21 different selections to represent such a catalog, but this package--culled mostly from his '80s songbook--is both symbolic and inclusive, including a pair of chord organ grinders that are among his most familiar: the childlike "Casper the Friendly Ghost" and the wistful "Speeding Motorcycle." Johnston's raw vulnerability shines most on "Never Before Never Again," on which he howls about a former girlfriend, and the fragmented and demented "Funeral Home," where he contemplates his last car ride (to the tune of Bruce Springsteen's "Cadillac Ranch"). Welcome to My World is ideal for any newcomers to Johnston's music, provided they are willing to peel away his torment and contemplate his true genius. --Scott Holter

4 out of 5 stars Perfect entry for the genius of Daniel.......2006-09-22

Almost every song from this compiliation is present as soundtrack to The Devil and Daniel Johnston. If you want to enter in thsi strange but beautiful world, a schizo Dylan that someday took LSD from the devilish [....] Surfers, this is the one to get. Then, if you become a fan (it happens, eheh), you should try his masterpiece - Songs of Pain 80-83.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Companion for "The Devil and Daniel Johnston".......2006-05-16

It should first be noted that the music of Daniel Johnston is not for everyone -- you will either love him or hate him, most will feel the latter. His voice sounds like a 14 year old who got into the parents' liquor cabinet, but like Bob Dylan, it's the perfect vehicle for his material. I recommend the excellent documentary currently playing in art movie theaters to learn about this unique singer songwriter's incredible life --you couldn't make up a story as sadly surreal. His music is best appreciated if you understand his history and are familiar with his artwork (his pen and ink cartoon-like drawings go for thousands of dollars). His songs, like his artwork, are replete with symbols and references to his internal mythology, a conglomeration of cartoons, comic books and fire and brimstone religion.
Welcome to My World is sort of a greatest hits of his early work, mostly recorded on cheap tape machines and often given away to people on the street. Daniel bares his soul -- listening to his music is like awkwardly being trapped with a stranger you run into, obviously a little off center, who rattles on providing too much information about his innermost feelings. But no other artist I have heard captures the angst of adolescence quite as well as Daniel, and his sense of melody, his ability to convey complex feelings with the simplest language, is brilliant. Strange, moving, disturbing stuff, an emotional car wreck that you just can't look away from. If you like the off beat and stark emotional honesty in your music, check him out.

Artists include David and Steve Gordon, Gingko Garden, Althea W., Jaya Lakshmi, Artemisia and others. This is a great album for anyone looking for music that is mellow and cerebral - it is perfect for chilling out to."

Smooth, sensous, soothing, and sultry. A couple of cuts a little on the "loungy" side but overall this is an excellent CD that delivers exactly what you would expect from the title. The quality of this stuff is definitely a cut above a lot of the other budda-lounge wannabes.

5 out of 5 stars A maverick New Age/Eastern hybrid classic!.......2005-03-25

I am absolutely taken into the beauty and harmony that is the album "Hotel Tara". I first heard this at an independent CD store recently and after finding out who it was, I instantly bought the new album and I am proud of my choice of buying it. This album reminds me very strongly of the Earthtone collection series from years ago. After the apparent and unfortunate demise of the Earthtone label, Sequoia Records seems to have taken the torch and "Hotel Tara" is a powerful CD. "Apollo 13" is a highly eclectic track that incorporates voice effects of a NASA space mission with a gorgeous jazz/New Age groove. "Govinda Hari" is an electrifying song with haunting Eastern Indian voices and a very entrancing melody. This is such a wonderful CD and I highly recommend this.

5 out of 5 stars Blissful Eastern Chill.......2005-03-10

Nothing less than superb ! This new titles from Sequoia Groove is a blissful voyage into the very best of Eastern influenced downtempo chill-out music. A provacative follow up to Sequoia's Buddha Lounge series. This album really transports the listener into some very exoctic and sensuous musical landscapes. I especially love the Jaya Lakshmi track "Govinda Hari" and "Apollo 13" by Joe Werineck which incorporates actual original recordings from the space mission into a lushly textured background of slow and sultry electonica. This is a great addition to any downtempo musical collection. If you like, Buddha Bar or Hotel De Costa you will love Hotel Tara.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Music for Sacred Lovers.......2005-02-10

David & Steve Gordon have done it again ! Just when you thought it could'nt get any better, these musical visionaries deepen the mix even further. Hotel Tara bills itself as "The Intimate Side of Buddha Lounge" and it certainly delivers on that promise. This is an exotic and enticing blend of traditional Eastern music with the very best that Western downtempo-electronica has to offer, featuring an superlative assortment of the very best Sequoia artists and some absolutely alluring new artists. Likely the most noteable being the lead track "L'Heure Verte/The Green Hour"from Artemisia, the new Steve Gordon solo project with it's distinctive tabla beat, exquisite tamboura, sensuous guitar and luminous vocals provided by Jaya Lakshmi whose "Govinda Hari" also graces the album. David Gordon's new solo track "Floating" is also fantastic, melding chill-out and smooth jazz effortlessly into this delightfully transcendent tune. My wife and I have now found our new favorite CD for our intimate encounters and Tantra sessions. These Sequoia Groove titles just keep getting better and better and this one is perfect suited for the the Sacred Lover. Keep them coming. Absolutely delightful.

4 out of 5 stars Great buy.......2007-07-09

This cd is one of the best cd's I've ever heard. Timbaland's beats cant be replaced, magoo's gritty voice and timabland's hooks are great together. Mix in ginuine, missy, playa, and aaliyah...and the album is complete. My favorite songs are Man Undercover (by Aaliyah), Up jumps the Boogie Remix, Smoke In The Air (Playa) and Joy (Playa and Ginuwine.) This album is definitly worth your money. I love it!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Foundation.......2007-02-27

From the hypnotizing charm to the raw lyrics this cd is SOLID. It's got staying power and demands respect from your ears...I am SO glad I finally got my own copy!

5 out of 5 stars One of Hip Hop's Most Innovative Albums...a landmark production.......2005-09-11

Back in 1997, Timbaland and Magoo came out with their classic cd, Welcome to our World. The reason that makes this one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time, is the creative production. Timbaland created beats that no one has ever heard anything like before. His use of off-beat off-drum patterns alond with funky keyboards, synths and guitar licks, made this joint out of VA a straight up classic. Also, a lot of people didn't like Magoo's flow or lyrics, but Magoo is one of the most creative emcee's out there. His flow and use of creative worldplay and punchlines makes him a dangerous emcee on the mic. Alot of mc's out there couldnt touch Magoo. Great lrycism and production of a timeless classic in hip hop.

5 out of 5 stars Love the 'Up Jumps' Remix..........2004-09-08

...actually the stripped down version of the original with a cricket chirping rhythm, a deconstructed Rod Temperton keyboard riff, an offal spouting Magoo, a sober Timbaland and a 'gone-you-don't-know-gone-you-don't-know' Missy. Partiable today. Magic still.

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Hip Hop Albums Of All Time.......2003-09-01

This album is so innovative and precisely produced. With beats provided by Mozart Timadeas (my favorite producer), vocals by Magoo, Missy, Playa, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, this album is a 5 out of 5. At first listen you'll be like what the heck is this, but for sure after the first listen of the whole album you'll be hooked to it. From the first track to the last. You have hip hop and R&B throughout this entire album. When you listen to the album you will notice that they were ahead of their time. After listening to the album I thought, damn, "These cats were on some tight stuff back in '97", and indeed they were. I am telling you this is one of the most creative albums ever. There is a track on the album where Timbaland just talks over the beat and you actually rock to it. I love the whole album, but my favorite tracks are Luv 2 Luv U ( both versions ), Up Jumps The Boogie ( both versions ), Joy, Man Undercover, Clock Strikes. I am a true Timbaland fan, I am down with him and the whole click, holla at ya boy!

5 out of 5 stars WELCOME to Daniel's World.....WOW.......2007-01-06

Having grown up as a fan of Gentleman Jim, I have to agree that Gentleman Daniel has come along to do great renditions of Jim Reeves' music. Daniel's version of Welcome to My World is fabulous, that velvety quality and smoothness that is so reminescent of when Jim sang it. Daniel does a wonderful job of paying tribute to a man who obviously inspired him a lot when he was growing up in Ireland.
Thanks for a great album!

5 out of 5 stars A magnificent tribute to Gentleman Jim.......2006-11-09

While Daniel has been successful with up-tempo material, I have always preferred him as balladeer - he seems particularly suited to romantic love songs. In particular, I always considered Daniel as a latter-day Jim Reeves, so I was very pleased to see Daniel release this collection of songs made famous by his most obvious influence. I was also pleased to see that Daniel focused on the ballads that he is so good at singing.

In his own career, tragically cut short when he was killed in a plane crash, Jim Reeves had many hits in Britain, which were often different from the hits he had in America. For this tribute album, Daniel has chosen to record many of Jim's biggest British hits.

Here you can listen to Daniel singing his own version's of Jim's British top ten hits - Welcome to my world, I love you because, I won't forget you, There's a heartache following me, It hurts so much and, of course, Distant drums, with which Jim had a posthumous number one hit. Other classics such as Adios Amigo, He'll have to go, You're the only good thing, When two worlds collide and Not until the next time (all of which made the UK top twenty for Jim) are also included.

Daniel has not limited himself to UK hits, but has also included some other fine songs such as Anna Marie, Am I losing you, Blue side of lonesome, Don't let me cross over and How can I write on paper - every one of them well chosen, as they particularly suit Daniel's style.

It is futile to debate the relative merits of Daniel's versions compared to Jim's. As far as I'm concerned, Jim is unbeatable - at least when it comes to his later recordings (from which most of the songs here are selected), but his music will only survive for future generations if artists such as Daniel keep it alive. There will be some people who will buy their first Jim Reeves album because they like this tribute album, and who might never have done so otherwise. What I will say is that there is no singer anywhere is the world who is better suited to doing an album of Jim Reeves songs than Daniel O'Donnell. This album is proof of that.

This magnificent tribute should appeal to existing fans of Jim and Daniel alike. It might even bring them a few new fans who previously didn't take much notice of either of them.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the World of Danny O'Donnell.......2006-07-06

I happened to see Danny on PBS and thought the show was pretty good so I started checking into his music, I have purchased many CD's and play them at my office, everyone who comes in wants to know who that is!. So they are all getting Danny CD's for Christmas. Can't wait to get to Branson to see him live. Listening to his voice is so soothing and relaxing and when he sings Danny Boy, nothing better.

5 out of 5 stars Daniel Does Great Singing Jim Reeves.......2006-04-26

I was born 2 years after the plane crash, but grew up listening to his and other country music. Daniel O'Donnell does a great job in his singing of Jim Reeves songs. I really enjoy them!

5 out of 5 stars Welcome To The Real World...Mr Mister.......2006-09-04

Every song on this album is excellent and in keeping with the other tracks. I don't think it matters what order you listen to them (I have this version but the British issue has the songs in a different order)) Every song could have been a hit so its easy to see why this album was so sucessful in the 80s.
Its very well done in a very American 80s pop/rock way. The lyrics also seem to be heartfelt and interesting and Richard Page matches that with a great range.

Black/White
The opening song draws you in immediately with the powerfull synths and drums and lets you know whats in store. Everything about this song is punchy!
The Uniform of Youth
This one has great drums and succeeds in being defiant.
Don't Slow Down
This is arranged so well and pashionately sung
Run To Her
This has a dream like feel to it and a nice contrast to the song before. This love song could have been a hit.
Into My Own Hands
Driving, very spirited and about taking control of your own life
Is It Love
This song is also very driving and desperately sung which suits the lyrics to the core; asking the girl if she feels the same way.
Kyrie
No, not 'carry a laser' as it turns out! A great rock song.
Broken Wings
It is easy to see why Broken Wings was such a hit. It conveys a sense of freedom and the will to mend a broken relationship. It is also very well arranged with just the right amount of synth.
Tangent Tears
This has a softer sound to it, a nice pop song about unrequited love.
Welcome To The Real World
The titled track builds into a dramtic chorus, welcoming one that has just been born to the 'real world'. Good ending too.

Sorry, but there is not that much that's bad about this album so get it if you want it!

5 out of 5 stars Listen To The Non-Hit Gems.......2006-08-04

I bought this album released in 1985 because of super hits BROKEN WINGS and KYRIE but after listening to the whole album more and more songs on the album captivated me. First pick is RUN TO HER well-structured slow moody ballad which could have been another hit. Techno-pop styled UNIFORM OF YOUTH and DON'T SLOW DOWN are also the album highlight of the first half. On the whole the album direction is somewhat between SURVIVOR/STARSHIP catchiness and MIKE&MECHANICS/GENESIS vocal style.

Verdict: Catchy yet deeply melodic masterpiece.
Rating: 96 out of 100
Recommended for: Wide range of mid-80s pop rock fans and particularly if you love Survivor, Starship, Mike and the Mechanics, Trillion, Pride of Lions and Mecca.

5 out of 5 stars Oh Yeah, as Mr. Mister warns you. WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD. BUSTER........2006-03-29

NOW THAT WAS EXTREMLEY FUNNY AND HALARIOUS. I HAVE REALLY NEVER READ SUCH TRASH PUTTING DOWN ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS FROM THE MID-1985 ALBUM, WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD. MEMBERS ARE AS FOLLOWS. RICHARD PAGE...LEAD VOCALIST AND BASS GUITAR. ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS IN THE BUISS. HIS BUDDY,LONG TIME FRIEND ALSO FROM THIRD MATINEE AND PAGES, STEVE GEORGE...KEYBOARDS-SYNTHYSIZERS AND BACKING VOCALS. STEVE FARRIS... LEAD-RYTHUM GUITARS AND BACKING VOCALS. LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST. THE MAN THE MYTH THE ONE AND ONLY AND ALSO FROM THE BAND KING CRIMSON... PAT MASTELOTTO. DRUMS AND PERCUSSION. AND THE BAND IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE... MR.MISTER. NOW MY STORY BEHIND THESE FOUR 80'S MEN WHO TOOK POP-ROCK STORM. I READ A REVIEW ON HERE THAT JUST MADE ME WONDER JUST HOW REDICULOUS THIS PERSON IS. USUALY MY REVIEWS ON HERE ARE PRETTY TAME, TO SAY THE LEAST FOR SOME OF THE CRAZIES THAT ARE ON HERE. BUT WHEN THIS MORON ATTACK MY BAND LIKE THAT AND SHUND AND DE-GENERATED MR.MISTER FOR WHO WE'RE AND WHAT THEY ARE NOW AND ALWAYS WILL BE FOUR OF THE GRACIOUS PEOPLE IN THE BUISS, I HAVE TO WONDER IF HE IS SANE... NO HE HIS NOT. 1 YOU HAVE OBVIOUSLY DON'T KNOW WHAT MUSIC IS REALLY ALL ABOUT, GOOD MUSIC THAT IS. 2 YOU SET THE THE STANDARD OF A MUSICAL THREAT TO THE MUSICAL COMUNNITY, AND FOR WHICH MR.MISTER ALWAYS STOOD FOR... GOOD HEALTHY MUSIC. ANOTHER POINT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY IS THIS. MR.MISTER HAD 3 PERFECT ALBUMS OUT BETWEEN 1984-AND 1987. MOST OF THE BANDS ONLY GOT HAS FAR AS THE FIRST ALBUM ONLY. WITH REALLY NOT EVEN A HIT SINGLE. SOME DID, DON'T EVER GET ME WRONG. MR.MISTER HAS 3 ON THE SECOND ALBUM HERE THAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. BROKEN WINGS, KYRIE, AND IS IT LOVE. JUST BECAUSE THE BAND WENT THERE SEPERATE WAYS IN 1989, DOES NOT MEAN THAT PEOPLE STILL DON'T LISTEN TO THIS GREAT 80'S BAND. HELL, I WAS 17 YEARS OLD BACK IN 1985 WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF THE GROUP. I LOVE THEM, AND I SURE LOVE THEM NOW, EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. I DON'T THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT VERY MUCH IF SOMEBODY SHOVED A TED NUGENT CD YOUR PLAYER PLAYED IT UNITL THERE WE'RE SICK AND THEN HAD THE GUTS TO STAMBEED THE CD THE DEATH. YOU AND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE READ ON THERE REVIEWS ARE JUST SIMPLY DON'T KNOW WHAT GOOD MUSIC IS. I READ SOMEWHERE MR.MISTER MIGHT HAVE A REUNION COMEBACK. SO, WATCH OUT DUDE... THEY JUST MIGHT. IT ALSO REALLY BOTHERS ME THAT SOME PEOPLE ON HERE WILL RATE HOW GOOD SOMETHING IS NO MATTER WHAT IT IS, AND THEN HAVE THE GUTTS TO RATE IT A 1 OR 2 STARS. MAN, TALK ABOUT CAN'T MAKE UP YOUR MIND... PURE STUPIDITY. COMPLETELY.

1 out of 5 stars The horrors! The horrors!.......2006-03-04

I am sure many of the folks writing these positive reviews are nice people. Alas, believing Mr. Mister represents good music is a dealbreaker for me. We can never be friends. Still, I wish you all the best of luck.

Here is a true story. A friend of mine stole this CD from a music store back in the 1980s. He did it on a dare, and it was completely uncharacteristic of him -- he has never repeated this illegal activity as far as I know. He probably picked this title because it was popular and contained a few "catchy" songs, or maybe it was just fate -- he reached out and there it was! However it happened, he played this CD over and over again in his car, like a badge of honor, like any other dumb teenage boy trying to impress his equally immature friends (myself being one.)

Soon after, something disturbing started to happen. The songs, so upbeat and memorable at first, began to reveal their true core -- vacant, mindless, shallow, designed to bring you in and leave you with nothing. Soon every false note and thin vocal chord sent shivers up our collective spines. We felt like Alex from A Clockwork Orange, trapped and forced to listen to music. But unlike Beethoven's beautiful Ninth symphony, you didn't have to be brainwashed into being repulsed by the music of Mr. Mister -- brainwashing wasn't necessary.

Eventually, using the last bit of willpower available to him, my friend ejected the disk from his car radio and flung it into the rear of his ugly Dodge Aries station-wagon. We all took turns throwing it around, beating on this disk like a rented mule, as if we were physically expunging the demons that had haunted us for previous few weeks. Eventually, the CD -- scratched beyond repair and recognition -- lay on the car floor. Occasionally, we might pick it up and throw it around, but we never removed it from the vehicle. It remained there for years -- a sobering reminder of how bad music could get.

4 out of 5 stars You know its worth going back to visit the real world.......2005-09-03

Mr. Mister formed in 1982, made up of mostly L.A. based studio musicians. Their first album I Wear the Face barely made a dent in the popular music scene. It was until this 1985 release that people started to notice Mr. Mister. They had three singles reach the Top 10 of the pop chart which helped send Welcome to the Real World to the top of the album chart. Unfortunately, they failed to match this success on their following release, and disbanded shortly after.

Yeah, they'll mostly be remembered for their cheesy rock ballads, but you know you couldn't stop thinking about them. How could you forget the crazy underwater effect that began the mega-power ballad "Kyrie"? The vocals were smooth, passionate and tuneful. And like most songs of the era, driven by layered synthesizers. If you didn't remember that one, you're sure to remember "Broken Wings". I think Mr. Mister knew they made it big when this one hit every Muzac system in the mall. Its subtle beats and driving synths help this track build to a passionate chorus.

What about their other big hit "Is It Love"? It was a more up-tempo track for the group that really personified the sound of that era. Of course there were other non-radio tracks on the album. The synth heavy "Black/White" actually borders on a new wave sound. A simple song structure gets the point across on "Uniform of Youth". "Don't Slow Down" features soft vocal arrangements and driving rhythms. The ballad "Run to Her" is pure sugary syrup. "Welcome to the Real World" is sure to stick in you brain with its infectious rhythm composition and melody.

The Verdict
You know its worth going back to visit the real world, don't deny it.

Ben Harper sounds good on paper. He's a 24-year-old Californian devoted to vintage acoustic guitars, original political songs and the unusual blend of calypso and Mississippi Delta blues--an inspired blend of David Lindley, Tracy Chapman, and Taj Mahal. Unfortunately, Harper's execution of this original conception on his debut album, "Welcome to the Cruel World," is distinctly underwhelming.

Harper's singing is the biggest problem. He mumbles his vocals with so little articulation and within such a narrow range that he makes Bob Dylan sound like Al Green by comparison. Moreover, Harper's overall performance is so low in energy that he makes the laid-back Cowboy Junkies sound like the Sex Pistols. His songwriting and guitar picking reveals hints of a modest talent, but they aren't nearly special enough to compensate for the narcotic effect of his singing. The heavy-handed Rodney King song, the adaptation of a Maya Angelou poem and the broken-hearted love songs are more likely to recall Chapman's disappointing second album rather than her exhilarating first. --Geoffrey Himes

Very Good and enjoyed listening to Welcome to the Cruel World by Ben Harper but unfortunate when I first rated it I accidently confused it with another CD by Ben Harper so I'd like to apologize to you readers and liked to change my rating to 5 / out of 5 stars for Welcome to the Cruel World .

5 out of 5 stars Great songs!.......2006-09-28

Harper offers a great interpretation of Maya Angelou's I'll Rise poem. Also, you'll find "Waiting On An Angel" on the album. The song, if you don't know, was featured in the Lines in the Sand episode of the television show House, m.d.

4 out of 5 stars Another Ben Harper..........2006-02-01

Couple of great tracks a couple hokey tracks. Great lyrics and nice melodic rhythms. Overall a good album to own.

5 out of 5 stars Ben Harper rocks!!.......2005-10-18

Ben Harper combines a wide variety of music styles in order to produce his various albums. Each of his albums combine aspects of jazz, rock, and folk. Harper's 1994 album, "Welcome to the Cruel World", was a major success. This album covers introduces listeners to Harper's aucoustic, Instrument, lite rock, and more heavy rock styles.

As with most of Harper's albums, he begins the album with his Instrumental style. The Three of Us, Harper's first track on the album combines all of the styles expressed within the album. The track begins soft rock and carries out in a more heavy rock tone. Other songs on the album like Walk Away and Forever are very similar in their soft rock nature. While How Many Miles Must We March and Welcome to the Cruel World show Harper's more hard rock style.

Harper is very successful in all of his albums especially "Welcome to the Cruel World" in providing listeners with a very ecletic mix of sound on one album. This album serves as a model for his following albums, "The Will to Live" and "Diamonds on the Inside", in the style and order of the tracks on the album. Overall this ablum is a must for any Harper fan.

4 out of 5 stars Finally a social statement!!!.......2005-10-17

"Whipping Boy" ... "Dont' Take That Attitude To Your Grave" ... "How Many Miles Must We March" ... "I'll Rise" :
Just these four songs make the CD worth having. Not to mention all the other songs which are just as good.

I've been listening to this dude back and forth from work for over two weeks...don't be surprised if some of his songs make you grow an attitude.

This is music to think about, not just your old hum and tap routine. Kinda reminds me of how we wrote music back in the late 60's early 70's. Ben Harper is the MAN!!!

Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. Featuring a deluxe slipcase and extensive, new liner notes, this is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. --Jerry McCulley

1 out of 5 stars Original 1978 Recording?.......2007-04-04

FIVE STAR FOR MUSIC. 1 STAR FOR AUDIO. Ok I've wanted this recording for almost 4 years. Now I got it. I am a discerning listener. This soundtrack is not the best quality. Tape hiss is very pronounced. You can tell it's taken directly from a cassette recording. I have other digital recordings of this music. They are miles ahead of this cd. Soundtrack is on the Rhino label. What? Rhino is not known for high fidelity. So it is very deceiving for one to buy a cd thinking it's John Williams conducting on a new recording in 1998 or whenever. It's the actual 1978 recording. Now let me unleash my rage. This thing sounds as if it's recorded with a single microphone in a bathroom, at a truck stop. Yes the music is phenomenal. My favorite track is #2 Krypton. I was hoping to discover some new hidden melodies that I've never heard in previous recording (original 1978). Nope. This IS the 1978 recording. So I will be getting the Debney recording just so I can hear what I'm missing. Love the music. Just can't hear it. ALL OF IT! But cool booklet. I can't listen to a booklet. But I got it. Whoopee.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME! John Williams shows again why he's the master of movie scores.......2006-08-31

After over a year of trying to find a seller of this fine soundtrack, I finally found it! It is high time that the full score was released on CD.
The original soundtrack release from 1978, while still an excellent collection, was sadly lacking in several of the best cues from the film. Most important of these was Track 12 (Disc 1) in which the helicopter crashes on the Daily Planet's roof and dangles precariously above the street. Williams builds on it, introducing Superman's theme into it as Clark Kent runs across the street, then rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' - the symbol of the House of El - then enters the revolving door & exits as Superman. At the end of this is one of my favorite cues; the Superman theme is played as the Man of Steel appears above Metropolis, flying over the city on the hunt for criminals. 'Crime of the Century' (Track 6, Disc 2) was one of my favorite cues; this one portrayed the missile convoy as it made its way along the freeway, where Luthor staged the accident to get his cronies close enough to sabotage the missiles. There are too many new tracks to list here that should have been included the first time around, just a lack of space precluded this from happening.

5 out of 5 stars Is John Williams Superman???.......2006-08-20

After listening to the CD, John Williams must be Superman. By far, the greatest movie score ever written.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2006-08-10

Other than the over kill of "Can you read my mind", an excellent collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hector, about the liner notes..........2006-07-14

I have the previous edition, and the notes that came with it were nestled next to the CD in a thick booklet (with a cover of Reeve in front of an American flag) that was large enough for the slipcase cover, but too big to fit into the CD case front. Otherwise, the one-sheet cover that came with your soundtrack is identical to the slipcase version.

We originally bought this album for the few songs on Playhouse Disney. Now every song is a favorite. This album is great for the whole family. My 4 year old, my 14 month old, my husband and I have "dance parties" with the kids and dance to this album. We just LOVE it. Even my 14 month old goes nuts over the songs!

5 out of 5 stars Fun music and makes my son want to dance..........2007-03-01

I never thought I would buy and actually ENJOY a children's music CD. I rarely write reviews but my 20 month old son loves this CD & DVD set!

We originally saw Ralph's music videos on the Disney Channel and the music got my son up and moving and following directions (clap your hands, stomp your feet, dance around). We recently moved and I knew we had a LONG car trip ahead of us. I ordered this set for the car and it made the trip wonderful! He immediately starts moving around in his car seat and stars "singing" along and even barks during the Puppy Dog song.

I'm very impressed with this fun music CD and the DVD is a great companion. I highly recommend it and want to buy another copy to have just in case I misplace the first copy.

5 out of 5 stars fun for all ages, including grandparents.......2007-02-13

5 out of 5 stars EASY LISTENING.......2003-09-08

If you are a fan of DEAN MARTIN,you'll love those two 1967 lps .We're about halfway mark through the REPRISE years, and DINO fresh from the success of his tv series, almost transform everything from the standards to his new songs like LITTLE OLE WINE DRINKER,ME into his own unique style. That is the mark of a singer who knows his craft, even if the material is medium. This is easy listening music at it's best, and DINO is almost in the twilight of his career with still a few delights to come.As you know, there are many DEAN MARTIN impersonators nowadays, but why not stick with the original? The song IN THE CHAPEL IN THE MOONLIGHT was originally a FRENCH song recorded by LEO MARJANE in 1938 under the title LA CHAPELLE AU CLAIR DE LUNE.

4 out of 5 stars Middle of the road Dino pop.......2003-05-25

These are probably not Dino's finest Reprise recordings, but there are a few gems. "Welcome To My World" equals the original rendition by Jim Reeves, though somewhat different in style. Dean's "Green Green Grass Of Home" is very impressive. "Little Old Winedrinker" is fun, and there are nice cuts of "Wallpaper Roses" and "Chapel In The Moonlight (great Ernie Freeman arragnements and the latter is an extremely impressive vocal by Dean), and the gentle "I Can't Help Remembering You". The rest is filler...but good filler!

5 out of 5 stars HAPPINESS IS DEAN MARTIN.......2003-03-21

This is my second favorite of the two fer CD series and well worth purchasing if you are considering it. These two albums were released within three months of each other and I would assume were recorded together because together they sound like one album. I like each and every song but I prefer Elvis's version of Please Release Me. I especially like Think About Me ,He's Got You, and Welcome To My World . All said these are two great albums which I will listen for many years to come.
