Is it me or is 2002 turning out to be a stellar year for music? So far we've heard laud-worthy efforts from N.E.R.D., Timo Maas, Playgroup, High Contrast and Recloose, all early candidates for year-end Top 10 lists (best of all, these records represent an aggressively panoramic range of vibes, from brainy pop-hop to punk-funked disco). A few rotations into Everyone Loves You and it sounds like we can safely add Berlin duo Naomi to that lofty league.

At first listen, it's easy to wonder why Naomi isn't an automatic lock for those endless "chill-out" compilations like Zero 7 and Bent; Naomi crafts similar sad-eyed soup of smoky pop-hop (no tripping, please!). It's a sonic landscape where influences run from St. Etienne at their most lovelorn ("White," featuring the soothing voice of Selda Kaya) to maudlin sing-a-longs that the Pet Shop Boys would give their Issey Miyake sock collection for ("Everyone Loves You When You're Down"). Kaya also adds her sultry whisper to the moody house pulse of "Heavy Little Lights," a track that's screaming for a 12-inch release (subtle hint).

They turn up the irony on the disco-fied "We Are So Beautiful" (another one the Pet Shop Boys forgot to write) before delivering the next big chill-out anthem, the uplifting blast of beatific bliss, "Go." It's again powered by the soaring vocals of my new girlfriend, Selda Kaya (did I just say that out loud?). Ending on the gently pleading "Anybody Here?," Everyone Loves You is one worthy of marking time by.

Their best album in my opinion.......2005-05-23

I first downloaded some songs of Dead And Gone from this album from the Alternative Tentacles site after reading this band was a mix of early Neurosis, latter day Black Flag and Dead Kennedys.
I loved what I heard.
So I picked up their first album "TV Baby" from Prank Records. It was a bit more raw than this album, the songs weren't probably as powerful, but they were still good.
Then I picked this album up. What a great album. I love everything about this album. The song structures, the vocals, the music etc etc
A week or so back, I picked up their 3rd album "The Beautician".
It's on the same level as this, except Shane's vox seemed to have changed a bit over their break.
I wish i'd have heard of these guys earlier as they are one of the best bands i've heard lately.
I hope they are still together and put out another album soon.

Classic Berkeley Punk!!!.......2000-09-19

This is a great album by a bunch of talented musicians. It is very dark and has a great sound. Worth a listen.

Kelly Hops Again!.......2001-04-01

Compared to the "original" cast album, which was the two writers and a piano, this album is a dream. Still, it would have been great to hear the original orchestrations instead of a studio band. The performances on this CD give the show some credibility, unlike the first album. One wants to see more of this type of thing done. But put in the original orchestrations. How about Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Yearling, La Strada? If you are a serious collector nab this while you can.

HAVING BEEN ONE OF THE VERY FEW WHO SAW "KELLY" in 1965,I WAS VERY PLEASED TO FIND THIS STUDIO RECORDING OF THE ORIGINAL MUSIC. I DO MEAN ORIGINAL. SOME OF THE SONGS THAT WERE WRITTEN WERE LATER REMOVED BY A GROUP OF PANIKY PRODUCERS PRIOR TO THE NEW YORK OPENING. THEIR ACTIONS RESULTED IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SHOW THAN HAD BEEN ENVISIONED BY THE COMPOSERS. IT ALSO MADE "KELLY" A MONUMENTAL FLOP SO MUCH SO THAT ITS DEMISE WAS THE SUBJECT OF A COVER STORY IN "SATURDAY EVENING POST". IF YOU READ THE CD NOTES..IT IS ALL EXPLAINED THERE. THE CD IS DEDICATED TO MOOSE CHARLAP. THE PERFORMERS ARE FIRST RATE, INCLUDING BRIAN D'ARCY JAMES (TITANIC) AND RIGHT OUT OF THE 60'S, SANDY STEWART. IT MAY HAVE SOME SHORTCOMINGS, BUT OVERALL..EDDIE LAWRENCE SCORED WITH THIS CD!

TO START OFF WITH. THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A BROADWAY CAST ALBUM. IT SOUNDS LIKE AN OFF BROADWAY ALBUM BY LISTENING TO THE ORCHESTRA. IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE A BAND THAN AN ORCHESTRA. SECOND,I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE SCORE FROM THE ORIGINAL SHOW. WELL, READINNG MY BEST PLAYS OF 1964-1965, THEY LIST THE SONGS ON OPENING NIGHT AND A BUNCH OF SONGS ARE NOT ON THE ALBUM AND SONGS ON THE ALBUM ARE NOT LISTED IN THE BOOK. I AM CONFUSED. ANWAY, WHATEVER IS ON THE CD IS FAIR. ALL THE PERFORMERS ARE FIRST RATE, BUT LISTENING TO THE CD, IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE MUCH. PRETTY AVERAGE MUSIC. TAKE A LESSON FROM THE DRAT!THE CAT! RECORDING ON VARESE SARABANDE. NOW THATS A GREAT STUDIO CAST ALBUM. Great Chill-Down-Trip-Groove.......2007-03-09

I originally picked this up for "Go" but the whole CD has a great Chillout, Downtempo, Trip-Hop Groove running through it that is just right. None of these genres overpowers any of the others but they're all there, layered and mixed in just the right proportions.

There's quite a bit of variety across the song mix so there's enough going on to keep you interested but it all stays tied together by a nice groove. You can lounge on the couch and tap your toes or get up and shake your booty. Either way it'll be sweet and smooth. It's great for relaxing on the couch with a glass of wine or as not-too-loud background music at a dinner party.

This album like the other reviewers said is very GOOD. It has good varitety, meaning you'll never hear the same track twice. I also think the guest singers compliment the album well. The music is top of the line and the production is also very well done. If you like downtempo I have no doubt this will become one of your favorite albums.

Modern Music for Downtempo Listening.......2002-10-08

Its hard to describe music drawn from so many sources. A wonderful collection of electro infused downbeat, with hints of dub, pop sensibilities, and some world for good measure. All tastefully swirled into a beautiful composition which many artists strive for, but rarely achieve with such focus. Its hard to pick favorite tracks because each one draws attention to itself yet stays true to the overall flow of the album. Lots of good things to look forward to from this new artist.

Great trip hop -- very mellow and smooth, beautiful vocals that perfectly compliment and don't overpower the grooves.

well i bought this cd immediately for the Bush Comedown remix, and just fell in love with it. you can listen to the whole thing straight through and it just takes you to another place, gives you a strange feeling. this album is soooo good, and i'm not into this kind of music at all. trust me, buy it!
