Night Time (CD by Killing Joke).......2006-11-12
I was very happy with the prompt delivery of the CD I ordered. I am very happy with it.
4 1/2 stars.......2006-04-03
Like many people posting reviews here, I was introduced to Killing Joke via the song 'Eighties'. This actually got a little rotation on college radio and late-night MTV during that decade.
I quickly found a friend who had some KJ albums, and dubbed them to cassette. However, he didn't own "Night Time", so I became a fast fan of their earlier sound instead. In short time, I had dismissed 'Eighties' as the product of sell-out syndrome and basically forgot about it for years.
Many years and music collections later, while stationed on a military base in Iceland, my interest in Killing Joke was rekindled after hearing that Jaz Coleman had lived there for some time. EG Editions was reissuing many of the old albums on CD, so I decided to purchase "Night Time" based on it's low price - not even remembering that 'Eighties' was one of the tracks.
Needless to say, "Night Time" is an album that has survived quite well. Actually, 'Eighties', while a great song, is the weakest track here.
I listen to alot of different genres but Avant-Classical, Progressive Rock and Metal are mainstays. This album, while not really any of those things, has enough to appeal to anyone who enjoys said styles.
"Night Time" is a great (re)introduction to KG. It's slightly more accessible and less texturally harsh than much of their work. It's also one of the few albums I have that is great workout music AND great 3am intimate soundtrack fodder.
I recommend most of KG's albums to anyone who appreciates a unique and sophisticated band that do things their own way. Some other bands you might find interesting are: Psychic TV, Dead Can Dance, Voivod, The Stranglers, Celtic Frost, The Damned, Hawkwind, Blue Oyster Cult, The Swans and The Chameleons.
Excellent!.......2006-02-27
This might be their most accessible album but it is also the one I prefer. The melodies are fantastic without sacrificing the punch of their approach. Very very heavy still. I saw them during the tour after this album and it really was something back then. Very very heavy 80's music.
The Perfect Album..........2006-01-26
This is Killing Joke's most accessible album for anyone interested in getting into this band or for the casual listener. You will not be disappointed! If you hate Killing Joke for whatever reason, you will instantly love this album! The best songs are here: Night Time, Love Like Blood, Kings And Queens, Multitudes, Europe, Eighties, oh and did I mention Love Like Blood? I'm very shocked to know that this album didn't give the band major success and exposure to the mainstream back then. Just because they didn't doesn't mean the album sucks. This album is the perfect New Wave rock album! Trust me! :)
Overall it works well.......2005-12-20
First off let's just say that in Love Like Blood they have made an incredible song that any band would give their lives to make. Agreeably catchy, it has all the right ingredients for a killer pop song ( and no the pun was not intended ).
As for the rest of the album......well it has it's bad moments. Tabazan and Kings and Queens have some slightly embarrassing lyrics plus Jaz Coleman's overwrought frightened-at-what-the-world-has-become vocals can be more than a little tiring, it still offers a great slab of 80s new wave pop music.
Without a shadow of a doubt this is one of Killing Joke's more commercial albums if not THE most commercial. Granted there are Brighter Than a Thousand Suns and the panned Outside The Gate ( which I have not had the mis/fortune of hearing so I cannot judge ) but this is Killing Joke at a crossroads: not as heavy as they were before, not too wishy washy. A sort of combination that happily sits inbetween.

Skip James: Hard Time Killing Floor Blues.......2007-02-10
The sound quality of his 1964 stuff may be better than his stuff from the 20's (understandably), but his performances were much better on his original, early recordings. I'm not some Blues snob, either, I'm actually just starting to get into the blues; but listening to them side by side it would be obvious to ANYONE which performance was better. Also, he used to play some awesome blues piano on a lot of his songs, it was kind of one of his trademarks--on this CD, alas, it's just guitar. You may still want to get this CD as it is some good blues, but definitely seek out his early stuff in addition. Oh, and one more thing: Skip James wrote "I'm So Glad," the song later covered by the blues-rock group Cream. But it's not on here! If you are like me and you are coming to the blues by way of British blues-rock, you'll definitely want to own James' version of "I'm So Glad."
Haunting blues..........2005-12-07
Skip James recorded the songs on this CD in 1964, the same year he was "rediscovered" and performed at the Newport Folk Festival. This is simply one of the most direct blues recordings I've heard. This is just Skip James, nothing is added to the performances. Skip James frequently sings in a melancholy falsetto and accompanies himself on acoustic guitar tuned to minor keys. Even when he sings in a lower register he sounds like he is mumbling or talking to himself, which makes the music seem turned inward, as opposed to shouting out the blues to the world. This is dark, deep, brooding blues, and is such a great listen. The sound quality is great too and it sounds like he is right in the room with you. Skip James sings of his battle with cancer on "Washington D.C. Hospital Center Blues" and of course sings about woman trouble on songs like "Devil Got My Woman", my favorite song on this CD. This is one of my favorite acoustic blues CD's, there are times when only Skip James can hit the spot. The way he delivered his vocals was unique and combined with his guitar playing made for some incredible music. If you are a fan of acoustic blues Skip James has to be in your collection, and this disc is a great place to start.
A Masterpiece in the Annuls of Blues.......2005-08-16
Where would the Delta be without Skip James? Deeper and more soulfull than Robert Johnson's Crossroads, less preachy and more down-to-earth than the Death Letter Blues of Son House, Skip James strikes a beauiful minor chord in the soul. His soft hand on the guitar blends with the sweet eeriness of his voice in such perfect musical and emotional harmony as to command the casual listener to catch every note with the ear and savor each chord with his heart. A must-have in any respectable blues collection.
Wonderful slice of Blues history, w/ excellent sound quality!.......2005-08-03
I often find myself frustrated when I track down the recordings of various Blues legends, only to find the sound quality terrible. I grew up on Blues inspired Rock, and spent countless hours analyzing chords and solos, and find myself less than satisfied with scratchy hissing recordings of the Blues greats.
This recording is wonderful! The sound quality is fantastic, as he returned to record this in 1964. The price of the CD is worth it just to get the title song, and the rest of the CD demonstrates his range. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

TINA COUSINS - Excellent,brilliant,amazing,sexy!!.......2003-12-02
Killing Time by the amazing Tina Cousins has got to be one of the best albums ever. This woman is so talented, not only has she the greatest voice I have heard but is also the best looking woman EVER!! (she's damn gorgeous)This album is full of dance/pop beauties with catchy melodic songs. 2003/04 is going to be a big year for her. WOW!! BUY NOW!!
FABULOUS.......2003-09-02
These songs are all good. Its pop music but its good. You can listen to the whole thing, I rarely listen to every song on an album. Its a few years now I dont care its still amazing. Its not very famous (anywhere) but its fabulous.
My favourite songs are angel, turn back time and until the day. I like all the songs alot.
If you like good female singers you will like this. None of the songs ever get skipped.
HATS OFF TO TINA...A GREAT DEBUT.......2003-04-07
Tina Cousins first hit the dance scene with a colaboration with Sash!- Mysterious Times. When I first heard this song, I instantly bought the single and awaited for her album to surface (likewise with Sash!). Tina proved her career with her first Australian solo release FOREVER...a great dance tune with a up beat pace that doesn't go overboard on the electronic sounds. Her voice is the asset to the song, and the chorus is quite catch like most of herb songs. The album doesn't scream dance music. It also shows her blues/jazz style with tracks like UNTIL THE DAY and THE FOOL IS ME. But, if you are into the dance scene, do not be taken away by that comment...this album still delivers in that area!!! The song PRAY is another dance song that has a choir feel to it when the chrous kicks in. ANGEL is a breathy light dance tune, likewise with LIVE AND BREATHE! The opening track is a great intro to the album, KILLIN' TIME illustrates the dance feel of the whole album...so if you like the first track- you'll love the album for sure. If you are lucky enough, try and score yourself the tour edition...it has some great remixes- i believe it was only an Australian release seeing that Australia was her biggest market for her music! It's now 2003- and we are still waiting for her to dance her way back- C'mon Tina- we are waiting with hats off!!!!
Avid music fan of every genre, New Jersey.......2003-02-15
Fantastic! Possibly her best two works with DJ Sash! Mysterious Times and Just Around The Hill. Just another example of great talent untapped and unrecognized in the US. Lets get this baby where she belongs; at the top of the charts and in the limelight. Yes, there IS life beyond rap.
quality disc - sleeper - ignored by pop stations so far.......2001-01-27
I tracked down this album after hearing "pray" one time on my local pop/dance station. may be a little "soft" for electronica fans, but every song is good. recalls more melodic hits of the '80s, plus the radio stations aren't ruining it with overexposure!

Customer Reviews:
Easily the Best Avant-Rock Album of the 80s.......2007-04-23
Fred Frith, Fred Maher, and Bill Laswell power Killing Time, undoubtedly the finest avant-rock studio recording of the 1980s. One mark of great art is timelessness, and maybe 25 years isn't an eternity exactly, but over a quarter century after the album was recorded it sounds as fresh as ever. Forgive the oversimplification but imagine Ruins or Naked City but without the short attention span-ish Carl Stallings-esque sensibility. Killing Time is as close to being a perfect rock instrumental recording as any recording I know. Invention, power, execution, vision, uniqueness. On my top 10 list of all-time recordings.
Power PUNK Prog!.......2003-11-06
Killing Time is an absolute power prog masterpiece of writing and playing! It is interesting in that some people call this punk and some progressive. It is complex, musical mastery with exceptional musicians with prog backgrounds. It is interesting to me as well that the sheer anger and fury with which this record was made is right in keeping with the energy of the punk-rock movement of that time... but nobody is breaking their instruments here (smile)! Contrast in to Playbak80 by Daevid Allen. Dark complex and forboding. Excellent spin!
zonked.......2003-05-13
This is probably what The Magic Band - circa Trout Mask Replica/Lick My Decals Off, Baby - would've sounded like if they'd hired Arto Linday as an additional guitar player and tried to be punk.
A couple of corrections to the reviews below :
1 - this album was recorded in '81, not in the late 70s, so they were right in the thick of the No Wave movement.
2 - this is not a "Bill Laswell production". He was just a member of the group. In fact there are no production credits on the album, so I think it's safe to assume that it was "produced" collectively by the group.
True No-Wave!!!.......2001-03-08
Amazing!!! Although it sounds like a new "no-wave" release, this was actually recorded in the late 70's-not bad for an era of flared jeans and disco fever. This record pummels, jerks and roars like a broken robot on the freeway. It's a shame that musicians today are not nearly as daring as this trio. A must for fans of U.S. Maple, Melvins & Boredoms - It's not heavy metal...just HEAVY.
Bill Laswell's early genius!.......1999-12-13
This album is one of the finest 80'ies-avantgarde-rock recordings at all! Funky, elegant and full of an intellectual and artistic flavour. You can really feel the creative and sometimes very humourus way both bass, guitar and drums are treated. It is also a relatively early Bill Lasweel production, and seriously, I don't think he has done any better bassplaying than here! Remember Laswell has produced more than 50 albums, (Herbie Hancock, Material etc.), and here you find his characteristic style in a young and unspoiled version. I highly recommend this album for all 1980-culture feinschmeckers!

Forgotten Gem.......2007-07-21
Alot of people confuse this band with the american christian punk band of the same name. When infact they are an obscure 90's shoegaze band. Think Elastica meets lush. Sadly their only album, these guys remain in the shadow of their peers. If your into Dream pop/shoegaze I would totally pick this up. You can't beat the price.
No Christian "Punk" here, just the real thing!.......2005-06-24
For all of you Christian punkers who feel disappointment that this band, the original Bleach, isn't what you're looking for, think again! This album is real punk, and much more. From the pounding & unwaivering drums, the searing sonic guitars, and the forceful and melodic vocals, few albums from the early 90's keep up the pace, the complexity, the heavenly noise, and the overwhelming driving beat of this album. Perhaps one of the decade's most criminally overlooked albums, Killing Time might convert you to the way rock & roll evolved into damned fine indie pop/punk bliss.
This needed a Parental Advisory sticker.......2004-03-02
Okay, when I bought this disk, I thought I was buying an album from the Christain punk band known as Bleach, this is not them however. The music is like 70's pot induced music, and it does not have a lyric sheet, even though it's quite clear that the female lead singer blasts the 'f' word ALOT. A big dissapointment even though I only paid 85 cents for it.
Bleach (U.K.) Stands Above the Crowd.......2000-06-21
The year 1992 was a historic one for anyone interested in British popular music. The greatest album of the 90's, "Spooky" by Lush, somehow managed to disappoint fans and critics alike. Some implied that the sound quality was too polished and not abrasive enough. Bleach's only album, "Killing Time" (1992), would appear to avoid those "shortcomings" while still sounding like a sister band of Lush. Salli Carson's singing style was breathtakingly similar to that of Miki Berenyi's-think "Blackout", with the sudden shift between a high angelic voice and a lower, Elastica-style, in-your-face snarl. While many girl-bands have been compared to 1996-era Lush, Bleach is the only one comparable to pre-1996 Lush. And now to some individual songs: "Paint My Face" is the most Lush-like song ever recorded, with soaring angelic vocals and stratospheric, dreamy guitars from guitar hero Neil Singleton. "Push" is an fast, overwhelming rush of Ned's Atomic Dustbin-style guitars and rhythm sung in Carson's aggressive, lower voice-notice how she shifts speeds in mid-sentence. This is a very intense album that's both dreamy and aggressive and worthy of the glory of Lush. The talent is obvious and it's a shame the band disappeared without getting a chance to be heard-they could easily have been as popular as Elastica or the Cranberries.

Funker Vogt eke out an existence on the same desolate, war-torn musical landscape as their German countrymen :Wumpscut:. You know the drill: heavily distorted vocals, brutal mechanical beats, and obscure movie samples. But before you peg Funker Vogt as just another cog in the faceless machine of industrial dance music, take a listen to this two-CD set of remixes and new material (comprising three previously import-only EPs). Matching pound for pound the aggressiveness and energy Funker Vogt bring to their craft is a distinct musicality. "Take Care (U.S. Remix)" marries an epic synth line to growling vocals that melt away to etherealness in the chorus. And on "Vision"--which, with its slower tempo and somber keyboards, almost qualifies as a ballad--vocalist Jens Kästel manages to convey emotion through the distortion effects. Other highlights include the rave-friendly mixes of "Killing Fields" and the multilayered grooves of "The Third War (Original Mix)." So what are you waiting for? Grab your partner and head to a postapocalyptic dance floor near you! --Steve Landau
Customer Reviews:
Pathetic effort........2001-10-10
Funker Vogt is already quite well known with their electro-hard industrial sounds. While they haven't really made anything groundbreaking tracks, they have made some tracks that are catchy and hard. However, they skipped a step here with no decent effort. This is a remix cd yet the remixes are bland. I can not express how disappointed I was when the remixes only revealed slight changes or overdone distortion. Then again, the electro/industrial scene hasn't really been groundbreaking the last 5-10 years.
A nice collection of remixes...and a few new songs too.......2000-11-20
If you're not a devoted fan of Funker Vogt, you might not be very impressed with this 2 CD set of remixes. There are some songs on Killing Time Again that stand out on their own though...mainly the new songs and the remixes of Killing Fields. Some of the tracks on here do sound sort of experimental or bland, but for the most part I was pleased. If you love Funker Vogt's music and are looking for an additional fix to tide you over till their next full album, by all means get Killing Time Again. If you've never heard Funker Vogt before, get one of their full albums like Execution Tracks, Maschine Zeit, or We Came To Kill to familiarize yourself with their sound.
only 2 reasons to buy, but 2 good reasons.......2000-03-14
First things first. Almost all of the other songs arent very good. But evil's birth and vision are so good that it is worth buying the album for just those two songs.
Not Vogt's best........1999-12-02
Funker Vogt are rather good at having their own style in the admittedly cliched field of electro-industrial music. This is probably their most generic effort, however. Disc 1 - with the exception of two rather repetitive remixes of "Killing Fields" - is largely a winner, and features the astounding song "Vision". It's all downhill from there though. Disc 2 is all remixes, and generally not very good ones. Most of the remixes either hack the songs down to industrial-dance filler, or are so close to the original song (e.g. the Killing Fields remixes, Wartime) that the remix seems unnecessary. My advice: Skip this and get We Came To Kill instead.
Listen Carefully.......1999-07-30
This CD was quite interesting at first, I mean the music was great...the lyrics...harsh. My first impression was: "This band sucks. They don't know how to sing." But strangely enough, I have grown to like the band a whole lot. The words somehow complete the songs. I mean if they just sang the words like normal bands, they wouldn't be Funker Vogt. The almost screaming words somehow blend in with the melodies the more you listen to them. This CD is wonderful and I hope to buy more of theirs. If you like Rammstein, KMFDM, etc. DEFINATELY buy this CD. Overall...harsh, but genuinely satisfying!

Customer Reviews:
The later US rerelease, not the original UK.......2005-06-15
When (like many British electronic bands) the Orb's stuff was first released in the US, the labels just assumed Americans wouldn't be able to handle it, so often times singles and albums were altered (indeed, Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld was only available in that horrid one-disc version in the US for about 4 years). So instead of getting the original Little Fluffy Clouds single (which was made up of the Orb's remixes of the track) available in the UK, the US got this one. Here's a breakdown:
1 Little Fluffy Clouds (Dance Mix MK 1 Edit) (3:59)
2 Little Fluffy Clouds (Inner Master Mix) (3:58)
Remix - Coldcut
3 Little Fluffy Clouds (Cumulo Nimbus Mix) (6:10)
Remix - Pal Joey
4 Little Fluffy Clouds (Dance MK 2) (8:25)
Remix - Thrash
5 Little Fluffy Clouds (Heavyweight Dub) (6:30)
Remix - Coldcut
6 Outlands (Fountain Of Elisha Mix) (8:00)
Remix - Thomas Fehlmann
Track 1 is the album version, minus a sample or two. Tracks 2 and 5 were remixes by Coldcut, who were big in the US after having remixed "Paid In Full", and yeah, did sorta start the idea of remixers radically altering originals (before then, remixes really did just alter the mix of tracks, maybe add some overdubs or something, but did little to the core of the song), but here, not much is added, and the results do sound pretty dated. Track 4 is mainly an extended version of the original. Tracks 3 and 6 both appeared on the Aubrey Ultraworld Excursions remix album, and are pleasant enough remixes. Should you get this? If you're a collector or have always wondered what a meeting of Coldcut and the Orb would be like, then yes. Otherwise, try and get the original UK single (which has 4 tracks) and the Aubrey mixes album.
