A Classic CD/ The Concerts Were Wonderful........2006-09-14
I saw Mr. Palmer at The Roxy in West Hollywood on the Tour for this album. Robert played 3 nights, 2 shows a night, I remember after meeting him that he told me "The record company is recording these shows for my next album". Anyway.. back to the show. Robert started the show with "Work To Make It Work", the band was well rehersed and he had 2 Female backup singers. I was a kid, and wanting to witness "history", I saw all 3 nights and the shows got better as I got to know the set list. He did most of Pressure Drop, and assorted songs fron "Sneakin Sally". When we talked after the 1st night, Robert said "he was excited to be releasing a live album". I told him "I'll be the 1st person to buy it when it comes out". He was impressed with this 14 year old Fan from Los Angeles. The next release from Robert was a studio album, and I was Bummed Out. But I'll never forget Robert, lookin' oh so sharp, Crooning 'Back In my Arms", the girls were swooning. The Creole tunes like "Here With You Tonight" had a swinging bouncy feel live. Boy, Folks.. This was an unforgettable evening. I miss Robert, I saw him at House of Blues while he was on tour for his last CD. The guy was a pro. Pressure Drop is a must have CD. Gotta love this man, and his music.
A blue-eyed soul must-have.......2006-03-30
As has been pointed out elsewhere, this showcases Robert Palmer when he had some serious soul, before the "Addicted to Love" period. Featuring Little Feat in their prime, this is a must-have LP for anybody who considers him/herself a fan of blue-eyed soul, or who just enjoys the Feat groove.
Little Feet featuring Robert Palmer.......2005-08-29
I was a moderate Robert Palmer fan but when I heard that he did this Album Pressure Drop and his backup band was Little Feet I had to get it, and I was very happy I did. It is like finding a missing Little Feet Album and so many signature toons...Must have if your a Little Feet fan and if you just like Palmer.
FINE,Savvy R&B,Reggae & Funk Flavors.......2003-10-04
Robert Palmer+snazzy suit (as always) delivers not only a classic album cover but a record filled with the deep funk of
"Work To Make It Work","Fine Time" and "Trouble",the upbeat
Carribean-style reggae of the tital song and catchy pop/soul numbers like "Give Me And Inch","Back In My Arms" and "Here With
You Tonight".This is primal,Little Feat/Meters-influenced Robert
Palmer with that great New Orleans Dr.John'ilke funky feel-before
Palmer's hard rock productions took over and along with his other
three mid 70's albums a perfect example of this genre!

Customer Reviews:
struggle to overcome!.......2006-12-02
Serious reggae listeners argue a lot about these Trojan albums, especially in regards to the sheer amount of times new label bosses Sanctuary release the same songs on different compilations -- but surely these are minor and relatively insignificant objections when one considers the value for money and the enduring quality of the music on these albums.
(A possible objection to this otherwise comprehensive and worthy compilation is that "Six and Seven Books of Moses" and the Maytals Rasta/Rockers late 70's interpretation of "Bam Bam" are -- sadly-- excluded.)
"When I Laugh" will be a minor revelation for Delta blues fans, with it's distinctly Robert Johnson blues vocal style and brass section reminiscent of The Dirty Dozen New Orleans octet.
"My New Name" -- like "Six and Seven Books" -- has a Cajun abandon to the vocal and rhythm.
The version of "Bam Bam" on CD 1 is the mid 60's cut, not the later confident, confessional Rasta meditation which appeared on the Island anthology. (It is worth noting that Chaka Demus and Pliers also released their own digital interpretation of this tune on the same backing track as "Murder She Wrote.")
"Bim Today" has a thudding b line reminiscent of Junior Delgado's "Tichion." "Scare Him" has a full speed and reckless Rockers rimshot snare pattern.
Cd 2 moves -- from jazz influenced bluebeat and ska -- into Toot's distinctive soulful reggae incarnation .
"It's You" on this 2nd cd gets the reggae treatment over a slower b line, contrasting with the earlier frantic ska interpretation. "Time Tough" is a stand out track here, with its fearful, yet stoic lyric about the struggle of life.

Album Description
Out of print in the U.S.! From his solo debut in the mid '70s to his death three decades later, Robert Palmer was one of Rock's finest vocalists, with each performance filled with soul, power and emotion. His undying musical creativity ensured that each of his albums would retain his signature sound, yet would be a successful step in a different direction. He was truly a Rock chameleon, as this album proves. Originally released in 1976, Pressure Drop features nine tracks including 'Give Me An Inch', 'Which Of Us Is The Fool' and 'Work To Make It Work' Universal.

Customer Reviews:
It's a shame that it's gone out of print..........2004-05-28
This album is chock-full of excellent early trip/hop tracks most influenced by jazz and r&b. This (and the Volume 1 edition) introduced me to trip-hop and eventually electronic music in the early 90's, and to this day I still listen to it when I want some mellow but not at all boring or newagey music to chill by. Kruder & Dorfmeister, Massive Attack, Portishead and Hooverphonic fans will probably find this record to their liking.
Most Dope for the Dollar.......1998-09-13
This recording brings drum & bass jungle to a current level of hip-hop awareness with its ability to fuse after-club drive-home twilight fuzzies with down-to-silicon beats even a newbe would appreciate. No played-out Pentium 1 rehash! A serious five-*!

Subtle Charmer.......2005-08-27
Okay, it took a while for this album to grow on me, but wow! once it did, it simply knocked me out! The album is a bit on the long side (over an hour) but weaves in psychedelia, reggae, electronica, classical, funk, avant-garde, and personal politics all into a kaleidescope of colors and tones that will have you humming at the most unusual times of day. After a few listens, you will very likely find yourself actually relaxing more each time you listen. They may not get the press of groups like air, but they have easily as much talent...
A hidden gem of the world of psychedelia.......2003-03-14
I stumbled upon this CD purely by accident. Listened to it a few times and thought, well, this is interesting, but it wasn't until I slapped it on during a particularly fierce mushroom trip that I really GOT it. I have a good older audiophile quality system, and in a dark room with the volume plentiful, I moved around INSIDE of the music on this album, and was awestruck. It is fully obvious to me that this album was crafted specifically to lead one through a trip, with tension and release, fear and comforting, sadness and resolution, in waves coming with the different songs. Absolutely a masterpiece when viewed in this light, and heartily recommended for that 'special experience'. These guys knew what they were doing, and did it well. Check it out under psychedelic influence, and see if you don't agree. Masterful, touching, beautiful, and intense. Happy trails!
How to review?.......1999-05-21
OK, it seems that single tracks on this CD are a little bit long-winded. But nevertheless it's a vigorous sign of life by Pressure Drop. And we need them. Because their wording and music is simple great. From my point of view it's a big bang to have nowadays artists like P.D. All my best and five ***** for their presence.
Good start, needs work.......1998-10-30
the tracks on this album that are good are really good. But the rest definitly need some work. this band has a similar flavor to massive attack, but they just dont have the same flair yet. But I think it will come out.
Intriguing, but raw.......1998-08-25
Some moments on this album knock you out of the ballpark, but those moments are few and far between, separated by sometimes annoying "supa-diva" vocals and spoken word/singsong elements. Otherwise, innovative, rooted music for the groove set.

One word description: JOYOUS!.......2002-12-11
I just picked up this CD. There may be other Toots and the Maytals compilations out there that are more comprehensive, but I LOVE this one. As I said in the title, this wonderful music is JOYOUS. It will put a smile on your face and make you want to dance. God bless Toots and the Maytals.
Toots Hibbert: The King of Old-Skool Reggae.......1999-02-22
First let me make a distinction: There's reggae and then there's Marley. Marley is a god, but he is also the king of a breed of music that is entirely his own.
When it comes to pure old-skool, shake-your-rump-Reggae, Toots & The Maytals are the undisputed champions. Their music IS reggae. It's the sound that every other reggae band has tried to duplicate, but has only managed to emulate. Toots, a.k.a. "The Ska Father," makes music that moves you, not spiritually or emotionally, but in raw physical sense. His songs (particularly "54-46" and "Pressure Drop") are just fun!
Recently I had the opportunity to Toots perform live at the TLA in Philly, and I must say that while he may appear aged, he's still a kid at heart. He pours every ounce of energy he's got into his shows. That one concert was the most amazing inn-person musical experience I've ever had. Mid-way through the show he literally invited the audience up onto the stage, where I and everybody who felt the urge cut loose to the band's thumping reggae beats. Toots even took the time between songs to shake every audience member's hand as they climbed down from the stage.
This album is incredible. It's jam packed with 75 minutes of classic riddims; songs maybe you've never heard but have always felt. Taken from the original 8-tracks, the songs (all 24 of them) preserve their antique feel.
An essential album for anyone who loves music that makes you feel good. A classic.
