If you like Enya..........2007-07-16
Love this CD. I lost my origianl years ago and just replaced it. After listing to it again I don't know why I waited years to replace it. I absolutly love this CD.
Serendipity strikes again (personal rating: 4.7 stars).......2005-12-12
I don't know why Amazon.com has moved so many of my early product reviews (especially those of Enya's albums) into the anonymous file ("a music fan"). Here is a repost, and slight revision, of my original review.
Serendipity strikes again...that quality of finding something wonderful that one isn't looking for. This debut album by the Taliesin Orchestra is one of serendipity's more powerful lightning bolts in my life. Much closer (IMO) to the spirit of the original artist's work than TO's follow-up treatment of George Winston's music, this CD takes the heart of Enya's music, plants it as a seed in new soil, and nurtures it into a bloom worthy to stand in Enya's own tea garden. "Lothlorian", the title track, "The Celts", "Bardic Dance" -- all of these sparkle like stars painted in the sky...(pardon my numerous puns!)
There is only one thing I really dislike about this recording: its treatment of the incomparable "The Memory of Trees". Every note and every chord Enya puts into her arrangement is necessary to the whole; take out even a little of what she put in, and the whole song is denatured. In TO's arrangment, the musical climax at the end of the original song is missing (why?), and with it the sense of holy awe the song is meant to evoke. Had the arranger stuck strictly to the melodic and harmonic structure of the original song, his soaring strings could've melted us the listeners right down into our socks. As it is, the arrangement succeeds despite itself, because the starting material is so strong.
This is an interesting approach; not entirely successful, but interesting nonetheless........2005-11-19
If you're the type of listener who thinks that no one can improve on Enya's original recordings, then you're bound to be disappointed by this set. If, however, you're curious about how someone else could reinterpret her characteristic sound, this disc may be a pleasant surprise. Several of Enya's tracks benefit from the application of the orchestra, most notably "The Celts." But while the orchestra is a nice touch, Sayre and co. tend to demonstrate a tin ear when it comes to adapting Enya's delicate wash of sounds to a larger scale.
Note: There is a second recording of Enya's work by the Taliesin Orchestra, but this one is much better. The second disc features rerecordings of the vocal tracks with a less-compelling singer and should be avoided.
I LOVE IT!.......2005-08-27
I bought this in Ohio. My favorite ones are:
#1. Orinoco Flow
#3. The Memory of Trees
#7. Book of Days
#9. Watermark
#10. Bard Dance
#11. The Celts (WAY better than the original one)

Soothing orchestral Enya.......2003-05-18
I've been a fan of Enya's music for the past few years, and it wasn't until seeing a copy of this in a music shop that I noticed that it existed. Needless to say, I enjoy what's been applied here. I like what Charles Sayre and The Taliesin Orchestra have done here. They've added an orchestral flavor to Enya's already-otherworldly and ethereal music. Some purists may be frustrated with some slightly different arrangements to some of the songs (e.g. "The Memory of Trees," "Lothlórien" etc), but you already have the originals on the albums, so what's the use of complaining? You can always go back to those. This here is just something a little different and adventurous. Besides that, this music is ethereal, melodic, wispy and gallantly gorgeous in it's own right. If you're openminded and adventurous, you just may enjoy what's on here. However, if you despise classical/orchestral music in general, as well as some slight tampering with originated formulas, then this may turn you off.

GORGEOUS.......2001-03-15
If you are an Enya fan, this CD is a no-brainer. A lush compilation of all of her most familiar melodies, sans vocals, set in a classic film soundtrack mode. If you are not an Enya fan, you will most likely find yourself won over by these swirling, romantic, classy arrangements. By turns evocative, melancholy, joyous, spirited and always melodic, this album is one of those wonderful treasures you will play over and over and over again. It is exceptional mood music, but also stands on its own as a delightful album to take you to other places. Bravo!
Great if you like the music, but don't want a voice.......2000-12-02
This was so good I went out and bought an Enya album, but that is "marred" by vocals. 1) Orinoco Flow: upbeat, cheerful, with a "stepping down melody" of catchy repetitiveness, with a feeling of travel. (4:14) 2) Athair ar Neamh: starting with distant bells, into low strings, this builds into an heroic love theme with a possibly tragic edge: romantic love, familial love, patriotic love, take your pick. (3:39) 3) The Memory of Trees: very soft strings and twinkling lead into a slow waltz with yearning and open spaces around it: vast country, deep space. Becomes tenderly grand, with an unusual metallic percussion. (4:22) 4) No Holly for Miss Quinn: opens almost on a minuet in the strings, but quickly snaps to a piano and orchestra with a tune that occasionally recalls "All Through the Night." It enlarges but never reaches grand; better for cottages and beloved colonial stations. Could be homesickness or nostalgia. (2:27) 5) Lothlorien: a play back and forth between the high strings and clarinet develops a rapidly played underline, then repeats in a statelier mode, deep into the basses, then in the processional version underlaid with fanfares. (3:21) 6) From Where I Am: kettledrums make this big-screen passion, dropping into alternation with softer theme for a tight-focus scene (room, glade, faces close together against the sky): romance, departure, graduation, brief bittersweet homecoming. (3:44) 7) Book of Days: opening panorama into a travelling music with fanfares: heads up, proud, certain. (3:24) 8) China Roses: guitar carries the accompaniment to a sweet, bright tune on clarinet and cello, with a touch of melancholy or wistfulness. (3:57) 9) Watermark: melancholy, yearning clarinet over low strings, that sweeps to grand levels occasionally with the kettledrums and violins; an edge of determination. (3:27) 10) Bard Dance: very medieval bit with tambor, pipes, and strings, a pavanne played at the castle hall or the village festival or a party travelling on the lookout. Not raucous enough for a tavern. More heavily recorded than the other tracks. (3:02) 11) The Celts: begins cinematically with lush strings, then swings into a rousing but not overwhelming march. Another loud one. (3:49)

Customer Reviews:
Breathtaking single but completely unnecessary........2002-04-11
Orinoco Flow is thought of by many to be Enyas only hit when that is not true. She has had several hits since then only not as chart-topping as this one. This song is absolutely beautiful.
Enya seaming has been making almost carbon-copies of this single a few times since as on songs like On My Way Home from Memory Of Trees and Lazy Days from A Day Without Rain only these two songs while still great, don't beat Orinoco Flow because Orinoco has a very dramatic feel. I love the quiet bridge in the middle of the song from 1:50 to 2:10. That part of the song alone probably saved it from being played out in my opinion. Enya should have made a whole remix of this single that sounded like that quiet bridge.
Although Orinoco Flow is beautiful, this item is completely unnecessary. This item only has the parent album version as well as a shortened version which is exactly like the original but only shorter. A complete waste of money even for heavy duty Enya fans.
Great, yes, but why the need for this?.......2000-11-02
Yes, this single is glorious and one of the best remnants of the 80's Celtic music scene, but why release it in this fashion? If the record company wanted to really commemorate the 10th anniversary, they should have released a maxi-CD of this song, as it would have made more sense.
The most inexplicable thing about this new CD is that it doesnt even have the whole original song on it. Its just the edited version, which is really insulting. An utter waste of money, even if you're an Enya addict.
Orinoco Flow.......2000-02-23
This here is the edited version of "Orinoco Flow". Even though it is shorter than the original version, it sounds just as great. "Orinoco Flow" is Enya's best and greatest hit. This single celebrates the success of that hit. This is a must for fans and a worthy buy.
Lovely!.......1998-09-09
This is the much-anticipated (by me, anyway) single of Orinoco Flow. It may very well be the best song Enya has ever written. This is a must-buy.
A masterpiece........1998-06-02
Enya's Watermark is a beautiful work of art. My favorites are Orinoco Flow (of course), Storms in Africa, Evening Falls, and The Longships. I remember listening to it when I was a little girl. (I'm 13 now.) "Sail away, sail away, sail away" is all I could remember, but I remembered it the second I heard it. Right now I am listening to Storms in Africa and comparing it to Storms in Africa 2. I'm not sure, but I think Storms in Africa 2 is in English. I wish the little paper had the words to it. It is a beautiful song. I seriously recommend this CD to anyone that has not heard it.
