All deep house lovers should own this.......2006-12-09
There is really not much to say, besides than this compilation is an essential for all deep house fans, It is very difficult to find it, but once you get it, it would be imposible not to be agreed with everyone who wrote an review. 165 Drop by hot Lizard is really out of this planet, the best Deep house ever made, good luck finding it!!!!
Timeless.......2004-08-23
I remember the first time I heard this CD. I was home for Christmas, and my brother played it for me. I remember going crazy by the third track over how incredible this CD's flow was. I begged my brother to give me this CD, he refused.
A month later, I was back in DC, and my friend came to visit me from Boston. He had said he bought me a CD that was going to blow me away. He slipped it on, and by the 45th second, I started to scream like a cheerleader.
I have to say, this is one of the smoothest flowing CDs I have ever heard. Definitely on top of my top 10 list. I still listen to this CD without ever getting bored. In fact, I have 2 of the tracks on here on Vinyl. Space Jazz Carnival by Azymuth, and The Way by Global Communication. I am a huge fan of this series, but 2 and 3 never came close to the first volume. I love all of the tracks on this CD and I purchased this cd over 10 times already. I find it very easy to give it away to whoever likes it. Now, I only have it on my I Pod.
Excellent CD.......2004-06-10
Sevety minutes of relentless hypnotic house beat. Outstanding.
My Old Mate Harry.......2004-05-19
I used to go to school with Harry, and even then his musical taste was far beyond anyone else. Interesting to see he is now a dance afficionado...he used to be full-on punk when I knew him.
the party at my house.......2003-11-17
Harry Russell works as the buyer of 12" dance singles for Watts Distribution in New York City proper. He's heard his fair share of dance records over the years, managing to collect a few of the best ones along the way. He tends to lean toward independent releases that normally wouldn't see the light of day. He plays them regularly for friends at his home parties - Club H, and recommends them to record store buyer nationwide. In his early 40's now, he might be a tad old to spin the ones and twos, but there's no limit on taste (which he has acquired in abundance). The initial issue of what has become the infamous "Harry The Bastard Presents Club H" series might be the best. Downtempo house without divas for those who want to come down from the frantic pace of club life gets you the likes of St. Germain's - Deep In it, Azymuth - Space Jazz, Hot Lizard - 165 Drop (Charles Webster Mix), Pepe Bradock - De' Mare Le Chauve, Crazy Penis - Get It On, Global Communications - The Way The Deep, Atjazz - Fifth Quarter, the elusive K-Hand - 2 Low Key, and Soul Parlor - Right On. This could possibly be the best collection of great house music you've never heard. It's so good I have no doubt it will stand the test of time and improve like great wine as you mature. My personal copy was slipped to me by a record store owner many months before it became available. Of course I've added the other two and come back often for a spin as a high water mark to judge others by. When someone complains about house music being all repetitive, this is what I refer them too. One day when they write the history of dance music phenomena they will no doubt include a chapter about the great parties and music that came from Club H. Long live the bastard and the music that he wrought.

NOt much to say,,, besidews than i real enjoy Deep House music, and this would be an essential piece of music to own
More great work by Harry.......2004-11-05
I'd Echo "Houserat's" review: this is a phenomenal album filing a superb nice between relaxing listening and full on dance music. Great stuff.
Eloquently Put Together! Excellent!.......2003-02-17
Upbeat, yet relaxing. This collection of music comes off as smooth, atmospheric, passionate, yet exciting music pieces while retaining the House essence. Plays well in the car while travelling in the night hours.
Great Music, Seamless Mixing.......2001-10-21
I bought this CD after reading the Amazon reviews and listening to the snipits. I'm very glad I did. The music is positively upbeat. I loved lisenting to it in the car. Later that afternoon I spent twice the amount of time I normally do on the treadmill, all because of the fun I was having listening to this fine CD.
Did you hear Vol-1? Here is more of the same!.......2001-06-08
HTB gets busy again bringing us that smooth jazzy lounge style house music as in Club H Vol. 1. This cd scores slightly less than Vol. 1 because it's just a little more mello. It's a good set but not my first choice of house music to get my bouncing. The style is jazzy and is kinda sexy, and the mood of this cd is one for lounging or cleaning the house, doing paperwork or going on a long drive. This is not agressive house and is less thumping than Vol. 1. Still, this is a great cd with nice mixing and a nice music selection. All the jazz house here fits together well to make a very relaxing house set. You don't often put together house music and relaxing but believe it or not HTB makes it work. You get your money's worth with this 70+ minute mix.
Cuts of choice are "51 Days", "All This Music", and "He Didn't Know." If you're into jazz house from the likes of Kevin Yost, or David Alvarado then you should like this cd also. Keep in mind this isn't really a dance cd as it really isn't strong enough for the clubs, but it's definately a nice joyride into the world of house music. This isn't a title I'd suggest to start your house collection but certainly a nice addition.

4.5 for darling deep house instrumental set.......2002-09-10
I just don't understand Harry Russell, alias Harry the Basta*d. Doesn't this guy want to be a DJ superstar? He's not even mixing these twelve cuts himself, merely compiling them for Dave Micalizzi to whip together. And really, "Moon on Ice," by Yello (!) dug up from 1987 (!!) might be an incredible find, but no way the kids are gonna like it - even if the honey-tongued cabaret vocals with ominous strings make it the ideal James Bond dance theme. Cold Feet's "In My Lucid Dream" seems born to follow that, a sprightly, chugging beach instrumental signaling the general mood for Club H volume 3. Ha! Like a real club would ever spin it. A calling card for the last few summer sunrays, this just isn't hip. And some of these records are old, even earlier than 2001 - not that you'd recognize these unknowns anyway. Then consider the tasty marimba of Nikkie D "Kugsarre" or guitar-packed "Love and Tears" by Aquarian Dream - Latin conga backing which builds to an uplifting climax...yup, this beautifully paced comp (excepting two bland Carl Craig mixes) is gonna end up solely on the meticulously shelves of a few hundred obsessive deep house fans and snobbish music critics. I just know it. 4.5 stars

Harry the Bastard - Genuine Slugger, the name conjures up some sort of madman image, a club-welding bouncer at some heavy metal action. Regardless of the name and fearful projection, Harry Russell lays down some of the most liquid, sensual grooves this side of the Atlantic. He's no dummy. At forty something plus, he knows he's no GQ model pretty boy, shunning any photo sessions. Simultaneously, he's a mystery and enigma - the elusive party monger. In the process of collecting thousands of 12" vinyl records, Harry has honed his craft - well digging. This man digs deeper than deep and these aren't still waters we're diving into. On Volume 3 of the Club H series, the journey starts anew with Yello - "Moon On Ice" and Cold Feet - "In My Lucid Dream". This isn't mindless dance fodder. These are true gems culled from the deepest vaults in lower Manhattan. Case point: Nikkie - "Kugsarre", Aquarian Dream - "Love and Tears", and Karl the Voice - "Music Is My Life". Downtempo, ambient tech - house served up in equal measure, Summer Transport - "Sol Patrol", Powder Productions - "Rhode Island" and Deep Environments - "Echoes & Vibes". It makes me wonder how he finds all these great cuts then blends the perfect mix. Harry is DJ of his own domain. In a loop of one, on tour by word-of-mouth, the bastard outlaw. No rules apply in his musical house as home, just great vibes spinning perpetually round and round in Club H. Take a chance, take the ride. Genuine Slugger is my early candidate for MVP, any game, any league. Set 'em up, he'll knock 'em down.
It goes against all I believe in............2002-07-18
but I've got to give this album five stars. It's good. It's solid top to bottom. If you're into some form of hardcore house, or you're looking for a 40oz of redbull in an audio format, or you need a soundtrack in your headphones that's appropriate for an aggravated assault then don't stop here - this one's not for you. But...if you've listened to the first two HTB disks and enjoyed them, then keep up the good work and get this one as well. The vibe of the album varies even less from track to track than the first two - it's too peaceful for me to really dance to, but it's damn good and groovy listening. Buy it and sneak it onto the stereo: if your friends who aren't into house or electronic music DON'T ask you what it is then come back here and write a bum review.
