Blues, Boogie, and rock and roll all in one cool CD!.......2007-06-22

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.

Although from the U.K. Foghat in terms of sales and popularity would call America home. When the new group formed three of the four members had played with the British blues based Savoy Brown ("Lonesome" Dave Peverett on guitar and vocals, bassist Tony Stevens, and drummer Roger Earl). The new project enabled them to flex their muscles a bit further. They would be loyal to the blues but could rock out a bit more. Rod Price guitar, slide guitar, and vocals solidified a solid lineup.

"Energized" is the bands third album. It finds them clicking on all cylinders. From the brilliant opening track, a cover of "Honey Hush" to the end of the ride with "Nothin' I Wouldn't Do" there is remarkable consistency.

"Step Aside" tilts to the rock and roll spectrum but the vocals give you a taste of the blues. Peverett and Price are terrific players and have gotten accolades over the years but overlooked is their ability to be authoritative singers in and out of the studio.

"Golden Arrow" mixes the blues with a cool rock and roll riff. The tune is enhanced by a vocal effect. Listen closely to how well it fits the construction of the song.

"Home In My Hand" is why the album is energized. A blowtorch in your face that doesn't loose steam.

"Wild Cherry" in parts could remind you of the Yardbirds "Train Kept A Rolling." Blues and rock that keep you on board for every note.

"That'll Be The Day" is the Buddy Holly hit. A bit updated here but they pay homage to an influence short and to the point!

"Fly By Night" with a strong vocal and well balanced instrumentation is another quality tune.

"Nothin' I Won't Do" ends the festivities and leaves a blues calling card. A nice finish to a strong set of songs!

Still their best!.......2003-12-17

Yes, 'Fool For The City' had the hits, but it was a little more 'pop' than this album. Taken as a whole, "Energized" rocks as hard, yet manages to be more varied in its approach (check out the funky landscape of 'Step Outside') without going to extremes, making repeat listens a lot more desirable. Their no-nonsense, non-gimmicky style seems to appeal to just about anyone who apprecites 70s-style rock. I bought the album in '74 and now have the CD....it is still one of my all-time favorites.

Great Foghat.......2002-09-08

This album is one of Foghat's finest ever. This mix of hot originals and driving covers has no ballads and never slows down. The best track on the album has got to be "Step Outside", which is a strong encouragement to do all of that which life has to offer, but the rest is great, too. This album will remain in rock's consciousness long after more recent groups like Poison are long forgotten.

Remember skipping class,riding around and smoking Js? 1974.The year all the monumental rock lps came out. back then we only had a handful of artists and bands, so when the albums came out,for a few days rock fans were mesmorized by the new grooves.Today there are so many musicians,groupsand bands ,I, am overwhelmed. But back to the CD this is clasic Foghat when they were in their best creativity and rythmem The three members Lonesome Dave,Tony Stevens and Rodger Earl came from Savoy Brown and Rod Price Had joined them ,they came to the states and enjoyed much success .This is great work by them in their finest form.NP

Its Good But..............2000-03-04

I like this album, it has some great songs like "honey hush" "wild cherry" etc. but my big complaint about this album is how they recorded lonesome daves vocals on "fly by night" "golden arrow" and "nothin'I won't do" sounds like he has something covering his mouth, its not as clear as the other songs, otherwise it is a good album

Bernard Allison's Fall 2005 European tour was an eye-opener. For years, he's been taking his band to Europe, keeping his famous family name alive and delivering outstanding shows night after night - and fans get what they expect from someone with the name Allison - a rocking good time.

Bernard shows his technical prowess on "The Walk" and "Wah Wah Action." And of course, he pays homage to his father with a number of Luther Allison songs. It's the kind of stellar performance that keeps fans coming back year after year.

Studio work is better.......2007-01-12

Hard as it is to believe, "Energized" is anything but. I own Higher Power and Storms of Life and recommend both highly. Energized contains stuff from the other two CDs but is vastly inferior. As with a lot of live performances the band members are given a lot of time to solo to the point where the listener who is not there gets bored. Don't buy this one. Buy the other two instead.

Nasty rave mixes of great soulful house songs.......2002-08-22

It's a shame that Kim English's record label have commissioned such a dire set of remixes. In their original form (on the "Higher Things" LP), these songs are soulful house tunes. Almost all of these remixes strip out the subtle melodies and replace them with grating noises and effects, often obliterating Kim English's vocals in the process. Avoid this LP and buy "Higher Things" instead.

The Best Remix Album Since Madonna's "You Can Dance"!.......2000-12-01

Remix albums are mixed bags in that, almost always, the beat is front and center while the hooks, melodies and oftentimes even the vocals are relegated to the background (when they aren't removed altogether). If you're dancing in a club, then that's probably a trade-off you're willing to make; if you're not, then the average remix album will probably disappoint you. Kim English's "Re-Energized" is that rare remix album that works both in a club and in your living room; it's the most listenable collection of remixes I've heard in ages. Overall the production is unobtrusive, letting the singer's warm yet powerful vocals shine. The standout tracks are a cover of Anita Baker's "Been So Long," remixed by the very-hot Wamdue Project; a driving version of "Supernatural" by Michael T. Diamond; and the bouncy No. 1 dance hit "Missing You," mixed by Mind Trap. The now-classic Razor-N-Guido remix of "Unspeakable Joy" is also included, but note that it's in edited form. In fact, for some reason the CD is divided equally between radio edits and long versions. For the most part these remixes actually improve upon the originals (contained on English's excellent 1997 CD "Higher Things") -- and when's the last time you could say that about a remix album? Absolutely essential. Now, can we please get an album of new material?

Kim English Re-Re-Re-Energized.......2000-05-24

Even though I wish Kim English would have come out with an album of new material, this collection of (mostly) new remixes is definitely enough to satisfy me until she does. Even though English was definitely on top of her game when she recorded these songs, this album is more about the remixers. These songs were recorded over 2 years ago.

The strongest remixes, in my opinion, are the Junior Vasquez restructuring of "Learn 2 Luv" and the new Wamdue remix of "Been So Long". Kim's voice is so jazzy and perfect for these remixes. She is definitely the dance diva of the moment, but for her career's sake she needs to come out with new material so her label will stop issuing remixes of remixes of her hits!

Good High Energy Workout Music.......2005-08-06

This cd is not by the original artist and the songs are sometimes very slightly different in beat from the "radio" versions so that the beat is 125 to 135 per minute. There is a good selection of music and I guarantee you won't be able to sit still when you play the music. My form of exercise is dancing in the livingroom and this really helps me keep my heart rate in a good target zone.

Giving this salsa explosion anything less than 5 stars should be a crime! In this spectacular 1979 release, La Poncena had Tito Gomez on their team! Check out the rumba descarga smash hit "Moreno Soy" (the Tito Gomez version). If this song doesn't make you jump up and dance like a rabbit in heat, CHECK YOUR PULSE!!! This is not the earlier Luigi Texidor version of "Moreno Soy" but the newer Tito Gomez version! "Nanara Cai" (Luigi Texidor), "Moreno Soy" (Tito Gomez), "Jubileo 20" (Tito Gomez), "Canto Al Amor" (Miguel Ortiz, Yolanda Rivera, and Tito Gomez), "Tiene Pimienta" (Luigi Texidor), "Noche Como Boca 'E Lobo" (Luigi Texidor) are all salsa explosions to the highest degree.
