It's pretty rare for a harmonica player to be a breakout success, but it seems as though Rod Piazza could do it with Keepin' It Real. Speaking of the new album, Piazza told Blueswax, "It's a happening record, one of the toughest and best I've ever done. Part of it is that so many of the songs were recorded live in the studio in one take, but another part is that because we've been doing these songs live, we've really had a chance to learn how to react to each other's playing."

Piazza is consistantly a good player year after year. His backup band continues to grow but I don't think the same can be said for Rod. I think many Piazza fans would love to see recorded more adventerous harmonica such as in the song "Devil Foot". This CD is well recorded (except for two of the songs being out of pitch, which may nag those of us who like to play along)and an honest reflection of what Piazza sounds like live.

Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers are quite simply one of the greatest blues bands in the world. After several successful years on the Tone-Cool label--and some outstanding CDs--Rod and his band have "moved" to Blind Pig. The music is as super as ever.

There are some excellent harp players on the blues scene today, but none are better than Mr. Piazza--his range and technique are astonishing. Like a fine wine, he seems to just keep getting better with the passing years. At the same time, Rod's virtuosity is fully matched by his partner, Miss Honey Piazza, who--in this writer's humble opinion, based on their appearances at Ottawa's annual Bluesfest--is the best "boogie woogie" piano player in music--period. Rod and Miss Honey always seem to have top-notch musicians in their "Mighty Flyers" line-up--currently, there is Henry Carvajal on guitar, Bill Stuve on bass and Paul Vincent Fasulo on drums--all are solid and inventive.

I understand that the tracks on this CD were recorded in one take, to keep them as fresh and spontaneous as possible. As a result, even blues standards such as "Good Morning Little School Girl", "Baby Please Don't Go" and "Pretty Thing" come across with a renewed vigour. Several tracks were written by Rod himself--excellent numbers like "Moving in a West Coast Way" and "West Coast Midnight Blues" give away his California roots, by way of Chicago of course !

In 1991, Rod and the Flyers released a fine CD on Black Top
( Blues in the Dark ), which featured an amazing "boogie woogie" instrumental, "Buzzin'", to showcase Miss Honey's extraordinary talent. It has been a mainstay of the Flyers' concerts ever since--here in Ottawa, the only sound you could hear apart from Miss Honey's piano was thousands of jaws dropping ! On "Keepin' It Real", she updates "Buzzin'" into a more extended version, in keeping with her concert performances. I can tell you--it still blows me away !

Bottom line--one of the best blues CDs of 2004, from the band that never, ever disappoints. Highly recommended !

Just picked it up today from Best Buy, and it smokes. It's bluesy with an up tempo beat that rocks. A great addition to my CD collection!

Keeps Getting Better.......2004-01-23

I have most of Joe Mcbride's other CDs and this is my favorite. The songs are all smooth with that good rhythm which make them so refreshing. All the songs on this cd are great and make it Joe Mcbride's best ever.

Don't let me scratch this cd ! Ya know, I'm always scrathing cd's! God forbid it be in the twilight hours when all the music stores are closed! I have to have Keepin It Real...since the first time I heard it and I thought I just liked it. But later...
when I closed my eyes late at nite after a hard day at the law office with a tight schedule that didn't loosen up all day....I heard that new, now familiar, tune - Keepin It Real - and I pulled up the covers and drifted off relaxed and loose into dreamland. ok, so next morning when I arose and my mind and heart were searching for a melody, I hit track 5 and listened to "His Name" to start my day off right. Can't nobody take away the way I step into the day with style and go out with a smile.

This is one of, if not the best rendition of the Sopranos theme. Outstanding keyboard work throughout! After listening to this CD several times, the songs only get better. My favorites along with the Sopranos theme are, "Never Let You Go" (this has a George Benson flavor-very nice), "Keepin It
Real" and "Kickin It". "When you Smile" is simply a beautiful song, and the piano work along with the soprano sax work is simply masterful and extremely melodic. This is a definitive step up from "Keys To Your Heart".

Camoflauge was one of the best rappers around. His music is still better than most nationally known artists today. He was from an independednt label in Savannah, GA. He was once signed to a major label but was dropped after being incarserated (and later found innocent).

If this scenario had occured only a few years later (after the explosion of 50 Cent and the like), Camoflauge would have been guaranteed instantaneous national recognition. His local releases garnered him amazing loyalty in the region. Camoflauge was shot outside of his recording studio with his baby son in his arms.

When I first heard "Keepin it Real", I was not much a fan of underground artists. I was under the impression that their musical skills were lacking and most were generally stupid. I think I got this impression from the Lil Jon types who don't really ever "say" anything.

Camoflauge showed great lyricism, musicality, and amazing production. "Keepin it Real" is one of the best albums I have ever heard. It is a shame that he was slain before the world really got to hear him.

He rapped about real life and harsh conditions. He also had some fun, lifestyle songs. He wasn't however, bound to the typical "I'm a thug" or "I'm a pimp" style of many rappers. Camoflauge rapped about real issues and profound viewpoints. He was by no means a "concious rapper", but definatley a great rapper. Its easy to tell that he was influenced by 2Pac. His style is very distinct, however. Camoflauge was not just about "thug life". He regulary participated in charity events and gave gifts to area students during Christmas time, dressing up as "Camo-clause".

If you are a fan of rap, you must check out Camoflauge. He will become one of your favorite rappers.

His record label is Pure Pain Records in Savannah, GA. They have many other artists as well.

90's Style 2PAC THUG STYLE MUSIC THAT FEATURES THAT ATL STOMP DIRTY SOUTH 808 KICKDRUMS!!! Boochiano sounds just as tight as Top Authority & Dayton family lyrically. All tracks are bangin'!!! 7 out of 13 of the tracks are smoothe with male & female background vocals!!! My favorite track is "Freakin-A-G" with the female singing background. GET THIS IF YOU CAN FIND IT!!! NO BS LIKE THAT STUFF OUT NOW!!!

A very wellproduced CD overall. Chase vocals are so smooth, my favorite tracks on the CD is Chase - My Heart's Desire, Forget Me Not. Romeo - One More Day and Twice As Nice - Prove Your Love (Big Up NY Mixx) Some edits would been nice and more background Vocals. But overall this CD is worth To Get!

This CD is slammin' folks! Best yet....it features Richie Rosati (National PBS On Air Personality). You may remember him from ABC TV's "Who's The Boss" with Alyssa Milano? His single "Metropolis" is cut #4 and my favorite! Talk about a song explaining the entertainment industry huh????

For all you younger NYHCers, this is he album to get. If you're into to Hatebreed and bands of the like, this is it. Rick and the boy's from 25 ta Life are true pioneers of the scene. Not only are they a great band to see live, but a great band to play with. They may not have been one of the firsts HC bands on the scene, but they did more for it then most. I've had the pleasure of playing with these guys on many occasions. Let me tell ya, they were always willing to help out new bands. So, if you want to hear the roots of bands like Hatebreed, by this album. NYHC underground (or just in general) at it's finest.........Planet Freak!
