fiebre.......2003-08-23
This band was to the spanish-speaking world what The Clash was for the anglo rock scene, and this is their "London Calling". It may sound dated in 2003, but back then it was strange and awesome.
Great start from a great band.......2000-06-17
The first time I heard anything from this album was when (by chance) I picked up a music video compilation which included "King Kong Five". At the time I hated it -- now I'm mad at myself for losing the video. Last year I heard something from "Casa Babylon" on the radio and I went online and bought it the same day. Now I've come back round to listening to this album again and I'm completely enchanted.
I wonder if the reviewers below who don't understand how the man who made Clandestino could have made this album have listened to the later Mano Negra stuff. There's certainly a logical progression from early M.N. to the later material, and a fairly seamless move from their last album to Manu Chao's solo album Clandestino (with the understanding that Clandestino is a more populist or folk approach).

What can i say about this album of Mano Negra?A great album from the greatest band ever! With two words:MANO NEGRA!
A different approach to world music.......2000-03-27
The first time I heard a Mano Negra album I thought these guys were outrageous! That album was Puta's Fever and I've been hooked on them ever since. Their sound is a crazy mix of all kinds of music and beats- from rock, to salsa and middle eastern. Heck-I can't even identify all the musical references since they often blend styles (but I would guess there is something very cajun at the beginning of "Voodoo"...). The lyrics range from complete silliness (Magic Dice) to social criticism (Indios de Barcelona)-after all, these are the same guys who went around South America offering free concerts in poor metropolitan areas and backlands! "Pas Assez de Toi" is one of my favorites- it's a more rock n' roll kind of song about being bitter after a break-up...it's got plenty of dark humor in it...These guys sing in English, Spanish, French and Arabic (sometimes a few of these all at once). They're a lot of fun, they're smart and I think there is something for every listener.
great band.......1999-12-09
this is such a good album, way much better than manu's solo. the best from mano negra a band who has influenced a lot of the spanish bands of today

Customer Reviews:
LOVE ULTRA-LOUNGE!.......2007-05-13
Love this kind of music - can't get enough - have most all of the CDs. Excellent New Jersey-based company with excellent foresight and retro-understanding for the best party and jazz combos. Excellent choice for any kind of day or evening, party or relaxation time.
Great for parties, easy to listen to.......2007-04-04
The Ultra-Lounge series is overall is GREAT. I bought a couple of these CD's at first to try out, and also because I wanted to have some nice background music for a dinner party. I immediately purchased 3 more after that, and I'm really pleased. The songs are cool and set a really nice atmosphere if you're having guests over.
I love the Ultra-Lounge series........2006-12-10
The sound quality of the Ultra-Lounge series is excellent, even though the songs were recorded mostly in the 50's and 60's. Capitol Records packs each CD with carefully chosen tracks consistent with the theme of the particular volume in the series. Many of the selections that appear here aren't available elsewhere, either because the original album on which the song appeared is out of print, or because the song was issued as a single and never collected in an album. A few 'previously unreleased' tracks also appear here. This series is a wonderful introduction to the music of a by-gone era, and each album includes detailed notes on each track (artist, writers, date recorded, how released, etc.). I heartily recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this type of music.
One of the better ultra lounge CD's .......2006-06-04
this is a fun CD to listen to. Not a lot of "serious" salsa here, quite a few novelty tunes, but they get your feet moving and your toes tapping. You will enjoy listening to this CD.
Mambo your way to fun.......2004-05-01
Imagine yourself on a wrap-around porch of some grand house basking in the warmth of a summer sunset. Maybe you are simply lounging on a beach with a cocktail in one hand and the hand of the one you love in the other. Perhaps you are in a tuxedo or flaming red cocktail dress and having a wonderfully dry martini (shaken, not stirred) before you get ready to head to the dance floor.
If any of those situations are real or just party of your dreams, this CD from Ultra-Lounge is for you. Rare is the day when you will find some neon decorated, pseudo-tropical paradise lounge or restaurant where drinks were served in coconut cups with little umbrellas. But you can hear the music from them. This CD has the Mambo interwoven in each and every song. You can literally see the band in their white jackets and the lavish costumes on the showgirls as they entertain you.
Yma Sumac drops in for a two song trip down memory lane. You can hear the passion and the fun in her voice. Mariah Carey eat your heart out. The organ tracks are quite amusing, and the Glow Worm Cha Cha will change your life. (Well, not really, but it shouldn't be missed.)
If you ever wanted to visit the famed Coconut Grove or be part of the action with Ricky Ricardo's Band, you need to order this CD. Even if you find that the music is just a throw-back to the days when people in limos were movie stars (and not two girls from Encino using daddy's credit card), it is still a hilarious and joyour romp threw yesteryear.
Fix a highball, add a slice of pineapple, play this CD, and enjoy life.

Ultra-lounge take on the Yellow Magic Orchestra.......2007-05-08
Want to be happy? Want music that reminds you of Arthur Lyman's "Quiet Village",and Yma Sumac, the Peruvian lounge diva of the '50s? Remember Ryuichi Sakamoto's Oscar-winning soundtrack for "The Last Emperor"? Then Senor Coconut's "Yellow Fever" suits all these purposes...including music to accompany cocktails.
Senor Coconut's "Yellow Fever" is the ultimate ultra-lounge take on the Yellow Magic Orchestra, just as "El Baile Aleman" was the ultra-salsa lounge version of Kraftwerk. Senor Coconut brings his masterful, kitschy, retro treatment to new wave of electronica..and succeeds again. There are even Japanese cymbals and gongs added to his Latin orchestra. He transforms "Simoon" into a laidback tropical anthem, perfect for a tiki room. "Yellow Magic","Pure Jam" and "The Madmen" sound like they come from "The Incredibles" soundtrack. There are interludes, as if it were a radio show, such as the funny "Mambo Numerique" and "Coco Agogo." "Yellow Fever" is the perfect soundtrack for reading, writing, resting, drinking cocktails....it's cheery music! If you want to feel happy, come down with the Yellow Fever!
Another great album from El Hombre de Coco.......2007-01-27
A different feel from his earlier albums, but definitely in the same genre of latinized goodness. This album will lift you up on a bad day; lots of humor and good music here. If you're a fan, buy this immediately. If not, give it a shot, or try Fiesta Songs (which is a little more accessible). Observant Towa Tei fans will hear the disctinctive sound of his favorite digitizer.
Yellow Magic Orchestra Gone Bananas (in a good way).......2006-06-27
It was a couple years back that electronic music producer Uwe Schmidt (aka Atom Heart) decided to take on the music of Kraftwerk and rework it through the focusing lens of cha-cha and meringue music. The resulting El Baile Aleman was much more fun than it really should have been (at least, coming from a fan of the originals), and Schmidt managed to create some more fun music in the same style on further albums (which were mainly comprised of original compositions).
Senor Coconut & His Orchestra are now back again with another batch of "electrolatino" songs, and this time the group is covering another seminal group in Yellow Magic Orchestra. To make things even more exciting, he's joined by all three YMO group members on the release (including Oscar and Grammy winning Ryuichi Sakamoto). The result is another album of insanely detailed music that is easily the most developed work done under the pseudonym yet.
At twenty one tracks in length, the album is broken up into shorter interlude pieces that more or less gather together prime guest spots into random bits of filler, while longer YMO covers actually form the real backbone of the disc. "Yellow Magic" opens the disc and features some maniacal vibraphone workouts (as most tracks do) along with some blistering horns and vocals from Jorge Gonzalez that lift the track into delightful territory. "Limbo" is even more tight, rolling together breathy vocals, punctuated rhythms, and horn bursts into a three and a half minute package.
Not afraid to stretch out a bit, "Simoon" (which also features contributions from Mouse On Mars) is a laid-back track that melts some wah-wah horns over a softly swaying island hammock backdrop. On the other side of the coin is the hyper-fast "Rydeen," which pulls together vibes, vocals, and rapid-fire horn bursts together in a way that sounds almost impossible to not be programmed. As mentioned above, there are short (usually about thirty seconds or so) interludes between every single track on the album, which feature contributions from everyone from Towa Tei to Akufen, and the pieces (which contain everything from glitch to field recordings) sometimes provide an odd and satisfying breather while at other times feel completely out-of-place. Fortunately, the songs that comprise the bulk of the release more than outweigh any unpleasant pieces, and there's always the skip button.

An awful mix.......2002-11-19
I bought this CD thinking that I will get all the hit latin songs in one collection, never ever thought that a company like Ploygram International / Universal music will put together a club mix instead of the original songs, even the singers don't seem to be original. One who has heard the original numbers will find this CD a total waste of money and it is not cheap either. My recommendation - don't even think of buying this CD.
The best Latin compilation EVER.........2000-09-13
When my best friend gave me this CD to listen to my first thought was "Oh no not another latin CD" because I was so bored with latin music but when I listened to this CD I realized that it was a fresh breeze. The compilation of songs is excellent. All my favorite Latin songs were there. On every new CD (like Ricky Martin and E.Iglesias) I only liked a couple of songs and I found them both on this CD. IT'S A MUST BUY FOR LATIN MUSIC LOVERS.

Music: Good. Engineering and Mix: Bad.......2002-06-07
There is some great music on this CD, but the vibrance and brilliance of the music is lost and masked by the very poor quality of the engineering and mix. "Pregon de Chocolate" is a great hit that has been done by other artists (recently, Issac Delgado on is "La Formula" CD), and there are other great hits, too. But I am disappointed whenever I play it because of the way it was mixed.

Fun.......2006-05-30
This CD is really good. To me, the only real problem is the cover. All the belly dancers I know would be apalled to think that this is the image our fellow dancers are putting out there. A woman in a bikini does not do justice to our dance form. The music is really fun, and it definetly leans towards the way belly dancing is headed. I have heard a few of these songs before, but mostly, I haven't heard of them, which is something I like, especially for a performance. I want something unique, and this has a lot of that. So I say, it's perfect except for the cover.
Don't judge a CD by it's cover!.......2005-02-07
Despite the strange choice of cover model (what's with the woman in a bikini?) the music on this CD is EXCELLENT! I put off buying this CD for a long time because I was put off by the cover and figured the music would be aweful. Then one day I decided to listen to the music clips in the store and when I heard them I just had to have this CD! This is some of the best middle eastern "pop" music. While I wouldn't say it is the best music for performance (unless you have a venue where dancing to pop music isn't frowned upon) it's still great for listening to, practicing zils, jamming to, or usinging in class. Great music to get people dancing!
habibidah.......2003-07-20
this song is really too good when ilisten it i feel that i m in hevean
Belly Dance Fever.......2003-04-11
I absolutely LOVE this CD.
The cover has alot to be desired. A Bellydancer places alot of value in her costume. You won't see a Bellydancer dancing in a bikini.
However, the music is really good. Alot of it I've heard before on Link TV. They run international music videos on that channel, so if you want to get a good flavor for the type of music on this CD, try to catch their music block on LinkTV. When they have music from Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, etc... that's the kind of stuff you'll hear on this CD.
This is more along the lines of popular music in the middle east. There's alot of fast music on this CD. There are a few slower selections, but not many.
Its definitely a fun CD, though.
For a well rounded Belly Dance music collection, you'll want to pick up a few other CD's. This one is the best music in my opinion, but its not quite as easy to dance to as some others on the market.
Its very enjoyable, I like it alot. I definitely recommend picking it up.
