Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic album, nothing else like it.......2007-01-21

I'm not a big fan of goa, the reason being that I find much of the music too repetitive. Although infected mushroom do use the same thumping baseline in almost all their songs, I find they get away with it because they layer a very rich variety of rhythms and sounds on top of it. I sincerely recommend this album to people whom like me, are in some way attracted to the genre, but are not regular listeners because they get annoyed by too much repetition in songs. You may also like Juno Reactor

5 out of 5 stars A Must Own Mushroom.......2006-07-11

There is a reason why this is such a sought after album and I have trouble understanding why a few reviewers have panned it. I find it to be a much more evolved album and sound than their previous "The Gathering." That album had it's moments, but doesn't hold a candle to this one musically or in mastering quality. As for it not being in the same leage as other Trance artists releases, I say that is false as well. It is some of the best Trance you can find, on part with any of the best in the genre. It is an intricately woven tapestry of sound that takes you on quite a journey from the opening guitars of Bust A Move to the ending notes of Missed Symphony. It is most certainly not your standard trance fare. And yes, there IS enough "classical" element in the mix to merit the name, though don't expect a remake of "Hooked on Classics."

To summarize, in the psy-trance genre, this is one of the "classic" album and a must own if you are into this music. I've owned it (and most other Infected Mushroom) albums for years now and this is one I never tire of. Great for dancing, great for driving, great for going on a little mind trip. Hop on board, and get infected!

2 out of 5 stars The "over rated" guy is right.......2005-10-15

I don't get it, there is nothing special about the IM project. None of the albums did I think were anything more than redundant psy. Nothing really stands out and nothing is There are some neat sounds but its not really catchy and it pales in comparison to Man with No Name(MWNN), Juno Reactor (old), and Astral Projection (AP). I don't recommend any IM stuff. Get AP or MWNN and you won't miss IM ever.

5 out of 5 stars The best Trance/Goa CD released to date.......2005-09-09

I don't think there's too much disagreement that this is, if not the best then at least one of the top Trance/Goa CD's ever released. I'm sure many Trance/Goa/Gaia aficionados would put this CD in their top 5. Like one of the other reviewer's I put 'Mushi Mushi' as the best track here, just ahead of the Epic Opener 'Bust a Move'. There's just so much going on with both tracks. So many things to listen to that it's hard sometimes to get your head around it. This is the sort of music you need a kick-ass Stereo equipment for so you can appreciate the sonic vibration's that emanate from the disc. There's obviously a good deal of musicianship with these two fellow's. No overly repetitious and simplistic repeats from these guy's. We get messed up loops; constantly changing sped up, slowed down with mixed up, funkified vocal cuts. 'Mushi Mushi' must be the most complicated sounding Trance/Goa track I've ever heard, but you can follow where things are going without it being just a mess of musical madness. I think it's hard to explain what Infected Mushroom sound like to someone who hasn't heard them before. For people who like Trance/Goa then you already know but for the novice this band & most particularly this album are the best place to start and up till now....to end! Grab a copy

5 out of 5 stars You Must Own This Album!.......2005-08-03

This album is strong in the innovation department, and may appeal to a wider audience than their last album The Gathering. Each track has something special to offer, and no track here is bad at all. Many different instruments are used to further the Infected Mushroom sound. Very nice touch with guitar and piano on track 1: Bust a Move. This is probably the song on this album that will appeal most to the music fans out there that like standard grade A trance but are looking for something new. Well-balanced super sweet stuff. Powerful heavy guitar action on track 2: None of this is Real melded with a light-hearted xylophone. Who woudda thought? Infected Mushroom makes it work though. Major increase in funk factor on track 3: Sailing in the Sea of Mushroom. Track 4: The Shen keeps it going strong. Next up, track 5: Disco Mushroom. I guess I could do without the "aahh aahh aahh aahh" vocals (dare I say cheese?), but they are short lived and do not degrade the album excessively. The moodiness continues with track 6: Dracul. Why do I get the feeling that the artists are trying to scare us sometimes? Their last album had its spooky moments too. Combined with this album it is evident that Amit and Erez are truly master purveyors of the Halloween-like feel. But do not pass this album up because you scare easy. Suck it up and enjoy the jewel of an album that Infected Mushroom has created for us this time around. Tracks 7 and 8 continue the great track trend, and the last track The Missed Symphony is a fine closing to a fine album. I give this album two thumbs up and a major Al Pacino style "Whoo-ah". Nice work, men. Five stars.

By showcasing the timeless sound of the Spanish guitar in a variety of settings, Incendio takes the listener on a global musical experience while continuing to break new ground.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing debut!.......2006-01-11

This band is amazing. Although some may lump these guys in with other "nuevo flamenco" artists, the astute listener will notice that this band is much more progessive than their counterparts. They use more complex harmonic structures in many of their compositions and they experiment with other music forms like Celtic, middle-eastern, and even trance.

Leonard Bernstein occupies a unique position in the music world for his protean, multi-faceted talents. His ability to draw on and absorb every cultural influence made him the ultimate eclectic, yet he eventually forged a style that was unmistakably his own. This record, which includes vocal, choral and instrumental pieces, some never recorded, performed or published, demonstrates that his Jewish heritage played a formative, lasting, decisive role in this process. The earliest, Psalm 148 (sung in English), written when he was 17, is steeped in an ultra-romantics style, especially Wagner's; it hardly contains a hint of the later Bernstein, but its innocent sweetness is infinitely touching. The longest, Halil, is a virtuoso piece for flute with piano and percussion, written 1981 in memory of a 19-year-old Israeli flutist killed 1973 in the Yom Kippur War. Also written for specific occasions and friends are Silhouette for Jennie Tourel's birthday and Three Wedding Dances for the marriage of Adolph Greene and Phyllis Newman. Excerpts from longer works include At My Wedding from Arias and Barcarolles, a description of a young fiddler playing for a wedding that is both funny and affecting, sung in Yiddish, a chorus from the ballet The Dybbuk, a section of Concerto for Orchestra. These, like several sacred selections--prayers, invocations, hymns of thanks and praise for various parts of the Service--are sung in Hebrew. The most substantial is Hashkiveinu, a prayer for peace, commissioned by the Cantor of a New York synagogue, for tenor solo, chorus and organ, featuring call and response, cantorial chanting and very daring harmonies and tonal juxtapositions. Bernstein later recycled some of this material for other, very different compositions, like films and musicals, perhaps indicating that he considered this style the connecting thread of his creative life. The performances are uniformly excellent; Réaux, Blochwitz and the pianists stand out. --Edith Eisler

    Album Description

"What are the Jewish roots I long for?" wrote Leonard Bernstein as he pondered one of his many Jewish-inspired compositions. This unique collection of rarely heard works—including several world-premiere recordings—reveals many possible answers to Bernstein's question. Triumphal processions, mysterious invocations, intimate Jewish character portraits, rousing dances; all of these musical offerings present the great eclectic imagination of one of America's foremost 20th century composers.

I came to Gamelan Pacifica's page to see if they had another release aside from Trance Gong, which I own, and, lamentably, it's their only release. I've had a chance to sample various, Javanese and Balinese gamelan music, and I admit that finding "audiophile" recordings of these are quite rare. If you love the warm, glowing tones of this music and don't want to hear an excess of live concert noise that seems typical of this genre, buy this CD; I was pleased to find the quality of audio recording so high. Whereas a few tracks are of a fast tempo, most of the songs are of a quiet, pensive mood. Drawing upon the Javanese gamelan tradition and synthesizing their own, Trance Gong (based in the Northwest U.S.) occasionally inserts a wind or string instrument into their compositions. One of the last two tracks is my absolute favorite. I often hit *repeat* on the CD player and leave that song to play all night. It is what dreams are made of.

      5 out of 5 stars Pure Gordon.............2006-05-15

Michael Gordon's Trance is at times minimal, maximal, exotic, rhythmic, rock n rollish and never boring. It has all the quirky twists and turns of his previous efforts 'Yo Shakespeare' and 'Weather'. He effectively uses an electric guitar and subtle electronic drones & other electronic effects in conjunction with acoustic instruments to express a variety of textures and rhythms - I love those contrapunctual horns!! He also incorporates a track, I think it is the 3rd one, of pan-world music - the underlying resource and inspiration for western contemporary trance music. On this track there are a number of overlapping non-western, exotic music styles whereby it is difficult for this lover of exotic musical fare to differentiate the multitude of styles at hand. The one musical style easily differentiated is from central asia: Tuva. Rising above the multi-ethnic meditation are Tuva overtones played by an regional instrument I do not know the name of; and the track is accompanied by a constant electronic drone - it lasts the whole movement and almost reminds me of singing from the Republic of Georgia. In the last track there are subtle references to contemporary trance techno music which is an appropriate way to end this fine, challenging composition.

This composition has what Decasia lacks: Michael Gordon's quirky personality plus the variety of expression he normally employs. I just wish Michael Gordon had more structure when he composed the music for Decasia because it, Decasia, lacks Gordon's most interesting music. After listening to Decasia again, I still find it too dense and too monolithic. As another writer mentioned (in a positive amazon review of the music for Decasia), the score was developed before the movie was made, that is all fine, but I think it contributed to the lack of musical variety. I would love to hear Gordon make another soundtrack of Decasia now that he has the movie to look at and I would certainly purchase that dynamic and mercurily structured composition. But for the time being if you are not familiar to Michael Gordon, Trance (and Weather plus Yo Shakespeare) is an excellent place to start. I think Decasia is for those who are already iniated with Gordon and not a first choice for newcomers.

I will most certainly listen to Trance many times and so will you.

5 out of 5 stars No one loses consciousness during this trance.......2005-03-13

Young Philip Glass meets Jimi Hendrix meets the guys in white coats from the looney bin. Fascinating poliphany, lines sliding in and out in coomplex patterns, and most of it LOUD. People used to describe early Glass as being like watching lapping water change the patterns of sand on the beach. This music is more like watching the changing patterns in solar flares.

Not for the faint of heart or delicate of ear. For others? It is hard to find metaphors. Maybe a bunch of egghead intellectuals having a ripping good time at a NASSCAR race. Maybe a bunch of rockers and their avant garde lovers attending a graduate mathematics lecture. I think it's great. It satisfies your guts and your mind.

I particularly enjoyed Trance 5, the last section. It has a structure and build of enormous intensity. The rising excitement makes me think of Ravel's Bolero, the first movement of the Shostakovich 7th Symphony and two of Glass' works, Act III of The Photographer and The Grid from Koyanisqatsi, although Gordon's ending is rather blunt and lacks the satisfying epiphany of these other pieces.

Raga Jazz brings together many varied styles and cultures of music as well as some of today's best musicians. Ragas on the Indian slide guitar and sarangi sing beautiful melodies over carefully crafted grooves, with John Benitez' bass and Tani Tabbal's drums locked in sync with Ray's tabla. Barun Kumar Pal (slide guitar) provides soaring and beautiful melodies and solos, while complimented by the incredible Sarangi (bowed string instrument know as the "voice of 100 colors" in India) played by master Ramesh Misra. Stan Scott plays the acoustic 6 string guitar on several tracks and also the harmonium, the ubiquitous acoustic keyboard of India.

          Product Description

"Proem" is the result of Alex Aréstegüi's passion for Electronic music. Comprising of various elements and styles, it portrays a period in his life that has been emotional and inspiring. It is a soulful compilation of various qualities. It is a full musical experience, including dreamy washes of keyboards that slowly unfold over a chest-thumping kick drum as the music conveys an emotional, classical bend. Having a deft sense of how to build crowds into a frenzy while also being capable of setting one's mind at ease is what sets Alex's compositions apart.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the best........2007-01-10

I have to say that this CD is one of the best trance albums I have bought in a long time. You won't be sorry you when you get this album. All the tracks will take you on your own personal journey. Track 2 and 3 are the best ones on the CD. If Tiesto and Above & Beyond got together and made an album, this is what it would sound like. Don't miss out on this one.

          5 out of 5 stars Great techo-dance music!!.......2005-11-11

This album is perfect for clubbing and dancing. I must admit even though I'm a lifelong guitarist, I'm not knowledgeable about this genre. But it sure sounds good! This is especially true since the artist is still a teeneager! Well done.

          5 out of 5 stars OMFG.......2005-11-09

Alex?! Wtf man, when did you start this CD?
Of Love...produced by Breakfast (Casey Keyworth) & Alex.

4 out of 5 stars trance at its best.......2005-11-09

This record is right up to par with work from such world famous artists as Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold and Tiesto. It's amazing what Alex has been able to create at such a young age. Highly recommended for all techno/trance lovers.

5 out of 5 stars More thumbs needed!.......2005-11-09

If I had more than two thumbs, I'd give it 5 thumbs up!
