DJ Baby Anne brings the nu breaks style to Las Vegas for Mixed Live, part of the Moonshine labels ongoing series of recorded live sets. Like past entries in the series from Carl Cox and AK1200, Baby Annes dirty, intensely danceable sound works well in this format, effectively conveying the kinetic energy of her act. A combination of breakbeats, drum & bass, and old-school techno, nu breaks has an organic, retro feel that Baby Anne gets just right. Tracks like Sharazs "Brain Damage" and Merlyns "Solar Flares" share minimal textures with snap-and-crackle beats, while Baby Annes self-produced "Down To Zero" flirts with Fischerspooner-like electro. Shes also willing to get evil for darker material like "Nightmare 2002," which gives her set some variety, and the crowd a chance to gather itself for the next big break. As a further bonus, the CD comes with a 5.1 Surround Sound DVD, to give you an even stronger "you-are-there" feel. --Matthew Cooke

Club Ra, located in the Luxor Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip is one of the city's premiere venues. Baby Anne laid down her signature Big Breaks sound to a packed house on February 28th, 2003. We were there to record the mix and capture the crowd reaction from all corners of the club. Mediocre at best........2004-02-16
The last two cd realeases have been weak in comparison with the first 3.
I remember the release of Bass Queen vol.1, it was like a breath of fresh air. It would turn my car/home into a local club(New Orleans). This is true no longer.
Once a never miss a local gig Baby Anne fan, I do not intend to go out of my way to see her play here. Her recent set at the House of Blues was lame in my opinion.
Maybe I'm expecting too much, or maybe Im still caugh in the breaks sound I so loved in 1998-2001 but something is definitely wrong here.
The few decent tracks on this live mix cd were played out long before the release of this mix. Maybe it is because breaks are so popular in my local clubs that this did nothing to move me, but 5 stars some of you, gimme a break!
Bass Queen, what happened? Is it your fancy new record label contract? Come on, you can tell us. Why are you releasing these cds?????????
If you like break beat it does not get any better than this!.......2004-02-01
