Few house labels have established as strong a reputation as Nervous Records. They remain a quality benchmark for those wanting their tracks soulful and all-out. Club Nervous, a review of the label's first five years, shows just how many high points there've been. Roger S's "Feel It" (the label's inaugural 1991 release) is a conga/sax breakdown that set the celebratory tone Nervous has rarely strayed from since. But hard DJ grooves abound, too. "Good Feelin'" by Swing Kids (in a rare and juicy Todd Terry mix) and Nuyorican Soul's "Nervous Track" are turntable beds so ubiquitous that it's a revelation hearing them on their own again. Two stunners by gospel-piped divas Akema ("So in Love") and Sandy B ("Feel Like Singing") stretch the churchy vibe all the way from Rheji Burrell's "Yes He Is." And the jazzier style of more recent days--a Nervous staple from the start--is represented by Kim English's coolly swinging "Nite Life." Mood II Swing's gritty Loni Clark track, "Rushin'," weighs in like a peak-hour champ. And what would any classic house collection be without Brian Stingily coming through? One of his greatest, "It's Over," is here in the Basement Boys mix that lifted it up in the summer of '96. All in all, Club Nervous is a vital sampling of some of the most innovative minds and souls in dance music today. Listen and live. --Steve Lafreniere

5 out of 5 stars So Nervous You Can't Stay Still.......2004-10-15

Simply stated, this is a great compilation. Great beats, great vocals, great basslines. It's the bomb! Great label and great choice of DJ for the mix; Tony Humphries is really on point here! Favorite tracks are "Yes He Is", "Nervous Track", "Nite Life" and "Voices In Harmony". The mixing of both versions of "Nite Life" is especially impressive. The same goes for "Voices In Harmony". My other favorite aspect of this particular mix CD is the timeline effect. I really liked how the tracks were mixed in chronological order: Track One was released in 1991, and each subsequent track was released either the same year as the previous one, or the very next year -- right up to Track Thirteen being released in 1996. The effect here is that the listener is travelling in time. (To aid in the "journey" the CD insert and the cover art serve as a guide)

[On a side note this concept inspired me to put together my own mix that would chronicle the 7 years I spent in England (1994-2001). I called it the "7-Year Itch"]

This CD is a must have for the seasoned House fans as well as the beginners.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Listening..........2000-06-11

This collection serves as an excellent introduction to one of dance music's strongest labels. As masterfully mixed by legendary DJ/remixer Tony Humphries, some of Nervous' strongest singles of the their first five years are given a new listen. The label has managed to hit upon all directions of House Music. Garage, Disco, Classic Vocals, Gospel House is all represented in this collection. The collection also features some early efforts from current heavyweights such as Armand Van Helden(Veda Simpson's "Oooh Baby"), Masters at Work (Kim English's "Nite Life" & The Nuyorican Soul "Nervous Track"),Mood II Swing (Loni Clark's "Rushing") and The Basement Boys (Bryon Stingily's "It's Over"). This is an excellent collection and good addition to your CD rack. The mix is smooth, A Humphries trademark, and will keep you groovin'. With many independant labels releasing anthologies-Strictly Rhythm, King Street, and Northcott, 5 Years of Nervous is a solid entry into this group and establishes Nervous Records place as a player in House and Dance Music.

Niceguy Soulman-"Feel It" Very simple, soulfully minded tribal track. Swing Kids-"Good Feelin" Disco-ey crowd pleaser

Akema-"So In Love" Solid track; kind of track this label has built it's rep on.

Sandy B-"Feel Like Singing" OK vocal; definitely early effort that was improved on later

Track And Feel Events-"Yes He Is" Rousing gospel House mover...

Umosia-"Love Don't Let Me Down" early Roy Davis, Jr. Production Loni Clark-Rushing-Classic Nervous track that moves people.

NuYorican Soul-"The Nervous Track" Initial voyage of Masters At Work Latin-Jazz offshoot.

Kim English-"Nite Lite" Nervous Diva is introduced with this gem Willie Ninja-"Hot" Looped Party track

Joe T. Vanelli F. Csilla-"Voices In Harmony" Garage with OOmph.

Veda Simpson-"Oooh Baby" Seductive floor filler.

Byron Stingily-"It's Over" A true giant hooks ups with the Basement Boys for an incredible tune.

Solid, Solid package....
