5 out of 5 stars Music soulful and sensual.......2006-11-28

I liked the cover so I brought the CD on Amazon.

Trust me this Lady can sing with such finesse and elegance.
I can't stop playing it and #s 5,6,9,and 10 are my fav's.

If you like great music and a positive vibe. buy this CD. you won't regret it!

5 out of 5 stars A great find.......2006-01-24

I saw the video for "Pieces" on VH-1 soul and one listen made me want more. I searched in all the local stores and found it in Borders for $20 so I finally got it on Amazon and it is the best CD that I've bought in a long time. Hil's voice is wonderful and she is always in pitch. The songs are funky yet smooth.
If you don't have this in your collection, shame on you!

5 out of 5 stars Copasetik & Cool - Hill Street Soul.......2005-10-09

Very good CD. I purchased this CD for its version of the song "For the love of you" which was originally released by the Isley Brothers. I discovered some other nice tracks like Pieces, Blue Tears, and Think Again. I wonder why I wasn't aware of this CD's existence, until I researched a song that was played on a jazz radio station.

5 out of 5 stars Lovin' this CD to "Pieces".......2005-02-05

I bought "Copasetik & Cool" on a whim back in March '04, lured only by the cover photo of Hil St. Soul's beautiful lead singer, Hilary Mwelwa. Little did I know that this impulse purchase would become one of my favorite albums of 2004 (I know - I'm a little late). Equal parts Whitney Houston (the good parts) and India.Arie, Hil St. Soul is a UK R&B band who easily weaves from classic soul to jazz to hip hop without (literally) missing a beat. All songs on "Copasetik & Cool" are well done, especially the standout track "Pieces," an exceptional cover of "For The Love of You," and the title track (which sounds just like Soul II Soul). I can't wait for more from this talented group, and am glad to have learned that, once in a while, you can judge a book by its cover.

5 out of 5 stars This is one to add to your collection.......2004-12-22

Copasetik & Cool was featured in Essence magazine in April or May and it received high praise. I decided to take a chance on the group because I am a TRUE MUSIC LOVER. I was not disappointed at dropping $14.31 on this cd. It got heavy rotation in my apartment. Hilary's voice is melodic and the beats are mellow. This is the perfect cd to play while you and your honey are chilling on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

3 out of 5 stars Get "Time Waits For No Man" First.......2001-11-29

"Time Waits For No Man" is definitely a must buy before getting this album. The beats aren't as good on "Hostile Environment" because they weren't done by Peanut Butter Wolf, Fanatik, Paul Nice and others. The beats on this album aren't bad either. It sounds kind of like an atempt to get into the mainstream. Rasco's flows have improved though. Tracks 4 and 9 are my favorites.

4 out of 5 stars Rasco's Gunz Still Hot.......2001-08-16

Yo. This album is hot. It isn't as good as his first, "Time Waits For No Man", but what is?? Its a solid album with a new style from Rasco. The beats are totally different from the first. So don't expect another album similiar to that. All ya'll cats who say Rasco only has one flow need to peep this joint out. Rasco is blazin' in the 2G1!

5 out of 5 stars Great Hip-Hop/Rap CD for anyone.......2000-06-24

Kool Keith/Dr. Octagon aka Dr. Dooom has done it again. This CD includes the extremely famous song: Leave me Alone. This song was good enuff on " First Come, First Served ". The Flightcrank Remix of this song is only better, it's AMAZING. If you have a little extra cash in your pocket, but this CD. I'd suggest buying First come, first served ( has tons of great songs.... ) over this single, but buy this CD, it's a great experience, and good hip-hop for any collection.. buy this cd today... aight? peace

I've been a big fan of PBW for a long time and I have found his technique to such amazement. Yet, when I purchased this album, some of the songs where from his previous album and where titled differently to throw you off. Futhermore, he has better songs with Charizma and there are none to be found on here. I wouldn't say that I am dissapointed by him, but maybe the label that compiled this album. I mean, who would know their own stuff better than Peanut Butter Wolf?

4 out of 5 stars The return of a dancefloor legend.......2002-07-17

On paper, describing what Genaside II does can cause people to scratch their heads. It's half hardcore techno, half movie soundtrack, half opera, and half dancehall hip-hop. A lot of halves, yes, but they mixes their sources together into a cohesive product that can be infectious as Hell. The songs have a very big, very epic feel to it, thanks to the many string samples that weave their way in and out of the songs.

The stand out tracks on first listen were "Nights Like This," "Teng Chow Now," and "Trendsetter." "Nights Like This" mixed a soft, operatic female vocal sample with Killerman Archer's straight-outta-Jamaica rapping and some menacing bass that begs to cranked on the dancefloor. One of those songs I would love DJ with just to see some women getting down to it. Keeping in mind that my knowledge of the endless techno sub-genres is limited, but the drums on "Teng Chow Now" have a very jungle feel with some strings and a rap sample. Another good dancefloor banger. "Trendsetter" belongs to the uncredited rapper at the forefront of it. "I'm a trendsetter/My clothes are getting better/The ...are getting better/My flows are getting better." Not Shakespeare or Jay-Z, but I dare anyone not to get down to it. They really wring a lot of urgency out of it. Another song I'd love to play for a crowd.

Other songs stood out after multiple listens. "Drums Monkey" feels like a straight jungle song. Not bad, but it got lost sandwiched between two songs I felt were stronger. "Fighting Talk" has what sounds to be some Bruce Lee samples and an action movie soundtrack feel, making for another fun track. Great to play video games to. I went on the defensive when I heard Outnumbered's "Narra Mine" remix, "Archer's Revenge," but I warmed up to it after a couple listens. It lacks the staggering intensity of the original, but it's got a great bass kick. "Rest Your Soul" burns slow, with Mary Joy and Killerman both turning in strong performances. The song really displays Genaside II's ability to make a song sound both epic and intimate.

The last five tracks on the album didn't grab me nearly as much as the first seven. Even after multiple listens I wasn't able to recall their song titles without looking at the CD case. "Revolution Revisited" is a retread on "Genaside Will Not Be Televised" from "Ad Finite," a spoken word mission statement set to dance music. It isn't as memorable as, say, KMFDM's "Dogma" or Pigface/Meg Lee Chin's "Nutopia." Not outstanding, merely alright. Mary Joy and Killerman return for "The Upside" and another solid collaboration, but the last stand out track on the album.

If Genaside II wanted to create an album that will make you want to shake your [rear] or nod your head, they've certainly succeeded. A couple fumbles on side two keep it from being truly excellent, but it's definately a worthwhile addition to anybody's dance collection.

The song Midnight Melodic (Chase the Blues) got me interested in Terranova. I enjoy the soft but angelic vocal mixed with piano and heavy bass beats. It is definitely something for the chill periods, at the same time you can't help but bop your head listening to it sometimes. Other favorite songs on the album:

    Close the Door.

Get this if you like Gorillaz or garage techno.

    5 out of 5 stars Berliner delight........2001-10-16

Terranova is the only widely-known trip hop band from Germany and its music exposes a unique sound creation with their fresh blend of hip hop beats and the well-renowned European tradition of electronic music.

If you like Massive Attack or other trip hop bands, I'm sure you'll enjoy Close the Door as well.

My fav tracks include 'Turn Around' & ' Bombing Bastards'.

5 out of 5 stars this title is tight.......2001-06-27

this is some serious intellectual downbeat. tricky is awesome and plastic stress blows me away everytime.

1 out of 5 stars Oh, the horror..........2000-10-26

After hearing numerous tracks floating around on compilations, Terranova finally releases the anticipated Close The Door album. Boy, what a disappointment. This album is a perfect example of a group with a sound, a very good sound. Yet, on this album, they proceed to push out half-hearted tracks with vocals that seem old, at best. At their best, they sound like a trippy version of DJ Krush, with a jazzy flavor. Don't look for that on this album.

They have two hip-hop tracks, "Midnight Melodic" and "x-files", that go no where quickly. They have a hideous guitar track called "Never" that I would never play in my lifetime. "Sweet Bitter Love" which just goes on and on like Chinese water torture, never capturing one bit of attention.

"Plastic Stress" is the perfect example of what's wrong with this album. Portishead like vocals with an annoying guitar riff over some dub beat. Way too slow to be of any satisfaction. It's not even "chill-out" or "ambient" or "dub", which I could easily accept. This album has reached a new low.

Then you hear tracks like "Sugarhill" or "Millenium Bug" and you say to yourself, "This is more like what I'm talking about". Instrumentals that aren't slamming, but they are at least interesting soundscapes. These two tracks are infinitely more enjoyable than the rest of the album combined, which adds up to ten useless tracks. It makes me wonder how good this album could've been? Where is the "Tokyo Tower" of this album?

How could a group with so much potential put out such a stale project? With vocals and beats that make the album sound commercial and outdated. Is that something one should strive for? How can they produce such a fabulous mix for the DJ Kicks series and follow this up with an album that is as lousy as Endtroducing... from DJ Shadow? A downer from K7!

    4 out of 5 stars ¡It is a good one!.......2000-05-31

After i heard Terranova's DJ kicks, I decided to buy this one. Even if I expected something different, like the evil's sounds of their DJ kicks, i can tell you guys this is a great album. It is true it's slowly and the dark tones envolves this CD, but it doesn't mean that can be boring, not at all. I find that "midnight melodic" and the final reprise can be considered as real classics, . "Close the door" it's also a great song. On the other side, Coco's voice gives a great feeling on every track she's involved. The other guests are fine too, but i believe that Cath Coffey's voice doesn't catch the esprit of this record. Anyway, it worths to have it.

      Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good but not the best track in Close the Door.......2001-10-16

Both Stereo MC's remixes are fine but Just Enough isn't my fav song in Close the Door. I'd be delighted to see remixes of 'Turn Around' or 'Bombing Bastards'.
