Don't expect the original!! .......2006-12-07
I was so looking forward to this CD as it has all the old hits and bands of my era. I was sorely disappointed when I discovered that not only were they not original cuts but I don't think they are even the same bands. Often times very poor imitations. If you're looking for the real thing - stay away from this one. Having the original band associated with the title of their hit is very misleading and nowhere does it state not by original artists. Is this what "IMPORT" means?

Album Description
They may be more familiar as the voices behind some of the best-loved Partridge Family recordings, but during the late '60s, The Love Generation's flawless harmonies epitomized California pop-psych. 25 tracks recorded between 1967 and 1968. 2002. Sundazed.
Customer Reviews:
Love Generation - 'Love & Sunshine: Best Of.....' (Sundazed).......2007-02-16
Vaguely even remember this act's name let alone their music. By name anyway, as I tend to recall a few of these sunshine pop songs. As I check out tunes like "The Love In Me", "Not Be Found", "When The Sun Goes Down" and "Leaves You Grey", I look into seeking more info about this bunch and think....WAIT a second, there! Several of this band's members were apparently the voices dubbed in for the Partridge Family's music during their four year TV series. I mean, this sort of sound was GREAT for it's time. Should appeal to fans of the Mamas&The Papas, Association, Freddie And The Dreamers, the Monkees, and the Cowsills. Recommended, if you dig this sort vintage memory.
S.F. pychedelic pop = Silly Fluff, L.A. = Loaded & Awesome.......2006-10-18
Skip all the overhyped psychedelic music from San Francisco. L.A. is where it's at. Southern California had Arthur Lee's Love, the Doors, the Byrds, the Mamas and the Papas, and every other California band worth mentioning. S.F. had a bunch of bloated nineteen-minute noodlers who couldn't craft a melody to save their souls. The Love Generation are hep to the scene, can you dig it?
Horrible lyrics but..........2004-03-16
Excellent execution by top session vocalists. Mostly male lead from the Bahler bros. (who lend background voices to Partridge Family, Monkees and many others) Lyrically challenged and excessive use of the words groovy, sunshine and flowers. Some good material, especially in first 10 tracks...maybe after that the sound starts to wane. Big dissappointment on track 20 (A Touch of Love), which was/is a great tune featuring only the brothers...unfortunately they used the version from the Montage album which has added John F. Kennedy (sounds like George Bush senior!) talking at the beginning and end of the song. If you can get past that, it sounds like a great Byrds acoustic demo (except for the lyrics). The version on the first album does not have the talking.
Geeky, but with a quirky appeal.......2003-04-17
As I listened to this, I recalled a lot of it form my early childhood (late 60s- early 70s). I remember "Catchin Up on Fun" from the Archie cartoons from the late 60s and I recall reading that the Love Generation was the group that did much of the actual vocals for the Partridge Family. It shows. Like a lot of the bubblegum pop of the time, this is the kind of unhip stuff that most people today would be too embarrased to admit to liking and would certainly not play in public or around a group of friends for fear of being considered a geek. But hey, if you're all alone on a sunny day with your CD player, there's nothing wrong with a little "Groovy Sunshine" for some fond memories. Bring on the Cowsills, Freddie and the Dreamers, and the Brady Bunch Band while you're at it.
Obscure harmony classic.......2002-07-14
Those who enjoy the Free Design, Association, Harpers Bizarre, and other close harmony groups of the pop-psychedelic variety will find this a highly pleasing collection. Gathering 25 tracks from the group's three 1967-68 albums, and accompanied by a booklet with excellent notes and photos, this CD is a gem.

Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite Prince CDs........2006-09-16
I remember actually buying this CD many moons ago not even hearing any of the songs on it but man, it was a great purchase and completely blew away all of my expectations that I had for his 1992 'symbol' album. This is easily one of his greatest CDs of his career. "My Name Is Prince" proves this with a heavy driving rhythm, hard-edged lyrics and an extremely funky feel throughout. The album is very experimental and far removed from his more conventional sounding records but it ranks as one of my favorites of his.
It keeps the story flowing..........2006-08-31
It seems that Prince decided to be a storyteller with this release featuring Mayte throughout the CD. But with each story, it flows into one another with spoken "segues" in between the songs. Also features Kirstie Alley as the frustrated reporter, possibly echoing Prince's real-life evasion of reporters! Very enjoyable as it includes the hits 7, SEXY M.F., & DAMN U!
Before Prince found his...well, whatever he found..........2006-06-25
Ever since Prince "converted" there's been a slightly subdued "edge" to his music. The "love symbol album," as this one is commonly referred, shows the singer at his most enigmatic, hedonistic, self-centered, controversial, and, to a certain extent, spiritual, than anything he produced up to that time, and, perhaps, more than his releases in the last decade. When he announces "My name is Prince" in the first track, the listener should be prepared. There is truly no one else like the guy from Minneapolis.
With backing on vocals and instrumentation by The New Power Generation, Prince has never sounded better and clocking in at just under seventy minutes, there's a lot of good music to behold.
The album comes with a "parental advisory" for the album's explicit lyrics and that disclaimer is warranted. Even though many of the songs are populated by profanities, they don't detract from the songs. In fact, unlike others who need a "cuss word" or two to supply a shock, Prince's songs are enhanced by a zinger here or there. But, mind you, the subject matter is definitely for the adult and caution should be advised when playing around "little ears."
Highlights include the aforementioned first cut, the James Brown-like "Sexy M.F.,", "The Max," "Blue Light," "I Wanna Meet with U," "Damn U," "The Flow," the gospel-influenced "7", and "And God Created Woman."
The entire album is a showcase for the funkiness of an artist that has been influential for close to three decades...with many more to come.
It's About The Songs,Stupid!.......2006-05-31
I always have been an admirer of Prince and his music and this is an CD,I must admit I always have trouble talking as a whole. It's a rock opera with a lot of obscure spiritual references. This is not part two of 'Lovesexy' though-the arrangements are far less jazzy and dissonant.Nonetheless Prince tries to do a lot on this album.Especially on "My Name Is Prince" this album is very sonic and noisy. For such a trendsetter Prince spends an awful lot of time following the hip-hop/new jack thing and in this day and age some parts of this album sound painfully dated. Some songs are pretty good such as "3 Chains O Gold" and the frenetic "The Max" but both showcase one problem-both songs turn into rap midway and don't really need to.For ballad purposes the better song is "The Morning Papers".There is a lot of variety besides the heavy hip hop experimentation such as two great rock tunes-"The Continental" and "7",the latter being one of his standards. As far as funk tunes one was a hit-the somewhat rap oriented "Sexy MF",which actually works very well and the more bare bones "The Sacrifice Of Victor",with it's nostolgic take on civil rights. If this album had been wittled down to an album containg nine or 10 of the best songs here, including most the ones mentioned above this would have been a classic Prince album. But due to artist's tendency in the early 90's to fill every available space on a CD this ended up being an obscure rock 'soap opera' that features too much information and music that distracts from some good seperate songs that are wonderful. In my opinion not exactly the highest point in Prince's career.
A Masterpiece.......2006-05-28
I signed up to this web site to pay this album its just due. Largely overlooked, this CD was one of Prince's crowning acheivements. If 1999 was a sign of what was to come with Purple Rain, then Diamonds and Pearls was Prince warming for the Symbol album. The album finds Prince sucessfully covering more musical ground in 75 minutes than most artists would attempt in their entire career. There's something here for everyone - Rock (The Continental), Dance (Melt With U), Reggae (Blue Light), Funk (The Maxx, Sexy MF, My Name is Prince) and everything in between (Damn U, Arrogance and Sacrafice of Vistor). Oh and if you need a hit, this the album where the single 7 is from. Each song has its own distinct personality and so well written that they stay in your head after just one listen. I must admit, this is not my favorite album (that title goes to his 1987 classic Sign O' The Times), but its one that shouldn't be overlooked. When people ask me which Prince album they should try first, I always recommend this one as it can not be categorized... most people should find much of this album appealing. He trades in the raunch of the 80's for style and sophistication. The album has it's sexy moments, but they are much more subtle. If you are a music fan, but not a Prince fan - this is an album you should check out!

Deborah Harry first gained acclaim after emerging from the Bowery punk dive CBGB and she's moved uptown as a featured vocalist with the Jazz Passengers. This offbeat, outing, however, is set in some seedy Weimer Republic cabaret of the mind. The Blondie frontwoman, with collaborator Robert Jacks, have come up with a convincing tribute to torch-songs. Sympathetic piano, lush strings, and warm reeds embrace Harry, who makes like Marlene Deitrich (crossed with Donna Summer on the discofied "The Only Way"). Harry has resisted being hamstrung by her new-wave notoriety; this outing is one more example of her ongoing commitment to remaining first and foremost a vocalist. --Steven Stolder

Customer Reviews:
Another Drink, Marlene.......2000-02-11
Debbie Harry and Robert Jacks (Leatherface)take us to a haubrau of a time gone by. Their Caberet like effort mixes Dietrich images against alot of cocktails. It's lounge, and if you do not get it your'e stupid. Post apocolyptic and postmodern, Miss Harry's influences once again relect the times and are years ahead. More please from this duo- conceptually hysterical; historically morose and earnestly captured. Relief from a digitally enhanced world insisting on ignoring its own present day Holocost. IT MATTERS
Disgrace to Deborah!.......2000-01-31
This is probably the WORST song EVER put out by Deborah Harry. I love her, she's great.......but this song is AWFUL. Even at only 4 minutes long, it is near-impossible to actually sit and listen to the whole thing. If you are a big fan of Deborah's, then pick it up...just to have it. Otherwise, steer clear of this terrible song!
Review From Pop Culture Press- "Der Einziger Weg".......1999-10-13
I own some weird music. But nothing compares to the hypnotic, vaguely menacing offering from the Queen of Punk and the undisputed King of the Texas Chainsaw Massacres. I can't think of a more melancholy, guttural language that would suit La Harry's voice with any more love. Her voice envelops the language, caressing the harsh consonants into eager submission. The German version "Der Einziger Weg" ("The Only Way")has me reminiscing about an album I bought in 1979 of Kurt Weill's "Three Penny Opera" featuring Lotte Lenya. Never before had I heard the siren call of sexual destitution and corruption. Until now. "I am a Berliner when in your bedroom" reeks of Christopher Isherwood, Sally Bowles and the life of the caberet. This song is haunting and poignant and it demands a visceral response. Robert Jacks (AKA Leatherface) co-wrote the lyrics with La Harry and his velvet, subtle tenor is a great complement to her low alto timber. After all, life is a cabaret ol' chum. Come to the cabaret. (Blythe Christopher)
EXCELLENT!!!!.......1999-10-11
Debbie you DID it again girl what a Beautiful song you did with Robbie sultry sexy a PURE joy to listen to your beautiful voice it will rank up there with your other solo (even this is not solo) hits I would rank it with Command & Obey and Strike Me Pink continue success in the future
Quiet, Beautiful Release.......1999-08-23
"Maria" hit numer one, "Nothing is Real But The Girl" is climbing up the charts, "Der Einziger Weg" (The only Way) was quietly released at the end of Febuary 1999 on the label Eco Disaster Music. Although a quiet release, known only to some of us die hard Debaholics! It actually reached number one on the amazon chart - another success for Debbie to add to her recent achievements!
A duet between Deborah Harry and Robert Jacks (Leather Face from the film) the song is the theme song for the movie "Texas Chainsaw Massarce - The Next Generation" Robert Jacks plays one of the main roles in the movie. A soft, slow song Debbies voice is cool, sassy and rasps so dramatically around the lyrics. Violins and Strings a necessity the song is almost chilling in places. The lyrics conjure up a bizarre scene. Debbie sings in true Marlene Diertrich style - but it is so recognizably Debbie! She portrays a sleazy alcoholic chain smoking club singer, obsessed with sex as "the only way" for her to survive! - quite a similar character to Corey in Intamite Strangers. (Debbies featre film in 1992)
One of Debbies more artisitic moments which can fall under the same light as the 1992 soundtrack "Prelude To A Kiss" definitely one for the collection! The CD features 4 tracks, the original with Debbie and Robert singing in German, the second song is the English translation which features Debie only, the third is the instrumental and the fourth is a dancey upbeat remix.
The actual CD features some rare interesting home photographs of Debbie taken by Robert. She is portrayed on the cover wearing her hair up (its all brown) from the side smoking a cigarette. In the background there is a lampdshade a a picture showing a scene from the film. A definite collectable which will be a rarity I'm sure with in a few years! BUY IT! Review by Daniel Porter
