Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars 2-3 good pieces..........2007-04-18

The CD is not as great as others mention, at least not for me. I like 2-3 of the pieces but that's it.

4 out of 5 stars wonderful CD!!.......2006-08-08

this is a great CD -- i would rate it 4.5 stars. i was expecting more upbeat songs like track #2, but it is a great CD to lounge with.

the beats are awesome, and very well put together tracks.

4 out of 5 stars This is chill out, not tango.......2006-08-03

If you are looking for traditional tango, or you expect some kind of modern tango like Piazzola, don't buy this CD. This CD is electronic and interesting music, and i enjoy it a lot. I Strongly recommend this CD for people who likes electronic neither dancing nor meditation music. Moreover, i recommend to start with "La Revancha del Tango" from Gotan Project to listen how chill out tango sounds.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Lounge music.......2006-06-06

Trip hop and lounge lovers need to have this CD at home. Bajo Fondo Tango Club is not as pure tango as Piazzola's nor as chill out percolated as Gotan Project's, which makes them a band for all publics. Nor even one single person in my office couldn't help download at least one song of this CD into their ipods. Three of them already bought their copy.

1 out of 5 stars Rubbish.......2006-03-29

I agree with the fellow who used the word Muzak to describe this nonsense. It has all the feel of elevator music made for a business park in suburban Buenos Aires. In fact it made me rethink my feelings about the Gotan Project, which has one or two good cuts to its credit with the rest of its output being similar drivel. Honestly, begin with Tango Zero Hour by Piazzola and you will never tolerate garbage like the Bajafondo Tango Club.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A little disappointed.......2007-04-25

I am giving it three stars, not because it is a bad mix, the mixing is very good however based on what I usually buy I was a little disappointed. The first CD I listened to just once and will be dated very fast as you know the originals of the songs and well I was tired of hearing the pop versions anyway. The second cd is the better one in my opinion. I did not care too much for the opening tracks but it eventually gets into a nice groove but with only 12 tracks I was left wanting for more. A decent purchase for those getting into this type of music but I have strayed away from the heavy vocal tracks as I am a passive listener (in my car, on airplanes, waiting in the bank, etc) and have been spoiled on Tiesto and Armin. I am not regretting this purchase but it would not be on heavy rotation on my ipod or CD player.

5 out of 5 stars Thrive Mix 03 vs. Ultra Dance 8.......2007-04-06

Ultra Records used to be my pinnacle of Dance Music. I found myself always waiting for the next Ultra Weekend and Ultra Dance. Since ThriveDance has come to the table I am excited to say I have found a new love! ThriveMix03 was the best dance compilation I've heard in a long time. As I am a huge fan of POP music I was excited to see my favorite artists mixed with underground artists like Peter Lutz and September. Since my first Thrive purchase of ThriveMix03, I have since gone out to purchase the rest of the ThriveMix catalog and I have to say I am yet to be disappointed. Good Work Thrive! I am ready and waiting for your next release!!!!

5 out of 5 stars SO MUCH FUN & SUPERIOR TO ULTRA DANCE 08.......2007-02-07

If you are looking for a great album to work out to, to listen before heading out to the club, or to throw on at a party, this is the perfect CD for you. And if you are a fan of both dance and rhythmic pop music like me, then you'll definitely fall in love with this CD.

I've been a long time buyer of the Ultra Dance series, and I also now have all three ThriveMix CD's in my collection. Overall, I have to say that the ThriveMix discs have stronger tracklists (thrivemix 2 had near identical pop hits as the ultra weekend 2 CD, but I felt that the more `underground' dance songs on thrivemix 2 were stronger and mixed much more nicely), and the thrivemix CDs are sequenced and mixed better. Thank god that Ultra Dance 08 and thrivemix 3 don't have near identical tracklists like thrivemix2 and ultra weekend 2 did. I own Ultra Dance 08 and I have to say that thrivemix 3 has logged in more time in my stereo- it's just a much stronger CD in terms of track selection, sequencing and flow.

My favorite tracks on ThriveMix03 are Cassie, Nelly Furtado, Jewel, September, Brooke Hogan, Basement Jaxx, Gabriel & Dresden, Supafly, Inc., Fatboy Slim, and Oakenfold. I had never heard those remixes of Cassie, Nelly Furtado, Brooke Hogan, and Fatboy Slim before...great choices. The rest of the songs I hadn't heard period, but I am so glad to discover them. That Gabriel & Dresden track is awesome, and I love the Phil Collins sample in Supafly,Inc.

On a side note: others here have complained that Disc 1 isn't mixed well, and I have to say that as a person who mixes himself, it is because there are so many pop/rock hits that have been included on disc one, and these songs can be impossible to mix together seamlessly like you can with two more traditional dance songs (like Tali & Meth and Reina on Disc 2).

Overall, just a really fun CD all the way through and a superior album compared to Ultra Dance 08

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars ok.......2007-03-20

This one was Just OK... I prefer the Ultra compilations and also a new one I found on itunes EURO CLUB HITS VOL. 1 ......

3 out of 5 stars A Huge Decent From the Oustanding ThriveMix01, Unfortunately.......2006-08-27

The first Thrive Mix CD was, and still is, one of my favorite dance compilations EVER. It had a perfect mix of dance, trance, and funky house. It had some of my favorite songs ever on it. I had high hopes for Thrive Mix 2, I really did. But then I saw the track list and I had no idea how it could possibly top the first Thrive Mix. No surprise, it didn't.

While there are some good songs on Thrive Mix 2, it just is leagues away from Thrive Mix 01. The mixing truthfully isn't that good - plain and not very well done. Many songs left me bored, while some songs kept me entertained. There is no trance to be found here; just house. Truthfully, I do not like house as much as trance at all. It can get kind of repetitive and even boring while trance usually, if not always, keeps me on my feet. Thrive Mix 2's slogan is "out with the old, in with the new", but I think it should've kept to the saying "if it ain't broke, then don't fix it." I'll go through each song.

CD ONE

1. Coldplay - Talk (Jacques Lu Cont/Thin White Duke Remix) ... B
A decent remix, but long and can sometimes get a little boring. And it takes a while to build up.
2. INXS - Need You Tonight (Static Revenger Club Mix) ... B+
Pretty good, but nothing more than that. There's some good music here, but the vocals somewhat left me hanging.
3. Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away (Craig J Big Love Mix) ... A-
A good song with really good music. A nice remix here.
4. The PussyCat Dolls - Don't 'Cha (Ralphi's Hot Freak Club Mix) ... A
A remix that actually proves to be better than the original. It turns a nice, cool, hip hop tune into a fun, pumping club track.
5. Britney Spears - And Then We Kiss (Junkie XL Mix) ... A-
Pretty good, yet I've never heard the original. Good music, great vocals for Britney, and yeah. A good song. Cheesy, but what do you expect? This is pop/house we're talking about!
6. Alanis Morissette - Crazy (Claude Le Gache Mix) ... A
Amazing cover of Seal's classic, which I've truthfully never heard, but Seal is still amazing. That didn't make much sense, did it? OK so anyway, this is an amazing remix of a pretty good tune. One of the best songs on the album, and catchiest.
7. Heather Headley - In My Mind (Freemasons Club Mix) ... B
Now we decend into catchy-music-but-repetitive-kinda boring-dance-house land. Nothing entirely special about this one, but the music is good. Vocals are good, but nothing catches my attention.
8. Kristine W - I'll Be Your Light (Jack Elliott & Mac Quayle Club Mix) ... B+
Her track on Thrive Mix 01 was outstanding, but this one just doesn't keep me interested. That's a shame because Kristine W is an amazing vocals with a few great songs under her belt.
9. Rent - Seasons of Love (Gomi's Lair Club Mix) ... A-
A pretty good remix of the only song Non-Rent Fanatics know from the outstanding musical. Actually it's not my favorite song from the soundtrack, but I won't go into that. The vocals are somewhat messed with here, making them sound less pure, but whatever. It's a good house remix of a good tune. The music goes with the original's, and the feeling from the original luckily isn't lost; a surprise.
10. Mylo Vs. Miami Sound Machine - Dr. Pressure (Clean Club Mix) ... A-
The catchiest song of the moment, the unescapable "Doctor Pressure". If you haven't heard this, get out of the rock you've been living under. Either you've heard Mylo's original song or this, or even Gloria Estefan's oldie hit. Bottom line - awesomely addicting.
11. Madonna - Sorry (Paul Oakenfold's Remix Edit) ... A
An amazing remix of a pretty good song, but again, not the best song from her album. Still perplexed on how it became a single over "How High" or "Push", but I think "Push" is next after "Get Together" (another good song from her album "Confessions on a Dancefloor").
12. DJ Peter Presta Feat. Bonse - Totally Hooked (Club Mix) ... A-
If you've never heard this song before, I can make you imagine it quite well. Take Boston's outstanding song "More Than a Feeling" and loop the chorus for six minutes or so, somewhat changing the lyrics a bit, and adding a cliched house beat. Then you've got the catchy, well-remixed "Totally Hooked". If what you imagined isn't exactly like this song, then I will be quite surprised.

CD TWO

1. Hard-Fi - Hard to Beat (Axwell Mix) ... B
I loved the original. It's an amazing rock song. Take the annoying, high-pitched screams from the third or fourth chorus, loop them over a house beat, and you've got Axwell's mediocre remix of the tune. Oh yeah, also add some random words from the verses. Where's the actual song? I'm not calling this song bad, but where are the good parts of the original?
2. Bob Sinclar Feat. Gary "Nesta" Pine - Love Generation (Full Intention Club Mix) ... B+
A pretty good song, even though it took some time getting used to. Very islandish. A good party anthem. The Full Intention Mix adds a nice, if basic, house beat into the mix.
3. A&C Vs. Kiki Dee - Music in Me ... C
The main problem with house is it's over-repetition and boring loops. Trance is interesting, and this is just plain mediocre.
4. Kaskade - Everything (Kaskade's Big Room Mix) ... B
Good music, but everything (haha) else is kinda boring-ish.
5. Danielle Bollinger - Kiss the Sky (Mike Rizzo's Global Club Mix) ... A-
Another good one, which was better than most of the previous songs. Powerful, and finally - dancey!
6. Carl Cox - Give Me Your Love (Valentino Extended Mix) ... C+
Another boring one. Sorry.
7. Deborah Cox - A House is Not a Home (Moran/Rigg Mixshow) ... B
Not her best, and another shame. Read the Kristine W section. Most of the same applies.
8. Deep Dish Feat. Stevie Nicks - Dreams ... A
An amazing remake of the Fleetwood Mac classic. 'Nuff said.
9. New Order - Guilt is a Useless Emotion (DJ Dan Mixshow) ... A
Actually amazing. One of the biggest surprises of the album. The verses are good, the chorus is catchy. Best song on the album, apparently.
10. Judge Jules Feat. Marcella Woods - So Special (Club Mix) ... B+
Good, if long.
11. Gabriel & Dresden Feat. Molly - Tracking Treasure Down ... A-
Another really good track. Great vocals, great chorus, great music. And something different from the mediocre house that I had to endure at the beginning of the second CD!
12. Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (Benny Benassi Mix) ... B+
A good remix.

OK so basically, this album gets around a B-, the score was lower because of the fact that the series switched to repetitive and mediocre house and dumped trance. There are a few really good songs here, but then there are songs that will bore you. Before you Release Thrive Mix 3, please rethink the tracklist (even though I have not seen it). I know house is more commerical, but don't forget about the awesome new trance music out there! And I am NOT talking about Cascada (even though she is pretty good)!

I would suggest this album to people who love the New York Dance Scene, and house music. Also those looking for some "exclusive" remixes of pop and rock songs and even showtunes will find some here. For those bored to tears by seven minute house songs with endlessly looped vocal tracks, run far, far away from this album. And for those who prefer the European dance music (*cough* a lot better *cough*), buy the outstanding Clubland 9 (it's an import, but it's worth the price).

3 out of 5 stars not a great mix--but some hard to find remixes..........2006-06-13

I agree that this disc has a lot of slow down due to some not so hot song selections. I personally think disc 2 flows better than disc 1, and I was really happy to find a couple of rare remixes on here because I'm a big collector of hard-to-find mixes.

5 out of 5 stars Thrive mix 2!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-10

Thrive Mix 2 is the heat! Don't sleep on this mix. I love the remix of the the Pussycat Dolls W/ Busta. Plus, the Mylo vs. Sound Machine tune is amazing. Vic Latino is on point with his selection and it only gets better with disc 2. This mix is packed full of all the hot new club tunes. I don't know what Mr. Pac Dan was talking about. Half the songs on Ultra Weekend 2 are played out. Big up Thrive and Mr. Latino for coming with the new hotness! Can't wait till Thrive Mix 3.

5 out of 5 stars Gets the blood flowing..........2006-06-03

Loving these mixes!!! This is my new work out CD. Great mainstream songs with a upbeat twist. I especially like that Pussycat Dolls "Don't Cha" and the INXS track. The RENT "Seasons" song is very cool...never heard that before.

I'd recommend this mix to anyone that loves house music, but wants to have a familiar melody or lyrics to sing along to!

5 out of 5 stars Another cracking set of mixes by Carlos Campos.......2006-10-31

After hearing Barrio Latino Paris I went straight out and bought each of the Barrio Latinos and went to great lengths to get them. And they're all exceptional collections of music. Carlos Campos simply has exquisite taste in Latin music, yet more than that he's managed to arrange these CDs into a series of consistently high quality mixes, which is quite an art. This is something I find many DJs are not able to do when creating mix CDs, they have a few good tracks but as a whole piece often they're often mising something. Not here! This is track selection and mixing at its finest.

Personally, Barrio Latino Paris (sometimes called Barrio Latino 4) is my favourite, however, all of the Barrio Latinos are of such an exceptionally high standard that I'd hesitate in recommending one over the other. Some of the individual Barrio Latino discs discs are chilled, others are dance, and I do mean DANCE!

Again, the second CD of Barrio Latino II simply ROCKS, with a really upbeat continuous dance mix. It's funky, jazzy, hip, bootie shaking, foot tapping, dance music. The first CD is more relaxed, a solid collection of more down-tempo tunes, though upbeat at times, great for kicking back to.

This is latin dance mmusic at its best. If you like Latin, dance, Buddha Bar, or George V records, grab each of the Barrio Latinos while you can.

4 out of 5 stars Makes you move!.......2001-10-25

A nice mix of brazil and latin based beats. Classic styles and Contemporary club styles: Classic, hip, jazzy, and soul-full. Brazilian, Salsa, Merengue, Cuban, Hatian, etc... a nice balance of instrumental pieces and vocals. The first CD 'Sabroso' warms me up with classic styles, while the second CD 'Ardiente' just makes me get up and shake it with remixes. If you like a diversity of different types of Latin vibes from classic untouched pieces to ones mixed with acid jazz and club music, then you will like this album. This is a fun and tasteful mix.

5 out of 5 stars Another great mix from Carlos Campos.......2006-11-01

What a find! I started with Barrio Latino Paris and then rushed to buy each of the others and found they were all great.

Both discs of Barrio Latino 3 are different, both are excellent. The first disc 'Sweet Life' is a lush mixed disc of breezy latin beats and is perfect for relaxing, background music for dinner parties, that kind of thing.

The second, 'Latin Nights' is an excellent upbeat mix of latin flavoured dance music. Close all the windows, take the phone off the hook, turn up the volume to 10 and dance... and then come back to Amazon and grab each volume in the series while you can.

Carlos Campos has made an excellent music selection for both the chilled discs and the dance discs in this series. None of them are a case of hit and miss, or 'I liked tracks 1-4, but the rest was rubbish' as are so many other mixed CDs, which I think takes an exceptional ear to select the best tracks and then to be able to mix them seamlessly into a whole work of art. Campos has mastered this art.

If you like latin music or just some great funky dance music, the Barrio Latinos are an excellent choice. It's so easy to drop $20 on a dud CD these days, you wont do this here, this is a great buy and will get repeated listenings. I have dozens of CDs in this genre and this series sits right up there at the top of the heap.

For other similar CDs see my listmania list (click my reviewer name) or check out anything on George V Records, Buddha Bar, Siddhartha, Claude Challe... my guess though is that if you're here, you already have, so check my list manias for another 50+ really beautiful CDs you wont regret buying. (If you find it useful, click 'yes', and I'll put up more).

Can you tell I love this CD? Five stars. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Puts me in the mood to dance while driving!.......2002-09-30

I am very pleased with my introduction to Electro Hispanic music. The compilations of Brazilian, House Fusion and Tribal Grooves by Carlos Campos is nicely put together.

CD 1: the music very relaxing and easy on the ear. It would be ideal to play this music while entertaining friends at home. Relaxes me during my drive home after a long day at work also.

CD 2: music is very lively and makes me want to get up and dance. During my drive home from work my feet could not stop tapping with the beats as I turn up the volume.

I do not speak nor understand Spanish or Portugese but love to listen to all types of international music.

I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking into purchasing compilations of soothing and upbeat dance music.

5 out of 5 stars Smokin' ... 6 stars out of 5... Carlos Campos is the Latin American taste master.......2006-10-31

I bought each of the Barrio Latinos after hearing this and went to great lengths to get them. They're all exceptional collections of music. I think Carlos Campos is the Claude Challe of Latin American music, he simply has exquisite taste, yet more than that he's managed to arrange these CDs into a series of exceptional mixes. As some others have commented, it's very hard to go wrong when purchasing a CD from the George V catalogue, I agree.

Like most people, I dread 'wasting' money on expensive CDs and would have no hesitation in purchasing each of the Barrio Latinos again (I went through more than a dozen internet sites around the world to find each one of them at a reasonable price).

I have an extensive collection of Latin American, yet these are by far the best mixes I've heard. Personally, Paris (sometimes called Barrio Latino 4) is my favourite, however, all of the Barrio Latinos are of such an exceptionally high standard that I'd hesitate in recommending one over the other. Some of the individual Barrio Latino discs discs are chilled, others are dance, and I mean DANCE! Think funky, sexy, bootie shaking Latin, people sipping cocktails, beautiful women tearing up the dance floor.

The second CD of Paris simply ROCKS, it would be simply impossible not to be moved to dance to it, with a huge grin on your face. Alone this disc would be well worth the asking price, yet the first disc of more chilled beats is excellent as well.

This is music at its best. If you like Latin, dance, or George V records, get each of the Barrio Latinos while you can. Barrio Latino Paris is as a good a place to start as any.

My highest recommendation.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great cd, but..........2005-11-10

I don't get the title and how it fits with the songs. Summer Vibes to me would be non-stop dance, and this cd to me has certain songs that are tribal and low key. I am not saying the songs aren't good, b/c this is a well thought out compilation. However, for a "summer" cd I would expect non-stop pick me-up dance songs. I like the fact that this cd has old and new as the other reviewer mentioned. Too many times artists feel the need to include only new songs and this takes away the quality.

5 out of 5 stars DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!.......2003-07-11

Vic Latino really hit the mark with 'Summer Vibes'!! I'm quite impressed with this CD. I loved Vic Latino's '80's Now' CD & I just had to run right out to get this one. Vic has such a great handle on what Dance/Club music fans love to hear. It would be easy for him to just take every #1 song & remix it. Instead, he goes beyond just taking that easy path & he manages to "discover" the hits of tomorrow as well. He really nows how to sniff out hit songs & make them come to life. So if you want something more than just some radio stations played out playlist, then 'Summer Vibes' is for you.

This CD has a great mix of both new songs as well as some clever & innovative remixes of some old favorites. I just love the hot mixes of newer songs like "Never" by The Roc Project (another Tommy Boy Records label mate) which is destined to be a Summer 2003 anthem & "Breathing" by Rank I which shows great promise as well. And you can't go wrong with Gigi D'Agostino's "I'll Fly With You', Darude's club anthem "Sandstorm" & DJ Encore's "I See Right Through To You".

This is a terrific addition to any music lover's collection. This is the perfect CD to bring with you to the beach, to a BBQ, on the ride to the clubs, on a weekend road trip or whatever. The point is, don't let this CD pass you by. Get it now & listen to it everywhere the summer takes you.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars not worth the plastic it was printed on.......2006-01-22

Just as previous reviewers here have stated, this is utter mainstream garbage. No respectable, actually, make that no club that wants to attract a crowd would ever play any of this outdated bs that has been mixed and remixed years and years ago.

You would think that someone like vic latino (although i frequent almost every major nyc club and have never hear his name uttered), along with his KTU cronies would have the ties in the club culture to be able to stick together a reasonable club banger, but this is complete mainsteam misrepresentation that is mean to appeal not to actual clubbers but to 40 year old women driving in their cars on the way to soccer practice. If youre into club music do yourself and favor and dont waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars DISC 1 IS WORTH THE PRICE ALONE!.......2005-11-11

The length of the mixes is what impressed me the most. No song is short. Each songs builds up, hits its peak when the vocals are played, then comes down slowly right into the next song's beat. The cd just flows. I only listened to disc 1 so far and I am extremely pleased with this purchase. Even if disc 2 completely bombs I will not be disappointed. This cd blows NYC Underground Party Volume 7 away!!! "And She Said" followed by "Forgive" had the windows in my car shaking this morning on the way to work. Good job Vic Latino.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2005-10-24

I am very dispointed with with this CD. I am only 17 and i have known all of these songs without entering a club and they are so old and over played. I have even heard of few of them on z100. I bought this CD in hope it would be better. I also do not like the spainish music on the cd.

3 out of 5 stars WORTH IT JUST FOR "YOU SHINE ON ME".......2005-10-12

I JUST BOUGHT THE CD , AND I ESPECIALLY WANTED IT FOR THE SONG BY LOLA..NO STRINGS. BUT THE SONG FOLLOWING IT IS MY FAVORITE SO FAR...YOU SHINE ON ME BY LUZ DIVINA.
GREAT SONG.
WORTH THE PURCHASE ..LOTS OF OTHER GOOD TRACKS.

4 out of 5 stars More like "prom night in NYC", but still plenty of party tracks.......2005-10-12

I don't see how other reviewers could be surprised that this disc is so commercial after looking at the track listing-these are mostly very well-known radio airplay tracks.

Loaded with filter disco, samples of old tunes, tons of vocal, and commercial dance radio hits, Disc 1 isn't exactly what you'll hear in the big clubs in the city, although, it has its moments of more progressive stuff in the middle. It is definitely some of the best popular dance music out there, and Vic Latino does the smart job of letting the records play out for longer than 5 minutes instead of giving us radio edits.

Disc 2 begins with the "club mix" of Deborah Cox's "house is not a home," but it is not a house mix, it's the original 2 step mix. This is followed by a row of Latin flavored raga hop tracks in the style of Sean Paul and all those types of artists. Personally, I can't really take too much of that stuff. Just not enough speed or energy for me. Track 7, although it starts with a slow hip hop rhythm, borrows the riff from "Follow Me" by Space Frog, and it eventually speeds up to a driving house number, and then the house party starts all over again, segueing into the dark and tough Armand Van Helden track "Into Your Eyes," which samples vocals by none other than Andy Taylor of Duran Duran! From there, it's a fairly driving, hands in the air set, including a funky house take on Murray Head's "One Night in Bangkok", and ending with a few big names in trance, including a hot remix of 4 Strings. Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Um, ok.......2003-02-05

Wow, Vic looks like a femine 'JIMMY POP' from the Bloodhound gang. The cd's ok, but man Vic, are times that hard? "one of the most influential radio DJ's in the USA"? Really? He's no Kid Kelly.

3 out of 5 stars Skip track 12!!!.......2003-01-17

This album has several good tracks the best being AMANDA by Brooklyn Queens, they really give the song new life. There are a few really bad covers as well, the worst being Madhouses cover of LIKE A PRAYER! The female vocalist has no emotion at all, she is simply yelling out words, it leaves you wondering if she even understands what she is "singing." This track is just so bad it forces an other wise 4 star album to get only 3.

1 out of 5 stars Just Alot of Noise.......2002-12-11

I thought the background music ruined the original songs.

5 out of 5 stars Buy 80's Now (Now!).......2002-11-12

Ever since DJ Sammy's colossal success with his Eurotrance rendition of Bryan Adams' "Heaven," we have been deluged with an onslaught of 80's cover tracks. Many of these tracks have found a home on one or more 80's-themed compilations, but none as fine as "Vic Latino's 80's Now!" This release is loaded with some of the most popular dance covers today, such as Brooklyn Queen's stomping take on the Boston classic "Amanda," Akyra's "Here Comes The Rain Again" (Eurythmics), "Invincible" by Riesta (Pat Benatar) and "Separate Ways" by Dee Roberts (Journey). But what makes this compilation stand out is its inclusion of several top-notch remixes of recurrent 80's songs in which the original artists receive 2002 updates, mostly Eurodance/trance, and one (Corey Hart's "Sunglasses At Night") Freestyle. Kim Carnes' "Betty Davis Eyes," Berlin's "Take My Breathe Away" and "Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister are three stellar remixes included here which should thrill not only fans of the original mixes (the '02 remixes are true to the originals) but fans of today's club beats as well (each are stellar Eurotrance productions). The Outfield is sampled as the lyric "I just wanna use your love tonight" is combined with the main guitar riff and repeated frequently with DJ X's Freestyle offering "Use Your Luv." Madonna is represented as "Like A Prayer" receives a fantastic cover by Madhouse (Madonna junkies will accuse me of sacriledge if I say that the cover is better than the original, so I won't say it). Aquagen does an absolutely killer imitation of Peter Cetera and Chicago with "Hard To Say I'm Sorry." My only wish here was that they had covered the ENTIRE song (half of the lyrics are gone). Just when you thought we'd seen the last of the covers of "Total Eclipse of The Heart," along comes Jan Wayne Meets Lena and gives us perhaps the best cover of all. Maybe it's just because I've finally tired of Nicki French's version after it's 1000th spin. Last but not least is Eyra Gail's exacto cover of DJ Sammy's cover of Bryan Adams' "Heaven" (got that?). To the untrained ear, only the vocalist is different. I'll stick with DJ Sammy's take when I'm mixing (and use Eyra Gail's "The Flame"), but New Yorkers have apparently taken a shine to this one, as dance radio WKTU has spun this one all summer while the pop stations played DJ Sammy. No suprise then that Vic Latino (a jock at KTU) uses Gail's version for his compilation. Vic did a terrific job of mixing this together in beat to beat club format, and does a nice imitation of Billy Idol for the cover art! With the strength of this release, I look forward to more from Vic Latino. "80's Now" has been selling like hotcakes, breaking into Billboard's Electronic Top 10 sales chart. I am happy to be one of the many who have bought it! 5 stars .
