5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2003-04-29

This CD is fantastic. The storm varies in intensity and volume and is great for relaxing. I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best........2001-11-15

I love thunderstorms and even recorded one myself on a cassette tape years ago. When this came out on a record in the 80s, I bought it and taped it so I could play it for longer periods of time. I even took it with me to Saudi Arabia when I worked there, because I knew it might be a while before I heard the real thing again. I now own the CD and enjoy endless "repeat" thunderstorms whenever I like. Some of the crashes of thunder are a little startling, but they are in nature as well. I enjoy most of all the long low rumbles in the "distance" and the approaching rain. It's an old recording, but it's still one of the best.

4 out of 5 stars If you like rain and thunder you'll love this CD........1999-05-18

The only way this CD could be improved is for it to be released in Dolby Digital 5.1.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome thunderstorm when you can't have a real one!.......1999-04-09

I love this CD and listened to it often when I had it. Unfortunately when I moved 2 years ago I got the jewel case and my roommate wound up with the CD! Hopefully Amazon will get some more so that we both can order it!

3 out of 5 stars The Thunder is a Little Too Loud and Violent........1999-02-16

This cd is fine. The only bad thing about it is that no matter how low you may turn the Volume down, the thunder is too loud and violent. You can't turn it low enough without muting it. I reccommend it to you only if you like loud and violent thunder.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-06-10

I love going to sleep to the sound of thunderestorms and for quite a while I have been trying to find that WITHOUT someones music interferring with the sound of the storm. This is it!

5 out of 5 stars Electrified Relaxation.......2007-05-14

This CD is great to fall asleep to, or just relax and read to. You get all the powerful sounds of a storm, without the worry of losing your electricity or flooding! It's a wonderful relaxation/sleep tool!

2 out of 5 stars Not for relaxation.......2001-11-18

I bought this for relaxation, but found that I am basically unable to listen to it. There are some nice periods of rolling thunder or gentle rain, but just as you start to relax you are jolted from your seat by an incredibly loud explosion of thunder. This CD actually RAISES my stress levels.

2 out of 5 stars Sorry. Not up to par........2001-08-04

This CD is not recorded with the best of technology's offerings. The rain sounds like spittle, and the thunderclaps sound as fake as something from a 1940's melodrama. Not a lot of reality here. My advice is to buy Thundering Rainstorms. The Thundering Rainstorms CD seemed more "real" and less phony. I love the storms of the Midwest, but listening to Electrifying Thunderstorms made me think of horrid old B movies. By the way, if you are making a movie that needs a thunderstorm track, then this is for you. Total "B" Movie sound.

4 out of 5 stars Authentic, with no music........2001-06-24

This is a very realistic thunderstorm recording with no distracting music. There are some loud thunderclaps, so it's not one to help you sleep, and there are some long stretches of rain with no thunder, but that adds to the authenticity. I play this while hanging out at the house for a relaxing, lazy day and it creates great atmosphere.

I got a promotional copy of this record (I'm old, I actually got a CD) for my internet radio station. It was a blessing to get a copy of something that actually sounded like music. The lyrics were solid, the music was better and I actually listen to this one during my off time. Pick up a copy of "Bad Out There". I think you will enjoy it. My favorite picks are "Red Queen" and "Wrong #". Johnny Attitude.

5 out of 5 stars Garys Review.......2006-10-29

This cd is awesome. It grows on you. He has a sound like no one else. If he had the right marketing he would have been a huge hit. He is unique as Springsteen. I highly recomend this CD. It is too bad that Street of Dreams could not be re released. Buy this CD and you will not be disapointed!

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2005-01-26

This CD rocks strong. Gets better with each cut, so listen all the way through. I love the roots of the music, the arrangements, the lyrics, and especially his so cool raspy voice. A must Hear!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Pickering Cartridge Funk.......2007-06-14

I know that my title may not make since to many but back in '68 I was 13 yrs old and the best needle and cartridge you could buy was a Pickering. It came with higher end Fisher stereos. Anyway, Eddie Harris, Houston Pearson and David "Fathead" Newman were jammin' back then. Listen Here has always been my favorite tune. When I first read that Eddie had an electronic device on his sax to produce that unique sound I was hooked. I have purchased four different albums with this cut on it just to make sure I never lose it. If you really want some gritty funk jazz get " Compared to What" with Eddie and Les McCann.

5 out of 5 stars Old outrageous albums and still the best many years later........2007-05-09

I am relistening to an album I purchased in 1968, Eddie Harris, Plug Me In. This still sounds like the ripping stirring jazz it was back in 1968. I thought this album was outrageous in 1968, I loved it then. And, after all these years, it is still outrageous and I still vibrate when I listen. How could this still be so vibrant after all these years? I don't know, I let the experts explain that. Also just listened to Les McCann and Eddie Harris, Swiss Movement, 1969, Cold Duck is still being played by everybody all these years later. What a great musican. This is great music, a classic. It don't get a better if it last nearly forty years.

4 out of 5 stars One of the founders.......2006-07-31

Eddie Harris was one of the founding fathers of electrified jazz saxaphone. Others that follow are David Koz, Kenny G and many others.

At least Ronnie Laws had the good sense to make a tribute album to Eddie for how he inspired Ronnie and Eddie's contributions.

I had this album when it was on vinyl. Never tired of hearing it because Eddie just played. No nonesensical or trite lyrics. Just genius tones, tonal combinations or great percussion.

The artists of today are very good. No question or arguement. However, I think they were inspired by this great gentleman of jazz.

The electrifiny Eddie Harris. If you like saxaphone jazz, listen to Eddie's recordings. He will electrify you too!

4 out of 5 stars very Smooth&On Point.......2005-07-20

Eddie Harris is a Very Versatile Musician.two for One Albums here that showcase the various Grooves, tempos&Stylings on here.He has a cool vibe on the Sax.you feel the Music here covering a smooth Groove of Jazz, but yet it has a Funky Backdrop that is always Grooving.this is the kind of Multi Set that truly highlights a Artist who had His thing.this is a Good Collection&a Good Price.

5 out of 5 stars Ghetto Jazz..........2001-06-13

....subtitled "Theme in Search of A Jazz CD Review".

....sub-subtitled "The Lounge Cats Ride Again".

Followers of these many reviews I have done for Amazon know that I really can't claim to be an all-knowing jazz purist type because, see, I never played any musical instrument and I was not privy to any great jazz era. (Not directly, that is.) Plus, I have listened to many things in all genres and I love a lot in all of them. I do remember some of the cuts that my Dad's hangout buddies, The Lounge Cats kinda dug. As an aside, I also have a great aversion to doing reviews on someone's total record/CD catalog. I mean, I may write something on one or two of Miles Davis' CD because I may personally like them...I ain't even gonna pretend to say I've heard and liked all of Miles output. No disrespect intended, Miles is great and all that, but I can't and never will front like that....

Members of the Lounge Cats, however, always, and I do mean always, give me suggestions of what to write about which artist.

This is Eddie Harris. Eddie would be in that group of jazz artists I would call Ghetto Jazz...background music playing on the stereo or juke box in some hole-in-the wall bar and grill or afterhours spot. Eddie would be played, so would greats like Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Mcgriff, Wes Montgomery, Bro Ray Charles, early Crusaders...you get the picture? Accessible and grooving tunes that are not too far out of reach to us commoners...

This is the CD with two, count 'em two, great Eddie Harris albums, "The Electrifying Eddie Harris" and "Plug Me In", I purchased recently upon hearing a poppin', hissing vinyl version of "Listen Here"....what can I say, but The Lounge Cats convinced me--by albeit primitive means, they got me grroovin' to something I would not have ordinarily. Ol' Guys like that are a treasure.

Normally, here I'd flex my reviewers prejorative and show you how I did my homework, ie read the liner notes, to list the many different players, the engineers, what time of the great 70s jazz era this was in, to show you how much a knowledgeable jazz expert I am.

But that ain't the point of this and I daresay any of these reviews I write. Good Stuff actually speaks for itself. I'm no expert, I'm an evvy day Joe who loves to listen to Good Stuff...

I'll let the great, late saxophonist's art speak, as it were, for itself...

My parting comments? I have been playing it in its entirety a couple days a week since I got it. Needless to say, I love it. And the ol' dog learned a few more tricks from some older dogs, once again....

5 out of 5 stars Great album from great live band.......2002-03-25

Gran Torino is without a doubt one of the most underappreciated bands touring right now, and "Two" proves that point even more strongly. Anyone who has seen them live cannot argue with the infectious energy that the band pumps into the crowd, never slowing down for a moment. This album carries all of that weight. My personal favorite, "Moment with you", is a well blended jam of horns, voice, and smooth melody. My only complaint would be that I have to listen to this album at home, instead of a smoky dive like the old Chameleon Club.

5 out of 5 stars please support this band!.......2000-11-29

i have been a fan of gran torino for three years but i was skeptical when i first heard this new album. but after seeing the guys live again and hearing the new stuff a couple more times it started to grow on me and i realized the band hadn't changed they had just grown. you should buy all three gran torino cd's if you can get your hands on them and see them perform live any chance you get. they are amazing musicians and deserve all the success coming to them.

5 out of 5 stars I love this CD.......2000-09-05

This group is awesome!!!! One of the guys graduated from a high school near where i live. I also know the trumpet player. I have loved these guys ever since they started playing in Knoxville TN. This CD is no exception. Moments with you is catchy, and the rest is great too.

5 out of 5 stars They just keep getting better............2000-09-05

This band that started in Knoxville has exploded into the jazz/fink scene. After having the pleasure of attending the University of Tennessee and watching Gran Torino from their conception, their success was inevitable. This CD is GREAT. Are You Livin is my favorite, an up tempo funky song with lyrics that hit home. If you ever have the chance, go see these guys live, they put on a fantastic show and are a very talented group. One, and Live at the Chameleon Club are their other two CD's, which are a must buy. Once your hear them, you can't stop listening. Addictive music that soothes the soul and puts a spring in your step. Keep rockin' fellas and ladies!!

5 out of 5 stars gran torino does it again.......2000-05-05

If you've stumbled onto this page, consider yourself lucky--this band is somethin' special. ALMOST as nice as their first cd, this album has what it takes to stay in your cd player--funky instrumentals, soulful singing, and just an all-around sound that makes you want to smile and dance. For those of you who've heard Moments w/You on the radio--buy this cd. . . while the song isn't exactly typical gran torino, it's a nice example of their range of talent. But more importantly, for those of ya'll who are skeptical after hearing the old stuff and then hearing the new single--don't worry; this is still the same band. Finally--go see 'em live, it's a treat!

5 out of 5 stars amazing performance.......2006-01-04

This music is some of the best jazz I've heard in a while. I wasn't all that into dizzy until I heard this and realized how he personifies modernity, and not just because these recordings are from the museum of modern art. I find this stuff every bit as mesmerizing as other 60s jazz like coltrane. I like it better than dizzy's newport disc.

5 out of 5 stars Electrifying? Yes!.......2004-01-24

This is a great album, with Diz and company in top form, when Diz was at his peak. The sound quality is very good, and captures the feeling and excitment of the live performance. I've had this album since the early sixties, and it's still one of my all time favorites.

3 out of 5 stars Short changed.......2001-08-27

This brief album is okay; the quartet had been stronger a few months earlier with Chris White and Rudy Collins. But Lalo Shifrin and Leo Wright are up to par, as is Dizzy. The leader's opening flurry on Night In Tunisia, in one breath, is worth the price of the album. But it's very familiar music, and the sound quality is spotty. An 18-minute interview with Diz, used to pad the album, can barely be heard--and isn't worth hearing. In short, there are much better Diz recordings from this period, 1961, available.
