A sequel of sorts to 2001's Mixed Live, this 2nd Session for the Moonshine label's popular series continues in the same exuberant, aggressively "up" vibe that has characterized Tall Paul's work for years. After making the leap to international superstar DJ territory in the late 1990s, TP has spent the '00s trying to do what only a few of his ilk have pulled off: conquer North America. Rather than producing a more song-oriented artist record for the task, à la Timo Maas's Loud or BT's Movement in Still Life, Paul has gone the other way, favoring live DJ mix sets to in-studio efforts. However, while capturing the feel of TP's blistering live set is an admirable goal, both Mixed Live records fall short. Few DJs play to the crowd's lust for the beat more blatantly and successfully than Paul does, but the only way to fully experience his interaction with the dance floor is in person. 2nd Session does feature a splendid final 20 minutes, with some tasty selections and transitions along the way, like Tomaz vs. Filterheadz' "Sunshine" bleeding rhythms into Warrior's "If You Want Me." But when Paul breaks it down and makes the people beg for a beat on Hatrixx's "Pressure," the tension that should be there isn't, and Paul's mix slows to a crawl. 2nd Session also includes a DVD presentation of the set, featuring a 5.1 surround sound mix. --Matthew Cooke

4 out of 5 stars I was there........2006-09-08

Maybe most of the whistling you'll hear on this mix was done by me. I've always loved Tall Paul because of his energy, but let me tell you a little secret. The night really wasn't all that great. The club wasn't completely packed that night, and most people left as soon as TP finished his set. The pictures of the crowd you see on the sleeve was mostly the people in the front, and the back was practically empty. Nonetheless, I had a great time that night and whistled real loud because I knew it would end up on the CD. After he finished the set he stepped down the booth and stayed at the bar for a while, so I went up to him, congratulated him and thanked him for a wonderful set.
OK, so it probably wasn't the most amazing night in my life, but it was pretty solid, and I got my whistles onto the cd!

5 out of 5 stars i love house music.......2006-02-14

I picked up this cd because I've been to Club Space in Miami multiple times and have heard how good Tall Paul is. Let's just say that I was blown away and was immediatley hooked on this cd. The beats keep you coming back for more. Each song is progressively better than the previous one, yet every song rocks.
Might I add, there is really nothing better than hearing the live crowd in the background. Whistles, clapping, and the chanting of "Tall Paul" Anyone who likes house music will LOVE this cd.

4 out of 5 stars Has Moments of Greatness but Inconsistent.......2005-12-28

I have recently become a huge Tall Pall fan and have purchased several of his CD's. Personally, I like live sets because it gives me the feeling of being there especially when things get cranked up. As for this CD, like many of Tall Paul's CD's, this one has moments where you are flying high with extreme trance energy. At other times, I would totally agree with the professional review in that Tall Paul falls short in quenching the thirst the fans have for more uplifting beats. There are times during the CD when you feel something more explosive should happen but then he lets up.

Overall, I really enjoy this CD and have kept it in a constant rotation with several other of his CD's. From the several CD's that I have heard from Tall Paul, I would definitely without a doubt recommend his Live at the Gallery as the best CD due to it starting strong (On Common Ground) and finishing strong (Winter). Check it out, you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Extravagant mix of House,Techno, and Trance.......2005-05-10

Great mix, never lets up!The highlight of the album for me is track 4 ,that is just bad ass. This cd has actually got some house I enjoy,(very unusual,I must say.)This is Tall Paul's best mix so far,I must say,and the live recording from the world famous "Space"in Miami just adds so much excitement to the album.Pick up his other live mix from Giant,LA.Dance fans go out and grab this.

5 out of 5 stars Tall Paul does it again!.......2004-11-15

Anyone who likes electronic music must buy this CD!World class DJ Tall Paul brings it yet again! The track selection is great (although a little anthem-y at times), the bass is hard and driving and the crowd noise adds to the intensity. This is a great representation of Paul live, and if you've never seen him...buy this disc, put it on as loud as your stereo will go, and GO CRAZY!!! I love it!!!
