I dont consider this they debut.......2006-07-29
Seriously anyone who gives this 5 stars is only do'in it cause DMX is on that one listenable track. This is not what the lox is all about. Pop bubblegum beats and radio friendly lyrics. Thats Puffs doing. If you really want to hear what the lox is all about, cop they solo album's and We are the streets. This album you can definetly tell Puffs pullin they strings.
Classic L-O-X!!.......2006-07-12
The LOX come good (no homo) with their debut album. This was before the D-Block movement they got goin' on now so it may be different to new LOX fans, but it's still heat. Jadakiss, Styles, and Sheek show with this album that they had skills then and still do now. If you like Hip-Hop go but this album now!

Overly, commercial, materialistic pap! .......2006-03-05
I can see why the Lox don't like to talk about this debut. This sounds as if Puffy did the whole album. Puffy and his Bad Boy production team produced most of the songs and it sounds like complete rejects from his No Way Out album instead of a Jadakiss/Sheek Louch/Styles project. Money, Power, Respect with DMX and Lil' Kim is the only strong song on the album. And what was the point of having the Mad Rapper on this album? Even the Hitmen's offerings come off as lame. The Ron Lawrence/Deric Angelettie song come off as lousy. And the ones from Nashiem Myrick, Stevie J and Carlos Broady come off as mediocre. But the low point is the pop-driven sound of If You Think I'm Jiggy, which Puffy produced and what worked for Mase doesn't work for the Lox. The song blatantly interpolates Rod Stewart's 1978 disco-driven hit Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. It's got a catchy beat a la Puffy, but the song's pretty bad and overly commercial. Out of 40 to 60 songs that Puffy produced in 1997 for artists, that's his worst! The lyrics on the album come off as materialistic and don't tell me too much about the group's background. Jadakiss had harder-edged rhymes and lyrics on the Lox' 2000 album and his solo stuff, but there's nothing he really offers here. The album's commercial sheen comes off as creatively empty. They should have let Puffy rap on this album instead and called it The Four Beats to Shake to.
disgust.......2005-12-07
I was intrigued with the title, but understood nothing of the lyrics. As most of rap (hip hop) this is incredible garbage. only my opinion of course.

Customer Reviews:
EASTWOOD IS ALSO A GREAT SONGWRITER.......2007-06-11
This is a "semi" career spanning CD (and the only decent one in existence) of the movie themes from some great Eastwood movies. The earlier pieces are from his days in TV and transition to movies. The more mature work with Lennie Niehaus displays Clint's artistry, no not only as an actor, award winning director, but great composer. My only complaint is the disc is missing the off-beat and totally original jazzy "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" from THE GAUNTLET.
The disc does contain his wonderful A PERFECT WORLD and THE UNFORGIVEN. Why Eastwood never won an Oscar for some of his original scores is a mystery to me. He is more celebrated as a director than as an actor only because he won more awards in that category and his acting style was known for it's low-keyed and reactionary style. But the Clint Eastwood the musician cannot be dismissed and here is that more than proves his versatility. A known jazz lover, for fans of that genre, give a listen to WHY SHOULD I CARE from "True Crime", another great Eastwood composition.
The remainder of the disc is a salute to Eastwood and his work with a heavy emphasis on the jazz.
First rate. I've been a fan since his directoral debut in PLAY MISTY FOR ME. Little did I realize what a great composer he would turn out to be.
A must for any fans as there are no single soundtacks available from his movies featuring his work.
Play Misty For Me.......2005-12-20
Nearly an hour and 20 minutes of "Music For the Movies of Clint Eastwood". What fan wouldn't be happy with this CD? 23 Tracks, and a great compilation. From the early TV days, the "Theme from Rawhide"(this was about the time I fell in love with Clint, I think I was about 8)performed by Frankie Lane, and Spaghetti Western, the "The, Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"(does anyone REALLY know the words to this one, and does it really matter?)to the romantic Doe Eyes"(the love theme from "Bridges of Madison County", the music will have you reliving the great moments from great films that just say Clint!
The first half of the album features both Clint's own works and the fabulous talented composers he has worked with. Ennio Moricone's oh so recognizable style("The Good, The Bad and the Ugly"), the moving music of Lennie Niehaus("Pale Rider"), the haunting sounds from Lalo Schfrin("Dirty Harry Theme", where you will relive Clint doing the, "Do you feel lucky punk?" speech), and some other wonderful musicians including the great Civil War and Western sounding "Theme from Outlaw Josey Wales", by Jerry Fielding, and Erroll Garner's"Play Misty For Me", a gorgeous piano rendition. Some of Clint's own works, included are "Claudia's Theme" from "Unforgiven" "Kate's Theme" from "Absolute Power", "Big Fran's Baby" from "A Perfect World", and of course the mesmerizing and above mentioned "Doe Eyes".
Second half is a 10 part instrumental suite, "Clint Eastwood, An American Filmmaker Suite". This is music composed and conducted by Lennie Niehaus for the PBS "American Masters" documentary " Eastwood: Out of the Shadows" The music tells Clint's story musically, and it flows beautifully and emotionally. It has a little of everyting, including some great jazzy numbers. The orchestration and the musicians capture the journey wonderfully. For list of all 23 track titles, see buying info. You can also listen to samples from there.
The quality of the CD is excellent. A pamphlet with some production notes, and the tracks is included. There are some great pix of Clint as well. It doesn't have ALL his films included. Hopefully the music form "Kelly's Heroes"("Burning Bridges) and "The Beguiled"(more from Lalo Schifrin) will make the sequel album!
Take it in your car and listen to it when you are stuck in traffic, and it will take you somewhere else for a while.Just say "Play Misty For Me" and hit track 8. Highly recommended for the Eastwood fan. And for those that can't get enough, I would also recommend the soundtrack to "Bridges of Madison County". One of the most romantic albums I ever heard.
"Head 'Em Up, Move 'Em On....Keep Them Doggies Rollin...Rawhide!"
Enjoy....Laurie
"Go ahead, make your day!".......2004-06-21
There's really not too much to say about this, except that any big fan of "Clint Eastwood", or at least the majority of these movies should like this. What I enjoy most are the tracks from his westerns, as they all set a nice mood, but the rest are very good as well. I can't help but think this would have been twice as good had it contained dialogue from each of these films too. Overall a great collection for the fan. After all, if there's one thing "Clint" knows about as much as his acting, it's his music.

Great Live album.......2005-12-23
Unfortunately, the Bad Examples never broke out nationally despite their great talent. Their live album is ironically titled given that they mostly played in bars.
Although their studio work was great, what really made the band shine was playing live, and this album almost perfectly captures the experience of one of their live performances, right down to singer Ralph Covert wrapping audiences around his little finger. As usual with the Bad Examples, the tunes are infectuous, particularly "Bad Girl." This album is definitely worth checking out, especially if you're a Bad Examples fan.

absolutely worth owning.......2003-02-15
I have many classical guitar albums, including several by John Williams in solo, duet and concerti, and this is one of my favorites. The playing is virtuosic as is expected from Williams, but the repertoire is varied and includes litte known works, including a Shostakovich duet written for guitar! Some reviewers haven't cared for the "mediocre" compositions from Australia, Ireland and the Americas, but I have to strongly disagree. Brouwer can at times be difficult, but he's hardly a slouch. Besides, if these compositions were worthy to draw the attention of one of the greatest guitarists of all time (and a fine composer in his own right), I think they're worthy of ours!
Buy this album, listen to it a few times for familiarization, and enjoy it for years to come.
Impeccable playing.......2002-08-16
Williams and Kain display their considerable talents in playing with fire and reserve, virtuosity and taste and are generally close to perfect. The De Falla,Granados,Takemitsu,Hand,Soler and Shostakovich works are the standouts. The disappointing part of the album comes with the Westlake,Houghton,Brouwer and Verdery pieces. The greatest playing in the world can't disguise mediocre compositions. This is an overall good album but it does require skipping around a lot of superfluous stuff.
Get this one if you happen across a used copy.
Terrific collection of pieces.......2002-04-01
I have had this CD for several years, and still enjoy it as much as when it was first given to me. It is being passed around the family, as my son owned a copy, then bought me one, and I have just ordered a copy for my daughter-in-law.
Some of the pieces are familiar, but if you persevere, I am sure you will come to enjoy the works that are new to you.
I was sorry to see that one reviewer did not enjoy the Australian works. The Westlake piece [Songs from the Forest] is fairly light and very melodic. If you enjoy it, you should check out his Antarctica music, which exists in several different versions.
Kain's Guitar Trek recordings are also worth hunting for.
Gorgeous world music, in the truest sense...........2002-01-03
John Williams and Timothy Kain, two masters of their chosen instrument, with more in common than just the country of their birth. Kain's guitar teacher at the conservatory in Australia had studied with Williams' father, Len. Williams and Kain first worked together in 1992, and enjoyed the experience. The two men form a complimentary duo in both technique and approach to music. Their playing is flawless. Their duets are seamless.
On this disk, Williams and Kain "journey outside the confines of the classical guitar repertoire." What a magnificent journey it is, too! The Mantis & The Moon contains 18 selections by 12 composers, grouped together by the cultures of the 6 lands they represent...Spain, Australia, Ireland, the Americas, Japan, and Russia.
This is beautiful music performed by two of the greatest guitarists of our generation. These performances go beyond classical, folk, pop or the usual guitar "genre" pieces. Yet the music is lovely, enjoyable, and accessible to the listener. If you love guitar music, you owe it to yourself to pick up this CD.
Mantis and the Moon.......2001-12-13
Williams and Kain play very well as a duo. My favorite pieces on this CD are "Sonata in A," "Capitola," and "Jongo." "Sonata in A" is acoustical honey for the ears, as it epitomises Chopin's comment that nothing sounds sweeter than a guitar--except two guitars. "Jongo" is simply dazzling (but far from simple to perform). However, I don't like the Australian compositions (sorry about that critique of your Aussie mates, Mr. Williams). A few other selections are uninspiring as well. It may come as a surprise, but I prefer the Parkening and Brandon duo's performances of "La Vida Breve" and "Intermezzo" over Williams and Kain. Nonetheless, Williams and Kain put in some fine performances on this CD.

Excellent introduction to the Bad Examples.......2005-12-23
The Bad Examples were one of those amazingly talented bands that never quite made it on the national stage.
For those who know about and like the Bad Examples, this is typically the first album encountered. The song "Not Dead Yet" was covered (badly) by Styx, and the song "One Perfect Moment" received a great deal of airplay on Chicago radio (mostly on WXRT). The Bad Examples combine rock, kitsch-pop and blues in a way that is perky and catchy. Cynical, smart and often funny lyrics contrast sharply with the pop-rock sounds.
If you aren't familiar with this band, I would strongly recommend this album as an introduction to their work. Every song on this CD is eminently listenable and will get stuck in your head for weeks.
If you're a fan and are wondering what happened to them, lyricist-singer Ralph Covert is now doing mostly solo work while the rest of the band formed a blues group called "Blue Balls."
2003 and still a fav!.......2003-05-20
Ralph Covert and Co. never fail to satisfy with great pop/rock sensiblities, even on this early album. Smart, witty lyrics and great writing and musicianship (even more apparent on the live album "Cheap Beer Night", featuring the late guitar great John Duich) from the extremely well crafted rhythm section of Terry and Pickles, and the excellent guitar work of Tommy O'Brian. These guys have sold a ton of albums and toured extensively, but it seems it's mostly the overseas crowd that has given them the appreciation they have always deserved.
I keep close tabs on Ralph and his continuing progressive work, but this CD is always a great reminder of what pros at any level should aspire to.
Bad is Beautiful (all BE records, really).......2003-03-31
Annually, a week-long outdoor music festival takes over Burlington, IA, my hometown. As the main act finished with the main stage, the crowd turns around and starts heading past the "South Stage" to find their cars. On this night, though, as the big act finished, the South Stage lights blasted on in perfect time with the first note from an energitic and (God-forbid) actually fun-sounding singer blasting out a song I knew was an original in the first ten seconds. Most peolple headed to their cars anyway. I didn't. I listened to every note and had one of the greatest concert experiences of my life. It took some work, but over the next week I found all their albums and bought them. A year later they played in the little student union at U of Iowa. My wife and I may have been the only ones there. I talked to the band a lot and listened to yet another great live show. I've since turned many people on to them. They are what music is supposed to be about. You will like them. I have not idea why radio doesn't, except that the actually sound original.
Chi-Town rock at its finest.......2002-01-16
This is a great CD starting with NOT DEAD YET, which STYX did a cover of. I would have to say that every song on this disc is good. I unfortunately never had the pleasure of seeing these guys live. They remind me alot of OFF BROADWAY another great CHICAGO band.
Brilliant -- nice range of real emotions........1998-09-01
This is a rock band that can be snide and true in turns. The way life really is for those who have lost their bloom but frequently reject the term cynic.
[My other favorites are Lyle Lovett, Dire Straits & Lloyd Cole and the Commotions]

Album Description
On their self-titled debut disc, KAMCHATKA (an incredibly kool power trio "riff machine" from Sweden) deliver an awesome set (14 trax - 59 mins.) of heavy duty, get-down bluesy, cycodelic, authentic, retro-70's heavy guitar power trio "riffage" that is unbelievably killer. KAMCHATKA is brain-damaing beyond belief and the REAL deal when it comes down to outstanding killer power trio rock. KAMCHATKA features three amazing players in the form of Thomas Andersson on guitar & vocals, Rojer Ojersson on bass & vocals and Tobias Strandvik on drums. The band work together as a whole musical unit combining guitar-melting solos, slicked-up pseudo-Hendrix grooves with an incredibly powerful tight rhythm section to create a sound that is pure, convincing and all their own. Hitting hard with a fantastic, hard driving, raw, blistering, all-out musical assault and sounding like they landed from 1973, KAMCHATKA have legitimately created an authentic, classic retro-70's heavy guitar power trio vibe.
Thomas Andersson is an amazing gifted bluesy axeripper who makes a powerful musical statement on the guitar. His playing is right up there with the best of them. Serious heavy guitar freaks that are in tune with the Grooveyard know that we are heavily into and support outstanding Swedish axemasters like Clas Yngstrom (SKY HIGH), Emil Fredholm & Christian Neppenstrom of PLANKTON, Thomas Larsson, Janne Stark, etc. Thomas Andersson of KAMCHATKA is no exception and his killer guitarwork is in the same league as those awesome players. They take the guitar seriously in Sweden and stick to their guns (musical roots) without following the latest fads & musical trends. Swedish axerippers are all about the guitar and they know what time of day it is when it comes down to REAL guitar playing. There must be something in the water over there in Sweden!
The KAMCHATKA disc is HIGHLY recommeded to fans of HENDRIX (THE MAN!), TROWER, FRANK MARINO & MAHOGANY RUSH, CREAM, MOUNTAIN, JOHNNY WINTER, CACTUS, STRAY DOG, CAPTAIN BEYOND, BUDGIE and new school power trio players like ERIC GALES, WARREN HAYNES (GOV'T MULE) and FIREBIRD, to name a few. Imagine if FRANK MARINO & TROWER jammed with HENDRIX & CREAM in MAHOGANY RUSH-LAND and you start to get the "musical picture". Kamchatka are the REAL deal when it comes down to seventies guitar god rock and their awesome "live in the studio" version of "I Love Everybody" by JOHNNY WINTER is worth the price of admission alone and will make a true believer out of you.

Very HENDRIX and very good.......2006-12-27
Not quite up to the standard of PLANKTON ( who is ), but not far behind. This is very much in the best tradition of CREAM / HENDRIX and other guitar 3 piece groups from the past. Saying that, these guys don't copy, they create. Although rooted in the classic bands from the past, their sound is more 2005 than 1970.
Getting better with every listen and should appeal to all fans of the aforementioned artists.
heavy blues 70s style.......2006-08-16
Another winner from my favorite record label. This band offers up some amazing hevy guitar playing and the bottom is down and dirty. If you like cream mountain or frank marino this is for you.

Album Description
Calling up My Bad Side is the debut release from Weather. 11 tracks of pop-inflected Post-Radiohead Rock whose potent melodies and adventurous guitars sweep you up like the upswing of a depression. From moody anthems to slow-burning confessionals, Weather's songs put a silver lining on their melancholy and a knowing smile on idle threats, recalling the sounds of The Cure, Travis, and Sunny Day Real Estate. Produced by The A-Team (Evan Brubaker and Troy Glessner) whose credits include Tennis Pro, Joel R.L. Phelps, Holly Figueroa, and Shimmer.

Brilliant power pop with sad lulling lyrics.......2006-04-05
This album is about heartbreak and newfound freedom from the oppression of a bad relationship. Anyone and everyone who has ever been in love that turned to hate can relate to this album. The lyrics on some of the tracks are catchy and wrought with feeling. This is a great album for long road trips! Get a copy and stick it in your CD player and hit the road to another town, another place and leave your ex well behind you!
