Customer Reviews:
The Only Krush You Really Need.......2005-02-27
DJ Krush is one of the only turntablists/producers that emerged in the 90's who should be remembered (the other being DJ Shadow). He is a real artist that does something different with every album, yet still has a definite style that transcends his experimentation.
The Holonic Megamix is Krush at his best. To his credit, Krush has always been more hip hop than most of the DJ scene, and even 7 years after its release, "Holonic" doesn't sound cheesy or disco, like most "lounge" music from that period. These are hard, cool beats often with nothing but a Japanese flute or a muted trumpet floating above. Krush often gets compared to Miles Davis, and the comparison is apt in the sense that Krush makes cool, deceptively simple music that, at its best, holds your interest and rewards repeated listens. This is one of those CD's that you will play at a chill party and people will be asking you about throughout the night. It's expensive, but really worth it because Krush takes his best moments and creates one long mix that is more than the some of its parts. Better to have this than 4 of his individual releases. Highly recommended.
immediacy.......2001-08-16
On first listening wasn't impressed, but the next day after the first tracks passed me by (was busy doing something else) got straight into it after freestyle 2. Give it a chance and all the depth/subtlety will come out. Wicked.
A phat mix from beginning to end.......1999-12-10
Krush gets creative on this album, piecing together some of the highlights of his several albums into a cohesive whole that hits hard. Along with "MiLight," the only Krush album worth getting in my opinion. Don't get me wrong...I like Krush, but he just has a tendency to get to repetitive with the beats. On this one, however, he retains the darkness and heavy jagged edge while still keeping it from dragging into endless repetition. If you Krush when he's at his best, don't let the price discourage you...definitely pick up this import.
The place to begin with Krush.......1999-08-13
This album actually spans material from 'Strictly...' through 'Milight.' The mix is continuous and involved, yet not redundant with his other albums. If you're new to Krush, start here. If you have the rest, don't hesitate to pick this up.
Mad!- Swings moods from softinstrumentals to topnotch rap........1999-07-19
I bought holonic about 7 months ago having bought Krush's turntablized. Listening more to 'holonic', and understanding more 'krush's style and his techniques of mixing and rythmic construction, he has become by far my favourite artist. What more can I say other tham I am listening to Holonic as I write this. One for the books!
