God damn it's a fine album! i've seen these guys a million times and thought it strange how few of their 'standards' are on this disc, but after a listen i realized they have put together a perfectly cohesive album, fulla the kinda music that makes you realize that rock is not in fact dead, it's just a little drunk.

inexplicably home at honkytonks, chicago punk bars, and detroit soul joints, Geraldine's music has been chugging along for several years, and it keeps getting better. try listening to "B Team", Save Your Soul, or my new favorite, "Scene for the Making," and not wake up the next day dying to hear it again.

the production is necessarily lo-fi, accentuating the rawness of the music. if you think you're missing something listening to this CD, you are: you gotta git out and see this band live before Matt Harvey falls and breaks his hip. still the only band i know able to rock this consistently hard, and still work the harmonica in such a way that you're left thinking, "of course."

        If you buy any CDs this summer it should be Slowloaders "LIGHT& SHADE". Musically enticing,the vocals blow you away.From the beginning to end, there is not a track that doesn't reach out and touch something in you. Like the first time you fall in love, everything is fresh and exciting.The more you listen the more you discover to love. The music makes you listen and the lyrics hook you. One of the best new groups to come, I predict a stellar rise to the top. I recommend everyone buy a copy and then get one for all their freinds!

        If you only buy one CD this summer, make sure it's Light & Shade. Full of sonically and emotionally moving cuts, this gem of an album carries with it so much audible force, that it might be wise to listen to it sitting down, lest you be blown right off your feet. Although difficult to pinpoint a favorite (every cut weaves its way through your heart, unrelentingly), the ones I tend to relive often are 'One Song' (bringing a sly grin to my face with its tale of true love), 'Make it Soon' (causing me to close my eyes and let the rhythms wash over), and 'Someday Sunshine' (subtly invading the corners of my mind). Trust me, L&S will be the best investment you've made in quite some time...share it with everyone you know. Well, correction...buy one for everyone you know. Because if you lend it to them, you won't be getting it back. And the reason for the 4 (instead of 5) stars? This is only the tip of the iceberg as far as Slowloader's talent goes...gotta leave room for what's to come, you know.
