The Whispers is one of the most respected and enduring vocal groups in the music industry with a stellar career that spans over four decades. It’s been 9 years since their last CD (Songbook, Volume 1, Songs of Babyface, released in 1997), and fans have been clamoring for a new collection perfected by their smooth, harmonious voices. “For Your Ears Only” is the first to be produced on the Whispers’ independent label, Satin Tie Productions headed by the Whispers themselves. The song collection is a mixture of classic soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, and pop, performed in “pure Whisper” tradition from the classic “Don’t Say No” penned by Grady Wilkins and Alonzo Ward, to the smooth, sexy “Butta”, written and arranged by the great Teena Marie. On Valentine’s Day, wives and lovers will be serenaded with the passions of “Diamonds”, “Love Stroking”, “Hold On” and Nicholas Caldwell’s “Love”. On the dating scene, guys looking for a soul mate can woo them with Ollie Woodson’s “Can I Get Next To You” and “It’s You” (Nicholas Caldwell and the Whispers’ guitarist Emilio Conesa). For dancers and steppers, “Get It On” and “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” will electrify the party goers and add a touch of soulful, funky class to the local DJ’s night club collection. The “Believers” and “Fans” were not forgotten; “I Sing This Song For You” is dedicated to the Man Upstairs whose gifts of song and songwriting elevated the Whispers to where they are today. What an amazing CD. I am an avid Whispers fan and have every album/cd they have ever made. This CD is a classic; unmistakable Whispers sound with songs that remind you of why you are a Whispers fan. If you haven't bought it, you need to because you won't be disappointed; and if you are, you aren't a REAL WHISPERS FAN!

Loved the cd. Been a Whispers fan since the seventies and I must say this one really touched my heart and made me feel like I was in love again. What a fantastik joy it was to listen and meditate on the words in all the songs on the "For Your Ears Only" cd. I listen to it over and over again. Much Continued blessings and success to the Whispers. I'll be waiting for the next cd to come. Keep blessing your fans with good soultry music.

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

Sometimes with double CDs, you end up listening to the better CD only. Well I can't decide which is better, every time I listen to one I decide it's the best! A good introduction into psy-trance from trance. If you are sitting there considering buying this album, then trust me, do it, you will not be dissapointed!

Time and time again I have said I need to move to the UK. The club life there far surpasses anything we've got here in the States. With that said... if you go to the UK, go to Golden (the club night that totally rocks because of this here DJ). With his residency at said club, and some exposure over here in the U.S., Fleming is poised to take over the trance scene.

The very same scene that people in the UK say is dying a slow, but timely death. Well, au contrare mon frere... TRANCE IS ALIVE AND KICKING IN THE UNITED STATES... and DJs like Fleming are a good reason why.

Fleming has put his heart into this double cd, and it shows. At times more melodic than even Van Dyk's work and also more emotional than Oakenfold, John '00' Fleming is a trance master with the skills to pay the bills. His mixing is flawless, his track selection well thought out, and his preproduction for how he plans to move the listener is immeasureable.

John '00' Fleming is a force to be reckoned with, and 2002 seems to be the year he could explode on the scene... a residency at Golden is commendable, but he deserves much, much, more.

I was just browsing the local record store in search of yet another worthy set (get's more difficult every time:)), when I came upon this gem. This is now one of my favorite compilations.

Space opera sounds, high energy trance melodies, and progressive rhythm come together in what is one of the best mixed sets out there. The tracks feel fresh and well-thought out.

Certain highlights are Odessi's teriffic "Moments of Space" and Astral Projects "Flying Into Space".

This set is definitely for those looking for a little more energy in their progressive mixes. Excellent!

This has to be the must buy trance album of the year. The first cd is very progressive and climaxes with some soft happy trance and leads nicely into the second cd. You can feel the energy building and when you get to the breakdown of Cyberstorm - Our Energy (no4) you know its really going off, this has to be one of the greatest trance tracks ever written and i felt spoilt being able to listen to it,fantastic. This should not however detract from the quality of the rest of the cd where the BPM picks up even more to lift you right off your feet as each tune is given a real chance to build, breakdown and kick off. If you buy one dance album this year make it this one and i guarantee it will not leave your cd player for a very long time, truely amazing!!!

    Second time around the block for midland (Birmingham?) boys Mike Stokes and Richard March, delivering the same loopy off the wall sound as their first effort. There's not much in the way of singles material here but that doesn't really matter because the entire album is greater than the sum of its parts - a real joy to listen to a group with an original sound in a genre full of copycats.

Electronica need weirdos like them or Gonzales uber alles. not serious music for not serious people... they (and this gonzales too) will bring the fire in Saint Malo - la route du rock next 11 August.     BUY THIS CD if you love the brass ensemble sound. This ensemble puts a unique twist on it but has the most lush sound around. You can hear the darkest colors and the brighest colors all in their purest forms. This sound is what we brass players all strive for.
