5 out of 5 stars Suprising.......2007-06-15

After purchasing many compilations I began to fear that I would never again hear a cd as good as my first (Siddharta Vol. 1) but this cd woke me up. Some songs are better than others. "Siempre Me Quedará" for example is one of the best songs I've heard in months and all are consistantly good except for one song called "Carmela" which sounds like something my grandparents would dance to.
When I realised that Putumayo made many discs with many different themes without sticking to 1 theme I assumed it would be commercial and weak, but the disc outdoes most buddha bar or hotel costes compilations!
A great Listen, I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Speak Spanish or Not, This CD is Great.......2007-04-10

I am a Spanish student and am nearly fluent. It's fun to listen to this CD and know what they're saying, but even if you can't speak a word of Spanish, this CD will retain a special place on your shelf (or a permanent place in your CD player). The music varies from tangoes to salsas to mambos. I especially enjoy listening to this CD in my car because... it's just plain fun to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth and Sexie.......2007-03-13

All the cuts offer a tasty bite of Latin flavor. Latin Jazz and Euro fusion. Great listening music or as a back drop to accent a dinner party. The music is captivating, enchanting, and just a pleasure to listen. This is the kind of music that goes great with a sunset, wine, and a friend.

5 out of 5 stars Learn Spanish and groove at the same time: Latin Lounge.......2007-01-04

I just bought this CD at the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica. It was playing over the loudspeaker in the gift shop and I was hooked. Happy to help the local economy but I could have saved some $ if I had bought it on amazon. This is an amazing CD. Not only is the music great, but you can also improve your Spanish by listening to the lyrics. If you like groovy Latin music, buy this now.

5 out of 5 stars Putumayo.......2006-12-15

PUTUMAYO is awesome music, a real eye opener. Similar in many ways to the BUDDHA BAR approach but different flavour.

Anyone who enjoys this cd may want to try MANU CHAO (proxima estacion ... ESPERANZA) for another trully great Latin American music.

This is definitely one of the easiest CD's to pop in, along with Nuevo Latino .... anytime anywhere ... just makes you enjoy the moment so much more.

5 out of 5 stars The smooth sounds of Cafe d'Afrique.......2007-07-24

If youre looking for a very relaxing, mellow and laid back sound Cafe d'Afrique is just the thing for you. The house style drum beat that is featured on a majority of the tracks keeps the entire album exciting, fresh and upbeat, while the melodic vocal melodies and synthy chords keep the feel of the album mellow and sophisticated. Its definite lounge material and would be a great addition to anyones party playlist. Its sound is very trendy and would serve as great background music for any social occasion. It is definitely a great representation of the New York City SOHO nightlife scene, while remaining accessible to the average listening situation as well. I highly recommend it.

Featuring an incredible line-up of world/lounge luminaries including Althea W., Ginkgo Garden, Joe Weinek Opera-to-Relax, Peter Mergener, Artemisia, TAU, David & Steve Gordon and many more genre-bending mixologists. De-stress and unwind, as deep ancient wisdom meets with these mesmerizing modern beats to create the definitive nu-global soundtrack for today; perfectly suited for deepening your yoga experience, as the perfect backdrop for socializing or any time you just want to chill-out.

"If you need a compilation to hold you over until the next installment in Sequoia's "Buddha-Lounge" series gets released, HOTEL TARA is the perfect place to take up residence. Like that series, the album features a luscious non-stop mix of ethnic-flavored grooves, spiritual essence and intoxicating beats compiled and mixed by the Gordon brothers. HOTEL TARA ups the "dreamy" quotient, creating an atmosphere that is at once peaceful and soulful. The beats are low-tempo and many of the songs have a touch of Indian instrumentation as well as a subtle retro-lounge flair. Artists include David and Steve Gordon, Gingko Garden, Althea W., Jaya Lakshmi, Artemisia and others. This is a great album for anyone looking for music that is mellow and cerebral - it is perfect for chilling out to."

5 out of 5 stars Unwind with this..........2007-03-26

Smooth, sensous, soothing, and sultry. A couple of cuts a little on the "loungy" side but overall this is an excellent CD that delivers exactly what you would expect from the title. The quality of this stuff is definitely a cut above a lot of the other budda-lounge wannabes.

5 out of 5 stars A maverick New Age/Eastern hybrid classic!.......2005-03-25

I am absolutely taken into the beauty and harmony that is the album "Hotel Tara". I first heard this at an independent CD store recently and after finding out who it was, I instantly bought the new album and I am proud of my choice of buying it. This album reminds me very strongly of the Earthtone collection series from years ago. After the apparent and unfortunate demise of the Earthtone label, Sequoia Records seems to have taken the torch and "Hotel Tara" is a powerful CD. "Apollo 13" is a highly eclectic track that incorporates voice effects of a NASA space mission with a gorgeous jazz/New Age groove. "Govinda Hari" is an electrifying song with haunting Eastern Indian voices and a very entrancing melody. This is such a wonderful CD and I highly recommend this.

5 out of 5 stars Blissful Eastern Chill.......2005-03-10

Nothing less than superb ! This new titles from Sequoia Groove is a blissful voyage into the very best of Eastern influenced downtempo chill-out music. A provacative follow up to Sequoia's Buddha Lounge series. This album really transports the listener into some very exoctic and sensuous musical landscapes. I especially love the Jaya Lakshmi track "Govinda Hari" and "Apollo 13" by Joe Werineck which incorporates actual original recordings from the space mission into a lushly textured background of slow and sultry electonica. This is a great addition to any downtempo musical collection. If you like, Buddha Bar or Hotel De Costa you will love Hotel Tara.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Music for Sacred Lovers.......2005-02-10

David & Steve Gordon have done it again ! Just when you thought it could'nt get any better, these musical visionaries deepen the mix even further. Hotel Tara bills itself as "The Intimate Side of Buddha Lounge" and it certainly delivers on that promise. This is an exotic and enticing blend of traditional Eastern music with the very best that Western downtempo-electronica has to offer, featuring an superlative assortment of the very best Sequoia artists and some absolutely alluring new artists. Likely the most noteable being the lead track "L'Heure Verte/The Green Hour"from Artemisia, the new Steve Gordon solo project with it's distinctive tabla beat, exquisite tamboura, sensuous guitar and luminous vocals provided by Jaya Lakshmi whose "Govinda Hari" also graces the album. David Gordon's new solo track "Floating" is also fantastic, melding chill-out and smooth jazz effortlessly into this delightfully transcendent tune. My wife and I have now found our new favorite CD for our intimate encounters and Tantra sessions. These Sequoia Groove titles just keep getting better and better and this one is perfect suited for the the Sacred Lover. Keep them coming. Absolutely delightful.

As you are about to know, Monsieur Pompougnac is the father of Hôtel Costes family. This is his second solo album, and for me, it's way better than the first one. There are no surprises: great vocals, finger tapping melodies and an extreme good taste all around. If you are already a Costes fan, go on and buy this record: there is nothing new, but who needs something new when you can still be hypnotized with an ever-same-good-music. If you are brand new to this (welcome back to Earth) and give it a try, may you join the club

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars What I expected and more!.......2005-10-19

This purchase also comes with an extra dvd which is creative and nice! Not to mention relaxing!
I recommend this puchase if smooth, laid back, relaxing, modern jazz is your style.

5 out of 5 stars Lush, Exotic Chill.......2004-08-01

The music on this set is perfect for relaxation or entertainment. It is creative and can be called 'Lounge' music but many somes have aspects of Dance, Jazz, Chill, and Electronica. I found the music highly accessible and digestible. To use a very overused word--it is very 'cool.'

"Agent Dream" is one example of the approach used. There's mostly music yet with some lyrics or vocals. The music and production is clean and crisp and
the effects and dubs really tight. [A] Very modern sound is often interblended with exotic tones and vocalisms as is heard on cut #6 "JaGuBa." One of my favorite cuts was "A Shade Cool." Here the music is nuanced and has a somewhat lush sense to it...all the while with edges of some exotic tones that give it an almost Far Eastern aura. "Bird Sky Blue" may be the best song on the project. It's a perfect blend of beats, tones, and effect that may recall Smooth Jazz meets island Chill. The vocals or vocalisms add depth to the fine tune. I think it is irresistible. Then "Belize Azure" continues the theme with bigger beats and is more Dance/Chillout. There's many more solid cuts on this album. One of the more dance-grooved is #13 "Prelude to a Groove." It is Electronic/ Dance/House and has the feel of a big commercial winner. The CD closes with the rich exotic feeling "Midnight Flame." Check out the 'horn' and 'guitar' here. It is another solid number.

An extra to this project is the bonus DVD. The DVD could be called 'instant' sunset because it has one hour of a digitally filmed Key West sunset.

Overall this is a fine offering. Great sound, hot grooves that take the listener to a paradise. The sunset and the music make this a must have for those in the cold northern latitudes. Bring Key West home and enjoy some great sounds. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for EVERYDAY!.......2004-04-20

I purchased this CD tonight and I absolutely love it! It is so relaxing. Perfect relief for a stressful day or anyday! The DVD which also comes with the CD is awsome. I highly recommend this CD!

4 out of 5 stars Very Nice Work.......2004-03-30

This CD comes with a 1 hour DVD of a sunset at Key West that includes the music. This is in addition to the regular Audio CD.
I found this music to be good chill. Wonderful ambience, it does remind you of setting on a dock in the ocean with a cocktail(s). It does have a good driving backbone to it. I really enjoyed it. I cant really say which is a standout groove, but theres no need for that. Like most chill music, the CD encompasses you if you let it. Good stuff, I advise getting a copy. For $9.95, you cant go wrong.

4 out of 5 stars A Hip Little Compilation.......2007-04-17

Very listenable, even danceable, and certainly high calibre. The PPPP is a great revisit of the 60's genre, replete with swing and jazz elements couched in modern rhythm and acoustic quality.

5 out of 5 stars One Neat Album.......2006-08-11

This is one neat album. Almost all of the tracks are great.

5 out of 5 stars MEE-OWW! PURRFECTLY PINK PANTHER-Y..........2006-06-13

... hands down the best compilation I've heard in quite some time - an intelligent selection of contemporary tunes that fit nicely with the penthouse theme... highlights include the jet-set sound of Koop's "Summer Sun", Fantastic Plastic Machine's retro-60's "Bachelor Pad" and the outstanding "Shot In The Dark/Peter Gunn" mix... a definite desert-island disc.

4 out of 5 stars I wish there was a remake/remix of "It Had Better Be Tonight".......2005-10-27

Henry Mancini was a master musician. His music will always be remembered and anytime you watch a film that he scored you'll hear what a great musician he was. You can actually hear his trademark sound and get to recognize his style. Pink Panther's Penthouse Party came out to coincide with the release of the DVD box set of the Pink Panther Movies. The CD includes the original version of the Pink Panther Theme as well as remixes of it by Fischerspooner which basically adds the signature Fischerspooner sound from (#1) and mixes a modern dance beat to the original. Also the Malibu Remix which adds a big beat sound to the original version of the track. And then there's also the Pink Panther Theme Revisited by St. Germain which slows down the track and adds a funky, jazzy and groovy beat to the original. There's also a remake of the Shot In The Dark Theme mixed with The Peter Gunn Theme called (The Gunn Mix) by Chris Mancini and Lennart. This is a fun and groovy remake which basically mixes the two Henry Mancini classics together as one piece. A great idea! The album also contains some original tracks by artists that sound or are inspired by the Henry Mancini sound. Some great tracks on here are included like Tres Tres Chic by Mocean Worker which fits perfectly here. This track has the french vocal sampling to the loungy dance beat track. Then there's Intraspettro by Les Hommes which sounds like an update Bossa Nova lounge track. Bossa Per Due is also another fun track on here dating back to 2000 but still sounding retro fresh! I remember this track was used in a Nissan Commercial back then. But a great track and work perfectly in the Pink Panther soundtrack. Other stand out cuts on here include Voulez Vous by Arling and Cameron, Sacre Francais by Dimitri From Paris, Bachelor Pad by Fantastic Plastic Machine, The Girl From Ipanema by Fantastic Plastic Machine and Smokebomb by Ursula 1000. The only track i had a problem with in the collection was San Antonio by Kinky. I like the track but I didn't think it fit here. Oh well overall a really fun CD.

5 out of 5 stars So Very, Very Cool--A Finely Crafted Tribute.......2005-02-24

Of all of the lounge, smooth, cool-jazz, chill and other trendy compilations of the last few years, this is one of the best, coherent in organization and sequence, consistent in theme, and with a unified aural feel. It all fits together just about perfectly, with that unstated Panther attitude and feeling.

Remember, the Pink Panther (original) was an all-Euro production, with European actors, locations, and a decidedly pre-Mod-60s, riche-chic Euro feel. After all, the original locations were Paris, Cortina, and Monte Carlo. This album faithfully captures that reserved, understated and laidback Euro cool.

The liner notes are disappointingly scant, a single albeit accurate paragraph about the Panther, with some whack homage to some artist named Shag. Apparently Shag is "proud to have created the newest chapter in the ongoing evolution of (the Panther)," but it's achingly unclear what this copy is talking about and how it relates to this CD. The liner notes could have been much better, with at least a nod to the brilliance of Mancini.

Sadly missing on this CD is a take on "It Had Better Be Tonight." I'm disappointed that there were no artists who wanted to take on this mod-rocking bit of ski-sweater fireside dance mania.

The CD opens just the right way, with the original Mancini theme, but the jazzy solo and bridge are cut from the track; Track 1 just ends cold and the Fischerspooner theme Mix kicks in. This is an awful segue, and a disrespectful butchering of Mancini's original theme. This Fischerspooner mix, however, is a perfect counter to the original.

The Gabin Remix Edit of Peggy Lee asking the musical question "Fever" is very well done. The pace is just right, not a pounding club bpm, but with enough drive to get up and dance to it if you want, or just to sit back in your sling chair and nod your head to the rhythm. The horns are sparse and soft, with a lot of smooth echo and tremolo. Good stuff.

Titan's "Corazon" follows, and continues the up-tempo trend of the CD. This is a get-on-the-floor dance track. It's a smooth shift here, geographically and ethnically, away from the original Euro Panther vibe to the Latin, and it works. It's not intrusive or jolting, and fits very well after "Fever." Good addition, and a good selection for this release.

"Smokebomb" follows, and is a full-on electronica club assault. It's not too heavy or hard in punctuation--no "Spybreak" here--and it follows well the bass feel and sounds of "Corazon." Good flute and well-defined bongo punctuations in the center, and a great thwanging guitar breakdown to take us back to the Panther theme, maybe even as far back as "After The Fox," a sadly overlooked Mancini soundtrack masterpiece. This track echoes the Latin feel of the previous track and the subtle shift in the CD's direction. Another good choice here, and good sequencing.

Then follows Pizzicato Five's "Girl From Ipanema." Sorry, but this tune is out of place here, too far apart musically, geographically, ethnically, even in metaphysical linking of the ultra-cool cat with hot-n-steamy Brazil.

Then comes Fatboy Slim's relative hit "Weapon of Choice." The muted intro goes on a bit too long before the tune kicks in, but its bass-heavy sound and depth fit well in the CD.

"Summer Sun" follows and fits as well, bringing the album back down a bit in tone and pace, slowing things. This is a light and airy tune, very cool and smooth, and you can hear the sunshine, good stuff. You can hear this tune on "Jazz Lounge" a definite Euro-feel release, which I recommend.

"Bachelor Pad" follows, and it's a fantastic melding of the old and new. This would've worked in any of the mod films of the late 60s, with great fuzzed-out rhythm and lead guitars, and a simple beat and melody to follow. Great dance tune, but again, not too heavy, not pounding or too fast.

Then there's the "Revisited" Panther theme. A better title would've been "Pantha Dub." I swear, my eyes were watering and I was getting hard munchies just bobbing my head with my eyes half-closed to this reggae-fied, horn-heavy yet still very cool take on the original.

I really enjoy the "A Shot in the Dark/Peter Gunn" mix. Very nice phrasing throughout, with most of the original arrangements and sound replicated here. The two themes move in and out of each other very nicely, playing off their sounds and images quite well. One quibble: the track ends way too soon. A great jam like this one should be allowed to run free and have some fun.

"Bossa Per Due" follows, and is a nice, quiet, even haunting chill tune. Good organ punctuation, with smooth female vocals, and nice counterpoint to the drive and humming guitars of the preceding mix.

"Intraspettro" comes next, and is a fantastic addition to this CD. Another piece with a single singing female vocal, it fits perfectly. Great Euro feel and sound, the sound of movement, of adventure, of clear weather and hazy horizons over the Mediterranean. You can find this track also on "Jazz Lounge."

"Tres Tres Chic" is interesting, but the over-enunciated French lyrics quickly become grating. I noticed this also on "Voulez-Vous?" and especially "Sacre Francais," the French ultimately distracting from what are smooth, simple, cool, and enjoyable tunes.

The Panther theme Malibu re-mix concluding the CD is very, very cool, a great closer. This is the sound of James Bond meeting the Panther. It rocks, but again, sadly, the jam just doesn't go on long enough.

In conclusion, this CD is a winner, a fantastic compilation and fitting tribute to the original understated, implicit 60s Panther cool, brought right into the new millennium and updated splendidly. The tracks fit (with a minor exception), compliment the attitude and vibe of the original, and contribute to an overall superb release.

5 out of 5 stars Phew........2006-01-29

What gets me about Lotus isn't just that their sound is crisp and their melodies beautifully composed. What gets me is that their songs--often relaxed, very chill, meandering through a song almost effortlessly--can be so infectious and bring you to a completely different mental plane. Nomad is an incredible studio synthesis of their talent. Seeing them live is the best way to go (it's incredible) but Nomad really gives you a great scope of their talent... although, they are also this tight in person.

5 out of 5 stars Organic Ambient Trance Funk.......2005-08-16

I just had to write this review because this cd deserves an average rating of 5 stars. This is a very sophisticated interpretation of Lotus's live sound. No self-indulgent meandering, just very tastful, structured compositions. However, i don't think everyone has the capacity to appreciate the aesthetic value of this music, along with the overall musicianship.

This cd jams, but in a subtle way. Lotus leaves out alot of the uneeded tension in alot of music today and replaces it with a easy vibe that is equally relaxing as it is danceable. The music is part ambient so its not music that demands to be listened to. It fits well in the background at a party or in the car. Its not all about the individual solos, instead more about the vibe the music, as a whole, gives off. It is as equally interesting as it is ignorable. It's downtempo electronica that perfectly combines organic jams with ambient textures. This is one of my favorite albums i own, and i'd recomend it to anyone who appreciates good music.

4 out of 5 stars what i expected.......2005-08-15

Someone told me about lotus so I checked them out. The "live drum and base/jam techno" scene is on the rise and Lotus along with bands like MFA, djnotadj, and signal path is certainly one of the pioneers. The cd sounds great with many varied explorations into different styles of the live techno genre. Check it.

Yo ladies N gents, I go to college in PA, and the first time I really heard anything about Lotus came when a kid on my floor bought this disc and I spun it in my room. First and foremost, this album is totally righteous. If youre into classical improv and jamming, this is for you, and also, if youre into dance/trance this is for you as well. Furthermore, if youre into funk, they lay it down in kingly fashion. I've seen lotus twice this year, and the first time they were awesome, and the second time (a mere 3 months later) they were completely unreal. Whoever wrote that B/S about STS9 being better than lotus has obviously not seen them live, or was candy flippin too hard to understand. Sound tribe is a complete and utter joke compared to this band; in fact, there is no comparison. Please do yourselves the favor and go see Lotus live, and while youre at it, get this disc. Peace

5 out of 5 stars Eclectic Electric Jazz Electronica.......2005-03-28

You may have heard the buzz about this band. They
are truly a formally well-educated musical band
that likes to improvise off the audience's energy.
The use of improvisation, as well as certain music
phrases, or riffs, classifies them as jazz
performers. Rolling Stone magazine calls their
music "Loose, spontaneous Jam Rock instrumentals.
Funk and Latin influences surface in both the guitar
figures and the overall rhythms, while the drums
show a real jazz-inflected approach to dynamics and
may be the group's strong point." The drummer,
Steve Clemens (related to Samuel Langhorne?) is
indeed dynamic and delivers a great sound. But I
think the melodic/harmonic interplay between the
guitarist (Mike Rempel) and keyboard man (Luke
Miller) sustains the compositions over the length
of the musical program.
The music ranges from Smooth Jazz to Grateful
Dead concert jamming--definitely an eclectic mix.
In fact it seems at times that Mike is channeling
Jerry Garcia (not a bad contact)!
So, if you like instumental music that is great
to listen to (for both background and fore) pick
up this CD. The samples provide good examples of
the sound quality and dynamics of Lotus'
material.

5 out of 5 stars Again, having a hard time not liking any tracks........2002-12-06

These OM recordings just build on one another very nicely. No bad tracks here. Just more of a wonderful collection of downtempo beats that perfectly accompany that martini party you were planning or just a quiet night by the fire with a home cooked meal and a view of a downtown city skyline. Downtempo is the key word here, if you know what that is and like that music style, you'll have no problems with this cd.

4 out of 5 stars read it and buy.......2002-03-06

simply put electronic chillage at its best.this would lift you up and melt you away on a snowy night.

5 out of 5 stars A Truly Stylish CD - Could Be the Future of Music.......2002-02-24

This is a truly remarkable CD. Somehow it sounds better after sundown. It is an extremely modern, sleek set of tracks. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Good background lounge........2002-01-24

If you like to entertain or are just hanging out, this is an excellent soundtrack for either. If you're planning on listening to something intently, I'd suggest something perhaps outside of a commercially produced series. Perhaps something by Mark Farina or (if you're so inclined) by one of the many jazzy trip-hop groups.

4 out of 5 stars Once again, well done!.......2001-11-20

If you're looking for some great nighttime chillin' music, then this CD is for you. As a proud owner of the first four installments of the OM Lounge series, I find that this one fits well within what I have come to expect from the series. One thing that particularly impresses me about this CD (and the others, as well) is the subtle detail that can be heard in each track. The Andy Caldwell and Soulstice tracks are excellent, as usual, and Pacific Memories (track #2) really jams in its own low-key way. Sounds really great on the higher end systems (for all you high-end audio buffs out there).
