By all indications, Ricky Martin's Unplugged opus should be an easy, effortless sell. The charismatic singer is in fine vocal form, backed by a tight band. He makes some interesting set list selections ("Gracias Por Pensar En Mi," "Asignatura Pendiente"). But Martin is also coming off 2005's commercially disappointing Life, which didn't even reach gold status (sales of 500,000 copies). That's a long way down from his Loca peak. It gives Unplugged, then, the whiff of an artist grasping for old glories. Martin was wise to include standouts "Perdido Sin Ti" and "Vuelve," which still shimmer with a lush pop sheen. Both are from 1998's Vuelve disc, still Martin's strongest effort to date. But new tracks "Con Tu Nombre," "Tu Recuerdo," and "Pegate" come off like unremarkable rehashes of past hits. Instead of looking back, this talented singer should be searching for real ways to reinvent his sound and to make his music exciting again. --Joey Guerra

5 out of 5 stars Completely ANGELIC.......2007-06-17

If you thought you loved Ricky Martin you have NOT lived until you have heard this album. I love his music and I find it takes me back to Puerto Rico when I listen to him but this album not only takes me back there it TRANSPORTS me to the heart of Viejo San Juan. This album is "el mar que de podentro".

To hear a track like "Maria" knocked down about 25 notches from that crazy energetic totally loveable regular release and hear Ricky enjoying every sylable of the song is a JOY to my ears. I can hear in his voice that he is performing for the love of performing not for the want of fame or fortune. He is there because he wants to sing, hands down he loves what he does and well, he's one of the BEST at what he does! I also fell in love with "Perdido Sin Ti" on the "La Historia" album and it has a personal significance in my life but this live version is nothing short of an Angel sining to my heart.

He is performing on stage with Tommy Torres who has to be one of the quintesential Puerto Rican artists alive today and they are jamming. Anyone who understands what "Jam" means you will WANT to hear this album.

If you were hesitant to buy, hesitate NO more, RUN and buy this album I can guarantee that you will not be disapointed. If you are, well you aren't a true RMMII fan....

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous artistry.......2007-06-06

Ricky reveals incredible depth, sincerity, and artistry in this production. An unplugged should speak to the audience in an intimate manner and Ricky has definitely achieved a unique level of expressiveness that sips through every verse and every commentary from the artist. I am happy and proud to see Ricky shine brighter than ever both as an acclaimed artist, entertainer, and philanthropist.

5 out of 5 stars Fabuloso!.......2007-03-20

¡Esta canción es asombrosa! Gran trabajo Ricky.

I really love this song, and being in love with latin music, i thought this album was amazing. Ricky martin has done it again. Wow!

5 out of 5 stars amazing!.......2007-03-12

What an incredible CD from the ultimate performer. If you're a true Ricky fan, you should also purchase the accompanying DVD to this CD. He returns back to what he knows best....ENTERTAINING! I would definately recommend this CD to anyone that loves Latin pop!

GOZALO!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2007-03-09

This is a phenomenal cd that I truly enjoy listenig to. The acoustic format lends such a different dimension to his music and proves that good music does not need heavy and zealous production to be brilliant -- it shines on its own merit. He is in fine voice and I believe this cd emphasizes that Ricky is not a flash-in-the-pan product of music industry sharks out to capitalize on his good looks and charisma. With nothing to hide behind, an acoustic venue such as this shows an artist's true talent, for good or bad. Ricky's talent speaks for itself here and proves him to be the true musician and artist he has never received proper credit for.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album!!!.......2007-02-21

Believe it or not I have ALL of these singers and groups albums and I was surprised this album has all these albums I have and it's much easier for me to use this album so I dont haveto change all these regular albums of theirs over and over again so this album has it all in 1 album and it's much easier for me to play different singers and groups into 1 album!!

5 out of 5 stars TAKES ME BACK.......2006-03-23

THIS TAKES ME BACK TO A TIME WHERE MTV WAS NEW AND COOL AND LIFE WAS CARE FREE. I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT.

5 out of 5 stars God do I love this collection!.......2006-02-25

This collection brings back so many memories of my childhood on the west side of Chicago. All of these songs are amazing dance classics that to me are not just long-lasting but are timeless! "Good Vibrations" is a smoking dance tune for the ages and "Summertime" is true to it's title! If you want to go back in time to a great era in dance music, look no further than this! You won't be dissapointed!

5 out of 5 stars PARTY CD.......2003-07-16

This is the perfect party CD (along with Volume 1) to pop into the player and crank up. It's a treat to listen to these old jams and you can always skip over the embarrassing stuff (CMB). Turn it up.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A decade of AMP.......2007-05-14

First off, let me just say that MTV suxorz. However, they can't be 100% awful, because they brought us AMP (also, remember the classic Yo! MTV Raps and Headbanger's Ball? ;). And while the show no longer exists on the station, the CD lives on.

"Block Rockin' Beats" definitely starts the disc off on the right foot, with some hard and heavy breakbeats as only the Chemical Brothers can make them. "Atom Bomb" put Fluke on the map, and rightfully so. Underworld was at the top of the techno game throughout the late 90s, and "Pearl's Girl" is literally flawless in production. "We Have Explosive" = KILLER. "Ni Ten Ichi Ryu" is a minimal, offstep drum & bass track, with a nice, almost oriental feel (hence the Japanese title, I suppose). "Girl/Boy Song" is far from Aphex Twin's best track, but its cool instrumental melody and scattered beats do well here as a contrast track, and you can almost understand what Aphex is about. Almost. Likewise, "The Box" is certainly not Orbital's best track, but it really gives a good feel for the group and the genre. Tranquility Bass drops a dark, deep, trip-hoppy track. "Inner city Life" is a drum & bass classic, and one of the main reasons I still listen to techno. The "Voodoo People" remix is the best version of another classic techno track. "Are You There" can get repetitive, but it builds and builds with acid breaks over a nifty answering machine sample. "Busy Child" brought the Crystal Method instant credibility, and staying power. And of course, what better way to finish it off than with some harsh, angsty Digital Hardcore from the master of that trade, Alec Empire and Atari Teenage Riot.

When I was 18 and still discovering techno music, this CD helped me to understand the different styles and popular artists, and opened the door for me to forge my own ideas about what was worth listening to. Incidentally, within a year of my buying this CD, I owned every full-length CD with the songs on this album. Absolutely worth it.

3 out of 5 stars Ok.......2005-08-06

This album is not that great. It has some interesting music on it, and one or two songs I play on occasion, but it is pretty mediocre. Look elsewhere for kick ass beats or journeys through sound.

5 out of 5 stars One of the BEST electronic compilations.......2002-12-26

First that all, Im an electronic music fan from Colombia. I remember that my first SERIOUS contact with electronic music was the AMP TV show, via cable television, way back to 1996. In south america, just like in the U.S. the fresh new sound of the AMP TV show captivated a lot of people like me. And just like in the U.S., here in Colombia, finding good quality electronic music was a lot harder than now...

So when this CD came out, I ordered it in a music store that worked with imports, and WOW... even now after six years, few discs on my collection have the ammount of quality that this one has. It has the biggest artists in electronic music, as well as some of their most famous tracks. Of course, this cd may not appeal to the "bang-bang-boom-boom" techno-fans, because every track on this album is pure flowing style. Real quality. Buy it NOW.

5 out of 5 stars the original gangsta.......2002-12-11

This CD's a great starting point and nothing more. it was best back in 97 in my friend's car when we first heard aphex twin and atari teenage riot and laughed it off, only to end up putting it back on later. before circuit city came along and labeled it "electronica" and god knows what else, this was the best starting point for american listeners to get into british techno. only a few stinkers out of an otherwise very diverse (drum 'n bass, chaos, cyberPUNKROCK, straight up big beat) and catchy bunch, sure to sell any disbeliever after time.

4 out of 5 stars Experimental MTV?YES!.......2002-05-14

Can you believe I have owned this CD since 1997? I stumbled across AMP one Sunday night after watching 120 Minutes. On AMP, I was exposed to for the first time Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, Future Sound of London and many other cutting edge artists. From that moment on, I knew I had to have the CD! I agree with the other reviewers here, it is a taste of what MTV in the US can be if they chose to get back their experimental and groundbreaking roots. With songs from the likes of Goldie, the Chemical Brothers, Underworld and the now infamous Prodigy...this CD gives you an overview of the first AMP shows. I can tell you, all of these groups are still very much popular here in Europe and are not "One Hit Wonders" by any means. If you want a taste of experiemental MTV before the Nu-Metal and Boy Band take over of 1998, respectively, then pick up this CD, you wont regret it.

By the time she made her bow on MTV Unplugged, Mariah Carey was already a multi-platinum-selling artist who owned the charts, but didn't command much respect because no one had ever seen her perform live. As it turned out, Miss Thing could deliver as sure as Domino's, emoting significantly over soulful arrangements of several hits and a cover of the Jackson Five's "I'll Be There." That track became a No. 1 hit and earned a solo recording deal for featured backup singer Trey Lorenz. This may not be Carey's best record, but it's certainly her most surprising. --Daniel Durchholz

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars OK, but definitely overrated........2007-06-15

I bought this CD because I wanted to see how these modified arrangements would be since you all said that this CD was God's gift. It isn't. I can't really sit through the whole thing but it definitely isn't a total waste. The worst track here is definitely Emotions. I just wasn't feeling it much.

Make It Happen, I'll Be There and Can't Let Go are the best. But the rest is just OK. And I definitely can't say that any of these songs can stand up to the originals (besides I'll Be There, it IS an original debut) And this verison of Emotions wasn't too good. And like her first CD it's OK, but overrated.

Listen to the samples first, buyers!

5 out of 5 stars Can't Let Go.......2007-04-13

This is probably (in my humble opinion) the best Live show by Mariah carey. As she reaches the end when her band starts "Can't Let Go", it put a sad effect in my heart. I just feel "Oh, NO, don't, please don't go".

4 out of 5 stars Now THIS is Mariah.......2006-11-15

This album is short like a photo of a galaxy is short... it doesn't take up a lot of space but it encompasses vastness almost beyond measure. This is the Mariah Carey who more than deserves her fame, a musician with a powerful and beautiful voice and sense of timing. Don't let the short list of titles put you off, this is a Mariah Carey album that should be in your collection, close at hand, if you like her at all.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing - Highly Recommended.......2006-01-01

This, her debut album Mariah Carey, and Emotions are the best Mariah albums. This one is so amazing in particular. None of the songs are bad and she sings her heart out on them all. I could put this album on repeat and listen to it for hours. If you're wondering if you should buy it - do. It's an amazing album and really beings the best out of her and her voice. She isn't as glossy sounding as she is on her albums, but in a good way. You can hear the rawness of her voice and the soul in her voice much more and she lets go and sings passionately & sounds like she's having a lot of fun.

Emotions - So great. She started out the song with a different intro, then went into the song as it is on the album. She hits the high notes perfectly, silencing the critics. The audience goes crazy. She did an amazing job singing this song live.

If It's Over - Perfection. I personally love this one better than the album version. It's sung amazingly and with a lot of emotion. You can tell this song meant a lot to her. Singing it live brought the best out of it.

Someday - This live version is fun & she lets her backup singers sing right out front a bit more. She sounds like she's having the time of her life and the high note at the end is not forced sounding like the album version. This version isn't as aggressive as the studio version; it's more fun and carefree.

Vision Of Love - Her voice sounded a bit tired here, but she sang it amazingly. I prefer the album version though & I've heard her sing this song better live at different performances. Still great though.

Make It Happen - So much better than the album version. She took a boring, poppy song and made it a bit jazzy and upbeat. Vocally it's great and outshines the original version from the album hands down.

I'll Be There - Trey Lorenz joins her and they cover the Jackson's hit. It's pretty and sung well. Trey has a great voice too. No wonder it went to #1.

Can't Let Go - Her backup singers start singing it after the show was ending and Mariah seems surprised. She giggles and tells the audience that she is going to sing it for them because she is so happy that they made her feel at home and she wants to thank them. This one shows the emotion that the album version lacked and is more raw and less poppy. It's vocally better in my opinion. It's sweet, because in a way she was letting the audience know she 'Can't Let Go' of them because it was nearing the end of the MTV Unpligged performance. The end of the song has her thanking the audience for coming and telling them she loves them.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect live.......2005-10-29

Man, well she's not like the rest when she's live she's live she sounds exactly the same. And the I'll Be there duet was just great. I strongly recomend this album.

This album has alot of good beat for Baby Got Back, Finally, Deeper And Deeper, Im Too Sexy, Jump Around, Real Love and the rest. I have this album when I first saw this album at the mall in 1993. I never stop loving this album! Its been 14 years and I never get tired of listening this album!!

4 out of 5 stars Great CD, but..........2000-11-10

This cd is pretty good. I love Sir-Mix-Alot's "Baby Got Back" cuz it's a great song to dance to. I'm glad they didn't remixed that song or else I would of given this CD 3 stars. Other songs on here, except "Deeper And Deeper" and "Finally", are good too. But the reason why I give this CD only 4 stars is because they should of left "Jump Around" by House Of Pain alone. I mean they sould of put the original version of "Jump Around" instead of that remix version on this CD. If you love the original version of "Jump Around" and hate the remix version, then just skip that track. But if you do, than don't. But anyway, go by this CD. Especially for "Baby Got Back". Peace.

5 out of 5 stars Good........2002-08-08

This is a good album by MTV before MTV became all those TV shows and all about seriousness. This features many songs by famous artists at the time but not their major songs because if they wanted the big songs they would have picked "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul or "What's On your Mind" by Information Society. It features songs by artists that maybe no one has ever heard of which is good because we all need different music. I recommend this album. It is what made MTV famous in the first place.

4 out of 5 stars A CD not to be forgotten, or missed!.......1998-11-28

MTV started off a beautiful thing when they released MTV party to go volume 1. Jam packed with hip hop classics as well as other memorable songs, this is a CD that will bring back memories, as well as becoming a time tested classic.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Party Album!.......2001-03-25

At this point in time, the MTV Party To Go Series were essentially all hip-hop. The album has many of hits around the 1993-1994 music scene. The album opens with Tony Toni Tone's song Anniversary, which is mellower than many songs on the album. After the first song it matures to include hard hitting rap songs by Dr.Dre, Onyx and 2Pac, while also harboring the more mainstream appealing Boom Shake The Room by Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince (Now known as Will Smith) and Informer by Snow. Pretty quickly after that the album goes completely funky. K7 performs Come Baby Come which is an awesome song even if it's on the weird side. Of course it wouldn't be an MTV Party To Go if it didn't include some super classics, so we get Whoomp There It Is by the Tag Team and the famous What Is Love by Haddaway (Night at the Roxbury anyone?). Closing out the album is the CDs worst track, Weak by SWV, and one of my faves Knockin' Da Boots by H-Town. If you like collecting party CDs, this one needs to be in your collection. It's worth the money even now!

3 out of 5 stars it aint tyte, but its aight.......2000-01-16

most of the song son this cd are bumpin! especially anniversary, knockin' da boots and slam. but i have heard from most people that they didnt like the remix of weak. i really didnt like it either, becuase it messed up the chorus part. but this cd is good for a little get together, maybe a small party.

5 out of 5 stars Great album but..........2007-02-21

I am a huge fan of Madonna since 1994 when I first saw Secret, Human Nature, Bedtime Story and Take A Bow video on MTV and VH1 and I had to buy Bedtime Stories album but the point is about Human Nature and when I saw this album of Human Nature by Madonna and I said to myself: what does it sound like by Howie Tee Remix??? is it compare to the regular one like Bedtime Stories album?? I didnt know until I borrowed a friend of mine that has Maxi-Single CD of Human Nature and I listened to Howie Tee Remix and the beat seem to be alittle slow for this album tho. The Bedtime Stories had the fast beat but I wish this album should have pick out the hot fast beat like I'm Not Your Bitch Mix or Runaway Remix or just something like that. It will be great for this album but hey thats my opinion. Maybe I am not used to listen to Howie Tee Remix who knows but I do know the Howie Tee Remix is pretty slow for this album anyways but the reason I rate this 5 stars because Human Nature is my favorite song and I love Short Short Man by 20 fingers and also when I first heard "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica and I didnt even realized there's a Brandy in this album as well!! I am glad I bought this album!! the 3rd person right below me I have a message for you: yes the MTV Party To Go has couple of Madonna songs. The first one was on MTV Party To Go Vol. 3 "Deeper And Deeper" and this one "Human Nature" and the Platform "Express Yourself". So far MTV Party To Go only has 3 songs of Madonna's.

5 out of 5 stars want to have a party without skipping slow bad songs? tada!.......2001-10-06

i love this cd! as the first reviewer said, this is really good. i love all of the songs so much that i take this cd to every party or far place we go, even vegas! my favorite track must be HUMAN NATURE because madonna rocks and it has been a long time since her last single was used on a party to go. i think she had 1 song on part 2 or 3. anyway..i also love this is how we do it and freek like me and everything else. my 3 faves are this is how we do it, human nature and freek like me. this volume(#7) and volume 9 and p2go 2000 are the three best 1s. get this 1 now!

5 out of 5 stars Good enuff to party on even now........2000-01-25

As I remembered when this came out, I was surprised. This is actually one of the better MTV Party to go mixes: all the jams flow really nicely and like the reviewer below said there's a real good variety of songs like the "Human Nature" Madonna remix, and the freakapella "Freak'N You", Biggie and Total, a nice Boyz II Men acapella...actually they coulda done widdout "Short, Short Men", but you can program your player to skip over that one....plus it has a good beat ya can dance to, Mr. Clark. Get it from Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Great verity of bands........1999-10-25

Loved every song on this album.I really loved the Montel Jordon! He is way sexy.Everyone should go out and by this album right now!!It's that good.
