Dynamite Spiritual Being.......2001-03-16
I had the pleasure of meeting Pam Fleming at Skylab Recording Studio on Long Island, NY. Her trumpet playing immediately intrigued me. I became an instant fan. When I heard her CD I had to share it with the people around me. Everyone loves her music!! You've got to check it out!!!
Outstanding, an incredible CD!!!!.......1999-04-09
An outstanding CD by a very talented artist. Pamela's trumpet and flugelhorn sing with a voice all her own. There is a wide variety of beat and feeling on this CD, making it both relaxing and exciting! I highly reccomend this for everyone!!!

The Greatest Trance Mix Of All Time?.......2006-07-09
Well...
Somewhere between Tiësto's In Search of Sunrise and Oakenfold's Tranceport lies Armin van Buuren's Boundaries Of Imagination, and man does it feel good to be stuck in the middle. Like the two just mentioned, this is one of the definitive trance compilations. In fact, it is arguably the best trance mix ever made.
Buuren, like Tiësto, has a knack for soaring female vocals, and Sander Kleinenberg's Sacred makes this point clear, but the Ferry Corsten remix of Liberation makes it crystal clear. Liberation is definitely one of the highlights of the mix. These two songs come after Buuren's own personal introduction, Thank God for Music, which in a haphazard but deliberate way actually thanks himself for the joy this mix truly is.
Solar Stone's Seven Cities changes the mood of the mix abruptly, but by the end of the song the stringy synth sounds have become welcome. You Won't See Me Cry sweeps the mix along nicely with its dynamic rise and fall electro-vibe sound, and Apperception is good enough to keep most listeners excited. C Sharp could be considered a highlight, with its tweaked out, screaming chords that lead into Buuren's waxed out remix of Dido. With an opera-like vocal performance and stark quasi-organ samples, Buuren manages to mix the darkness with the light on this track.
The next track, Gamemaster, which I first heard on Oakenfold's Tranceport, is a classic, and although it can be irritating to hear the same song in two different mixes, it fits perfectly here.
Alright. After Gamemaster, things get serious. By the time Gamemaster ends, you should be wide awake with wet eyes and shaky limbs, because Voco Me lights the whole mix on fire. I live on the Great Plains, where huge fields stretch for miles and the roads are long and straight. I heard the last 5 tracks of this mix while driving on these roads, and when Voco Me came on my foot got heavy in a hurry. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing, and I was flying. There are places you go the first time you hear great music, and those places stay in your heart and mind forever. I will never forget the first time I heard this mix.
After Voco Me, the absolute rush continues with Future Funland. I cannot believe Armin van Buuren made this song (Perpetuous Dreamer is an alias of his). This song is downright enthralling. It is an anthem of joy, absurdity, and ear-to-ear smiles that takes you to another world. It is beautiful, just beautiful. Come 2-gether is great as well, and although it isn't nearly as good as Future Funland, it drives the mix along appropriately with peaks that playfully flirt with the red.
Namistal, the next track, changes things up a bit. Nevertheless, BT's presence is always appreciated, and his signature melodies mesh well with Buuren's imaginative landscape of sounds. Buuren moves to his mix of C'est Musique quickly with a short transition that may surprise you at first, but do not discount Buuren's DJ skills. Long transitions can become tedious over time, and short transitions can serve as a kind of electric shock that revives you and gets you into the mix again. This is necessary after Namistal, which feels slightly outside the rest of the mix. The warped vocals on C'est Musique are as cool as ice. The melody works because it seems to be winding the mix down... right into the final track.
Tiësto's presence is felt here, and how nice for it to be at the end of the mix. Wonder... Exactly! Wonder is exactly what I felt after the end of this mix. The door is closed, the mix is over, and all I want to do is turn around and go back inside.
It seems like Buuren actually tweaked out the entire mix, making each song sound a little like every other song. I don't know whether or not he went over the entire thing once it was recorded, or if he just picked songs which all sound very much alike, or if his remixes of the songs were for the sake of making the album mix sound whole, but there is a bottom line here: Armin van Buuren is one of the world's best DJs, and this mix is a definitive classic that any trance listener must own.
- I've listened to this mix countless times since I first reviewed it. I've had time to let it simmer and here is the verdict - Boundaries Of Imagination and In Search Of Sunrise are equal.
So, technically, this is the greatest trance compilation of all time.
Buy it... if you can find it!
Amazing.......2005-12-08
This is one of Armin's best work. The mixing and song selection are flawless. There are plenty of melodic and euphoric moments that tickle your brain. Enjoy the jouney.
Great but not the best........2005-01-22
I found that Boundaries of Imagination starts on a rather low note, with a bit too much cheese to my liking. It is by no means bad, or even mediocre, but as a fan of Armin Van Buuren I've come to expect something different, and that is why I was slightly dissapointed. Fortunately this is no longer an issue once the set progresses. The selection is otherwise excellent, and the mixing is some of the best I've ever heard (including those first few tracks I otherwise didn't like so much).
It's filled with emotion, from start to finish, and doesn't stop for a minute. It is by no means perfect, nor is it Armin Van Buuren's best work, but definately a masterpiece anyhow, as are most of Armin's sets. Worth the buy for any Trance fan.
I hesitate between a rating of 4 and a rating of 5. A 4.5 would have been more suitable.
Unbelievable themed track selection and trance experience........2004-08-29
The tracks on here all blend so well into the CD, all DJ mixes should just be 1 disc. In fact, my 3 top trance DJ mixes are all one cd's: Tiesto's ISOS3, Ronski Speed's Positive Ways 3, and this one. You just can't keep one's attention all the way through two CD's.
This mix is a keeper and never sounds dated. The reviewer who said it's dated and cheesy, I wonder what the heck you could be listening to right now, because it must be bad, very bad trance. And saying it's Armin's worst and to get all his other CD's is actually just the opposite. While Armin is a top live mixer and his radio mixes I've heard have all been superb, his CD releases have been mediocre at best, and not ones to keep in your collection.
This CD is one that you will want to just keep hitting play after it stops, all day long. The melodic trance just takes it to a whole other plateau. He raised the bar after this mix, to a height he could never reach again, nor can many others (exceptions: Ronski Speed and Tiesto).
Simply put, if you love trance, this one has to be in your collection, as it's one of the top 3 trance CD's in the history of trance.
Worst Trance CD.......2004-05-11
Dont waste your money on this cd as I did. Worst Armin Van Buuren Cd made. I have all his cd's and this is the worst of them. Very simple and annoying trance songs. I think at the time the cd came out the sounds were "cutting edge" but now 5-6 years latter its just cheesy and bad. As always he did a good job mixing but this cd is just not good. I suggest buying all the other armin cd's ( very good music selection found there) excpect for this one

Portrait of an Artist.......2007-02-14
This is my favorite Armin van Buuren mix that I have ever sampled. Hands down, it seems to be a winner all around. The seamless mixing and superbly insightful track selection provides this album with the strenth to pull its own weight amongst other albums. And, do not misunderstand me; I love getting 140 minutes (two discs) of music vs. 70 minutes when I make a purchase; with Boundaries of Imagination, however, I think the condensation of the music into a single-disc, fifteen-track mix really benefits the album. Anything that could concievably be considered "extra baggage" material was discarded, leaving us with the bare-bottom essentials for a simply awesome musical journey.
I gave this album five stars based on two observations - already mentioned (yet worthy of a second), the flawless track selection coupled with surprisngly impeccable mixing. Armin's mixing abilities are nothing certainly top-class, but this album anoints him placement amongst artists like John Digweed and Dave Seaman. This is certainly a portrait of an artist as far as Armin goes and I am very happy to have landed this in my dance collection.
The second reason I rated this so highly is because I felt Armin does what Dave Seaman does with his "Renaissance: Awakening" release; he stays true to his own stylistic format, yet found it within himself to take a lot of chances with some pretty accessible vocal insertions, catchily driving bass with momentum and, lastly, adding just a touch of otherworldly multiculturalism into the flow. A lot of DJ's take chances, sure; Sasha's Fundacion NYC may well be one of the more recent examples of this. But not all of these chances necessarily work out, and some make for an absolutely terrible album (re: Fundacion). For Armin, taking that risk landed a release parallel to what I regard as Seaman's best mix to date as well: Both based on the same attributes. Worlds above Armin's recent work, Armin van Buuren decidedly defines the boundaries separating the good from the great.

I finally found a friend who listens to Trance, and it got me back into electronic music. I could never find any CD's that I could listen to straight through with all the tracks being good. I guess I had been looking in the wrong places because they are out there, and this is definitely one of them. This CD is an awesome journey thru trance music for anyone who likes this sorta stuff, especially if you are new to the scene. If tracks 3 and 4 dont get you moving then you have ice running through your veins my friend. BUY IT NOW!!
Oh yeah :-).......2002-09-24
Armin Van Buuren is one up on Ferry Corsten in my book with this outstanding CD. If you are even casually interested in trance, this is a buying decision you will not regret.
In my top 3...Fantastic !.......2002-08-12
This CD made me AVB fan. Even having recently purchased "Trance Match" has not changed my mind that this is AVB at his best. I particularly enjoy track 7 to the end, but that's me.
