best cKy album yet.......2006-09-03
if you love the cky band, and dont have this cd, BUY IT NOW!!! this cd came out in 2002 and is the best cd by cky yet. "escape from hellview" is a very good song and is my favorite song by cky. the songs "attached at the hip" and "plastic plan" were featured in the bam margera skate movie "cky3"
Surprisingly Fantastic.......2006-08-20
I have a confession to make: for awhile I felt prejudiced against this band and refused to hear their music based on Jess' (cKy's drummer) relation to Bam Margera, whom I utterly loathed (I've changed my view recently--but I digress).
Then one day I heard "96 Quite Bitter Beings," from Vol.1. Never had I ever heard such a unique brand of hard rock blended with heavy metal, and I had to pick up an album immediately. I picked up IDR. How wrong I was in my initial prejudice--this band is incredible.
With every listen this album gets better. It is much like watching your favorite movie over and over again, in that you will discover something new each time.
The most surprising aspect of this album is that its lyrics are highly philosophical. For instance, "Plastic Plan" alerts the listener to the current artistic struggles many musicians face within their industry, as they are sometimes forced to alter their visions and directions according to the desires of their label. "Inhuman Creation Station" seems to be about the way all societies, historically, have shaped their people to fit into a certain mold, which they aren't encouraged to break from, and aren't taught to consider objectively. Those who aren't shaped completely have "warped" minds. Those are just two great examples of what can be found on this album. Each track is very deep in its own way, and they all fit together perfectly to form IDR.
I suggest you pick this album up without hesitation. You will not regret it.
sorry........2006-08-06
They get 1 star from me for stealing this album's name from a Meshuggah album.
american girl is not smart.......2006-03-14
american girl's review is that of a teenage moron who has yet to experience a lot in life. she obviously likes boys that look like girls in the case of HIM...which probably means that she is a lesbian. plus she is from ketucky which means her opinion doesnt matter. screw her.

Meshuggah's finest hour........2007-04-14
First of all, Drake "glassjawslipknot" is a moron. He thinks Meshuggah sucks and even calls them overrated but likes Tool (one of the most overrated bands ever), Seether, Cold, Slipknot, Breaking Benjamin, Atreyu, and other s***ty bands. What a loser.
Anyway, Meshuggah's "Destroy Erase Improve" is where everything unique to Meshuggah (ie. goofy guitar solos and inconsistent time changes) mesh perfectly, therefore, their best album. When this album is over, you'll be exhausted yet wanting more. Fredrik Thordendal is one of the most unique guitarists in the metal world, as his solos sound like messed up synths, and when combined with Tomas Haake's insane drumming, you've got a formual for nearly unmatched technical brutality. Just listen to classics like "Future Breed Machine" and "Soul Burn," and you'll know what I mean.
Witht the exceptions of "Acrid Placidity" and "Sublevels," the songs on DEI are intense with mellow moments, giving the listener variety. This is a metal album that all fans of technical metal must own. For other great Meshuggah albums, check out "Chaosphere" (which is second only to DEI), "Contradictions Collapse/None," and "Nothing." If any of you like jazz-fusion, please check out Fredrik's biggest influence Allan Holdsworth.
Like his predictable self, that pompous film-snob I Shalt Become is gonna post some stupid comment like "Arrg, Rage Against the Machine sucks" or "You have no neck." Bring it on, loser, the fact that you've been trolling me for about nine months (including the times on MySpace) makes you a pathetic s***bag in the eyes of rational people.
The Future of Metal.......2006-08-02
Destroy, Erase, Improve is one of Meshuggah's best albums and an excellent place to start for beginners (such as myself). The album perfectly demonstrates the band's unique style. In the world of Meshuggah, time signatures are almost never traditional (very bizarre as a matter of fact-forget 4/4), riffs are ultra-tight and choppy, vocals are relentlessly fierce and guitar solos are simply out of this world. The guitarist is undoubtedly the focus of this band, and is one of the best players to arise within the past 10-15 years. While his solos are indeed very unusual (yet appealing) for metal, I would advise checking out his stongest influence, contemporary jazz legend Alan Holdsworth. If you're looking for something metal that is beyond thrash yet certainly not mainstream, give Meshuggah a try, as they are certainly worth the experience.
A Great Listen.......2006-06-12
This is a very good album. Meshuggah is an incredibly talented band. This made me rethink what "heavy" meant to me. I didn't even know things THIS heavy existed. I know "Noise" bands like Cannibal Corpse are heavy, but THIS is the soundtrack to a riot. I love it. I've just recently discovered Meshuggah but damn, am I in to them. Starting Out with the Brain-blowing "Future Breed Machine," this juggernaut of an LP Ranks up there with my top albums of all time. Another unmistakable highlight of the album is the mighty "Inside What's Within Behind." It has a certain Pantera feel to it.
In conclusion, you may think you know heavy, but until you listen to Meshuggah, you are oblivious.
Absolutely Skull Pounding .......2006-06-09
Meshuggah are one of my all time favorite bands, and I love them. They are one of the best metal bands of all time, and they're also the best math metal band in my book. I bought "Destroy Erase Improve" a couple months back, and I really love it. Words just can not describe how insanely talented these guys truly are. Their sound is not only heavily skull pounding, but very technical, well complexed, and 100% original as well, and this album proves just that. This album has everything: fantastic songwriting, vicious sceaming vocals, gut punching guitar riffs, awesome solos, pulse pounding bass lines, hammering double bass drumming, what more do you need? Jens Kidman's screaming vocals are just vicious and rabid like. He screams, barks, and snarls like a rabid dog on steriods, he makes all those emo bands look like they're posing. Guitar duo Fredrik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom's 7 sting guitarwork is absolutely gut punching throughout. Thordendal's solos on here are very jazzy and alien sounding and very 100% original, and Hagstrom's rhythm work is very tight and heavy. Peter Nordin's bass lines are so heavy they just beat you to a bloody pulp. Tomas Haake's drumming on here is just phenomenal. His drum beats are like a jackhammer pounding away at your senses, and his double bass kicks make your bones rattle relentlessly. Every song on here is a winner, but my favorites are "Future Breed Machine" "Suffer In Truth" "Terminal Illusions", "Inside What's Within Behind" "Vanished" and "Soulburn".
The songs and the ratings
1. Future Breed Machine - 5/5
2. Beneath - 5/5
3. Soulburn - 5/5
4. Transfixion - 5/5
5. Vanished - 5/5
6. Acrid Placidity - 5/5
7. Inside What's Within Behind - 5/5
8. Terminal Illusions - 5/5
9. Suffer In Truth - 5/5
10. Sublevels - 5/5
Overall Score: 100/100
Grade: A+ all the way man
Overall I highly recommend this album to any Meshuggah fan. So do yourself a favor, go out and buy this album now. I guarantee you'll love it. Meshuggah Rules!!
Heavy, smart, brutal and for Meshuggah, more accessible than later releases.......2006-05-18
Less chaotic and insane than their next album Chaosphere (the first album by Meshuggah I bought), faster and more varied than somewhat monochromatic Nothing and less ambitious than the I ep and their strange masterpiece Catch 33. Destroy Erase Improve is more accessible, though no less brutal. The songs have the patented Meshuggah polyrhythmic technicality but are less inhuman. In other words the songs are more straight forward in terms of groove, rhythm and are more directily emotional. So you can joyfully band your head while the band crushes your cranium in 17/8, 5/4 time. Destroy Erase Improve achieves a terrific brutal balance between extremely high musicianship, technical geekery and straight out stomping metal; the music has an experimental edge that doesn't detract from it's power. And powerful doesn't begin to describe the unrelenting assault that is Destroy Erase Improve. The one respite in the intensity is the quiet and darkly melodic instrumental Acrid Placidity. For those who love Fredrik Thordendal's guitar, the solos are much longer than on subsequent albums and just as oddly creative/creepy, a big bonus. Fantastic stuff. Lyrically, musically and emotionally Destroy Erase Improve is a great album that points to the direction Meshuggah would flesh out on later releases. An excellent album from one of the most original bands playing in metal today.

What in the Blarney Took Me?.......2007-03-30
How old is this release? It's been awhile, that I know, and when I first heard it, I was buying way too much music, and at first listening, I passed it up, for maybe some future purchase.
Maybe 2 years hence, while on my iMAC, I now have the pleasure of listening to actual music I can now chose, such as under Ambient, and under that, an array of stations from all over, that play the BEST chill/ambient/lounge of which I stay on top of! I heard "Need You Tonight' and saw it was by Mylo, and realized I had passed up a CD that was and is, now, one of the BEST in my collection, since after that, I had to own it!
Mylo, when is there more coming???? Your music makes me happy....cheerful, with hope.
the best electronic music in a while.......2007-02-25
yes, i know most electronic cd's have 12 variations on a theme, but this disc is AMAZING. each song is unique. always with an energetic bpm. if you like dance music, mashups, electronica, then buy this CD ---- you will NOT be disappointed! kept me rocking for an hour straight.
Consider this the "Special Edition" of "Destroy Rock & Roll".......2007-01-22
The Music press (in the UK), has been predicting the demise of Dance music, for some 2 years now, citing 'More varied musical tastes' & 'A lack of innovation' to blame for the diminishing sales of Dance albums. And while Dance album sales certainly aren't as strong as they were several years ago, those willing to dig a little deeper for their dance music, will still find a thriving scene.
Enter 24-year-old "Myles MacInnes" (aka "Mylo"), who has taken the template of mainstream Dance music, and reinterpreted it, to fit within a retro/electro dance arrangement, that has the distinction of being one of the most accomplished (if not the best) mainstream dance albums of 2004. Mylo makes the wise decision of not loading the album, with hard-hitting dance numbers, and instead fuses smooth electronica, with upbeat-electro & couple of big-beat/techno tracks.
"Sunworshipper", is gorgeous downtempo electronica, that is so simple in its creation, that its a surprise that it works so well. Think smooth & elegant downtempo 'Nightmares on Wax' style electronica, with a looped dialogue sample (which seems to be from either a film or documentary), overlayed, and brought in & out of the mix. it doesn't actually build or climax into anything, but it's simplicity is so beautifully devised, its laughable.
"Drop The pressure", up the ante with full-on dance floor electro, that immediately stands out, due to its catchiness, that throws a hard hitting electro beat, that fluctuates in tempo, with a crowd please dialogue sample of: "mother****ker's gonna crack under pressure". (think prime-era "Chemical Brothers" dropping, a knowingly cool electro-number).
"In My Arms" again moves away from presenting the listening with relentless simplistic & thudding beats, and weaves a hypnotic disco spell chopping up a riff, and rearranging the pieces to form something closer to disco-house/funk hybrid. Joyous, refreshingly different, and above all...funky as hell.
"Musclecars" leaps off the album with another slab of genuinely attention grabbing electronica, a sneaky little electro tune with woo-hoo-hoo-hoos and bleeps that sounds a bit like 'Royksopp', and therefore has that ability, to reach out to a wide audience, with something that seems to chime perfectly with people that don't usually like to electronica/Dance music.
But with this re-released version of "Destroy Rock & Roll", what is new, and indeed different from the previous version, is the addition of a pretty nice Re-working of "Destroy Rock & Roll", and more importantly a bootleg style mash-up of Mylo's own "Doctor Pressure" mixed with Gloria Estefan's 'Doctor Beat' with the Miami Sound Machine. Which is a gloriously cheesy but energetic house track, that fits in perfectly with the 80's dance mood of the album. And it would take a seriously uptight person to not enjoy it for what it is...a wonderfully disposable piece of groove based dance music, that would fill the floor of any downmarket nightclub.
A lot of this album is made up of ideas that in someway either reference, or give a knowing nod to music of a decade or two ago (especially 80's Pop/Rock). Whether it being tracks to owe a little debt to "Prince" ("Guilty Of Love"), or taking retro-dance ideas from "Daft Punk" ("Otto's Journey"), you'll find that although the source material from which the ideas may not be original. It's implementation represents itself in a reasonably innovate & refreshing way, and the electro/house feel running throughout the album is complementary to many moods.
Those that like their dance to be 'Underground' or consider themselves to be 'music enthusiasts', and generally avoid the sort of music, that would classify for 'Radio-play', would do well to give "Destroy Rock and Roll", a miss....and search for something a little more geared, to the 'Niche' market. As "Destroy Rock and Roll", is a mainstream dance album that uses clever stealing of 80's/90's tracks/samples, and subtle electronica to reinterpret those sounds into something more palatable for todays more demanding/discerning listeners. And manages to sit in that category of electronic/Dance albums such as: ("Royksopp's - Melody A.M."), ("Moby's - "Play"), ("Air's - Moon Safari"), ("Daft Punk's - Discovery") & ("Zero 7's - "Simple Things"), as examples of albums that have that seriously broad appeal, and yet still remain fantastically unique albums in their own right.
Awesome beats.......2007-01-04
If you like dancing, if you like dancing in European clubs, and if you like a good beat this cd is for you. I love it. I listen to it on repeat. End of story.
An Outstanding Loveable Album that seems to revive a genre..........2006-09-29
(p.s - if you've ever half liked royksopp ,get this for yourself)
Mylo's debut cd is a breakaway from the slack the genre contains. Yes, this is commercial music yet it manages to defeat the hypocrite me and soothes my ego with it's ocean of dramatic sound.
"drop the pressure" is the first song i heard from this disc. In a lot of ways, the tracks underline Dj Mylo's ability to bring "non-dancers" off their feet and into a jiving mood. This is a very good cd if you lived in the 90's listening to music like Robert Miles, a bit of Prodigy and some random electronica tracks and always wondering why you never got into the genre.
Destroy Rock & Roll does surprisingly well as it is beyond being judged. "Sunworshipper" , "Drop The Pressure" , "Rikki" and "Need You Tonite" are the best tracks on the disc.
Sunworshipper is the kind of track that you play in the night and wonder to yourself about the artist named Mylo. It is a total zonked out experience mostly.
Need You Tonite has quite a lot of heart and earns respect with more listens. It reminds me of Royksopp's "Sparks" cause it contains a similar wall of sound. It just might be the best track on the disc.
tracks I didnt like one bit include "Muscle Cars" , "in my arms" , "paris four hundred" and the title track, "Destroy Rock And roll"... You see these are filler tracks and one realises this with consequenet listens. These filler tracks are also why I give this 5star album Four Stars. "Otto's Journey" is acquired listening which will make you smile. "Zenophile" is smooth. Emotion 98.6 is almost apologetic and seems to be lacking direction.
So much for my love for Mylo. I loved this cd all in all. Somehow one of the top cds of 2005. Maybe the best despite earning only FOUR STARS. Influences moods easily...
Cheers,Lovers

It was an honor..........2005-11-11
...to co-produce this record, remaster some of the old recordings, some live stuff, etc. It wasn't easy, believe me: many of the live sources were crappy cassette tapes or audio ripped from a camcorder video!
I'm glad I was given a forum to be able to finally present tracks like "Teenage Whore" to the light of day. The live version of "I've Been So Mad Lately" I do not believe was mentioned in the liner notes as such--is the very first time Bianca ever sang it. We just happened to be recording that day, and I blew my voice out before we got to "Mad" (I wrote it, used to sing it live and I do sing it on the first single). After arguing with Bianca for about 15 minutes where she was screaming "I'm not a singer, leave me alone!!" we finally convinced her to try the song, tape rolling. It was her song ever since. The "take" on Last Call is the second take. The first take is still in my archive, we couldn't include both due to CD-length constraints, but read below...
So many stories to tell on this record that didn't make the liner notes... believe me.
Also know I am working on hopefully releasing my own Bianca tribute in the form of another CD that will be packed with even more interesting stuff than you'll find on "Last Call". My release isn't meant to "trump" "Last Call" but is meant to complete it--to turn it into the 2CD set it should have been in the first place. On this disc I hope to present, among other things in the archive, that first tale of "Mad", the very moment she stepped up to a microphone and started taking prisoners.
I also plan to donate the net proceeds of it to a charity Bianca and I used to do a lot of work for back when we lived together. I'm merely trying to find the initial resources to manufacture it. Wish me luck!
Peace.

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS HARD ROCK AND PUNK WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR WHAT A SHAME BIANCA DIED SO SOON AND BECAUSE OF A DRUNK DRIVER JUST WISH THERE SCEEN IN BUBBLE BOY WAS LONGER. A MUST FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES GIRLSCHOOL ,L7 MORE HARDER THAN THE RUNAWAYS
God bless Bianca.......2003-06-21
I discovered these girls to late in the game, and I kick my [self] for it. When I finally heard Are You Man Enough? Bianca had passed, and so had my shot at seeing 'em live.
If you are reading this, and debating whether or not to buy the cd, I don't think you can call yourself a fan of rock 'n roll if you dont own this slab of rock.
These girls for an all too brief period, were the definition of ROCK!!! No other band came close. Period. If you are a fan of great rock and roll, ... buy this bad Oscar, and obtain any Betty material you can. You are not rock until you do.
last call last album.......2003-06-05
Brilliant band, pure genious, and a very sad lost for music. Some interesting alt versions and the live stuff sounds good too. Bianca has an excellent rock voice and the band play very catchy rock in support. Great fun. not for those who are easily affended but thats not me. Play it loud and enjoy, (but don't annoy the neighbours)

Solid State has its As I Lay Dying.......2007-04-21
So, as the title says, Solid State now has a band that is basically an As I Lay Dying knock-off. I listened to "Shadows Are Security" right after, and I swear that the guitar riffs were the same.
That said, this is a very good album if you like As I Lay Dying, which I must say I do. I find it hard believing that I am saying this, but I absolutely loved the intro and outro. The album in between is strong, typical stuff.
I enjoyed this, and do not regret getting it, as it takes what is typical and does it very well.
Some corrections.............2007-02-27
I mostly wanted to correct some errors from the other reviews. Firstly, Destroy the Runner is from San Diego, NOT Seattle. Secondly, Kyle Setter does lead vocals, which in this case is the screaming/growling/etc., while their guitar player handles the singing.
That being said, this is a solid debut by an extremely talented metal band. Admittedly, I haven't heard much of As I Lay Dying's stuff, but the little I have heard did not sound at all like anything on Saints. However, any similarities would make sense considering that Tim Lambesis (As I Lay Dying's vocalist) did some additional production on the album. I would also draw some comparisons between Destroy the Runner and their labelmates August Burns Red, with the obvious exception of the singing vocals that are not present in ABR (which is fine by me).
Highlights include: the guitar solo in "Columbia", pretty much all the lyrics, and also guest vocals on "From the Red" by Saosin's lead singer Cove Reber. This is a great metal album, and I especially look forward to what's ahead from DTR.
Young band with great potential.......2007-01-16
Awesome stuff from a young band. This is not just mindless head-banging thrash. Take the time to read the lyrics and you'll see there is surprising depth. The drummer for these guys ROCKS!
Destroy the Runner ~Saints~.......2007-01-04
Opening with a short melodic instrumental, Destroy the Runner takes no time in showing us their influence with their true opening track, ""My Darkness."" The song reeks of the self-titled Killswitch Engage album, which isn't quite a bad thing if you're looking for a riff oriented growl intense verse mixed with a melodic verse... basically, the same thing that everyone else is doing right now. Couple this with Kyle Setter screaming My Darkness... and you'll get a solid punch in the face of just how much they really enjoy Killswitch! This isn't an entirely bad thing if that is your style of music. Unfortunately for these Seattle natives, most of the American metal head population is tired of it.
There are a few interesting bits here and there that lead you to believe that Destroy the Runner are a little bit more than the common breed of metalcore band. They make it clear as day that their lyrics are uplifting as opposed to most other bands (that is, besides Killswitch who write a lot of uplifting songs). Choruses like the one in ""Columbia"" only suffer because you've heard them before--the clean harmonized vocal followed by a growl echoing the last few words; it's become a cliché--and it's a shame because the solo in the song is truly excellent and will get no attention due to the rest of the package being so blasé.
""Saints"" breaks the monotony but only because they stick with the clean vocals and mostly stay away from straight metalcore behavior (besides the part where they inadvertently pay tribute to another metalcore band screaming, As we lay...as we die!). The song is not that impressive but it at least breaks the album up.
Overall the album sounds like As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage wrapped into one. Practically nothing new but strong if you want more of the same!

Album Description
The pride of San Marcos, Texas, THIS WILL DESTROY YOU are an instrumental quartet who play a cascading brand of cinematic rock music. "Young Mountain" is their formerly self-released masterstroke, a 6-song, 36 minute composition of aural brilliance that has already garnered an obsessed fanbase both in their home state and in underground circles worldwide. In spite of its previous CD-R-only incarnation, Decoy Magazine featured the album at #5 on their "Top 50 Instrumental Albums of 2005," ranking it ahead of SIGUR R'OS, PELICAN, and other successful modern acts. THIS WILL DESTROY YOU has catapulted quickly to the forefront of American instrumental bands in part due to their geographical lineage. In short, they are the natural progression and modern incarnation of all great Southwestern music from many generations past. Texas is in the blood of these four young men and every note they hang evokes the imagery and feel of traversing the long, lonesome highway of the! Southwest. Bands like THIS WILL DESTROY YOU and EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY have become our new Americana and everyone from T-Bone Walker to Wild Bill Longley are resting more peacefully because of it.

Worth it!.......2007-07-24
I saw these guys live at a 65 days of static show and they blew me away. Unfortunately the album comes nowhere near the power of the live performance, but it stands alone as a must for any fan of the genre.
Could be sheer brilliance........2007-06-06
There's something trying to get out here, but something about the climaxes of these songs aren't...powerful. Their crescendos are pulled off quite nicely, but what these guys are trying to do with the peak point of their songs isn't quite working. The climaxes are lacking melody, but there are some truly beautiful guitar riffs during the crescendos.
With some more work, this could be absolutely brilliant. TWDY just has to work on their execution and finding a sound that truly defines them.
4/5 stars.
copy cats, plain and simple.......2007-03-06
These guys from Texas are nothing more than a bunch of emo kids maturbating to the likes of Mogwai and Godspeed you Black Emporer. It's too bad that new music can't actually be new...hmmm how long ago did Mogwai release it's first ablbum? 1996 was it? Even Mono was doing the same thing before they were, not to mention another Texas band called Explosions in the Sky. Yeah fellas it was inventive back then, but played out today. I wish these guys would take a card from Animal Collective or A Hawk and a Hacksaw and find their own sound.
Young Mountain.......2007-02-23
My favorite album of '06, although they came up close with Caspian. This album, although deemed as too "Explosions in the Sky"-esque, definitely has something so distinguished (although I still can't point it out), maybe a diffferent feeling of less dissonance in their sound compared to other 'of the moment' instrumental bands. Perhaps its their ability to make their guitars scream/cry ridiculously well, and still manages to blend together. This is definitely worth a listen.
4 Stars for sound, 1 Star for originality.......2007-02-02
I really enjoy this album. But if we're being totally honest, every single one of these songs sounds EXACTLY like Explosions in the Sky (well, except for the one that sounds exactly like The Album Leaf)...enough so that I'm almost tempted to use the word 'plagiarism'. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are merely inspired by these bands, not copying them outright. This is very good music, and I hope to hear more from these guys. I just hope the next time around, they do something that sets them apart from their peers.

Philip Anselmo is the indefatigable frontman for three of the heaviest bands in existence--Pantera, Down, and now Superjoint Ritual, possibly the most extreme of Anselmo's belligerent bands. Unrepentant, unrelenting, long-in-the works songs on this incendiary debut include a 1989 cut about the Manson Family entitled "Creepy Crawl," and the portentous gut-wrencher that gives the band its name, a 23-word ditty that ends with "get killed." Anselmo has created a raw metal onslaught, more punk-thrash brutality and less groove-oriented than Pantera. This hardcore underground supergroup has its moments on the memorable "All of Our Lives Will Get Tried" and the more midtempo, but no less growling and vocally merciless "The Alcoholik." Superjoint Ritual pull no punches and have no remorse, just check songs such as the musically and lyrically blunt "Antifaith," with its chorus "dischord [sic], fear, psychosis, then the grave." Use Once and Destroy's parental advisory is well-deserved, and the disc is a must-have for any fan of underground metal or Superjoint's venerated members. --Katherine Turman
Customer Reviews:
Not bad, but..........2007-01-07
Eh, these guys were above average I guess. The main reason I gave this a 3 is because Phil broke up Pantera and Down, both who were far superior bands, to start this. If these guys were maybe a one album project, I may have given it a 4. This band was obviously more punk oriented than Phil's two original bands. The riffs are pretty catchy, but when compared to Pantera & Down, they are rather simple. Not only that, but there are no leads on this album whatsoever. The songs are brutal and some are very catchy, which gives this some points. However, this CD just seems to be all brawn. None of the technicality and creativity found in the above two bands is present here.
Fortunately, Phil left this band behind to go back to Down. Overall, i'd say finish your Pantera(RIP Dimebag) and Down collection before you consider buying this. Check it out if your a HUGE Pantera fan or if you're on a budget or something, but I can't really recommend this to a casual metalhead.
Serious metalhead ear candy.......2006-04-22
In 2001, after Pantera released "Reinventing The Steel" a year earlier, Phil continued work on two of his other bands, Necrophagia and Viking Crown, as well as starting a new group, Southern Isolation. Then Phil returned in 2002 with Down and Superjoint Ritual. Superjoint actually released their first demo in 1997, but they officially debuted in 2002. "Down II" proved to be quite a disappointment, but, fortunately, SJR's "Use Once And Destroy" is very cool. This album is much more hardcore-influenced and underground-sounding than anything released by Pantera or Down. The downtuned guitars, fast drumming, and Phil's constant, throat-straining, lung-stretching yells make this record a very raw, seething, dissonant, relentless, and sonically crushing assault. There are a few moments when a song will sound somewhat traditional or catchy, but then Phil's roaring voice will explode through your speakers and shatter that song's opportunity. Phil hinted at this type of extreme vocal style on Pantera's 1996 disc, "The Great Southern Trendkill," as well as "Reinventing The Steel," but he only fully lets loose on this album. Phil's performance isn't as great or expansive as it was on past releases with his name on it, but it is every bit as expressive and it helps to make these songs as intense as they are.
Most of "Use Once And Destroy" is very fast, but it does sound somewhat like Phil's other band when the tempos slow down. Two examples of this are "The Introvert," which sounds like a "Far Beyond Driven"-era tune, and "Superjoint Ritual," a slower, mostly instrumental track which sports a fairly big groove and blowtorch, jackhammer guitars, could be a b-side from "The Great Southern Trendkill."
"Oblivious Maximus," opens this album, and might be the best song on here. It's completely instrumental and boasts blistering, pounding guitars and drums, as well as a fast tempo change. In addition to the usual high pitched screams, "It Takes No Guts" puts low, constipated bellows on top of more scorching riffs. The walloping "4 Songs" is backed by machine gun drum patterns, and a few of Phil's patented, long shrieks. (It sounds like he just had his wisdom teeth pulled without any Novocaine.) Elsewhere, when "All Of Our Lives Will Get Tired" hits its peak, it's almost deafening, with squealing guitars and vocals, and "Drug Your Love" and "Haunted/Hated" are explosive, pounding squalls of prominent double bass work and fiery, careening guitars.
"Use Once And Destroy" surely won't cater to everyone's tastes. If you don't like melody and harmony deficient music with turbo charged riffs and vocals which could peel paint off of walls, you should not even consider this disc. And if you're a casual metal fan, you might enjoy this album only in small doses. But serious metalheads (like me) and hardcore fans (also like me) will think this stuff is pretty bad ass.
good is small doses.......2006-03-15
A friend gave me this CD...I listened to it a couple times, man this band sucks..No solos, not much thought, simplistic riffs, and nonstop screaming...Phil broke up Pantera over this garbage? F uck you Phil.
(Track 7): 4 Songs.......2006-03-11
An extreme metal band that combines thrash with speed and threatins to shatter the ground every heart wrenching second. Superjoint Ritual manages to let the riffs go to a crawl and just tear it up with thick distortion when they are not playing fast and aggressive. If you have any recollection of Phil Anselmo you can just imagine him growling and screaming over it all. Superjoint Ritual is a hardcore force to be reckoned with and a band I find far more superior to the newer bands on the scene today.
Extreme Metal CD that doesn't dissapoint... .......2006-01-03
I'll be honest...I heard F**k Your Enemy on the metal channel. I had no idea who SJR was and had no idea Phil was the vocalist. I was just impressed by what I heard. It was at a time when I was still developing my musical tastes for extreme metal. Since then I got into a whole load more extreme metal but these guys were one of my first. It has fast heavy riffing that will keep you entertained if you can handle it. It might take some getting used to Phil's vocals on here but I adapted easily. You should give it a shot.

A very fun album.......2007-04-19
Destroy Destroy Destroy are one of the newest bands to take part in the recently popular "prog/power metal revival" movement. And even though their debut, last year's "Devour The Power," doesn't exactly break new ground in the genre, it is distinguishable from most of the works put out by most of DX3's peers for three reasons. Firstly, this Tennessee-based sextet don't bother with "epic" song lengths -- the whole record is only eleven tracks and thirty-nine minutes long, so the songs are concise. Next, the band aren't overly reliant on keyboard solos. Sure, a couple pop up here and there, but they clearly would much rather rip through your speakers with guitars and pummel you with drums. And finally, Destroy Destroy Destroy incorporate several different genres and influences into their music - their overall sound is like a mix of progressive, power speed, Bay Area thrash, Viking, and black/gothic metal. As a result, "Devour The Power" is heavier and punchier than, say, Three Inches of Blood's "Advance And Vanquish," and it is also a lot more straightforward and easy to digest than most of the stuff put out by a band like Dragonforce.
"Devour The Power" grooves surprisingly hard and forcefully, shreds really convincingly, and is usually quite catchy, too. The musicianship heard here is remarkably tight; Destroy Destroy Destroy intertwine speedy riffs and thrashy, shredding leads with larynx shredding black metal shrieks/rasps, deft, bouncy, black (or thrash) metal-esque blast beats, and top it all off with a few well-placed keyboard flourishes. DX3 allow just the right amount of their progressive and power metal influences to shine through - enough to give the music a bit of variety without killing its energy and excitement. So, yes, these songs are very fast and muscular, but they never become overwhelming to listen to.
The album starts to sound similar after a while, so it will probably take repeated listens to tell one track from another, but there are several highlights here. Some of the most notable moments include the blistering (but still groovey) guitars and thunderous drums of "Hang The Vermin"; the lengthy, melodic keyboard runs and catchy "Oooh, oooh" sing-along in "Gods Of War And Open Sores"; the impeccable double bass work in "Battle Cry"; the superbly rhythmic and hooky "The Beast The Cannot Be Fed"; the slower, ominous "Mutilated Cranial Orifice"; and the two closing blitzkriegs, "Hellfire" and "Bring On The Exodus," which attack at breakneck speed, and are fueled by buzzsaw riffs and quickly thumping drums (plus, the latter track has a surprisingly slow ending when a cool piano enters the scene.)
It won't change the face of music or convert any non-fans of this type of music, but "Devour The Power" is still a good and completely listenable album which makes for numerous enjoyable listening sessions, and is a great, promising start for Destroy Destroy Destroy.
Funny name, amazing results.......2006-10-11
I happened upon this album while browsing through a record store. I was looking through the metal cds and all of sudden I found a band named Destroy Destroy Destroy. The title of the album entitled "Devour the Power" .The name of the band grabbed me right away, mainly because it was a bit over top and kind of ridiculous. However under closer inspection, the album cover kept my interest. It has an image of demon like beast on it and there was a sticker that stated "for fans of Children of Bodom, Dragonforce, and Hammerfall". Well being a fan of all three of those bands I decided to sample it on a sample player. The sample player would play me about 30 seconds of each track. After doing so I immediately made the decision to purchase it. Not only that but the price for the cd was only $9.99.
When I got home I popped the album into my player and was extremely pleased in what I heard. This band had mixed power metal with black and thrash metal, and they had done pretty darn good job of it. The riffs are fast and very hard with keyboards that sound a lot like Dragonforce. The vocals for almost the whole record remain in a black metal style with some death metal growls thrown in hear and there. The lyrics are mainly fantasy based with some Viking style subject matter. Being a new band, as far as I can tell this is Destroy Destroy Destroy's debut record and they have produce one heavy mother of an album that shreds pretty hard. All of the tracks pummel your head, however some stand out tracks in my opinion are "Hang the Vermin", "Battle Cry", and "Ripped apart by the Juggernaut" just to name a few. Anyone who is a hardcore metal head would enjoy this album. It has lots of guitars and thunderous drums. However one has to get past the keyboards. At first they caught me a bit off guard but I got use to them pretty fast. I will say if you like power metal you will love this. If power metal is not quite your thing then defiantly sample the record first. I will say that this is a much darker, and deadlier version of any power metal band I have heard. A good solid debut for a new metal band and I hope to hear more from these lads in the future.
What metal ought to be but sadly isn't .......2006-09-29
You just don't get this type of metal anymore. Ride off to a mystical land of swords and demons and evil bitches! The force at which this album will hit you in the crotch is beyond compare. They don't often make good metal like this anymore, so do yourself a favor and pick this one up lest the gods of metal rain vengeance down upon your puny skull.

The best of..........2005-09-28
If you're a Jack off Jill, Kindeythieves, Collide, or Otep fan; you will absolutely love this band. My Ruin Screams out everyt black thought in the back of your mind, but with a reassuring soft melody at times to pull it back. From here I'll go on and tell a little bit about each song, what I think and sich...
The pro and epi are a waste of time, and I see no use for it in the album. Un-necessary really. But I have to admit, you'll crack a smile when you hear the man's voice.
Terror, Has to be my favorite song in the entire album. IT's like a release of contradictions, which is always great to confront if I do say so myself. The simple lines that go w/the beat really makes you think about each word, you want to know the meaning behind it.
Tainted Love is another good one, I have to admit I'm a saavy MM fan, how could I not like this one? I like how they made this their song, not trying to immitate the master himself.
My beautiful Flower was awesome, I can't even put it to words. It's weird feeling you get. You have to hear it to understand, trust me!
This is truly a beautiful album, put together, not thrown together. There is no fillers in this album whatsoever!
if i speak,i will destroy.......2005-07-21
this is by far the one of the best my ruin albums.none of tairrir's lyrics and boring and this album has it's own tone and speaks to be itself.i have the uk version so i'll tell you about it........................................................
prolouge-a 6 second intro that is just unique and doesn't make much sense
terror-honestly the most rageful song on the album, speaks so loudly and honestly.i love the ending.!!!
preacher-this is an odd song and i don't really get the point but i like it and the first time i listened to it i screamed to the chorus and got yelled at.
tainted love-this is a great song by soft cell but i like tairrie's more than thiers and marilyn's.
blasphemous girl-god wants a piece of my ass!!!!!!i LOVE this song.this was the first song i heard on the album and i loved it.
close your eyes-i don't really like this one
absolution-this is my favorite song on the cd!!!!she raors so loudly and the lyrics are beautiful.
horrible pain-i like this one,the lyrics are cool and this song is slow and i love the end...but no one will EVER be able to chop of tairrie's hands!
monster-this will destroy your brain!!!!it's so damn complicated
sick with it-this rocks hard!
my beautiful flower-i've never fully listened to this song??????
diavolina-scary
june 10th-really creepy and it crawls up your spine,i like it!
bright red scream-this kind of sounds like it wasn't mixed.
cosmetic-i love the part where she just talks9the verses and chouruses.)it calms down and gets you ready for the end of the album.
sychophant-right when you thought this was gonna be calm is shoots you!!!!!!
the two outro's are a nice sitdown..............................
i have to say this isn't as good as the second or the third but it still rocks!!!!and it just sounds weird without mick!!!!!!
Finally equal rights come into the meduim of music!!!.......2004-06-27
Certainly a very powerful album by the nu/rap- metal band called "My Ruin". Every single track is laced with very pure and diffrent emotions, I have a lot of respect for feminisitic honesty in this album equal rights are very promenent issues and should be taken with respect and maturity, in particular the first track "Terror" hits home quick and fast with these issues above.
This is a stalwart in not just the metal genre but the music industry as it deals with issues that are considered taboo in todays rather ingnorant society, and I glad to say that band is still going...pure brillance!!
pretty good.......2004-05-06
Its hard to believe after hearing Tairrie B with My Ruin that she was once a rapper on Eazy-E's Ruthless Records. This band s pretty good. She does alot better at this then gangsta rap :)~
Terrible.......2004-02-12
This band and this album is absolutley terrible, i dont know what i was thinking .... asides from a terrible singer .... and c'mon its a girl, they cant even play synchronized live.

Not that great but not horrible like some people say.......2007-07-24
I've been a fan of PM5K since Mega!! Kung Fu Radio and to this day I still think that's their best album. I don't care how popular they got from the album Tonight The Stars Revolt! which is a awesome album itself but I just think Mega!! Kung Fu Radio was the real PM5K before they started the whole space thing, but hey that was cool in it's own right. It's too bad that Anyone For Doomsday? was never realeased because Spider thought it was too much of the same. It was a decent album but very rushed and short. So PM5K stripped down their sound with Transform and went with something new and more just rock n roll. I liked Transform, thought it was decent but by far my least favorite record until now. Destroy What You Enjoy is even more stripped down then the previous record and has more of a punk vibe to it. On my first listen I was like okay I'm done with PM5K but I've given more chances and I still don't care for it that much but it's not horrible or anything. If I remember correctly I think Spider is the only orginal member of the band so it's kinda hard to keep the same sound. It's sad that Heroes And Villains is the best song off the cd and it's only a live track. When I first heard that song I was excited because I thought PM5K was gettin heavier but then when I bought the cd and the whole cd sounded different so I was kinda pissed, but all complaints aside..it's not an amazing record but decent and if your a true fan of this band then give it a few more spins before you piss all over it, because it's growing on me slowly. And if this is what Spider wants to do, then so be it. People's tastes change over the years and if you can't accept that that your closed minded.
Really four and a half.......2007-05-22
This cd is awsome dude.I wasn't that big of a fan of Tonight the Stars Revolt or Transform. But this is a awsome cd.I recomend this cd to people who like old school punk bands like the Sex Pistols. My Favorite tracks are Heros and Villains,Enemies, and Now Thats Rock 'N Roll.
This is one of there best yet.......2007-05-20
This was one of the best albums of 2006 and thats saying something. Most of the reviews on this album are harsh and their coming from so called fans.Yes I was kinda bummed they didn't release Countdown to Doomsday. But this album rules, its right up there with Tonight The Stars Revolt maybe evan better.I also have to say this is not metal it's punk some people might not agree with me but it's what I think. All of the tracks are 5 star material evan the two intros. On TTST most of the tracks were less then three minutes long. But on DWYE theres just three songs that are less then three minutes long.So if your a true PM5K fan pick this up.
Great cd.......2007-03-09
This is a great cd for anyone who really is a fan of the continually changing powerman 5000. Some people only like "Tonight the Stars Revolt!", but I am a pm5k pretty much all the way. I like to listen to all the new kinds of music that they create... This is pretty much the route that the "Transform" cd was heading towards. Anyway, if you like some awesome rock (punk-ish?), get this cd!
TWF?.......2007-02-20
Why the hell did PM5K go punk? If only Anyone for Doomsday?had been relased, maybe the last three albums wouldn't have happened, ah the good old, sci-fi-enfused days are over. Between Spier and his brother Rob Zombie, why the hell did they completely change their directions this century?
