Album Description
OPERA IS FOR EVERYONE and so, The Classical Child At the Opera was created to give children a taste of the magic, majesty and humor of this glorious art form. Well-known songs and arias have been selected that appeal to young sensibilities, while easy-to-follow English translations bring these delightful stories and characters to life. Care has been taken by the singers to present the music in a way that is light hearted and accessible sometimes gentle, sometimes raucous, but always positive and engaging.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent teaching tool.......2006-05-10
I use this CD is my classroom for a wide variety of activities including art instruction for which it is ideally suited. It is hard to recommend this CD enough! Thanks for putting it together.
I have only one complaint about this CD.......2006-04-16
My one complaint is that after I listen to this CD, the catchy tunes get stuck in my head! And then I want to keep listening to it more and more. I love the selections on this CD, the fact that the songs are in English (I always wondered what the "Figaro, Figaro, Figaro" song was about!), and that a little background is given to each piece as well.
What every kid (and parent needs!).......2004-02-06
All I can say is my family LOVES this CD! We have a blast singing along, dancing, etc. It's made opera a new discovery for all of us.
What's Opera Doc?.......2003-03-29
No, this isn't Bugs Bunny's version of opera. It is, however, an excellent introduction to opera, for young and old alike. The the translations to English are quite clever, and the singers' voices are, for the most part, excellent and clear (overly florid voices can be such a turn-off). Grant Doyle, the baritone, is a particular stand-out: rather than sing "at" you, he manages to convey humor and emotion in his parts... you can almost *see* the funny bird catcher, Papageno, in the three songs from Mozart's "Magic Flute", which happent to be my 5-year old's favorite tracks. Doyle's turn as Figaro in "Largo al Factorum" from "The Barber of Seville" is pure joy. The children's chorus in "The Children's March" from "Carmen" is also delightful, and Gabriella Santinelli's(?) voice as the doll from Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffman" is simply amazing.
As much as I enjoy this album, I question the inclusion of the last three songs, which come from "Hansel and Gretel". The voices on the songs are of the overly florid nature, and I can see my daughter lose interest. I think it would have been more interesting to include more "Carmen," or arias from other such popular operas "Rigoletto" or "Aida". Or if the album needed to end on a slower note, the overcoat song from "La Boheme."
IAC, I have caught my daughter humming bits and pieces from the operas. Even I have managed to amaze people by correctly identifying the Flower Duet from "Lakme"! I strongly recommend this album.
Lots of Fun Music.......2002-11-29
Our baby seems to enjoy this operatic CD almost as much as her parents enjoy it. Maybe she doesn't even really hear it, but she does see her parents acting silly and singing along to the catchy opera songs. I think we'll be listening to this one for many years to come. You'll probably really enjoy this CD if you have an appreciation for opera already.

Amazon.com essential recording
Pop-country warbler Kenny Rogers's 1999 "comeback" album features a pair of hit singles that returned him to the top of the country charts after a long absence: the lovely, sentimental "Buy Me a Rose" (featuring gorgeous support vocals from Alison Krauss) and "The Greatest," an even more sentimental story-song penned by Don Schlitz, the same celebrated Nashville songwriter who gave Rogers his 1978 smash "The Gambler." Sentimentality is, in fact, the operative word throughout She Rides Wild Horses, particularly on homespun, good-hearted homilies like "Slow Dance More" and the title cut, both of which are delightfully reminiscent of some of Rogers's earliest and best country hits. Of course, this wouldn't be a Kenny Rogers album if it didn't include a couple of smooth, satiny pop-flavored ballads. --Bob Allen
Customer Reviews:
Great Cd.......2006-03-15
This is a great CD if you like Kenny Rogers. He has a really good talent and a great voice.
Must have album.......2005-08-10
This album is a must have for all fans of Kenny Rogers. There are some fabulous ballads on it especially Buy Me A Rose.
Kenny's Great Comeback!.......2004-04-27
I've been a Kenny Rogers fan all my 24 years of life on this planet! And this is the greatest comeback any ledgend can have! This album has some of the best music Kenny has recorded! "Buy Me a Rose" is one of the best! The song actually went to #1 on the Country Charts! Kenny's first #1 since "Make No Mistake, She's Mine" back in the late 80's! But I would suggest this album for any true country music fan!
'The Greatest' country album of the past 10 years.......2003-05-30
I do not consider myself the biggest Kenny Rogers fan. In fact, I have only this and Ten Years Of Gold. This is definetley the greatest country album from the past 10 years.
Slow Dance More- One of the best on the album and should have went farther than it did.
Buy Me a Rose- A number 1 hit. A great love song.
I Will Remember You- I have to say this is better than the original version.
Love Don't Live Here Anymore- The backup singers make a great song an awesome song.
She Rides Wild Horses- 2nd best on album
Kind of Fool Love Makes- Another good love song.
Loving Arms- I enjoyed this song but not the greatest on the album
I Can't Make You Love Me- My least favorite but it's still great
Let It Be Me- excellent ballad
The Greatest- Kenny saved the best for last.
I think Kenny Rogers is the one of the greatest country singers ever and this is one of his best. He had a concert on A&E and I watched it to hear some of his older songs (especially The Coward of the County) and he performed several songs from this album which covinced me to buy it.
Ver good.......2001-07-30
I Like Kenny Rogers because he is a great singer and the music to this cd is very good

Album Description
When Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon released their first single back in 1982 as China Crisis, they were already a unique band, combining Synthpop with sophisticated Pop songwriting. For nearly a decade, they released increasingly mature albums and scored hit singles in the UK. Since then, they've maintained a low profile, releasing only one studio album and playing live sporadically. This album features one of those rare live shows, recorded at the Sir Paul McCartney Academy , Liverpool in 2005. Their set features 18 tracks, concentrating on their later albums like Flaunt The Imperfection, What Price Paradise and Diary Of A Hollow Horse. Dream Catcher. 2007.

Stately and subdued, Mozart Variations joins The Impressionists and Bach Variations as interpretive projects involving Windham Hill artists and a gathering of guest performers. The disc's overall mood is largely reverential, though its periodic departures from tradition are surprisingly successful. Mike Marshall's mandolin-driven "Allegro from the Serenade #13 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusic'" is a dignified charmer, and William Coulter's Celtic embellishments give "Theme from Symphony #40" a lively, unexpected spin. John Lee Sanders engineers perhaps the album's biggest left turn by applying a restrained soprano saxophone to "Et In Carnatus Est (from Mass in C Minor)." Arrangements that most effectively intertwine classical and contemporary influences: a lovely rendering of "Menuett #6" by pianist Liz Story and Paul McCandless's adaptation of "Motet 'Ave Verum Corpus'" for wind instruments and acoustic guitar. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Peaceful and calming for parents and children.......2001-03-15
We picked this up after sampling several of the cuts here at Amazon. We were interested in a way to introduce our 1+/- year old to classical music and add to our drive and naptime repertoire. We couldn't be happier with this CD. The variations reflect the enormous talent and creativity of those arranging and performing on the CD and underscore how timeless music can be! If you like Classical, Jazz, NewAge or Eclectic, this will fit well in your collection!
Very Moving For the Soul Touches the heart.......2000-07-24
I recommend This Album for everybody
Breathtakingly Beautiful, but not for the musical snob..........2000-05-13
Mark my words. This is one of the most beautiful recordings I have ever heard. This is NOT new age, so don't let the label fool you. These are thoughtful variations of some of the most recognized Mozart pieces performed by some of the best contemporary musicians on earth. Most are virtually unrecognizable except for the famously faithful themes running throughout. Lots of historic Windham Hill stable musicians are represented here, along with some hugely talented "guest" artists. The Turtle Island String Quartet, Liz Story, Mike Marshall, Paul McCandless and Michael Manring bring their usual excitement to everything they play, but my favorite piece has to be "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" by the L.A. Guitar Quartet. If their interpretation of this early Mozart doodle fails to draw an eye mist or a lung gasp, then you must be dead! This is too good to languish at the bottom of the Amazon pit. Buy this and live a little.

As a former student of Gene Pokorny, I can attest to his wonderful insight and musicianship. If you are a musician (especially if you play tuba), this is a must-own. This CD dissolves all of the stereotypes...the tuba is just as much a solo instrument as trumpet, flute or any other!

"Memories of You" and an English Folksong To!.......2000-09-24
There is an incredible range of music, from the amazing interpretation of "Memories of You" to Carnival of Venice, its just.............great!
Very nice phrasing........1999-05-20
I first came upon this C.D. when I was in School taking tuba. It is a very good piece to add to one Tuba music collection. The music he choses is excellant and gives a young listener a taste of the range a tuba can play. The disc is recorded in a rather simple matter and you can here the breaths Pokorny takes as he goes on. It adds a very r/t touch to the disc.

You've certainly got to hand it to Kenny Rogers--the guy is irrepressible. After bottoming out as a country-rocker in the First Edition in the 1960s, he soon bounced back as a country-flavored pop crooner in a Nashville leisure-suit disguise in the late 1970s. Then he proceeded to dramatically reinvent himself as one of the most popular easy-listening pop icons of the 1980s. And now that Nashville is once again putting heavy emphasis on the "pop" in pop-country, Rogers, now in his early 60s, has bounced back yet again with a No. 1 country hit, "Buy Me a Rose," from 1999's platinum album, She Rides Wild Horses. There You Go Again, Rogers's 59th album, seems destined to keep his latest comeback in high gear. It's an unremarkable but warmly engaging collection that mixes a few amiable, laid-back country tunes ("Homeland" and the shuffle "Blue Train") with a slew of the cushy piano-framed soft-pop ballads ("Crazy Me," "I Wish I Could Say That," and the lovely "Until Forever's Gone") for which he's best known. Though Rogers's voice is expressive, he knows its limitations as well as anybody. Thus he's surrounded himself with a star-studded host of guest duet partners and harmony singers such as Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Steve Wariner, and Suzy Bogguss. The result is nothing fancy or groundbreaking--it's just Kenny Rogers, the smooth king of the country-pop middle ground, doing what he's always done best, with poise, artistry, and assurance. --Bob Allen
Customer Reviews:
Sorry to say...........Kenny has lost his way.......2002-11-07
I was really looking forward to this new Kenny Rogers cd. I think his previous recording "she rides wild horses" is a superb album. Sadly, this album is no match. The tracks are mainly forgettable or so banal that they are irritating. Maybe it's a grower....i'll let you know if that is the case!.
Really Not a fan.......2001-12-05
I can't say that I bought this album for myself... Im young and never listened to Kenny, but if you have an older loved one in your life, get it for them, its probably going to be the last album that Kenny ever makes so here is your last shot to get something for the Kenny fan in your life.
One Of The Best.......2001-05-24
I have about 60 of Kenny Rogers CDs, and, this is one I keep in the smaller tower holder, because it gets played so much. If you are in love, or were, this is a must have.
One of Kenny's best works!.......2001-01-27
In my opinion, this album is one of his best works ever. The songs on this album are great! And I think they are well recorded. One of my favorite songs on this album is "Crazy Me". Its one of the couple songs produced and written by Richard Marx. I do belive that this album should do as well, if not better than his previous release, "She Rides Wild Horses". I would definately recomend this album to any Kenny Rogers fan or any fan of country music.

This new album,"There You Go Again", gives the Kenny Rogers fan more of what he does best. Great ballads, love songs, and story songs. Guest artists add beautiful harmony to most cuts, but what a nice surprise to hear the powerful twang of guitarist Duane Eddy on "I Won't Forget". That sound just jumped out of the speakers, and Kenny sings with that familiar growl just enough to remind us of those days back when...We won't forget, either.

Fills a terrible void............2007-07-01
If you're like a lot of blues fans, reissues of vintage down home West Coast blues may be an area sadly lacking in your collection (with the notable exception of the many fine Modern/RPM/Flair reissues done by Ace Records in the UK). This fills a nice void by compiling 56 vintage tracks, recorded in Los Angeles and Oakland between 1948 and 1954. Worth it for the Alvin Smith and the Little Son Willis titles alone, in my opinion. While some of this material originally appeared on long-out-of-print Arhoolie albums (thanks, Chris!!!), this collection is sure to become the new standard bearer in the genre. Compiled, and with liner notes by 'Chicago Breakdown' author Mike Rowe. Features a full discography. Designed to compliment the other volumes in this series, with no duplication of tracks. Highly recommended for all blues fans.

Album Description
In the Americas, the sweet sound of the wood flute has captivated the human imagination for generations. In Dream Catcher, composer and master flautist Ron Allen weaves traditional melodies with global influences to create an appealing, contemporary portrait of annual native celebrations. It's an alluring and rhythmic perspective on each of these eight native festivals.

My Best Holiday Find.......2007-01-05
This music is magic. It is relaxing, sensuous and inspiring, all at the same time. I love every note on this CD and give it as presents to very special friends. Thank you, Ron Allen.
A Personal Favorite Year After Year.......2003-01-07
This CD found its way to me as a gift back in 1998. Since the first time I played it I fell in love with it. Year after year I have yet to get bored with this CD, it is the bar by which I measure all other New Age/Native American type music. The only CD that has come close to matching it is Allen's other CD "Secret of the DreamCatcher." Thank you Ron Allen for such a fine piece of work and for anyone considering a new CD add this one to your shopping cart, you will not be disappointed.
some of the most soothing and peaceful music i've ever heard.......2001-08-05
i really love this CD. i fall asleep to it a lot. its very dreamy but every track is destinctive and important in its own way. try putting spring soltance on and lay on the floor staring at the walls. anybody that likes to relax and just open mindedly enjoy music should chck it out. true musical passion.
As close to perfection as music can come!.......2001-05-10
To say anything more would only diminish the sheer joy of this music!
Dream Catcher by Ron Allen.......2000-08-04
I haven't been this pleased with a CD in a long, long time. Ron Allen is truly a master of the Native flutes, and the way it is woven with world instruments is quite breathtaking. I plan to purchase several copies as gifts. Hats off to Ron Allen! Thank you for a truly soulful, uplifting album!

Customer Reviews:
great album but leaves you wanting more.......2007-03-08
ive been a fan of genitorturers for awhile all their albums have been great over the years along with this one but it leaves you wanting more only because it has three new songs and the rest are live songs from previous
albums which are good i would give it a three
The one horrible thing about the Genitorturers..........2004-05-18
is that this seven tracks mini album from 2002 is still their latest CD, 2 years are a very long time for Gen addicts who suffer and crave for more! The album title is really fitting: Flesh Is The Law... and Gen does strictly obey and enforce this rule! The music is somehow in-between the industrial-metal approach of their first album "120 Days Of Genitorture" and their follow up "Sin City" which is different in style, more industrial and techno and less metal. Flesh Is The Law is closer to the harder debut album while the industrial edge isn't neglected at all. So it fits perfectly in the new century without coming even close to the mainstream or nu-metal crap. The beautiful and talented Gen and her troop may be crucified by moralists, but what they do is just being refreshing honest and this puts the band always in a league on the top, a notch above the stage roleplayers who simply think "sex sells". Flesh is the law so she believes, and if it makes her a lecher bitch, then so be it. She's rather the public enemy #1 for telling the truth than a hypocrite. If you can deal with that, THE GENITORTURERS are for you, otherwise you can always opt for Britney Spears. But give it at least a try with them, you won't regret it!
