Customer Reviews:
Volume One of the greatest disco album ever.......2003-10-30
Wow! I wouldn't dispute this album title, if considered together with volume 2. This double disc contains a lot of the most commercially successful tracks from the disco era and plenty of classics. Appropriately it kicks off with Donna Summer's eurodisco classic I Feel Love. Other hits from this genre include Funkytown, Get Up And Boogie, Black Is Black and Silver Convention's Get Up And Boogie.
The Chic family is also well represented by Le Freak and Sister Sledge's He's The Greatest Dancer, while the more soulful side of Disco comes in the form of Lady Marmalade by LaBelle, Shame by Evelyn Champagne King and Boogie Nights by Heatwave. Classic electrodisco is represented by Sylvester's unsurpassable You Make Me Feel Mighty Real, Amii Stewart's Knock On Wood and Dan Hartman's Instant Replay, while KC And The Sunshine Band, Shalamar and Kool And The Gang offer funky party style dance music.
Amongst the obscure classics here The Michael Zager Band's Let's All Chant and The Ritchie Family's Best Disco In Town are the most charming. A song like Candi Staton's Young Hearts Run Free has the most beautiful lyrics, whilst anthemic million sellers include I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, YMCA by Village People and Disco Inferno by The Trammps.
Other favorites of mine are More Than A Woman by Tavares, Never Gonna Give You Up by the inimitable Barry White, Feels Like I'm In Love by Kelly Marie, Working My Way Back To You by The Detroit Spinners and the passionate and powerful Use It Up, Wear It Out by Odyssey.
This is essential listening for Disco fanatics but make sure you get Volume 2 as well, since it contains more great classics of the time like Hot Stuff, theme from Shaft, Ma baker and Native New Yorker. When you have both volumes, you can truly claim that you have the best disco albums in the world ever, even though the Bee Gees aren't directly represented.

Album Details
Second in this Very Successful Series, Best Disco Two Re-Creates the Disco Mania of the Era. This Double CD Collection features 44 Tracks from Partice Rushen, Andrea True Connection, Sister Sledge, Boney M, Frantique, and Loads More.
Customer Reviews:
Volume Two of the greatest disco album ever.......2003-10-30
This 2-disc is the second volume of the series and truly deserves its title. It is packed with the greatest hits of the Disco era in all its diversity, from Eurodisco to Party Funk and Dancepop. The Bee Gees may not directly contribute, but many of the Saturday Night Fever artists like Tavares and Yvonne Elliman are here.
Donna Summer's rock period is represented by Hot Stuff, while established rockers like Rod Stewart were also getting in on the disco act. Early classics like Theme From Shaft (1971) and TSOP (1974) predated disco but sounds just right next to late 1970s classics like Chic's Good Times and Sister Sledge's We Are Family. Amongst the more funky numbers are Oops Upside Your Head and Aint No Stopping Us Now, whilst the good-time party crowd like KC's Sunshine Band and Kool's Gang let rip with That's The Way I Like It and Celebration.
Ma Baker by Boney M and More More More by The Andrea True Connection are great examples of Eurodisco, whilst Odyssey's Native New Yorker, Gloria Gaynor's Never Can Say Goodbye and Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You represent the more soulful side of the genre and Santa Esmeralda/Leroy Gomez infuse it with a Latin feel.
Together with the first volume, these discs provide a window on an era when dance music had lots of personality and ruled the charts in all its tuneful vatiety. It is certainly ironic that disco existed side by side with punk. A few artists like Blondie produced a successful synthesis (Heart Of Glass) although many rockers indulged a bit (Miss You by The Stones and Rod Stewart's track on this album).
This is a great album of ageless songs and ideal for parties.

Customer Reviews:
If there is any Latin Music CD you should own, this is it!.......2001-01-25
This compilation has most of the top latin hits around and is EXCELLENT for parties. The first CD is amazing with tracks like Bamboleo, Lambada,Samba De Janeiro and Tequila just to name a few. The second CD is also quite good with tracks such as Guantenamera and Light My Fire. If you like Latin Music, you will love this CD and this is the best Latin compilation I have ever come across. Usually they just have a few good songs and are loaded with crap songs whose titles look good(as they are in Spanish). But this one is different which is exactly why you should buy it!
