5 out of 5 stars they will soon be known.......2007-06-08

This CD is great. Asteria isn't quite popular yet but they are on their way there. I recommend this CD if you enjoy acoustic/indie music!

Peace

5 out of 5 stars Great upcoming new band.......2007-04-02

Love Asteria not only a great band/great new sound, great looking too!!! Can't ask for anything better than that! The only problem with this order was that 3 out of the 5 cases I received had broken cases. The CD themselves were fine.

5 out of 5 stars If you like to Have fun then buy this.......2007-03-25

Don't buy this Album if you are boring, because boring people will hate this album because it will make you want bounce off every wall in your room. This album is just plain fun, makes you want to DANCE! DANCE! DANCE! And we all know the boys and the girls go DANCING. Buy this album you will not regret it. Something for everyone except boring people.

2 out of 5 stars You've heard it before............2007-03-10

I'll make this quick....Asteria's "Slip into Something More Comfortable" is a nice effort by these NW Indiana guys but the problem is, its nothing that hasnt been done to death a million times already and alot better I may add. If your looking for something thats gonna be groundbreaking, move on.

Considering the average age in this band, the musicianship isnt bad. They do however show their age with the easy-cheez filled lyrics. As bad as that description is, the lyrics are worse.

Like I've said, their young kids so things could change but as of right now, I advise you to save your money and look in something else.

    Album Description

Much of the music currently promoted as jazz, whether instrumental or vocal, relies on self-dramatizing gestures: shouts and whispers, squeaks and honks, dizzying speeds, flurries of notes, empty virtuosity that soon grows tedious. Hanna and Phil aren't self-defined stars who demand the spotlight in their performances; they are musicians whose first obligation is to the song and to melodic improvisation. Rather than act out a lyric, Hanna may treat it with near-conversational informality, the result natural yet slyly persuasive. In her initial choruses, she sets out the song as a great melodist might - perhaps Johnny Hodges or Bobby Hackett - shining her light from behind the notes rather than overpowering them. Revisiting the music for a second chorus, she is freer but never self-indulgent, embellishing phrases, subtly improvising by placing a word over an unexpected note, stretching one phrase, delaying another. Her approach points up the beauties of first-rate material and hides the limitations of lesser songs, making the familiar seem fresh. Phil's rich sound, solid beat, and choice of notes are in the great tradition that stretches from Pops Foster to Paul Chambers. Jazz bassists still appear next-to-last in the solo order, but Phil makes the instrument sing, never treating it as an oversized guitar with an oddly deep voice. At fast tempos, he is agile but each note is precisely articulated. Although Phil is entirely at home with bebop, he offers all the support any rhythm section needs with a strong yet fluid 4 / 4 pulse. Like Hanna, he is concise, making a half-chorus more meaningful than another bassist's lengthy excursions. For these sessions, Hanna and Phil surrounded themselves with fine, sympathetic musicians.

5 out of 5 stars Its like paradise.......2004-01-05

As soon as I heard this amazingly beautiful peice of music ( slip into something more comfortable) I thought of a beautiful, exotic beach in a tropical corner of the world with pure white sand, palm trees, and crystal clear turquoise sea lapping onto the sand. Then I thought of mermaids and dolphins playing in the water, twisting and twirling around eachother. This music is uterly amazing, it blew me away like magic!

5 out of 5 stars It's the most beautiful music I have ever heard, in my life.......2004-01-03

I think this peice of music is so lovely. When I first heard it it reminded me of an exotic beach in a tropical part of the world, with bright blue skies, palm trees, crystal clear sea and pure white sand. Then I imagined mermaids playing in the sea and dolphins twirling around eachother, it just blew me away!

5 out of 5 stars This is Even Better Than Groove Amarda and Bent.......2000-09-04

Well, I am not saying that 'Vertigo' is bad album, in fact, 'At the River' is a fantastic song. But before you say that Groove Armada is the best chill-out band, just listen to this song 'Slip Into Something'. Now you know what is really good, it is beautiful, tranquil, just gorgeous. Yes, both the vocal mix and the instrumental version of this song are marvellous, sheer beauty, I tell you. This is indeed Serve Chilled, envisage yourself lying on the beach, drinking a little bit of wine, enjoying the cool breeze. Cosy! Just like the name of the single the experience of listening to Kinobe is indeed wonderful. I first heard this song a couple of months ago, when 'Serve Chilled2' was released. This stands out as the best track on the second CD, now the single and the album are both released, although I still haven't gotten my hands on the album, the single alone is fatastic! Well, the reason why Groove Armada made it big and the rest of the chill-out bands didn't make it is because of the single as well as most people are not exposed to such music enough. Time is good because a lot of such CDs by different artists are gradually being introduced: Bent, Mandalay, Santessa, Nova Nova and this one. So, before you check out the Bent CD, I suggest you check this out first.
