On the third and final installment of his 60 Minutes of Funk series, celebrity DJ Funkmaster Flex once again cuts together classic tracks and recent favorites with exclusive freestyle sessions by the biggest names in rap. Flex acts partly as hip-hop editor--smoothly compiling the best and trimming away the rest--and partly as team manager, inspiring top performances from his talented roster. No wonder, then, that Flex's Mix Tape feels like a fast-paced all-star game in which top players take turns getting wild, strutting their stuff, and having fun. With this feast for the short-attention-spanned rap fan, Flex retires from mix tapes while still in top form. As long as rap stays largely a singles genre, though, mix tapes will remain the best value in hip-hop. --Roni Sarig

Customer Reviews:
Funkmaster Flex's worst Volume.......2003-05-01
Funkmaster Flex has had the reputation of laying down some banging beats for hip hop's top stars to freestyle over. But on Vol. 3 there's not enough good beats or good songs to make this album satifying. There are lots of missteps on here, Mariah Carey over Mobb Deep's Shook Ones Pt. 2 beat, Missy Elliot's freestyle over Wu-Tang's Triumph completely ruins the beat, DMX's freestyle ruins the Give up the Goods beat by Mobb Deep. Ice Cube doesn't even drop a verse on the Mack 10 freestyle, he just talks in the beginning of the freestyle. Funkmaster Flex gathered all of these big hip hop stars and didn't milk them for his worth, he also cuts [bad] hip hop and r&b songs together in between. Get Vol. 2 or Vol. 1, they have much better beats and more satifying performances by various rappers.
There is nothing Better!!.......2003-03-11
WOW! I just finished listing to 60 minutes of funk Vol. 3. This is by far one of the best DJ albums of history. It has everyone that you can think of. From Ice Cube all the way to Jay Z and everyone in between. Most of the beats are from previopu songs but are the best. This album definetly shows this is Funik Flex's best CD ever!
My 'white honkey' view.......2001-02-27
this is some good hip hop the DMX song was hot but i'd have to say the terror squad cuts over xzibits 'at the speed of life was a bangin tune
PICK IT UP.......2000-06-11
This is a good cd. Although it doesn't rank up with some of the other funkmaster flex projects in the past, it is a very good compilation. This project blends excellent freestyles with an amazing variety of beautifully laced beats. There's no doubt that this is a well put together lp that is well worth the flex stamp of approval.

Why is everybody getting so excited over Funk Flex.......2000-11-26
Funkmaster Flex doesn't really do anything on the mixtapes. I really like the artists and everything but why does Funkmaster Flex get so much credit. I don't have this CD or anything but I'm just saying this because I know that all the songs on his mixtapes are by various artists. So why would he get all the credit. If he rapped on the mixtapes it would be much. Maybe I should review again after I get one of the mixtapes but right I'm just saying what I already know.
