A collection of well-known pop tunes, this record documents those ubiquitous tracks that have been played into the ground at nearly every sports facility in the country. Most, like "Whoomp! There It Is" and "Hip Hop Hooray," are undeniably catchy, and other tracks were downright splendid when they first appeared on the scene. Some even credit "Pump Up the Volume" with being a breakthrough for the electronic music scene of the late '80s and early '90s. Still, bringing musical innovation to light is not what the makers of this recording had in mind. It's all about the trashy glitz, fleeting glories, and mindless greed of late-20-century American sports. Revel in its dubious charms, and risk having your brains turn to mush while a permanent grin takes over your face. --Matthew Cooke

A trip back..........2007-05-05
I first heard this mix only very recently, in a long cab ride, and begged begged the driver to let me buy the disc from him. He refused, but let my friend run into his apartment and upload it into his iTunes. I have since bought the disc, and love it soooo much. It's upbeat, loads of fun, yes, great for cleaning the house to. But really, it brings me back to the days of middle school, going to school dances and buying cassette singles with my friends on the weekends...just being care-free and being a kid. I had been feeling nostalgic for those days lately and this disc captures my youth perfectly!
Great for Fitness Classes.......2007-01-26
I'm a PE teacher and my students LOVED doing circuit training to this CD. Every song is super upbeat. It really helped get my classes motivated. I wouldn't buy this CD for general listening music but for fitness it's definitely my favorite.
Have some respect........2006-08-07
This is not music. Have some respect. If you like this you are probably an idiot jock who thinks the middle east is somewhere near Kansas. Please America, wake up.
Whooooooooooomp! Here's the review!.......2005-12-20
Tell-Tale Bonanza's back again!! I'm a total jock if you already didn't know, my resume speaks for itself. This cd is not only great for sporting events, but works well at any social gathering. There's just something that is beautiful about seeing Lupus Fury do the tootsie roll. Let me tell you a little bit about Lupus Fury. You may be wondering how he got such a nick-name, well let me break it down for you... Lupus- is latin for "Wolf" and we all know that he's hairy like a wolf, and stinks like the Cumberland river. Fury- anger, violence, rage. that sums him up right there, the man has 8 restraining orders, and is a registered sex offender (we still laugh about that to this day) So now we know Lupus, a hairy wolf like angered man, don't get near him during a full moon either, he might hump your leg, but he gets more action than teen wolf (thanks to me). Our parties are just a big spectacle, we really do put on a show. When the song "You're Unbelievable oh!!!" comes on,Big Frank will put on a gymnastic routine that will leave you wondering why he wasn't on the olympic squad in 96 (steroids). Chubby Lou is in charge of running the party (there's never a shortage of cheap booze and hot pockets) and doubles as the bouncer, you don't wanna catch one of his famous DDT's, little-known fact, Chubby Lou used to be an amature wrestler (they said he was too fat) and had a stint as Barry Horrowitz tag team partner in 88. Cheese Grits doesn't really have any talent, we just thought he had a cool name so we let him in the clique, but he can juggle, so we get him tanked up and make him juggle by the end of the cd we circle around him and sing along to gary glitters "duh nuh nuh nuh nuh HEY!!! duh nuh nuh nuh!!!!" and so on, he has a look of terror on his face, but it's totally worth it. by that time we settle in, and there's about a 10-3 girl to guy ratio, some of us score real big, whoever is lucky enough to make it to my room, gets to personally here "Gonna make you sweat" by C & C Music Factory. Now that you see the power that this cd holds, I hope you would go and buy it (or steal it from your P.E. teacher, like I did).
Fun for the gym.......2005-08-29
Jock James is a great fun CD, no seriously well written music but come on it has at least three songs with the word PUMP in them. What a fun album!

Get connected.......2007-04-22
I really like this Cd, it's a classic, with the title track to be one of those that will live forever. I think Stereo MC's are also worth checking out for some of their other, underrated work.
Fans can never be objective..........2006-04-21
From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...the perfect melting pot of rap and funk. It's impossible to skip over even one track on this CD.
A little unimaginative... but better than I expected........2006-02-23
Bought this CD for one track (connected)... a little early 90s nostalgia.
Not exactly one of my all time favorites, but a good CD for cleaning the house...
Good Driving Music.......2005-09-23
I must say the only reason why I initially bought this album was because of the nostalgia of "Connected" and "Step It Up". After listening to the album though, I was pleased to discover a few gems like "Ground Level", "Playing With Fire" and "Pressure". But unfortunately those are the only songs that really stick out. The rest is just background lounge music. That said, this is still a decent album to listen to - especially on a long drive. I would have given this 2 stars out of 5, but I had to give it an extra star solely on the basis that this it is undeniably quite a creative and original record.
Amazing!.......2005-07-26
I love the Stereo MC's because they provide me with what I feel is missing from most other Hip Hop & Hip Hop influenced Pop and that's good musical production, a variety of sounds and instruments, vocals & lyrics that don't rely on blatant swearing and mindless lyrics about "bitches and hoes", crime, drugs, etc...
I like all the tracks except 3, and the only thing I dont like about track 5 & 13 is the female vocals. My favourites are 1, 7 & 11. By the way, if you like these guys, you might also want to check out the Fun Lovin' Criminals.

Timeless classic that marked a grand transition out of the 1980s into the 1990s!.......2006-05-27
Is it just me or is 1989's "Pump Up The Jam" among the most innovative dance records that I've ever heard even listening it today. The title track is universally popular even today and it's clear why! It is just an incredible and powerful jam for the dance floor. Other songs are the spunky "Come On" as well as the similar track "Rockin To The Beat". Get this CD today!
Great album.......2004-02-23
This CD is perhaps old but it's still great to listen today. It's one of the classics of eurodance and no one will change it. I really enjoyed every track on this album : if you like one track, you will like all of them because they are similar. My favourites are PUMP UP THE JAM, GET UP [BEFORE THE NIGHT IS OVER], TOUGH, COME ON, THIS BEAT IS TECHNOTRONIC, ROCKIN' OVER THE BEAT and MOVE THIS. The best of these tracks is THIS BEAT IS TECHNOTRONIC : a great "classic techno" track that will make you dance, the band did an amazing job with this track, I love it. But I also listen to the others. A good purchase that you won't regret if you listened and like one track from that album.
Techno-Tragedy.......2001-10-16
Ever since Solid Gold has been taken off the air I have constantly struggled with ways to fill up my evenings. I have passed the time by using various outlets such as needlepoint, playing Battleship (alone), and most recently I dipped my pen into the inkwell that is Tae-Bo. But since the hamstring injury that I recently suffered has prematurely cut my Tae-Boing career short, I have been met with extreme difficulty in passing my nights. Luckily for my while I was expressing my thoughts on a VH1 message board, I saw one constant group's name being tossed about with an enormous amount of popularity. This "Limp Biszkit" as they were called seemed to be accumulating an unbelievable amount of attention. I hurried down to the shop where records can be purchased and I sampled a "Limp Biszkit" release. The anger and angst that flooded my body was so intense I was forced to throw my headphones to the floor in order to maintain my sanity. In my fit of dismay I bolted down to the local emporium and much my ear's delight I was met with the enchanting sound of "Pump Up the Jam" that was my musical savior at this low point in my life. Wasting no time, for my musical life was endangered and I feared that I may never again be able to listen to "Terrence Trent D'Arby" or "Sade" in the same manner, I purchased the "Pump Up the Jam" album by the group Technotronic. As I excitedly pressed play on my Sony Home Entertainment system, I was expecting a musical revelation but what I got was nothing more than empty hopes and dashed dreams. I was paralyzed by what I had heard and I was unable to stop the car crash catastrophe that was ensuing. Every new beginning to each song turned out to just intensify the horrible end to my musical manliness. I have never in my life looked at my home entertainment system with so much disgust. This appliance had given me so much enjoyment in years past that I could only sit and sulk on my dirty brown recliner. It took me weeks upon weeks to recover and I replied to the trash that my home entertainment system dished out to me, that I threw my my system in the garbage bin. I have moved far enough along in my recovery process that writing this review is a form of therapy and hopefully I will be able to steer away possible purchasers away from making a mistake that may prove to undo their life. So I must merely say "You're Welcome."
Essential.......2000-09-12
This CD is a must-have for any serious fan of club/house/techno music. Technotronic was revolutionary in their treatment of the genre, and their sound is a great example of the late 80's/early 90's club scene. Definitely a pivotal album in the history of dance music.
Best Album.......2000-08-18

Once En Vogue proved that old-fashioned gospel-soul female harmonies could create sparks with modern street beats, every record company went looking for young singers to hook up with new-jack-swing producers. Those efforts bear fruit with SWV, which stands for Sisters with Voices, and the three teenaged singers from New York really do have great pipes, capable of a distinctive sound that can dominate a production rather than the other way around. Cheryl "Coko" Gordon, the trio's lead singer, boasts a great range that allows her to sound tough and sultry in her gritty alto, and romantic and flirty in her trilling soprano. SWV's debut album includes 13 different songs, plus two alternate mixes, and the best tracks are the 10 written and produced by Brian Alexander Morgan, who knows how to create the melodies that all great harmonies must start with. The first single, "Right Here," features a very funky, push-and-pull rhythm track, but the three singers reclaim the song with harmonies that are very percussive themselves but with lots of melody and romantic personality as well. The single, "Weak," is a ballad that allows Gordon to confess her infatuated weakness without ever sounding like a weakling as she hits the beats confidently and purrs in anticipation. --Geoffrey Himes
Customer Reviews:
Great Debut..........2007-03-22
This is a great start to SWV's career but their second album "New Beginning" was their best album to date. On this album they had a lot of smash hits like "Weak", I'm so Into You, "Downtown",and "Human Nature". They had a few uptempo songs that sounded good, but they exceled on their ballads "It's About Time" and "What I Need". All the SWV fans should have this album and SWV is working on some new material so look out for them.
F.Y.I. Check out Lelee's interview on life after SWV in April 2007 edition of Sister 2 Sister magazine. You will be moved.

one of the stand-out albums of the 1990s girl group invasion!.......2006-02-19
"It's About Time" takes me back to my young days, as a pre-teen. I remember well, listening to tracks on this album, on our local R&B radio station. What made SWV stand out, as a trio, was their great ability to blend different voice types together. They all had lower voices, but Coco, in particular, demonstrated her command of her lovely alto range. This is heard especially on tracks like "I'm So Into You" (with the infectious hook, and catchy melody) and "Weak" (which was later covered by that teen pop star, JoJo---their version is FAR superior to hers, by leaps and bounds). My favorite cut is "Right Here (Human Nature Remix)." This combines a sample of "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson, with their lovely vocals.
These are the types of songs you put on, when you and your sweetie are getting together for a romanctic evening. Just turn the tracks on, pour the wine, and enjoy these Sisters With Voices. ......

The sequel to 2002's Verve Remixed follows and improves upon the original's formula; take material from the storied vaults at Verve Records and let top DJs of the modern era have at them. Featuring an impressive roster of dance artists like Miguel Migs, Koop, and Fila Brazillia, the trick is matching DJ with jazz standard in a way that compliments both. It's a tough chore, given the classics involved and the need to do them justice. On Sarah Vaughan's "Whatever Lola Wants," Gotan Project manage the task with distinction, filtering rustic and romantic accordions through the song's lusty machinations. Astute choices are required, like Mondo Grosso's decision to build a solid thump out of just the central melody of Archie Shepp's "Blues For Brother George Jackson." Sometimes, the best thing to do is get out of the way; Mr. Scruff's Soul Party Mix of "Do What You Wanna" only adds some background party noise to Ramsey Lewis' ripping keyboard solo. VR2 doesn't hit the mark every time, but the combinations that work accomplish what only the best dance music does--they crumble the walls between genres and encourage us all to get down together. --Matthew Cooke
Customer Reviews:
Five stars for one song.......2007-07-04
this CD is hit or miss. Mostly miss for me. However there is a big but in here. Big enough to give it five stars. If you are an Ella fan you have to part with the cash to hear what has been done with Slap that Bass. That one song is worth the price of admission
Volume 2.......2007-04-10
The first "Verve/Remixed" focused on Divas, mostly those of the Jazz genre. This disc deviates from that enjoyable formula by expanding to female pop singers, male vocalists, and instrumentalists.
VERVE/REMIXED 2 consists of 14 newly remixed songs. Disc packaged in clear jewel case; total running time: 72:08. Booklet does not include information about the original recordings (not even songwriting credits).
There are once again two remixes of Nina Simone recordings. There are also two Ella Fitzgerald recordings remixed. Several instrumental tracks are remixed - I don't get the point of that, but they are included here.
This sequel is not nearly as good as the original.
THE Verve.......2007-02-07
overall great album, my favorite of the series...
just the right tempo and selection of artists make this a perfect album for a chillout but up-beat enough session without falling asleep
Another good package.......2005-12-21
This is the second remixed CD from the Verve Remixed series. These tracks are still well mixed but I do find a few tracks which are quite noisy (a bit over-the-top). Still, I think there are enough good dance tracks to keep this CD in your stereo for sometime. If you are asking for more, then try getting the 'Complete Verve Remixed Box-Set' which comes in a package of four (3 + 1) CDs.
Yes!.......2005-11-06
So I don't listen to this kind of music very often, and I apologise if I'm being naiive or ignorant, but this is an extremely good CD. The first 5 songs are some of the best music I've heard in a long time, and I will definitely be picking up Remixed 3 after hearing this.

I love this CD, this is actually a replacement, as my first one dissapeared. This is a great CD to listen to during dinner parties, while driving, anytime! He is such a great performer - can't wait to see him again!
Not what I would have expected ............2006-09-30
All of dave koz previous cd's where great but when i heard this one it seems like most of the music is random sax playing just so he could fill up the cd " Honey Dipped" " All I see is you" and " One last Thing " are the songs that make the cd sell, the rest is just there so there could be more than 3 songs

90'a RnB reigns supreme!.......2007-01-26
This is one of the MANY amazing RnB albums that came out during the 1990's that had that jazzy/hiphop flavah. "Tell Me" is a powerful timeless song that I still bump to this day. "Keep Trying" is incredibly uplifting!
The only thing I don't like is that "Baby Luv" version on the CD is NOT the soulful groovy club version that bumps harder. The CD version is like some kind of throwback version. I don't really care for that one. Other than that this CD is tight.
But download the grooovy 'Just a touch'-sampled "Baby Luv". ;-)
THE BEST...OF THE SOULFUL ALBUMS.......2006-08-31
THIS ALBUM IS WORTH HAVING IN YOUR COLLECTION EVERY JAM WILL HAVE YOU REMEMBERING SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE...
Chill out soft jazz soul fusion.......2006-08-01
Great album to chill to. Nice soulful jazzy tracks. Great to have in the music collection.
It's Rare.......2006-07-08
I have listened to alot of cds in my time, and I have to say that "Groove Theory" is one of those rare times that all the music on the cd sounds fantastic. I have to admit, that I am taken back even more by this cd now that I am older and can appreciate the messages in the music.
If Groove Theory was just an experiment, it was, and still is successful.
Sure could use some of this in the RnB arena now..........2005-11-09
When I was in fifth grade back in 1995, I vividly remember the single "Tell Me", by the duo (Amel Larrieux & Bryce Wilson) Groove Theory being played on the radio. I was happy to discover when I purchased this album last week with my best friend (another music freak) that not only was that track still golden, but that the record itself was satisfying in 2005!
There is a great sense of melody & groove here. Utterly infectious, beat driven, yet not hollow. I wouldn't call the music heavy handed, but it isn't to soft either. Lyrically, the words move from romantic to urban fairy tales; not all of these ending happily, but always with a glimmer of hope. Amel's voice is gentle, yet doesn't get lost in the arrangements. Almost like a chameleon on a wall changing colors rapidly, Amel voice matches the lyrics & musical production (good job Mr. Wilson, where are you now?) of each track.
So, to cap off this extremely short & 'fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants' review, if you like quality RnB, pick this up.

Heavy Funk and big-time Soul.......2007-07-24
I couldn't tell if this was a good CD or not from the sample tracks. But man was I surprised when I cranked this up on a 300 mile drive to New York last week! The range and genre changes (raggie,disco,jazz/r&b) is amazing. My favorite is "Sex God". It's a real "come-and-get-me" song that N'Dea Davenport pulls off at her sultry best! Got to see them at the Capitol Jazz festival in June. TBNH turned the joint out and in the rain no less!
wow, tough crowd.......2007-04-02
boy, i don't get some of these reviews at all. this cd is amazing! every track is a mini-masterpiece, and n'dea has never sounded better. i am particularly enamored with the track, "I've Been Touched," which starts out sweetly low-key but steadily builds into a good old jam. if you've ever been a fan of The Brand New Heavies, you can't go wrong with this disc.
A Blast From The Past.......2007-03-29
Like one of the previous reviewers added: this is a real group playing real instruments. This CD is a wholesome change from whats out there now musically. They bring back that natural funk flavor. Out of the 12 songs 9 are really solid (1,2,3,6,7,8,9,11,12). My favorites were "Get used to it" no.3 & "We won't stop" no.6. The 8th joint takes a thinly veiled shot at the techno enhanced music of the day. On the 7th cut they actually mention how they were attempting to bring funk back into music. N'dea returned with superb vocals after a long hiatus. She put icing on the cake, and she's still as seductive as ever.
Brand New?.......2007-03-11
I first saw them on BET Jazz--singing one song and fell in love with them. I like this cd a lot!

A Fine Malt Album To Drink On!! (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-01-18
Some people my call these Irish White Guys a one hit wonders, because of the song "Jump Around". Believe it or not, that was the very first rap song I heard (maybe it was LL's "Momma Said Knock You Out", anyway...), and I remember my mom constantly telling me to stop jumping on my bed, when ever that song was playing. For some reason I think that song came out a while before this album came out, I'm not exactly sure.
House Of Pain consists of Everlast (you might know him as "Whitey Ford"), Danny Boy O'Connor, and DJ Leathal, and they took this music real serious back in 1992. The album was produced by DJ Muggs (of Cypress Hill) and DJ Leathal. They had many good songs here to prove that their lead single was not the only good song on here. "Top Of The Morning To Ya" would be one of the standouts here on this album. "House And The Rising Son" is another good song that has a nice beat and featured Son Doobiest. A good favorite of mine would be "Shamrocks And Shenanigans (Boom Sha Lock Lock Boom)", becasue it has a catchy hook. I think that was their second single. If it wasn't, it should have been.
There are some wack moments on here though. First, thier rhymes are not on point most of the time. A lot of songs on here, Everlast makes refrences to puffing blunts. Also there a few bad songs on here towards the end, like "Put On Your Sh** Kickers", and "Feel It" is another forgettable one.
There are two remixes on here. "Jump Around" would be remixed by Pete Rock, but I like the origonal better if you ask me. "Shamrocks And Shenanigans" would be remixed by Butch Vig, and have a rock sound that I really wasn't feeling at all.
Overall, this is a dope CD. This group would make two more albums, "Same As It Ever Was" (1994) and "Truth Crushed To Earth Shall Rise Again" (1996), then split up. DJ Leathal would join the group Limp Bizkit. Everlast (who I just found out he had an album back in 1990) would do some experimental contry/rap music and make a few albums, and be dissed by Eminem later on. I really haven't heard much from Danny Boy. But this is the album that put these Irish guys on the map, and accepted by rap and hip hop listeners. I still drive around bumping "Jump Around" like it was the newest song that just came out. This proves that there were some white rappers who had respect for the craft for hip hop and rap music (unlike some of the ones floating around today), and I recommend that you give this a listen. This trio had fine malt lyrics on this CD, but there are some on this CD that might leave your mouth dry.

first everlast.......2006-11-02
Although this is not the first work by "Whitey Ford", it is the first mainstream public exposure to his style in "Jump". If you listen to the album with an open mind, you will find it to be a fair example of somewhat jazz fueled beatnik music...mixed with hip hop krunky chunky beats and grooves. I would have given this cd more than 3 stars, but the under-production hinders it somewhat...lending a raw quality that I would trade for better sound...plus "EVERLASTS'" cds get better with each attempt. Check out "Whitey Ford Plays The Blues.
NOTE: I don't know why my screen name is "The Bookie"...what the hey!!
good vintage tunes.......2006-02-25
some of the tracks on this album are iffy, but some are good if you wanna have a few brews and enjoy some rap with your irish heritage in mind. it also puts you in a mindset back in the day to the early 90's, which if you remember was a very fresh time to be chillin.
JJJJJJJJJJump Around!!!!!.......2006-01-21
The trio, Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Leathal, steered away from the norm to give us a damn near classic. Before Eminmem came out white boys were not regarded as serious, besides this group of Irish fellas. Catchy hooks, phrases and simple rhymes did it for the frontman and emcee Everlast. There is a lot of drinking, partying and good lyrics without the shoot 'em up, bang, bang. What kept this from being a classic is some of the samples and solid production to back the fine malt lyrics. Considering this is a 1992 release, it doesn't collect dust in my collection. We all know that the song Jump Around is a C-L-A-S-S-I-C!, Put Your Head Out featuring B-Real is a tight Irish Bangin' classic featuring mi homie B-Real, Shamrocks & Shenangans is a tight Boom Shalock Lock Boom joint, Jump Around (Pete Rock Remix) is a decent remix with a east coast feelin', now Everlast sure has changed from an Irish rapper to an um? white trash bum star? The only good solo by Everlast was "What Its Like", also unlike Eminem, Paul Wall, Bubbah Sparx & the Beastie Boys, House Of Pain are not like those other white rappers that are whack!
House Of Pain go Shamrocks & Shenangans on joints 1, *2, *3(featuring B-Real), 4, 6, *7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, *18 & 19.

Director Doug Liman (Swingers) tells the story of a day in the life of a botched drug deal that includes supermarket checkout girls, soap opera actors, and a British expatriate. Dawson's Creek's Katie Holmes, Armageddon's William Fichtner, and The Sweet Hereafter's Sarah Polley are among the stars. No Doubt leads things off with the unremarkable "New," the band's first single in two years. Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" is given a 1999 remix by Philip Steir, which means lots of stuttering beats, turntable swipes, extra beats, and inane noises. Fatboy Slim uses the same methods, but "Gangster Tipping" is a more appropriate context. Esthero with Danny Saber delivers the atmospheric "Song for Holly." Goldo is rightfully nightclub sleazy with "To All the Lovely Ladies." DJ Rap has an '80s synth groove mastered for "Good to Be Alive." The French band Air work a subdued vibe for "Talisman," the soundtrack's most sublime moment. --Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite soundtracks.......2007-06-15
I liked the movie, but I like the soundtrack better. Very good.
Go.......2007-05-13
This is one of the best CD ever! This one will definetly get your party moving!
Fun 'cult' album!.......2006-10-05
Whilst watching the movie it came to me how well the score was chosen, it really adds something to the movie. As in most good movies where they pay a little attention to the soundtrack you can't help but notice. Most tracks are fun listening to on their own, but if you've seen and liked the movie it's definitely worth buying. Some here think it's mediocre, to me it's more 'cult' á la the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. It's nothing too heavy or serious, but just good fun. And what's wrong with that? ;-)
Real Mediocre Late 90's stuff.......2006-07-21
1998, probably the most boring year ever for pop music and this soundtrack reflects it. If you like No Doubt and Matchbox 20 and such you'll love this one. They could have at least put in some cool techno considering the movie revolves around clubbers. Buy the movie and not the soundtrack.
It's got some good songs........2005-10-25
I've never seen this movie, but my wife loves this CD, and as a result I've heard it a lot. Some of the songs I could live fine without forever. Others are fun.
No Doubt is a band that could cease to exist without altering my life in the least, and their song on here's about what you'd expect from them. If you like them, you might like this. If not....
"Steal My Sunshine" by Len is a fun little summer ditty with female backing vocals, a weird Aqua-type male vocalist, and a jaunty piano line.
And "Gangster Tripping" by Fatboy Slim is probably the soundtrack's best selection--the only one I really love. It starts with hard looped rapping and bursts into horns and beats and turn-table swishing, and stays hip and danceable throughout.
The rest of the album's songs are, for the most part, a mix of hip-hop-sampling techno acts. Some are decent, but they're not exceptional.
I'd recommend just getting "You've Come a Long Way, Baby," the 1998 Fatboy Slim album that "Gangster Tripping" appears on. But that's just my opinion.
