nOOrda are a group based out of Italy consisting of 1/2 of the dining rooms, Cesare Malfatti, and Gionata Bettini. Their title album was released on Milano 2000 records, the same label that put out earlier works by S-Tone Inc., Madreblu, The Dining Rooms and Patrizia Di Malta to name a few. Milano 2000 is a wing off of Idizioni-Isthar records, better known for releases on Schema which include Soulstance, Nicola Conte, Gerardo Frisina, etc. I think they're some of the maestros of modern jazz and music, and certainly a staple in quality Italian takes of bossa and other musical art forms. nOOrda is a project that is actually a bit similar to Fragmentorchestra, focusing on nature, soundscapes and landscapes to create a vision that is... open to interpretation! lol
The nOOrda cd is great for anyone that's a fan of The Dining Rooms work on "Numero Deux". While the sound doesn't have quite the same type of raw feeling percussion that I loved on "Invocation", you do have some nice beats and very mellow tracks. The tunes are both electronic and instrumental - only a few tracks have actual vocals in them. It starts out smooth with Camminando - a track that reminds me of a cloudy day, yet sets the mood up perfectly. "Things I don't Imagine" opens up a little, and is perhaps one of the brighter tracks on the cd with slight harmonica and whispy vocals. "Save the Vinyl" is a cut that has electronic and dub touches that'll be cool to anyone that's a fan of Thievery Corporation. "il mare e le onde" has eery piano touches but a sweet pick-up as the tune progresses. But the gem of the cd was the tune that was promoted for the album - "Western Side Story". The track starts out with a sort of preface to being true about the music you like, enjoy, and love to hear and ends with the quote on this review title before kicking into a mellow keyed tune. It's simple, but very relaxing.
I recommend this album. I've owned it for a few years now and haven't regretted giving them a try at all. If you are a fan of The Dining Rooms, you may be interested in this side project. While I wouldn't rate it quite as high as "Numero Deux", I would actually rate it a bit above "Tre". This isn't a cd that'll snap you out of a dark mood - in fact it seems like a song suited to listening to on a damp, drissly day in the middle of spring. Also, if you dig the dining rooms, definitely check out Fragmentorchestra, who even had a song at the end of their album dedicated to The Dining Rooms. The three cd's seem to go together.
