Customer Reviews:
A surprisingly lively score.......2007-03-18
Look at the liner booklet's inside front cover photo and you'll see the problem. Here are five giants of show business, all up in years, all past their prime, doing a vaguely topical show about politics. It couldn't work. (Another clue: Irving Berlin isn't sitting at his transposing piano, the "Buick".) Politics and musicals are indifferent bedfellows at best: witness "Of Thee I Sing", which mates a superb score with a senile book. The quintumvirate behind "Mr. President" never considered the audience's instant assumptions, especially with a young dynamic JFK in office, and with comedy albums hitting their stride, and Vaughn Meader recording "The First Family" just six days before these songs; all they could offer was weak White House tea. The show was such a disappointment that except for two interpolations in the '66 revival of "Annie Get Your Gun" Berlin never wrote for Broadway again.
Sad, for while "Mr. President" ranks with the second-tier shows from "Miss Liberty" on it has a charming score, put forth by a fine cast. Indeed one laments how such considerable talents as Nanette Fabray and Anita Gillette were underused in their careers -- Miss Fabray never did quite reach the apex despite her looks and appeal, while Miss Gillette graduated to TV and game shows. Never mind, they're in fine fettle here, as are the strong-voiced Jack Haskell as the First Boyfriend (they don't make Broadway singers like that anymore) and the unlikely Robert Ryan, quite credible in his flag-waving finale. Clearly the material didn't meet the performances halfway.
Odd CD production note: Didier Deutsch uses a different take for the closing of "The Only Dance I Know": here the orchestra just kind of falls apart, where the LP has a smooth vocal fade-out. It is always annoying to find unexplained changes, and one wishes Deutsch, a capable producer, had informed the audience why.
Loved it then -- I still do.......2005-06-18
I remember seeing this show on Broadway when I was a kid. I STILL remember the music and how much fun it was. It was Irving Berlin's last score -- not great, but sure close enough. So many unrelated things conspired like a Perfect Storm to close this show which was really very unfortunate.I wish this CD was more readily available because I would buy it in a flash.
ThisWas a VERY Good Show!.......2001-12-03
I was lucky enough to see Mr. President the day after it opened. It was bright, witty, energetic and just plain fun. Robert Ryan was simply great as the president by being a very strong, very believable president. His singing voice was hardly great, but who cares? He was magnificent in the part. Nanette Fabray is one of the most talented and underrated performers in the business. She can he funny, warm and touching all at once. I would love to see the show revived. Maybe the critics will be kinder than those at the time who took exception to the rousing finale, "This is a Great Country," and bashed the show for its patriotism and flag-waving finale. As the song says, "If this is flag waving, do you know of a better flag to wave?" I don't...and neither did the audience the night I saw it.
Good first half.......2000-10-23
I finally was able to locate the CD of this show. The music from the first half the show has some verve and reflects the idea of the white house. "They Loved Me" is quite good with Nannete Fabray belting it out. And Anita Gillette's "The Secret Service" is amusing. But with the election having ended the rest of the show just peters out especially musically. The finale of "This is a Great Country" is typical Berlin patriotism, but it does not measure up to his other patriotic hymns. Robert Ryan's singing is not outstanding, but he does carry the tune and for collectors it is good to have his voice on a CD.
Mr. President.......2000-10-15
This was a great cd. I saw Nan Fabray on a rerun of What's My Line? and my interest was piqued by her mentioning starring in the show. Sadly the show seems to have closed due to the long newspaper strike of 62-63 and of course, the assassination of JFK (even though the show's is not based on the kennedy's as is stated in the first song, you feel they must have had some influence.) All in all a great show but sadly won't probably be revived since so much has changed about the presidency since 1962.

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Mr.President's songs are great. They sound good and you could really dance to them.
Great Dance Song.......1999-01-18
If anything, this song has great rythm and instruments. The first time I've ever heard a type of ocarina type instrument being played in a dance song. But that's not all it has. A spectacular dance song. Great single!

This is one of my favorites of all time!!!.......2001-12-10
This cd will always have a place in my cd player! This cd has great eurodance songs like Up 'N Away, Goodbye, Lonely Heart, I'll Follow The Sun, I Give You My Heart, 4 On The Floor, Gonna Get Along (Without Ya Now) and I Believe. There are also a few different approaches to eurodance with the songs Turn It Up! (which has a great saxophone beat) and I Love To Love. There is also a ballad, Show Me The Way, a great rave track, I Love The Way You Love Me and, of course, the big hit: Coco Jamboo! There is also a great intro and outro and three awesome remixes of Coco Jamboo! If you are into music by La Bouche, Le Click or Real McCoy, then this cd is for you! You won't regret buying it! Every song has an irresistable beat to it and once it becomes stuck in your head, you won't want to stop singing along! Overall, this cd is an excellent purchase!!! GET IT TODAY!!!
Great CD.......2000-06-01
WOw I am surprised only three people reviewed this cd after the sucess of Coco Jamboo hitting #21 on the Billboard charts, as most dance hits do not make it that high. Anyway the songs on this album are not like Coco Jamboo, they are faster and more Euroish. SO if you like groups like 2 Unlimited, Twenty-4-seven, and Real McCoy then this CD is for you.
it's an awesome cd!.......1998-09-24
I first heard of Mr. President a few years ago in Poland and they were great. Since then I heard the cd released here in the states (which is slighty different) and I was so happy to see that they came to America too. They have great voices and the CD is fun and upbeat!
A good Eurodance CD.......1998-07-17
This cd has some awesome beats. Tracks #2,3, &5 are awesome. I first heard the group in Europe in the summer of 96, they are so popular there, but here in the US no one has heard of them. This cd is perfect for when you're cruising in your car on a Friday night. Buy it!
